inhabitants of the land, the
Canaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the people of the land, that they might do with them as they would.
So their descendants went in and possessed the land; You subdued before them the
Canaanites dwelling in the land. You delivered into their hands the kings and peoples of the land, to do with them as they wished.
And he dwelleth in
desolate cities, and in houses which no man
inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.

rubble.

chased out of the world.

chased from the
inhabited world.

tremble— those beneath the waters and those who dwell in them.

habitation he cuts a shaft in places forgotten by the foot of man. Far from men he dangles and sways.
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
Yet You are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.
Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the
inhabitants of the world stand in
awe of him.
Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world
revere Him.
From the place of his
habitation he looketh upon all the
inhabitants of the earth.
From His dwelling place He gazes on all who inhabit the earth.
Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:
Hear this, all you peoples;
listen, all
inhabitants of the world,
Thou brakest the heads of
leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people
inhabiting the wilderness.
The earth and all the
inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it.
Selah.
When the earth and all its dwellers
quake, it is I who bear up its pillars.

inhabitants of Tyre;

inhabit the land, and the
blameless will remain in it;

shaken, but the wicked will not
inhabit the land.
And now, O
inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you,
betwixt me and my
vineyard.
“And now, O dwellers of Jerusalem and men of Judah, I
exhort you to judge between Me and My
vineyard.
In mine ears said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be
desolate, even great and fair, without
inhabitant.
I heard the LORD of Hosts declare: “Surely many houses will become
desolate, great mansions left unoccupied.
Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without
inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly
desolate,
Then I asked: “How long, O Lord?” And He replied: “Until the cities lie ruined and without
inhabitant, until the houses are left unoccupied and the land is
desolate and
ravaged,
And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of
stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a
gin and for a
snare to the
inhabitants of Jerusalem.
And He will be a sanctuary— but to both houses of Israel a stone of
stumbling and a rock of
offense, to the dwellers of Jerusalem a
trap and a
snare.
And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the
inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and
stoutness of heart,
All the people will know it— Ephraim and the dwellers of Samaria. With pride and
arrogance of heart they will say:
For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am
prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have
robbed their treasures, and I have put down the
inhabitants like a
valiant man:
For he says: ‘By the strength of my hand I have done this, and by my wisdom, for I am
clever. I have removed the boundaries of nations and
plundered their treasures; like a mighty one I subdued their rulers.
Madmenah is removed; the
inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to
flee.

Cry out and
shout, thou
inhabitant of
Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.
Cry out and sing, O citizen of
Zion, for great among you is the Holy One of Israel.”
It shall never be
inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the
shepherds make their fold there.
She will never be
inhabited or settled from generation to generation; no
nomad will pitch his tent there, no
shepherd will rest his flock there.
All ye
inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an
ensign on the mountains; and when he bloweth a
trumpet, hear ye.
All you people of the world and dwellers of the earth, when a
banner is raised on the mountains, you will see it; when a ram’s horn sounds, you will hear it.
And the
inhabitant of this isle shall say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation,
whither we
flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: and how shall we escape?
And on that day the dwellers of this coastland will say, ‘See what has happened to our source of hope, those to whom we fled for help and
deliverance from the king of Assyria! How then can we escape?’”
The
inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was
thirsty, they prevented with their bread him that fled.

clothe him with thy
robe, and
strengthen him with thy
girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.
I will
clothe him with your
robe and
tie your
sash around him. I will put your authority in his hand, and he will be a father to the dwellers of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.
Be still, ye
inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have
replenished.
Be silent, O dwellers of the coastland, you merchants of
Sidon, whose traders have crossed the sea.
Cross over to
Tarshish;
wail, O
inhabitants of the coastland!
Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it
upside down, and scattereth abroad the
inhabitants thereof.
Behold, the LORD lays waste the earth and leaves it in ruins. He will twist its surface and
scatter its
inhabitants—
Therefore hath the
curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are
desolate: therefore the
inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.
Therefore a
curse has consumed the earth, and its
inhabitants must bear the guilt; the earth’s dwellers have been burned, and only a few
survive.
Fear, and the pit, and the
snare, are upon thee, O
inhabitant of the earth.
Terror and pit and
snare await you, O dweller of the earth.
With my soul have I desired thee in the night;
yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the
inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
My soul longs for You in the night; indeed, my spirit seeks You at
dawn. For when Your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.
We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have not wrought any
deliverance in the earth; neither have the
inhabitants of the world fallen.
We were with child; we
writhed in pain; but we gave birth to wind. We have given no salvation to the earth, nor brought any life into the world.
For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to
punish the
inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.
For behold, the LORD is coming out of His dwelling to
punish the
inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth will
reveal her
bloodshed and will no longer
conceal her slain.

