And they
fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a
chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the
Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.
A
chariot could be imported from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty.
Likewise, they exported them to all the kings of the
Hittites and to the kings of
Aram.
And the wings of the cherubims were twenty cubits long: one wing of the one
cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was
likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other
cherub.
The total wingspan of the
cherubim was twenty cubits. One wing of the first
cherub was five cubits long and touched the wall of the temple, and its other wing was five cubits long and touched the wing of the other
cherub.
And the thickness of it was an
handbreadth, and the
brim of it
like the work of the
brim of a cup, with flowers of
lilies; and it received and held three thousand baths.
And said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:
and said: “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven or on earth, keeping Your covenant of loving devotion with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.
And the king made of the
algum trees terraces to the house of the LORD, and to the king’s palace, and harps and
psalteries for singers: and there were none such seen before in the land of Judah.
The king made the
algum wood into steps for the house of the LORD and for the king’s palace, and into lyres and harps for the singers. Never before had anything
like them been seen in the land of Judah.)
And twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other upon the six steps. There was not the like made in any kingdom.
Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like this had ever been made for any kingdom.
And
Ahab king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat king of Judah,
Wilt thou go with me to
Ramoth-
gilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and we will be with thee in the war.
Ahab king of Israel asked
Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me against
Ramoth-
gilead?” And
Jehoshaphat replied, “I am
like you, and my people are your people; we will join you in the war.”
And the
messenger that went to call Micaiah spake to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one assent; let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be
like one of theirs, and speak thou good.
Then the
messenger who had gone to call Micaiah
instructed him, “Behold, with one
accord the words of the prophets are favorable to the king. So please let your words be
like theirs, and speak
favorably.”
Then he said, I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no
shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return therefore every man to his house in peace.
So Micaiah declared: “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills
like sheep without a
shepherd. And the LORD said, ‘These people have no master; let each one return home in peace.’”
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel,
like as did the house of
Ahab: for he had the daughter of
Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.
And Jehoram walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the house of
Ahab had done. For he married a daughter of
Ahab and did evil in the sight of the LORD.
So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did
Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had
forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.
So to this day
Edom has been in rebellion against the hand of Judah.
Likewise,
Libnah rebelled against his rule at the same time, because Jehoram had
forsaken the LORD, the God of his fathers.
But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a
whoring,
like to the whoredoms of the house of
Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father’s house, which were better than
thyself:
but you have walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and have caused Judah and the people of Jerusalem to
prostitute themselves, just as the house of
Ahab prostituted itself. You have also killed your brothers, your father’s family, who were better than you.
And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his
bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of
sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him,
like the burning of his fathers.
This continued day after day until two full years had passed. Finally, his intestines came out because of his disease, and he died in severe pain. And his people did not make a fire in his honor as they had done for his fathers.
Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the LORD
like the house of
Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as the house of
Ahab had done, for to his destruction they were his counselors after the death of his father.
Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD,
like David his father:
Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. And unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD.
So they killed the bullocks, and the priests received the blood, and
sprinkled it on the altar:
likewise, when they had killed the rams, they
sprinkled the blood upon the altar: they killed also the lambs, and they
sprinkled the blood upon the altar.
So they slaughtered the bulls, and the priests took the blood and
sprinkled it on the altar. They slaughtered the rams and
sprinkled the blood on the altar. And they slaughtered the lambs and
sprinkled the blood on the altar.
And be not ye
like your fathers, and
like your brethren, which
trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to
desolation, as ye see.
Do not be
like your fathers and brothers who were unfaithful to the LORD, the God of their fathers, so that He made them an object of
horror, as you can see.
So there was great joy in Jerusalem: for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem.
So there was great
rejoicing in Jerusalem, for nothing
like this had happened there since the days of Solomon son of David king of Israel.
Now therefore let not
Hezekiah deceive you, nor
persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?
So now, do not let
Hezekiah deceive you, and do not let him mislead you
like this. Do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you from my hand!”
But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
And he did evil in the sight of the LORD by following the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
And there was no
passover like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did all the kings of Israel keep such a
passover as
Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
No such
Passover had been observed in Israel since the days of Samuel the prophet. None of the kings of Israel ever observed a
Passover like the one that
Josiah observed with the priests, the Levites, all Judah, the Israelites who were present, and the people of Jerusalem.
Then they came to
Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up
hither.
they approached
Zerubbabel and the heads of the families, saying, “Let us build with you because,
like you, we seek your God and have been sacrificing to Him since the time of King Esar-haddon of Assyria, who brought us here.”
Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the
Canaanites, the
Hittites, the
Perizzites, the Jebusites, the
Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the
Amorites.
After these things had been accomplished, the leaders approached me and said, “The people of Israel, including the priests and Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the surrounding peoples whose abominations are
like those of the
Canaanites,
Hittites,
Perizzites, Jebusites,
Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and
Amorites.
