And one of the elders saith unto me,
Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
Then one of the elders said to me, “Do
not weep! Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed to open the
scroll and its seven seals.”
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a
penny, and three measures of barley for a
penny; and see thou
hurt not the oil and the wine.
And I heard what sounded like a voice from among the four living creatures, saying, “A
quart of wheat for a
denarius, and three quarts of barley for a
denarius, and do
not harm the oil and wine.”
And they
cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true,
dost thou
not judge and
avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
And they
cried out in a loud voice, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You
avenge our blood and judge those who dwell upon the earth?”
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back its four winds so that no wind would blow on land or sea or on any tree.
Saying,
Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.
“Do
not harm the land or sea or trees until we have sealed the foreheads of the servants of our God.”
And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was
smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was
darkened, and the day
shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
Then the fourth angel sounded his
trumpet, and a third of the sun and moon and stars were struck. A third of the stars were
darkened, a third of the day was without light, and a third of the night as well.
And it was commanded them that they should
not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have
not the seal of God in their foreheads.
They were told
not to
harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those who did
not have the seal of God on their foreheads.
And to them it was given that they should
not kill them, but that they should be
tormented five months: and their
torment was as the
torment of a
scorpion, when he striketh a man.
And in those days shall men seek death, and shall
not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall
flee from them.
In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, but death will escape them.
And the rest of the men which were
not killed by these plagues yet
repented not of the works of their hands, that they should
not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
Now the rest of mankind who were
not killed by these plagues still did
not repent of the works of their hands. They did
not stop worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk.
And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.
When the seven thunders had spoken, I was about to put it in writing. But I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said, and do not write it down.”
But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it
not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they
tread under foot forty and two months.
But
exclude the
courtyard outside the temple. Do
not measure it, because it has been given over to the nations, and they will
trample the holy city for 42 months.
These have power to shut heaven, that it rain
not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to
smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
These witnesses have power to shut the sky so that no rain will fall during the days of their prophecy, and power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they wish.
And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
For three and a half days all peoples and tribes and tongues and nations will view their bodies and will not permit them to be laid in a tomb.
And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
But the
dragon was
not strong enough, and no longer was any place found in heaven for him and his angels.
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
They have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. And they did
not love their lives so as to
shy away from death.
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
And all who dwell on the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written from the foundation of the world in the Book of Life belonging to the Lamb who was slain.
And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
The second beast was permitted to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship it to be killed.
These are they which were
not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb
whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
These are the ones who have
not been
defiled with women, for they are virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever He goes. They have been redeemed from among men as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.
Who shall
not fear thee, O Lord, and
glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.
Who will
not fear You, O Lord, and
glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed.”
And men were
scorched with great heat, and
blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they
repented not to give him glory.
And the people were
scorched by intense heat, and they
cursed the name of God, who had authority over these plagues; yet they did
not repent and give Him glory.
And
blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and
repented not of their deeds.
and
curse the God of heaven for their pains and sores; yet they did
not repent of their deeds.
Behold, I come as a
thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
“Behold, I am coming like a
thief. Blessed is the one who remains
awake and clothed, so that he will
not go naked and let his shame be exposed.”
And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great
earthquake, such as was
not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an
earthquake, and so great.
And there were
flashes of
lightning, and rumblings, and peals of
thunder, and a great
earthquake the likes of which had
not occurred since men were upon the earth—so mighty was the great
quake.
And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.
Then every island fled, and no mountain could be found.
The beast that thou sawest was, and is
not; and shall
ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into
perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were
not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is
not, and yet is.
The beast that you saw—it was, and now is no more, but is about to come up out of the
Abyss and go to its destruction. And those who dwell on the earth whose names were
not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world will
marvel when they see the beast that was, and is
not, and yet will be.
And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for only a little while.
And the beast that was, and is
not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into
perdition.
The beast that was, and now is not, is an eighth king, who belongs to the other seven and is going into destruction.
And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but will receive one hour of authority as kings, along with the beast.
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “Come out of her, My people, so that you will not share in her sins or contract any of her plagues.
How much she hath
glorified herself, and lived
deliciously, so much
torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
As much as she has
glorified herself and lived in
luxury, give her the same measure of
torment and grief. In her heart she says, ‘I sit as queen; I am
not a widow and will never see grief.’
And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
So I fell at his feet to worship him. But he told me, “Do
not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who
rely on the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should
deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
And he threw him into the
Abyss, shut it, and sealed it over him, so that he could
not deceive the nations until the thousand years were complete. After that, he must be released for a brief period of time.
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were
beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had
not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Then I saw the thrones, and those seated on them had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been
beheaded for their testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had
not worshiped the beast or its image, and had
not received its mark on their foreheads or hands. And they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years were complete. This is the first resurrection.
And
whosoever was
not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
And if
anyone was found whose name was
not written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
Its gates will never be shut at the end of the day, because there will be no night there.
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither
whatsoever worketh
abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
But
nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor
anyone who practices an
abomination or a lie, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
But he said to me, “Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!”
And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of prophecy in this book, because the time is near.
Moreover the
porters were at every gate; it was
not lawful for any to go from his ordinary service: for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
And such a
passover was
not kept in Israel since the time of the prophet Samuel.
Yea, all the kings of Israel held
not such a
passover as Josias, and the priests, and the Levites, and the Jews, held with all Israel that were found dwelling at Jerusalem.
I am
not sent out from the Lord God against thee; for my war is upon Euphrates: and now the Lord is with me,
yea, the Lord is with me hasting me forward: depart from me, and be
not against the Lord.