Then justice will inhabit the wilderness, and righteousness will dwell in the fertile field.
And the
inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be
forgiven their iniquity.

Zion will say, “I am sick.” The people who dwell there will be
forgiven of iniquity.
Therefore their
inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green
herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.
Therefore their
inhabitants, devoid of power, are dismayed and
ashamed. They are like plants in the field, tender green shoots, grass on the rooftops,
scorched before it is grown.
I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
I said, “I will never again see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living; I will no longer look on mankind with those who dwell in this world.
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the
inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a
curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth; its dwellers are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a
curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
Sing to the LORD a new song— His praise from the ends of the earth— you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who dwell in them.
Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that
Kedar doth inhabit: let the
inhabitants of the rock sing, let them
shout from the top of the mountains.
Let the desert and its cities raise their voices; let the villages of
Kedar cry
aloud. Let the people of Sela sing for joy; let them cry out from the mountaintops.
That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:
who confirms the message of His servant and fulfills the counsel of His messengers, who says of Jerusalem, ‘She will be inhabited,’ and of the cities of Judah, ‘They will be rebuilt, and I will restore their ruins,’
For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens—He is God; He formed the earth and fashioned it; He established it; He did not
create it to be empty, but formed it to be
inhabited: “I am the LORD, and there is no other.
For thy waste and thy
desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the
inhabitants, and they that
swallowed thee up shall be far away.
For your ruined and
desolate places and your
ravaged land will now indeed be too small for your people, and those who
devoured you will be far away.
For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall
inherit the Gentiles, and make the
desolate cities to be
inhabited.
For you will spread out to the right and left; your descendants will dispossess the nations and
inhabit the
desolate cities.
For thus saith the high and lofty One that
inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a
contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the
contrite ones.
For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who
inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in a high and holy place, and with the
oppressed and humble in spirit, to restore the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the
contrite.
And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.
They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
They shall not build, and another
inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine
elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
No longer will they build houses for others to inhabit, nor plant for others to eat. For as is the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people, and My chosen ones will fully enjoy the work of their hands.
Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
Then the LORD said to me, “
Disaster from the north will be poured out on all who live in the land.
The young lions
roared upon him, and
yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without
inhabitant.
The young lions have
roared at him; they have
growled with a loud voice. They have laid waste his land; his cities lie in ruins, without
inhabitant.
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and
inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my
fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can
quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and remove the foreskins of your hearts, O men of Judah and people of Jerusalem. Otherwise, My wrath will break out like fire and burn with no one to
extinguish it, because of your evil deeds.”
The lion is come up from his
thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land
desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an
inhabitant.
A lion has gone up from his
thicket, and a destroyer of nations has set out. He has left his
lair to lay waste your land. Your cities will be reduced to ruins and lie uninhabited.
The whole city shall
flee for the noise of the
horsemen and
bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and
climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be
forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.
Every city flees at the sound of the
horseman and archer. They enter the thickets and
climb among the rocks. Every city is abandoned; no
inhabitant is left.
Be thou
instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee
desolate, a land not
inhabited.
Be
forewarned, O Jerusalem, or I will turn away from you; I will make you a
desolation, a land without
inhabitant.”
And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
Their houses will be turned over to others, their fields and wives as well, for I will stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land,” declares the LORD.
At that time, saith the LORD, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:
“At that time,” declares the LORD, “the bones of the kings of Judah, the bones of the officials, the bones of the priests, the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the people of Jerusalem will be removed from their graves.
And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of
dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah
desolate, without an
inhabitant.
“And I will make Jerusalem a
heap of
rubble, a
haunt for jackals; and I will make the cities of Judah a
desolation, without
inhabitant.”
Egypt, and Judah, and
Edom, and the children of
Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are
uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are
uncircumcised in the heart.
Egypt, Judah,
Edom,
Ammon, Moab, and all the
