And of all my sons, (for the LORD hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
And of all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—He has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the
LORD, and in the
audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the
LORD your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.
So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the
LORD, and in the hearing of our God, keep and seek out all the commandments of the
LORD your God, so that you may possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance to your descendants
forever.
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the
LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou
forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
As for you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve Him wholeheartedly and with a willing mind, for the
LORD searches every heart and understands the intent of every thought. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you
forsake Him, He will
reject you
forever.
Take
heed now; for the
LORD hath chosen thee to build an house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.
Consider now that the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong and do it.”
And the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the
LORD, and of all the chambers round about, of the
treasuries of the house of God, and of the
treasuries of the dedicated things:
The plans contained everything David had in mind for the courts of the house of the
LORD, for all the surrounding rooms, for the
treasuries of the house of God and of the dedicated things,
Also for the courses of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and for all the vessels of service in the house of the LORD.
for the divisions of the priests and Levites, for all the work of service in the house of the LORD, and for all the articles of service in the house of the LORD:
And for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the
chariot of the cherubims, that spread out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of the
LORD.
the weight of the refined gold for the altar of incense; and the plans for the
chariot of the gold
cherubim that spread their wings and overshadowed the ark of the covenant of the
LORD.
All this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.
“All this,” said David, “all the details of this plan, the LORD has made clear to me in writing by His hand upon me.”
And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the
LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor
forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the
LORD.
David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and
courageous, and do it. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the
LORD God, my God, is with you. He will neither fail you nor
forsake you before all the work for the service of the house of the
LORD is finished.
Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the
LORD God.
Then King David said to the whole assembly, “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great because this palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. And who then is willing to
consecrate his service this day unto the
LORD?
And they with whom precious stones were found gave them to the
treasure of the house of the
LORD, by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.
Whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the
LORD, under the care of Jehiel the Gershonite.
Then the people
rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the
LORD: and David the king also
rejoiced with great joy.
And the people
rejoiced at the willing
response of their leaders, for they had given to the
LORD freely and wholeheartedly. And King David also
rejoiced greatly.
Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.
Then David blessed the
LORD in the sight of all the assembly and said: “May You be blessed, O
LORD, God of our father Israel, from
everlasting to
everlasting.
Thine, O
LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O
LORD, and thou art
exalted as head above all.
Yours, O
LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the
splendor and the majesty, for everything in heaven and on earth belongs to You. Yours, O
LORD, is the kingdom, and You are
exalted as head over all.
O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.
O LORD our God, from Your hand comes all this abundance that we have provided to build You a house for Your holy Name, and all of it belongs to You.
O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee:
O
LORD, God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, keep this desire
forever in the intentions of the hearts of Your people, and direct their hearts toward You.
And David said to all the congregation, Now
bless the
LORD your God. And all the congregation blessed the
LORD God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped the
LORD, and the king.
Then David said to the whole assembly, “Blessed be the
LORD your God.” So the whole assembly blessed the
LORD, the God of their fathers. They bowed down and paid
homage to the
LORD and to the king.
And they sacrificed sacrifices unto the
LORD, and offered burnt offerings unto the
LORD, on the
morrow after that day, even a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel:
The next day they offered sacrifices and presented burnt offerings to the LORD: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, along with their drink offerings, and other sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.
And did eat and drink before the
LORD on that day with great
gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and
anointed him unto the
LORD to be the chief governor, and
Zadok to be priest.
That day they
ate and
drank with great joy in the presence of the
LORD. Then, for a second time, they designated David’s son Solomon as king,
anointing him before the
LORD as ruler, and
Zadok as the priest.
Then Solomon sat on the throne of the
LORD as king instead of David his father, and
prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.
So Solomon sat on the throne of the
LORD as king in place of his father David. He
prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.
And the
LORD magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.
The
LORD highly
exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal majesty such as had not been bestowed on any king in Israel before him.
And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the
LORD his God was with him, and
magnified him exceedingly.
Now Solomon son of David established himself securely over his kingdom, and the
LORD his God was with him and highly
exalted him.
So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at
Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the
LORD had made in the wilderness.
And Solomon and the whole assembly went to the high place at
Gibeon because it was the
location of God’s Tent of Meeting, which Moses the servant of the
LORD had made in the wilderness.
Moreover the
brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of
Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the
LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.
