Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his
imagery? for they say, The LORD
seeth us not; the LORD hath
forsaken the earth.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the
shrine of his own
idol? For they are saying, ‘The LORD does not see us; the LORD has
forsaken the land.’”
Thou hast also taken thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest to
thyself images of men, and
didst commit
whoredom with them,
You also took the fine
jewelry of gold and silver I had given you, and you made male idols with which to
prostitute yourself.
For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use
divination: he made his arrows bright, he consulted with
images, he looked in the liver.
For the king of Babylon stands at the
fork in the road, at the junction of the two roads, to seek an
omen: He shakes the arrows, he consults the idols, he examines the liver.
And that she increased her whoredoms: for when she saw men pourtrayed upon the wall, the
images of the Chaldeans pourtrayed with
vermilion,
Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause their
images to cease out of
Noph; and there shall be no more a prince of the land of Egypt: and I will put a fear in the land of Egypt.
This is what the Lord GOD says: I will destroy the idols and put an end to the
images in
Memphis. There will no longer be a prince in Egypt, and I will instill fear in that land.
Neither shall they
defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their
detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have
sinned, and will
cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.
They will no longer
defile themselves with their idols or
detestable images, or with any of their transgressions. I will save them from all their
apostasies by which they
sinned, and I will
cleanse them. Then they will be My people, and I will be their God.
Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
As you, O king, were watching, a great statue appeared. A great and
dazzling statue stood before you, and its form was
awesome.
This
image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his
belly and his thighs of brass,
The head of the statue was pure gold, its chest and arms were silver, its
belly and thighs were bronze,
Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which
smote the
image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and
brake them to pieces.
As you watched, a stone was cut out, but not by human hands. It struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay, and
crushed them.
Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the
chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that
smote the
image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
Then the iron, clay, bronze, silver, and gold were
shattered and became like
chaff on the
threshing floor in summer. The wind carried them away, and not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that had struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
Nebuchadnezzar the king made an
image of gold, whose height was
threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of
Dura, in the province of Babylon.
King
Nebuchadnezzar made a golden statue sixty cubits high and six cubits wide, and he set it up on the plain of
Dura in the province of Babylon.
Then
Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the
dedication of the
image which
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
Then King
Nebuchadnezzar sent word to
assemble the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the other officials of the provinces to attend the
dedication of the statue he had set up.
Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the
dedication of the
image that
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the
image that
Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
So the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the rulers of the provinces assembled for the
dedication of the statue that King
Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood before it.
As soon as you hear the sound of the horn,
flute,
zither,
lyre,
harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the golden statue that King
Nebuchadnezzar has set up.
Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the
cornet,
flute,
harp,
sackbut,
psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden
image that
Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
Therefore, as soon as all the people heard the sound of the horn,
flute,
zither,
lyre,
harp, and all kinds of music, the people of every nation and language would fall down and worship the golden statue that King
Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the
cornet,
flute,
harp,
sackbut,
psaltery, and
dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden
image:
You, O king, have issued a decree that
everyone who hears the sound of the horn,
flute,
zither,
lyre,
harp, pipes, and all kinds of music must fall down and worship the golden statue,
There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon,
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden
image which thou hast set up.
But there are some Jews you have appointed to
manage the province of Babylon—
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego—who have
ignored you, O king, and have refused to serve your gods or worship the golden statue you have set up.”
Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden
image which I have set up?
and
Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, is it true that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden statue I have set up?
Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the
cornet,
flute,
harp,
sackbut,
psaltery, and
dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the
image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning
fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?
Now, if you are ready, as soon as you hear the sound of the horn,
flute,
zither,
lyre,
harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the statue I have made. But if you refuse to worship, you will be thrown at once into the
blazing fiery furnace. Then what god will be able to deliver you from my hands?”
But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden statue you have set up.”
I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.
I had a dream, and it
frightened me; while in my bed, the
images and visions in my mind
alarmed me.
And shall also carry
captives into Egypt their gods, with their princes, and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold; and he shall continue more years than the king of the north.
He will take even their gods
captive to Egypt, with their metal
images and their precious vessels of silver and gold. For some years he will stay away from the king of the North,
For the children of Israel shall
abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an
image, and without an
ephod, and without
teraphim:
For the Israelites must live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred
pillar, and without
ephod or
idol.
Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.
Israel was a
luxuriant vine, yielding fruit for himself. The more his fruit increased, the more he increased the altars. The better his land produced, the better he made the sacred pillars.
Their heart is divided; now shall they be found
faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall
spoil their
images.
Their hearts are
devious; now they must bear their guilt. The LORD will break down their altars and
demolish their sacred pillars.
As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto
Baalim, and burned incense to
graven images.
But the more I called Israel, the farther they departed from Me. They sacrificed to the Baals and burned incense to carved images.
And now they sin more and more, and have made them
molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the
craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice
kiss the
calves.
Now they sin more and more and make for themselves cast
images, idols
skillfully made from their silver, all of them the work of
craftsmen. People say of them, “They offer human sacrifice and
kiss the
calves!”
But ye have borne the tabernacle of your
Moloch and Chiun your
images, the star of your god, which ye made to
yourselves.
You have taken along Sakkuth your king and Kaiwan your star god, the idols you made for
yourselves.
And all the
graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the
hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay
desolate: for she gathered it of the
hire of an
harlot, and they shall return to the
hire of an
harlot.
All her carved
images will be
smashed to pieces; all her wages will be burned in the fire, and I will destroy all her idols. Since she collected the wages of a
prostitute, they will be used again on a
prostitute.
Thy
graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing
images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.