inhabitants of the desert who
clip the hair of their temples. For all these nations are
uncircumcised, and the whole house of Israel is
uncircumcised in heart.”
Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress.
Gather up your belongings from this land, you who live under siege.
For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will
sling out the
inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so.
For this is what the LORD says: “Behold, at this time I will
sling out the
inhabitants of the land and bring distress upon them so that they may be captured.”
Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
“
Listen to the words of this covenant and tell them to the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem.
And the LORD said unto me, A
conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the
inhabitants of Jerusalem.
And the LORD told me, “There is a
conspiracy among the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem.
Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
Then the cities of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to which they have been burning incense, but these gods certainly will not save them in their time of
disaster.
Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the
inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, with
drunkenness.
then you are to tell them that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am going to fill with
drunkenness all who live in this land—the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the people of Jerusalem.
For he shall be like the
heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall
inhabit the
parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not
inhabited.
He will be like a
shrub in the desert; he will not see when prosperity comes. He will dwell in the
parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
And say unto them, Hear ye the word of the LORD, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates:
Say to them, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, all people of Judah and Jerusalem who enter through these gates.
Then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in
chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the
inhabitants of Jerusalem: and this city shall remain for ever.
then kings and princes will enter through the gates of this city. They will sit on the throne of David, riding in
chariots and on horses with their officials, along with the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem, and this city will be
inhabited forever.
Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and
devise a
device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
Now therefore, tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem that this is what the LORD says: ‘Behold, I am
planning a
disaster for you and
devising a plan against you. Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways, and correct your ways and deeds.’
And say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and
inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which
whosoever heareth, his ears shall
tingle.
saying, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah and residents of Jerusalem. This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I am going to bring such
disaster on this place that the ears of all who hear of it will ring,
Thus will I do unto this place, saith the LORD, and to the
inhabitants thereof, and even make this city as
Tophet:
This is what I will do to this place and to its residents, declares the LORD. I will make this city like Topheth.
And I will
smite the
inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they shall die of a great
pestilence.
I will strike down the residents of this city, both man and beast. They will die in a terrible plague.’
Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain, saith the LORD; which say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?
Behold, I am against you who dwell above the valley,
atop the rocky plateau— declares the LORD— you who say, “Who can come against us? Who can enter our dwellings?”
For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s house of Judah; Thou art
Gilead unto me, and the head of
Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not
inhabited.
For this is what the LORD says concerning the house of the king of Judah: “You are like
Gilead to Me, like the summit of
Lebanon; but I will surely turn you into a desert, like cities that are uninhabited.
O
inhabitant of
Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how
gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in
travail!
I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an
horrible thing: they commit
adultery, and walk in lies: they
strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none
doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as
Sodom, and the
inhabitants thereof as
Gomorrah.
And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a
horrible thing: They commit
adultery and walk in lies. They
strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns his back on wickedness. They are all like
Sodom to Me; the people of Jerusalem are like
Gomorrah.”
The which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,
So the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah and all the residents of Jerusalem as follows:
Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the
inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an
astonishment, and an
hissing, and perpetual desolations.
behold, I will
summon all the families of the north, declares the LORD, and I will send for My servant
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, whom I will bring against this land, against its residents, and against all the surrounding nations. So I will
devote them to destruction and make them an object of
horror and contempt, an
everlasting desolation.
For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.
For behold, I am beginning to bring
disaster on the city that bears My Name, so how could you possibly go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for I am calling down a sword upon all the
inhabitants of the earth, declares the LORD of Hosts.’
Therefore
prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall
roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy
habitation; he shall
