Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.
“And I, knowing their deeds and thoughts, am coming to gather all nations and tongues, and they will come and see My glory.
And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the
nations, to
Tarshish,
Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to
Tubal, and
Javan, to the isles
afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles.
I will establish a sign among them, and I will send survivors from among them to the
nations—to
Tarshish, Put, and the archers of Lud; to
Tubal,
Javan, and the islands far away who have not heard of My fame or seen My glory. So they will
proclaim My glory among the
nations.
And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD out of all
nations upon horses, and in
chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.
And they will bring all your brothers from all the
nations as a gift to the LORD on horses and
chariots and wagons, on mules and camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the LORD, “just as the Israelites bring an offering in a clean vessel to the house of the LORD.”
Before I formed thee in the
belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the
womb I
sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the
nations.
“Before I formed you in the
womb I knew you, and before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as a prophet to the
nations.”
See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
See, I have appointed you
today over
nations and kingdoms to
uproot and
tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and plant.”
Hath a
nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which
doth not profit.
Has a nation ever changed its gods, though they are no gods at all? Yet My people have exchanged their Glory for useless idols.
At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.
At that time Jerusalem will be called The Throne of the LORD, and all the
nations will be gathered in Jerusalem to honor the name of the LORD. They will no longer follow the
stubbornness of their evil hearts.
But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly
heritage of the hosts of
nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.
Then I said, ‘How I long to make you My sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance of all the nations!’ I thought you would call Me ‘Father’ and never turn away from following Me.
And thou shalt
swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the
nations shall
bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.
and if you can
swear, ‘As surely as the LORD lives,’ in truth, in justice, and in righteousness, then the
nations will be blessed by Him, and in Him they will glory.”
The lion is come up from his
thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land
desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.
A lion has gone up from his
thicket, and a destroyer of
nations has set out. He has left his
lair to lay waste your land. Your cities will be reduced to ruins and lie uninhabited.
Make ye mention to the
nations; behold,
publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.
Warn the
nations now!
Proclaim to Jerusalem: “A
besieging army comes from a distant land; they raise their voices against the cities of Judah.
Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be
avenged on such a
nation as this?
Should I not
punish them for these things?” declares the LORD. “Should I not
avenge Myself on such a
nation as this?
Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
Behold, I am bringing a distant nation against you, O house of Israel,” declares the LORD. “It is an established nation, an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know and whose speech you do not understand.
Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be
avenged on such a
nation as this?
Should I not
punish them for these things?” declares the LORD. “Should I not
avenge Myself on such a
nation as this?
Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.
Therefore hear, O nations, and learn, O congregations, what will happen to them.
Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.
This is what the LORD says: “Behold, an army is coming from the land of the north; a great
nation is
stirred up from the ends of the earth.
But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
Therefore you must say to them, ‘This is the
nation that would not
listen to the voice of the LORD their God and would not receive correction. Truth has perished; it has disappeared from their lips.
Shall I not visit them for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be
avenged on such a
nation as this?
Should I not
punish them for these things? declares the LORD. Should I not
avenge Myself on such a
nation as this?”
I will
scatter them also among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.
I will
scatter them among the
nations that neither they nor their fathers have known, and I will send a sword after them until I have finished them off.”
Egypt, and Judah, and
Edom, and the children of
Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these
nations are
uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are
uncircumcised in the heart.
Egypt, Judah,
Edom,
Ammon, Moab, and all the inhabitants of the desert who
clip the hair of their temples. For all these
nations are
uncircumcised, and the whole house of Israel is
uncircumcised in heart.”
Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
This is what the LORD says: “Do not learn the ways of the
nations or be
terrified by the signs in the heavens, though the
nations themselves are
terrified by them.
Who would not fear thee, O King of
nations? for to thee
doth it
appertain:
forasmuch as among all the wise men of the
nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.
Who would not fear You, O King of nations? This is Your due. For among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like You.
But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an
everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall
tremble, and the
nations shall not be able to
abide his
indignation.
But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and eternal King. The earth quakes at His wrath, and the
nations cannot
endure His
indignation.
Pour out thy
fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and
devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his
habitation desolate.
Pour out Your wrath on the
nations that do not acknowledge You, and on the families that do not call on Your name. For they have
devoured Jacob; they have consumed him and finished him off; they have
devastated his homeland.
But if they will not obey, I will utterly
pluck up and destroy that
nation, saith the LORD.
But if they will not obey, then I will
uproot that
nation; I will
uproot it and destroy it, declares the LORD.”
Are there any among the
vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.
Can the worthless idols of the
nations bring rain? Do the
skies alone send showers? Is this not by You, O LORD our God? So we put our hope in You, for You have done all these things.
O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of
affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.