But the bronze altar made by Bezalel son of
Uri, the son of Hur, was in
Gibeon before the tabernacle of the
LORD. So Solomon and the assembly inquired of Him there.
And Solomon went up thither to the
brasen altar before the
LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.
Solomon offered sacrifices there before the LORD on the bronze altar in the Tent of Meeting, where he offered a thousand burnt offerings.
Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.
Now, O LORD God, let Your promise to my father David be fulfilled. For You have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.
And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.
Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the Name of the LORD and a royal palace for himself.
Behold, I build an house to the name of the
LORD my God, to
dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual
shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of the
LORD our God. This is an
ordinance for ever to Israel.
Behold, I am about to build a house for the Name of the
LORD my God to
dedicate to Him for burning
fragrant incense before Him, for displaying the
showbread continuously, and for making burnt offerings every morning and evening as well as on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts of the
LORD our God. This is ordained for Israel
forever.
Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the LORD hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them.
Then
Hiram king of Tyre wrote a letter in reply to Solomon: “Because the
LORD loves His people, He has set you over them as king.”
Huram said moreover, Blessed be the
LORD God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son,
endued with
prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the
LORD, and an house for his kingdom.
And
Hiram added: “Blessed be the
LORD, the God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth! He has given King David a wise son with insight and understanding, who will build a temple for the
LORD and a royal palace for himself.
The son of a woman of the daughters of
Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in
crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to find out every
device which shall be put to him, with thy
cunning men, and with the
cunning men of my
lord David thy father.
He is the son of a woman from the daughters of
Dan, and his father is a man of Tyre. He is skilled in work with gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, purple, blue, and
crimson yarn, and fine linen. He is experienced in every kind of engraving and can
execute any design that is given him. He will work with your
craftsmen and with those of my
lord, your father David.
Now therefore the wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants:
Now let my lord send to his servants the wheat, barley, olive oil, and wine he promised.
Then Solomon began to build the house of the
LORD at Jerusalem in mount
Moriah, where the
LORD appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Then Solomon began to build the house of the
LORD in Jerusalem on Mount
Moriah, where the
LORD had appeared to his father David. This was the place that David had prepared on the
threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all their instruments, did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the LORD of bright brass.
and the pots, shovels, meat forks, and all the other articles. All these objects that Huram-abi made for King Solomon for the house of the LORD were of polished bronze.
Thus all the work that Solomon made for the house of the LORD was finished: and Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated; and the silver, and the gold, and all the instruments, put he among the treasures of the house of God.
So all the work that Solomon had performed for the house of the
LORD was completed. Then Solomon brought in the items his father David had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and all the furnishings—and he placed them in the
treasuries of the house of God.
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the
LORD out of the city of David, which is
Zion.
At that time Solomon assembled in Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the
tribal heads and family leaders of the Israelites—to bring up the ark of the covenant of the
LORD from
Zion, the City of David.
And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the
LORD unto his place, to the
oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims:
Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the
LORD to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, beneath the wings of the
cherubim.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at
Horeb, when the
LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.
There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at
Horeb, where the
LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites after they had come out of Egypt.
It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and
thanking the
LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the
trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the
LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the
LORD;
The trumpeters and singers joined together to praise and
thank the
LORD with one voice. They lifted up their voices, accompanied by
trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments, in praise to the
LORD: “For He is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.” And the temple, the house of the
LORD, was filled with a cloud
So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.
so that the priests could not stand there to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.
Then said Solomon, The LORD hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
Then Solomon declared: “The LORD has said that He would dwell in the thick cloud;
And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,
and said: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has fulfilled with His own hand what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying,
Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
But the
LORD said to David my father,
Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou
didst well in that it was in thine heart:
But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Since it was in your heart to build a house for My Name, you have done well to have this in your heart.
The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now the LORD has fulfilled the word that He spoke. I have succeeded my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the children of Israel.
And there I have provided a place for the ark, which contains the covenant of the LORD that He made with the children of Israel.”
And he stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands.
And said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:
and said: “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven or on earth, keeping Your covenant of loving devotion with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.
Now therefore, O
LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take
heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’
Now then, O
LORD God of Israel, let thy word be
verified, which thou hast spoken unto thy servant David.
And now, O
LORD, God of Israel, please
confirm what You promised to Your servant David.
Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his
supplication, O
LORD my God, to
hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:
Yet regard the prayer and
plea of Your servant, O
LORD my God, so that You may hear the cry and the prayer that Your servant is praying before You.