mightily roar upon his
habitation; he shall give a
shout, as they that
tread the grapes, against all the
inhabitants of the earth.
So you are to
prophesy all these words against them and say to them: ‘The LORD will
roar from on high; He will raise His voice from His holy
habitation. He will
roar loudly over His pasture; like those who
tread the grapes, He will call out with a
shout against all the
inhabitants of the earth.
Why hast thou
prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like
Shiloh, and this city shall be
desolate without an
inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.
How
dare you
prophesy in the name of the LORD that this house will become like
Shiloh and this city will be
desolate and deserted!” And all the people assembled against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.
But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon
yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the
inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.
But know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood upon
yourselves, upon this city, and upon its residents; for truly the LORD has sent me to speak all these words in your hearing.”
Because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to
provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the
inhabitants of Jerusalem.
because of all the evil the children of Israel and of Judah have done to
provoke Me to anger—they, their kings, their officials, their priests and prophets, the men of Judah, and the residents of Jerusalem.
Thus saith the LORD; Again there shall be heard in this place, which ye say shall be
desolate without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are
desolate, without man, and without
inhabitant, and without beast,
This is what the LORD says: In this place you say is a wasteland without man or beast, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted—inhabited by neither man nor beast—there will be heard again
Behold, I will command, saith the LORD, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Judah a
desolation without an
inhabitant.
Behold, I am going to give the command, declares the LORD, and I will bring them back to this city. They will fight against it, capture it, and burn it down. And I will make the cities of Judah a
desolation, without
inhabitant.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of Judah and the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to
hearken to my words? saith the LORD.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Go and tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem: ‘Will you not accept discipline and obey My words?’ declares the LORD.
Therefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.
Therefore this is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will bring to Judah and to all the residents of Jerusalem all the
disaster I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them but they have not obeyed, and I have called to them but they have not answered.’”
And I will
punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they
hearkened not.
I will
punish him and his descendants and servants for their iniquity. I will bring on them, on the residents of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the
calamity about which I
warned them but they did not
listen.”
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my
fury hath been poured forth upon the
inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my
fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an
execration, and an
astonishment, and a
curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘Just as My anger and wrath were poured out on the residents of Jerusalem, so will My wrath be poured out on you if you go to Egypt. You will become an object of
cursing and
horror, of
vilification and disgrace, and you will never see this place again.’
So that the LORD could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a
desolation, and an
astonishment, and a
curse, without an
inhabitant, as at this day.
Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.
Egypt rises like the Nile, and its waters
churn like rivers,
boasting, ‘I will rise and cover the earth; I will destroy the cities and their people.’
O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish
thyself to go into captivity: for
Noph shall be waste and
desolate without an
inhabitant.
Pack your bags for exile, O daughter dwelling in Egypt! For
Memphis will be laid waste, destroyed and uninhabited.
And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the LORD.
I will deliver them into the hands of those who seek their lives—of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his officers. But after this, Egypt will be
inhabited as in days of old, declares the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the
inhabitants of the land shall
howl.
This is what the LORD says: “See how the waters are rising from the north and becoming an overflowing
torrent. They will overflow the land and its fullness, the cities and their
inhabitants. The people will cry out, and all who dwell in the land will
wail Thou daughter that
dost inhabit Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in
thirst; for the
spoiler of Moab shall come upon thee, and he shall destroy thy strong holds.
Come down from your glory; sit on
parched ground, O daughter dwelling in Dibon, for the destroyer of Moab has come against you; he has destroyed your fortresses.
O
inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and
espy; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and say, What is done?
Stand by the road and watch, O dweller of Aroer! Ask the man
fleeing or the woman escaping, ‘What has happened?’
Fear, and the pit, and the
snare, shall be upon thee, O
inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD.
Terror and pit and
snare await you, O dweller of Moab,” declares the LORD.
Flee ye, turn back, dwell deep, O
inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the
calamity of
Esau upon him, the time that I will visit him.
Turn and run! Lie low, O dwellers of Dedan, for I will bring
disaster on
Esau at the time I
punish him.
Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against
Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the
inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitations
desolate with them.