O LORD, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in the day of distress, the nations will come to You from the ends of the earth, and they will say, “Our fathers inherited nothing but lies, worthless idols of no benefit at all.
At what instant I shall speak concerning a
nation, and concerning a kingdom, to
pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
At any time I might
announce that a
nation or kingdom will be uprooted,
torn down, and destroyed.
If that
nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will
repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
But if that
nation I
warned turns from its evil, then I will relent of the
disaster I had
planned to bring.
And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
And if at another time I
announce that I will build up and establish a
nation or kingdom,
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very
horrible thing.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: “Inquire among the nations: Who has ever heard things like these? Virgin Israel has done a most terrible thing.
And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a
potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall
bury them in
Tophet, till there be no place to
bury.
and you are to
proclaim to them that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I will
shatter this
nation and this city, like one
shatters a
potter’s
jar that can never again be repaired. They will
bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room to
bury them.
And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this great city?
And many nations will pass by this city and ask one another, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this great city?’
Weep ye not for the dead, neither
bemoan him: but
weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his
native country.
Do not
weep for the dead king; do not
mourn his loss.
Weep bitterly for the one who is exiled, for he will never return to see his
native land.
Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these
nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an
astonishment, and an
hissing, and perpetual desolations.
behold, I will
summon all the families of the north, declares the LORD, and I will send for My servant
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, whom I will bring against this land, against its residents, and against all the surrounding
nations. So I will
devote them to destruction and make them an object of
horror and contempt, an
everlasting desolation.
And this whole land shall be a
desolation, and an
astonishment; and these
nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
And this whole land will become a
desolate wasteland, and these
nations will serve the king of Babylon for seventy years.
And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will
punish the king of Babylon, and that
nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.
But when seventy years are complete, I will
punish the king of Babylon and that
nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their guilt, declares the LORD, and I will make it an
everlasting desolation.
And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath
prophesied against all the
nations.
I will bring upon that land all the words I have pronounced against it, all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah has
prophesied against all the
nations.
For many
nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will
recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.
For many
nations and great kings will
enslave them, and I will repay them according to their deeds and according to the work of their hands.’”
For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this
fury at my hand, and cause all the
nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.
This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from My hand this cup of the wine of wrath, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink from it.
Then took I the cup at the LORD’S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:
So I took the cup from the LORD’s hand and made all the nations drink from it, each one to whom the LORD had sent me,
A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the
nations, he will
plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.
The
tumult will resound to the ends of the earth because the LORD brings a charge against the
nations. He brings judgment on all mankind and puts the wicked to the sword,’” declares the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from
nation to
nation, and a great
whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Behold!
Disaster is spreading from
nation to
nation; a mighty storm is rising from the ends of the earth.”
Then will I make this house like
Shiloh, and will make this city a
curse to all the
nations of the earth.
then I will make this house like
Shiloh, and I will make this city an object of
cursing among all the
nations of the earth.’”
And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.
All
nations will serve him and his son and grandson, until the time of his own land comes; then many
nations and great kings will
enslave him.
And it shall come to pass, that the
nation and kingdom which will not serve the same
Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that
nation will I
punish, saith the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the
pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.
As for the
nation or kingdom that does not serve
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and does not place its neck under his yoke, I will
punish that
nation by sword and famine and plague, declares the LORD, until I have destroyed it by his hand.
But the nations that bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, those will I let remain still in their own land, saith the LORD; and they shall till it, and dwell therein.
But the
nation that will put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will leave in its own land, to
cultivate it and reside in it, declares the LORD.”
Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the
pestilence, as the LORD hath spoken against the
nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?
Why should you and your people die by sword and famine and plague, as the LORD has decreed against any nation that does not serve the king of Babylon?
And Hananiah spake in the presence of all the people, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Even so will I break the yoke of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all
nations within the space of two full years. And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.
And in the presence of all the people Hananiah proclaimed, “This is what the LORD says: ‘In this way, within two years I will break the yoke of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon off the neck of all the
nations.’” At this, Jeremiah the prophet went on his way.
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; I have put a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these
nations, that they may serve
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him: and I have given him the beasts of the field also.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these
nations to make them serve
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will serve him. I have even given him control of the beasts of the field.’”
And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the
nations, and from all the places
whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away
captive.
I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore you from captivity and gather you from all the nations and places to which I have banished you, declares the LORD. I will restore you to the place from which I sent you into exile.”
And I will
persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the
pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a
curse, and an
astonishment, and an
hissing, and a reproach, among all the
nations whither I have driven them:
I will pursue them with sword and famine and plague. I will make them a
horror to all the kingdoms of the earth—a
curse, a
desolation, and an object of
scorn and reproach among all the
nations to which I
banish them.
For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all
nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.