Now therefore arise, O
LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O
LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints
rejoice in goodness.
Now therefore, arise, O
LORD God, and enter Your resting place, You and the ark of Your might. May Your priests, O
LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and may Your godly ones
rejoice in goodness.
O
LORD God, turn not away the face of thine
anointed: remember the
mercies of David thy servant.
O
LORD God, do not
reject Your
anointed one. Remember Your loving devotion to Your servant David.”
Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house.
When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.
And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’S house.
The priests were unable to enter the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled it.
And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the
LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the
pavement, and worshipped, and praised the
LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the
LORD above the temple, they bowed down on the
pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave
thanks to the
LORD: “For He is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.”
Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD.
Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD.
And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with instruments of musick of the
LORD, which David the king had made to praise the
LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded
trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.
The priests stood at their posts, as did the Levites with the musical instruments of the
LORD, which King David had made for giving
thanks to the
LORD and with which David had offered praise, saying, “For His loving devotion endures
forever.” Across from the Levites, the priests sounded
trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing.
Moreover Solomon
hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the
LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the
brasen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.
Then Solomon consecrated the middle of the
courtyard in front of the house of the
LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar he had made could not contain all these offerings.
And on the three and
twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents,
glad and
merry in heart for the goodness that the
LORD had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.
On the twenty-third day of the seventh month, Solomon sent the people away to their homes, joyful and
glad of heart for the good things that the
LORD had done for David, for Solomon, and for His people Israel.
Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king’s house: and all that came into Solomon’s heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.
When Solomon had finished the house of the LORD and the royal palace, successfully carrying out all that was in his heart to do for the house of the LORD and for his own palace,
And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.
the LORD appeared to him at night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.
And this house, which is high, shall be an
astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the
LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
And when this temple has become a
heap of
rubble, all who pass by it will be
appalled and say, ‘Why has the
LORD done such a thing to this land and to this temple?’
And it shall be answered, Because they
forsook the
LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.
And others will answer, ‘Because they have
forsaken the
LORD, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—because of this, He has brought all this
disaster upon them.’”
And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, wherein Solomon had built the house of the LORD, and his own house,
Now at the end of the twenty years during which Solomon had built the house of the LORD and his own palace,
And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy,
whereunto the ark of the
LORD hath come.
Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh up from the City of David to the palace he had built for her. For he said, “My wife must not live in the house of David king of Israel, because the places the ark of the LORD has entered are holy.”
Then Solomon offered burnt offerings unto the
LORD on the altar of the
LORD, which he had built before the
porch,
At that time Solomon offered burnt offerings to the
LORD on the altar of the
LORD he had built in front of the
portico.
Now all the work of Solomon was prepared unto the day of the foundation of the house of the LORD, and until it was finished. So the house of the LORD was perfected.
Thus all the work of Solomon was carried out, from the day the foundation was laid for the house of the LORD until it was finished. So the house of the LORD was completed.
And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their
apparel; his cupbearers also, and their
apparel; and his
ascent by which he went up into the house of the
LORD; there was no more spirit in her.
the food at his table, the seating of his servants, the service and
attire of his attendants and cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he presented at the house of the
LORD, it took her breath away.
Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, to be king for the LORD thy God: because thy God loved Israel, to establish them for ever, therefore made he thee king over them, to do judgment and justice.
Blessed be the
LORD your God, who has delighted in you to set you on His throne to be king for the
LORD your God. Because your God loved Israel enough to establish them
forever, He has made you king over them to carry out justice and righteousness.”
And the king made of the
algum trees terraces to the house of the
LORD, and to the king’s palace, and harps and
psalteries for singers: and there were none such seen before in the land of Judah.
The king made the
algum wood into steps for the house of the
LORD and for the king’s palace, and into lyres and harps for the singers. Never before had anything like them been seen in the land of Judah.)
So the king
hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the
LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
So the king did not
listen to the people, and indeed this turn of events was from God, in order that the
LORD might
fulfill the word that He had spoken through
Ahijah the Shilonite to
Jeroboam son of Nebat.
But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God:
Thus saith the
LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the
LORD, and returned from going against
Jeroboam.
that this is what the
LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers. Each of you must return home, for this word is from Me.’” So they
listened to the words of the
LORD and turned back from going against
Jeroboam.
For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for
Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from
executing the priest’s office unto the
LORD:
For the Levites left their pasturelands and their possessions and went to Judah and Jerusalem, because
Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as priests of the
LORD.