Likewise at the same time said I unto the people, Let every one with his servant
lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and labour on the day.
At that time I also said to the people, “Let every man and his servant
spend the night inside Jerusalem, so that they can stand guard by night and work by day.”
Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into
bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto
bondage already: neither is it in our power to
redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.
We and our children are just
like our countrymen and their children, yet we are subjecting our sons and daughters to slavery. Some of our daughters are already
enslaved, but we are powerless to
redeem them because our fields and vineyards belong to others.”
I
likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this
usury.
I, as well as my brothers and my servants, have been
lending the people money and grain. Please, let us stop this
usury.
Also I
shook my
lap, and said, So God
shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he
shaken out, and
emptied. And all the congregation said,
Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.
I also
shook out the folds of my
robe and said, “May God
likewise shake out of His house and possession every man who does not keep this promise. May such a man be
shaken out and have nothing!” The whole assembly said, “
Amen,” and they praised the LORD. And the people did as they had promised.
Then sent
Sanballat his servant unto me in
like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand;
The fifth time,
Sanballat sent me this same message by his young servant, who had in his hand an unsealed letter
And I said, Should such a man as I
flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.
But I replied, “Should a man like me run away? Should one like me go into the temple to save his own life? I will not go!”
And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of
Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great
gladness.
The whole assembly who had returned from exile made booths and lived in them. From the days of Joshua son of
Nun until that day, the Israelites had not celebrated
like this. And there was great
rejoicing.
And thou
didst divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors thou threwest into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.
You divided the sea before them, and they crossed through it on dry ground. You
hurled their pursuers into the depths
like a stone into
raging waters.
Their children also multipliedst thou as the stars of heaven, and broughtest them into the land, concerning which thou hadst promised to their fathers, that they should go in to possess it.
You multiplied their descendants like the stars of heaven and brought them to the land You had told their fathers to enter and possess.
Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king
like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did
outlandish women cause to sin.
Did not King Solomon of Israel sin in matters like this? There was not a king like him among many nations, and he was loved by his God, who made him king over all Israel—yet foreign women drew him into sin.
Likewise shall the ladies of Persia and Media say this day unto all the king’s princes, which have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus shall there arise too much contempt and wrath.
This very day the noble women of Persia and Media who have heard about the queen’s conduct will say the same thing to all the king’s officials, resulting in much contempt and wrath.
Esther had not yet shewed her kindred nor her people; as
Mordecai had charged her: for
Esther did the commandment of
Mordecai,
like as when she was brought up with him.
Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in
Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast
likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
“Go and
assemble all the Jews who can be found in
Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day, and I and my maidens will fast as you do. After that, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish!”
Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s ring: for the writing which is written in the king’s name, and sealed with the king’s ring, may no man reverse.
Now you may write in the king’s name as you please regarding the Jews, and seal it with the royal
signet ring. For a decree that is written in the name of the king and sealed with the royal
signet ring cannot be
revoked.”
And the LORD said unto
Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none
like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
Then the LORD said to
Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one on earth
like him, a man who is
blameless and upright, who fears God and shuns evil.”
And the LORD said unto
Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none
like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his
integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.
Then the LORD said to
Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one on earth
like him, a man who is
blameless and upright, who fears God and shuns evil. He still retains his
integrity, even though you incited Me against him to ruin him without cause.”
Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.
Or why was I not hidden
like a
stillborn child,
like an infant who never sees
daylight?
Which long for death, but it cometh not; and
dig for it more than for
hid treasures;
who long for death that does not come, and search for it
like hidden
treasure,
For my
sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out
like the waters.
I
sigh when food is put before me, and my groans pour out
like water.
How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are
crushed before the
moth?
how much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundations are in the dust, who can be
crushed like a
moth!
Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
You will know that your offspring will be many, your descendants like the grass of the earth.
Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age,
like as a
shock of corn cometh in in his season.
You will come to the grave in full
vigor,
like a
sheaf of grain gathered in season.
Is my strength the strength of stones? or is my flesh of brass?
Is my strength like that of stone, or my flesh made of bronze?
Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also
like the days of an
hireling?
“Is not man
consigned to labor on earth? Are not his days
like those of a
hired hand?
As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an
hireling looketh for the reward of his work:
Like a slave he longs for shade;
like a
hireling he waits for his wages.
How long
wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be
like a strong wind?
“How long will you go on saying such things? The words of your mouth are a
blustering wind.
They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.
For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.
For He is not a man like me, that I can answer Him, that we can take each other to court.
Are thy days as the days of man? are thy years as man’s days,
Are Your days
like those of a
mortal, or Your years
like those of a man,
Remember, I
beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and
wilt thou bring me into dust again?
Please remember that You
molded me
like clay. Would You now return me to dust?
Did You not pour me out
like milk, and
curdle me
like cheese?
For it increaseth. Thou huntest me as a fierce lion: and again thou shewest
thyself marvellous upon me.