For I am with you to save you, declares the LORD. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have scattered you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
For thus saith the LORD; Sing with
gladness for Jacob, and
shout among the chief of the
nations:
publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the
remnant of Israel.
For this is what the LORD says: “Sing with joy for Jacob;
shout for the foremost of the
nations! Make your praises heard, and say, ‘O LORD, save Your people, the
remnant of Israel!’
Hear the word of the LORD, O ye
nations, and declare it in the isles
afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a
shepherd doth his flock.
Hear, O
nations, the word of the LORD, and
proclaim it in distant coastlands: “The One who scattered Israel will gather them and keep them as a
shepherd keeps his flock.
If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.
“Only if this fixed order departed from My presence, declares the LORD, would Israel’s descendants ever cease to be a nation before Me.”
And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the
nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and
tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I
procure unto it.
So this city will bring Me
renown, joy, praise, and glory before all the
nations of the earth, who will hear of all the good I do for it. They will
tremble in
awe because of all the goodness and prosperity that I will provide for it.
Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the LORD hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have
despised my people, that they should be no more a
nation before them.
“Have you not noticed what these people are saying: ‘The LORD has rejected the two families He had chosen’? So they
despise My people and no longer regard them as a
nation.
The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD when
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, all his army, all the earthly kingdoms under his control, and all the other
nations were fighting against Jerusalem and all its surrounding cities.
Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the
nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of
Josiah, even into this day.
“Take a
scroll and write on it all the words I have spoken to you concerning Israel, Judah, and all the
nations, from the day I first spoke to you during the reign of
Josiah until
today.
But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the
remnant of Judah, that were returned from all
nations,
whither they had been driven, to dwell in the land of Judah;
Instead, Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces took the whole
remnant of Judah, those who had returned to the land of Judah from all the
nations to which they had been scattered,
In that ye
provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt,
whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut
yourselves off, and that ye might be a
curse and a reproach among all the
nations of the earth?
Why are you
provoking Me to anger by the work of your hands by burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have gone to reside? As a result, you will be cut off and will become an object of
cursing and reproach among all the
nations of the earth.
The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles;
This is the word of the LORD about the nations—the word that came to Jeremiah the prophet
The
nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath
stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.
The
nations have heard of your shame, and your outcry fills the earth, because
warrior stumbles over
warrior and both of them have fallen together.”
He made many to fall,
yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our
nativity, from the
oppressing sword.
They continue to
stumble; indeed, they have fallen over one another. They say, ‘Get up! Let us return to our people and to the land of our birth, away from the sword of the
oppressor.’
Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the
nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.
And you, My servant Jacob, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, for I am with you. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have banished you, I will not completely destroy you. Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished.”
There shall be no more praise of Moab: in
Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a
nation. Also thou shalt be cut down, O
Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee.
There is no longer praise for Moab; in
Heshbon they
devise evil against her: ‘Come, let us cut her off from
nationhood.’ You too, O people of
Madmen, will be silenced; the sword will pursue you.
And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath
magnified himself against the LORD.
Moab will be destroyed as a
nation because he
vaunted himself against the LORD.
I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.
I have heard a message from the LORD; an
envoy has been sent to the
nations: “
Assemble yourselves to march against her! Rise up for battle!”
For, lo, I will make thee small among the heathen, and
despised among men.
“For behold, I will make you small among
nations,
despised among men.
Arise, get you up unto the wealthy nation, that dwelleth without care, saith the LORD, which have neither gates nor bars, which dwell alone.
Rise up, advance against a nation at ease, one that dwells securely,” declares the LORD. “They have no gates or bars; they live alone.
And upon
Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will
scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no
nation whither the outcasts of
Elam shall not come.
I will bring the four winds against
Elam from the four corners of the heavens, and I will
scatter them to all these winds. There will not be a
nation to which
Elam’s exiles will not go.
Declare ye among the
nations, and
publish, and set up a standard;
publish, and
conceal not: say, Babylon is taken,
Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.
“
Announce and declare to the
nations; lift up a
banner and
proclaim it; hold nothing back when you say, ‘Babylon is captured;
Bel is put to shame; Marduk is
shattered, her images are disgraced, her idols are broken in pieces.’
For out of the north there cometh up a
nation against her, which shall make her land
desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.
For a
nation from the north will come against her; it will make her land a
desolation. No one will live in it; both man and beast will
flee.”
For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great
nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in
array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty
expert man; none shall return in vain.
For behold, I
stir up and bring against Babylon an assembly of great
nations from the land of the north. They will line up against her; from the north she will be captured. Their arrows will be like skilled warriors who do not return empty-handed.
Your mother shall be
sore confounded; she that bare you shall be
ashamed: behold, the
hindermost of the
nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
your mother will be greatly
ashamed; she who bore you will be disgraced. Behold, she will be the least of the
nations, a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
How is the hammer of the whole earth cut
asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a
desolation among the
nations!