I will also cut off the carved images and sacred pillars from among you, so that you will no longer bow down to the work of your own hands.
And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the
graven image and the
molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art
vile.
The LORD has issued a command concerning you, O
Nineveh: “There will be no descendants to carry on your name. I will cut off the carved
image and cast
idol from the house of your gods; I will prepare your grave, for you are contemptible.”
What profiteth the
graven image that the maker thereof hath
graven it; the
molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make
dumb idols?
What use is an
idol, that a
craftsman should
carve it— or an
image, a teacher of lies? For its maker trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot speak.
“Whose image is this,” He asked, “and whose inscription?”
And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this
image and
superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar’s.
So they brought it, and He asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s,” they answered.
“Show Me a
denarius. Whose
image and inscription are on it?” “Caesar’s,” they answered.
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the
Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone,
graven by art and man’s
device.
Therefore, being offspring of God, we should not think that the Divine Being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by man’s skill and imagination.
And when the townclerk had
appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the
Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess
Diana, and of the
image which fell down from Jupiter?
Finally the city clerk quieted the crowd and declared, “Men of Ephesus, doesn’t
everyone know that the city of Ephesus is
guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her
image, which fell from heaven?
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an
image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and
fourfooted beasts, and
creeping things.
and exchanged the glory of the
immortal God for
images of
mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
For those God
foreknew, He also predestined to be
conformed to the
image of His Son, so that He would be the
firstborn among many brothers.
But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the
knee to the
image of
Baal.
And what was the divine reply to him? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the
knee to
Baal.”
For a man indeed ought not to cover his head,
forasmuch as he is the
image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.
And as we have borne the
image of the
earthy, we shall also bear the
image of the heavenly.
And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so also shall we bear the likeness of the heavenly man.
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
And we, who with unveiled faces all
reflect the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into His
image with
intensifying glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the
image of God, should
shine unto them.
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Who is the
image of the invisible God, the
firstborn of every creature:
The Son is the
image of the invisible God, the
firstborn over all creation.
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the
image of its
Creator.
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express
image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself
purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
The Son is the
radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided
purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very
image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers
thereunto perfect.
For the law is only a shadow of the good things to come, not the
realities themselves. It can never, by the same sacrifices offered year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.
And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
Because of the signs it was given to perform on behalf of the first beast, it
deceived those who dwell on the earth, telling them to make an
image to the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet had lived.
And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
The second beast was permitted to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship it to be killed.
And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his
image, and receive his mark in his
forehead, or in his hand,
And a third angel followed them, calling out in a loud voice, “If
anyone worships the beast and its
image, and receives its mark on his
forehead or on his hand,
And the smoke of their
torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his
image, and
whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
And the smoke of their
torment rises
forever and ever. Day and night there is no rest for those who worship the beast and its
image, or for
anyone who receives the mark of its name.”
And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had
gotten the victory over the beast, and over his
image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
And I saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire, beside which stood those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name. They were holding harps from God,
And the first went, and poured out his
vial upon the earth; and there fell a
noisome and
grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his
image.
So the first angel went and poured out his
bowl on the earth, and
loathsome,
malignant sores broke out on those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its
image.
And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he
deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his
image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with
brimstone.
But the beast was captured along with the false prophet, who on its behalf had performed signs
deceiving those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its
image. Both the beast and the false prophet were thrown alive into the
fiery lake of burning sulfur.
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were
beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his
image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Then I saw the thrones, and those seated on them had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been
beheaded for their testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its
image, and had not received its mark on their foreheads or hands. And they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Open me the places that are closed, and bring me forth the winds that in them are shut up,
shew me the
image of a voice: and then I will declare to thee the thing that thou labourest to know.
Even so perisheth man also, which is formed with thy hands, and is called thine own
image, because thou art like unto him, for whose sake thou hast made all things, and
likened him unto the
husbandman’s seed.
For God created man to be
immortal, and made him to be an
image of his own
eternity.
For she is the brightness of the
everlasting light, the
unspotted mirror of the power of God, and the
image of his goodness.
And taking the very refuse among those which served to no use, being a
crooked piece of wood, and full of knots, hath carved it
diligently, when he had nothing else to do, and formed it by the skill of his understanding, and fashioned it to the
image of a man;
For he provided for it that it might not fall, knowing that it was unable to help itself; for it is an image, and hath need of help:
For a father
afflicted with untimely
mourning, when he hath made an
image of his child soon taken away, now honoured him as a god, which was then a dead man, and delivered to those that were under him ceremonies and sacrifices.
Thus in process of time an ungodly custom grown strong was kept as a law, and
graven images were worshipped by the commandments of kings.
Whom men could not honour in presence, because they dwelt far off, they took the
counterfeit of his
visage from far, and made an express
image of a king whom they honoured, to the end that by this their forwardness they might
flatter him that was absent, as if he were present.
The sight
whereof enticeth fools to
lust after it, and so they desire the form of a dead
image, that hath no breath.
For this man, that of earthly matter maketh brittle vessels and
graven images, knoweth himself to
offend above all others.
Over them only was spread an heavy night, an
image of that darkness which should afterward receive them: but yet were they unto themselves more
grievous than the darkness.
He
endued them with strength by themselves, and made them according to his
image,
And laid open the book of the law, wherein the heathen had sought to
paint the likeness of their
images.
So
Judas turned to
Azotus in the land of the Philistines, and when he had pulled down their altars, and burned their carved
images with fire, and
spoiled their cities, he returned into the land of
Judea.
And how that the prophet, having given them the law, charged them not to
forget the commandments of the Lord, and that they should not
err in their minds, when they see
images of silver and gold, with their ornaments.