Should I hold my head high, You would
hunt me
like a lion, and again display Your power against me.
A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.
to a land of utter darkness, of deep shadow and disorder, where even the light is like darkness.”
For vain man would be wise, though man be born
like a wild
ass’s
colt.
But a witless man can no more become wise than the
colt of a wild
donkey can be born a man!
And thine age shall be clearer than the
noonday; thou shalt
shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.
Your life will be brighter than
noonday; its darkness will be
like the morning.
They
grope in the darkness without light; He makes them
stagger like drunkards.
Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocketh another, do ye so
mock him?
Would it be well when He examined you? Could you
deceive Him
like a man?
Your remembrances are like unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.
Your maxims are
proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay.
And he, as a
rotten thing, consumeth, as a garment that is
moth eaten.
So man wastes away
like something
rotten,
like a
moth-eaten garment.
He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
Like a flower, he comes forth, then
withers away;
like a fleeting shadow, he does not
endure.
And
dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?
Do You open Your eyes to one like this? Will You bring him into judgment before You?
Yet through the
scent of water it will
bud, and bring forth boughs
like a plant.
how much less man, who is
vile and corrupt, who drinks injustice
like water?
Trouble and
anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
He shall
shake off his unripe
grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
He will be
like a vine
stripped of its unripe grapes,
like an olive tree that sheds its blossoms.
I have heard many such things:
miserable comforters are ye all.
“I have heard many things
like these;
miserable comforters are you all.
I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s
stead, I could
heap up words against you, and
shake mine head at you.
I could also speak
like you if you were in my place; I could
heap up words against you and
shake my head at you.
He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me
like a
giant.
He breaks me with wound upon wound; He rushes me
like a mighty
warrior.
He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.
He tears me down on every side until I am gone; He uproots my hope like a tree.
Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?
he will perish
forever,
like his own dung; those who had seen him will ask, ‘Where is he?’
He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found:
yea, he shall be
chased away as a vision of the night.
He will fly away
like a dream, never to be found; he will be
chased away
like a vision in the night.
They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.
They send forth their little ones
like a flock; their children
skip about,
They are as
stubble before the wind, and as
chaff that the storm carrieth away.
Are they
like straw before the wind,
like chaff swept away by a storm?
Behold, as wild
asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising
betimes for a prey: the wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children.
Indeed,
like wild
donkeys in the desert, the poor go to work
foraging for food; the wasteland is food for their children.
The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and
needy, and in the night is as a
thief.
When
daylight is gone, the murderer rises to kill the poor and
needy; in the night he is
like a
thief.
The
womb shall
forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.
The
womb forgets them; the worm feeds on them; they are remembered no more. So injustice is
like a broken tree.
They are
exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.
They are
exalted for a moment, then they are gone; they are brought low and gathered up
like all others; they are cut off
like heads of grain.
Let mine enemy be as the wicked, and he that riseth up against me as the unrighteous.
May my enemy be
like the wicked and my
opponent like the unjust.
Though he
heap up silver as the dust, and prepare
raiment as the clay;
Though he heaps up silver
like dust and piles up a
wardrobe like clay,
He buildeth his house as a
moth, and as a
booth that the keeper maketh.
Terrors take hold on him as waters, a
tempest stealeth him away in the night.
Terrors overtake him
like a flood; a
tempest sweeps him away in the night.
After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.
After my words, they spoke no more; my speech settled on them
like dew.
And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.
They waited for me as for rain and
drank in my words
like spring showers.
They were driven forth from among men, (they
cried after them as after a
thief;)
Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my
welfare passeth away as a cloud.
Terrors are turned loose against me; they drive away my dignity as by the wind, and my prosperity has passed like a cloud.
He hath cast me into the
mire, and I am become
like dust and ashes.
He throws me into the mud, and I have become like dust and ashes.
If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my
bosom:
if I have covered my transgressions like Adam by hiding my guilt in my heart,
Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.
Surely I would carry it on my shoulder and wear it like a crown.
I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.
I would give account of all my steps; I would approach Him like a prince.)—
If my land cry against me, or that the furrows
likewise thereof
complain;
if my land
cries out against me and its furrows
weep together,
Behold, my
belly is as wine which hath no
vent; it is ready to
burst like new bottles.
Behold, my
belly is
like unvented wine; it is about to
burst like a new wineskin.
Behold, I am according to thy wish in God’s
stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
I am just like you before God; I was also formed from clay.
His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth:
then his flesh is refreshed like a child’s; he returns to the days of his youth.
If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to
justify thee.
But if you have something to say, answer me; speak up, for I would
like to
vindicate you.
What man is
like Job, who drinketh up
scorning like water?
What man is
like Job, who drinks up
derision like water?
My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.
If only Job were tried to the utmost for answering like a wicked man.
Thy wickedness may
hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.
Your wickedness affects only a man
like yourself, and your righteousness only a son of man.