How the hammer of the whole earth lies broken and
shattered! What a
horror Babylon has become among the
nations!
Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
Behold, an army is coming from the north; a great
nation and many kings are
stirred up from the ends of the earth.
At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.
At the sound of Babylon’s capture the earth will
quake; a cry will be heard among the
nations.
Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD’S hand, that made all the earth
drunken: the
nations have
drunken of her wine; therefore the
nations are
mad.
Babylon was a gold cup in the hand of the LORD, making the whole earth
drunk. The
nations drank her wine; therefore the
nations have gone
mad.
Thou art my battle
axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the
nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;
“You are My war club, My weapon for battle. With you I
shatter nations; with you I bring kingdoms to ruin.
Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the
trumpet among the
nations, prepare the
nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of
Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz;
appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.
“Raise a
banner in the land! Blow the ram’s horn among the
nations! Prepare the
nations against her.
Summon the kingdoms against her—
Ararat, Minni, and
Ashkenaz.
Appoint a captain against her; bring up horses like
swarming locusts.
Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, the captains thereof, and all the rulers thereof, and all the land of his dominion.
Prepare the nations for battle against her— the kings of the Medes, their governors and all their officials, and all the lands they rule.
How is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an
astonishment among the
nations!
How Sheshach has been captured! The praise of all the earth has been seized. What a
horror Babylon has become among the
nations!
And I will
punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath
swallowed up: and the
nations shall not flow together any more unto him:
yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.
I will
punish Bel in Babylon. I will make him
spew out what he
swallowed. The
nations will no longer stream to him; even the wall of Babylon will fall.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labour in vain, and the
folk in the fire, and they shall be
weary.
This is what the LORD of Hosts says: “Babylon’s thick walls will be leveled, and her high gates consumed by fire. So the labor of the people will be for nothing; the
nations will
exhaust themselves to fuel the flames.”
How
doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people how is she become as a widow she that was great among the
nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary
How
lonely lies the city, once so full of people! She who was great among the
nations has become a widow. The princess of the provinces has become a slave.
Judah is gone into captivity because of
affliction, and because of great
servitude: she dwelleth among the heathen, she findeth no rest: all her persecutors overtook her between the straits.
Judah has gone into exile under
affliction and harsh slavery; she dwells among the
nations but finds no place to rest. All her pursuers have overtaken her in the midst of her distress.
The
adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things: for she hath seen that the heathen entered into her sanctuary, whom thou
didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.
The
adversary has seized all her treasures. For she has seen the
nations enter her sanctuary— those You had forbidden to enter Your assembly.
Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.
Her gates have sunk into the ground; He has destroyed and
shattered their bars. Her king and her princes are exiled among the
nations, the law is no more, and even her prophets find no vision from the LORD.
Thou hast made us as the
offscouring and refuse in the midst of the people.
You have made us
scum and refuse among the
nations.
They
cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and
wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more
sojourn there.
“Go away! Unclean!” men
shouted at them. “Away, away! Do not touch us!” So they fled and
wandered. Among the
nations it was said, “They can stay here no longer.”
As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.
All the while our eyes were failing as we looked in vain for help. We watched from our towers for a nation that could not save us.
The breath of our nostrils, the
anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.
The LORD’s
anointed, the breath of our life, was captured in their pits. We had said of him, “Under his shadow we will live among the
nations.”
And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a
rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have
transgressed against me, even unto this very day.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “I am sending you to the Israelites, to a
rebellious nation that has rebelled against Me. To this very day they and their fathers have rebelled against Me.
And the LORD said, Even thus shall the children of Israel eat their
defiled bread among the Gentiles,
whither I will drive them.
Then the LORD said, “This is how the Israelites will eat their
defiled bread among the
nations to which I will
banish them.”
Thus saith the Lord GOD; This is Jerusalem: I have set it in the midst of the nations and countries that are round about her.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘This is Jerusalem, which I have set in the center of the nations, with countries all around her.
And she hath changed my judgments into wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that are round about her: for they have refused my judgments and my statutes, they have not walked in them.
But she has rebelled against My ordinances more wickedly than the nations, and against My statutes worse than the countries around her. For her people have rejected My ordinances and have not walked in My statutes.’
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye multiplied more than the nations that are round about you, and have not walked in my statutes, neither have kept my judgments, neither have done according to the judgments of the nations that are round about you;
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘You have been more insubordinate than the
nations around you; you have not walked in My statutes or kept My ordinances, nor have you even
conformed to the ordinances of the
nations around you.’
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, am against thee, and will
execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the
nations.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I Myself am against you, Jerusalem, and I will
execute judgments among you in the sight of the
nations.