And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.
Those from every tribe of Israel who had set their hearts to seek the LORD their God followed the Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And it came to pass, when
Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he
forsook the law of the
LORD, and all Israel with him.
After
Rehoboam had established his sovereignty and royal power, he and all Israel with him
forsook the Law of the
LORD.
And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of king
Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had
transgressed against the
LORD,
In the fifth year of
Rehoboam’s reign, because they had been unfaithful to the
LORD,
Shishak king of Egypt came up and attacked Jerusalem
Then came Shemaiah the prophet to
Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of
Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the
LORD, Ye have
forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of
Shishak.
Then Shemaiah the prophet came to
Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah who had gathered at Jerusalem because of
Shishak, and he said to them, “This is what the
LORD says: ‘You have
forsaken Me; therefore, I have
forsaken you into the hand of
Shishak.’”
Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The
LORD is righteous.
So the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, “The LORD is righteous.”
And when the
LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the
LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some
deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of
Shishak.
When the
LORD saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of the
LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, “They have humbled themselves; I will not destroy them, but will soon grant them
deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through
Shishak.
So
Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the
LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
So King
Shishak of Egypt attacked Jerusalem and seized the treasures of the house of the
LORD and of the royal palace. He took everything, including the gold shields that Solomon had made.
And when the king entered into the house of the
LORD, the guard came and
fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.
And whenever the king entered the house of the
LORD, the guards would go with him, bearing the shields, and later they would return them to the
guardroom.
And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.
Because
Rehoboam humbled himself, the anger of the
LORD turned away from him, and He did not destroy him completely. Indeed, conditions were good in Judah.
So king
Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for
Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the
LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
Thus King
Rehoboam established himself in Jerusalem. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the
LORD had chosen from all the tribes of Israel in which to put His Name. His mother’s name was Naamah the
Ammonite.
And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.
And
Rehoboam did evil because he did not set his heart to seek the
LORD.
Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
Do you not know that the
LORD, the God of Israel, has given the
kingship of Israel to David and his descendants
forever by a covenant of salt?
Yet
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, is risen up, and hath rebelled against his
lord.
Yet
Jeroboam son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon son of David, rose up and rebelled against his master.
And now ye think to
withstand the kingdom of the
LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden
calves, which
Jeroboam made you for gods.
And now you think you can resist the kingdom of the
LORD, which is in the hands of David’s descendants. You are indeed a vast army, and you have with you the golden
calves that
Jeroboam made for you as gods.
Have ye not cast out the priests of the
LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that
whosoever cometh to
consecrate himself with a young
bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
But did you not drive out the priests of the
LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites? And did you not make priests for
yourselves as do the peoples of other lands? Now
whoever comes to
consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams can become a priest of things that are not gods.
But as for us, the
LORD is our God, and we have not
forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the
LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:
But as for us, the
LORD is our God. We have not
forsaken Him; the priests who minister to the
LORD are sons of Aaron, and the Levites attend to their duties.
And they burn unto the
LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the
shewbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the
candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the
LORD our God; but ye have
forsaken him.
Every morning and every evening they present burnt offerings and
fragrant incense to the
LORD. They set out the rows of
showbread on the
ceremonially clean table, and every evening they light the lamps of the gold lampstand. We are carrying out the requirements of the
LORD our God, while you have
forsaken Him.
And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding
trumpets to cry
alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the
LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not
prosper.
Now behold, God Himself is with us as our head, and His priests with their
trumpets sound the battle call against you. O children of Israel, do not fight against the
LORD, the God of your fathers, for you will not succeed.”
And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they
cried unto the
LORD, and the priests sounded with the
trumpets.
When Judah turned and discovered that the battle was both before and behind them, they
cried out to the
LORD. Then the priests
blew the
trumpets,
Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they
relied upon the
LORD God of their fathers.
Thus the Israelites were subdued at that time, and the men of Judah prevailed because they
relied on the
LORD, the God of their fathers.
Neither did
Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of
Abijah: and the
LORD struck him, and he died.
Jeroboam did not again recover his power during the days of
Abijah, and the
LORD struck him down and he died.
And
Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the
LORD his God:
And
Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the
LORD his God.
And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
He commanded the people of Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandments.
And he built
fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the
LORD had given him rest.
Because the land was at peace,
Asa built fortified cities in Judah. In those days no one made war with him, because the
LORD had given him rest.