Howbeit Josias did
not turn back his
chariot from him, but undertook to fight with him,
not regarding the words of the prophet Jeremy spoken by the mouth of the Lord:
And he did evil also in the sight of the Lord, and cared not for the words that were spoken unto him by the prophet Jeremy from the mouth of the Lord.
And as for her glorious things, they never ceased till they had consumed and brought them all to
nought: and the people that were
not slain with the sword he carried unto Babylon:
Now if this city and the walls thereof be made up again, they will
not only refuse to give tribute, but also
rebel against kings.
And
forasmuch as the things pertaining to the temple are now in hand, we think it meet
not to neglect such a matter,
But when they are from the wine, they remember not what they have done.
O ye men, is not wine the strongest, that enforceth to do thus? And when he had so spoken, he held his peace.
O ye men, do
not men
excel in strength that bear rule over sea and land and all things in them?
They
slay and are slain, and
transgress not the king’s commandment: if they get the victory, they bring all to the king, as well the
spoil, as all things else.
Likewise for those that are no soldiers, and have
not to do with wars, but use husbundry, when they have
reaped again that which they had sown, they bring it to the king, and
compel one another to pay tribute unto the king.
O ye men, how should not the king be mightiest, when in such sort he is obeyed? And he held his tongue.
O ye men, it is
not the great king, nor the multitude of men, neither is it wine, that excelleth; who is it then that ruleth them, or hath the
lordship over them? are they
not women?
Yea, and if men have gathered together gold and silver, or any other goodly thing, do they
not love a woman which is comely in favour and beauty?
And
letting all those things go, do they
not gape, and even with open mouth fix their eyes fast on her; and have
not all men more desire unto her than unto silver or gold, or any goodly thing
whatsoever?
He sticketh
not to
spend his life with his wife. and remembereth neither father, nor mother, nor country.
By this also ye must know that women have dominion over you: do ye
not labour and
toil, and give and bring all to the woman?
And now do ye not believe me? is not the king great in his power? do not all regions fear to touch him?
O ye men, are not women strong? great is the earth, high is the heaven, swift is the sun in his course, for he compasseth the heavens round about, and fetcheth his course again to his own place in one day.
Is he not great that maketh these things? therefore great is the truth, and stronger than all things.
And of the priests that
usurped the office of the priesthood, and were
not found: the sons of Obdia, the sons of Accoz, the sons of Addus, who married Augia one of the daughters of Barzelus, and was named after his name.
And when the description of the kindred of these men was sought in the register, and was
not found, they were removed from
executing the office of the priesthood:
For unto them said Nehemias and Atharias, that they should not be partakers of the holy things, till there arose up an high priest clothed with doctrine and truth.
And all they that had made any
vow to God began to offer sacrifices to God from the first day of the seventh month, although the temple of the Lord was
not yet built.
Insomuch that the
trumpets might
not be heard for the
weeping of the people: yet the multitude sounded marvellously, so that it was heard
afar off.
Then Zorobabel and Jesus and the chief of the families of Israel said unto them, It is not for us and you to build together an house unto the Lord our God.
And they were
not hindered from building, until such time as signification was given unto
Darius concerning them, and an answer received.
Then the same Sanabassarus, being come
hither, laid the foundations of the house of the Lord at Jerusalem; and from that time to this being still a building, it is
not yet fully ended.
And also he commanded that Sisinnes the governor of Syria and Phenice, and Sathrabuzanes, and their companions, and those which were appointed rulers in Syria and Phenice, should be careful
not to
meddle with the place, but suffer Zorobabel, the servant of the Lord, and governor of
Judea, and the elders of the Jews, to build the house of the Lord in that place.
They that were of the captivity were
not all
sanctified together: but the Levites were all
sanctified together.
For
Esdras had very great skill, so that he omitted
nothing of the law and commandments of the Lord, but taught all Israel the ordinances and judgments.
Let all things be performed after the law of God
diligently unto the most high God, that wrath come
not upon the kingdom of the king and his sons.
And thou,
Esdras, according to the wisdom of God
ordain judges and justices, that they may judge in all Syria and Phenice all those that know the law of thy God; and those that know it
not thou shalt teach.
The nation of Israel, the princes, the priests and Levites, have
not put away from them the strange people of the land, nor the pollutions of the Gentiles to wit, of the
Canaanites,
Hittites, Pheresites, Jebusites, and the Moabites, Egyptians, and Edomites.
Yea, when we were in
bondage, we were
not forsaken of our Lord; but he made us
gracious before the kings of Persia, so that they gave us food;
Therefore now shall ye not join your daughters unto their sons, neither shall ye take their daughters unto your sons.
Mightest
not thou be
angry with us to destroy us, till thou hadst left us neither root, seed, nor name?
And that
whosoever met
not there within two or three days according as the elders that bare rule appointed, their cattle should be seized to the use of the temple, and himself cast out from them that were of the captivity.
But
forasmuch as the people are many, and it is foul weather, so that we cannot stand without, and this is
not a work of a day or two, seeing our sin in these things is spread far:
Go then, and eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send part to them that have nothing;
For this day is holy unto the Lord: and be not sorrowful; for the Lord will bring you to honour.
So the Levites published all things to the people, saying, This day is holy to the Lord; be not sorrowful.
Then went they their way, every one to eat and drink, and make
merry, and to give part to them that had
nothing, and to make great
cheer;
Am
not I even he that brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the house of
bondage? but they have
provoked me unto wrath, and
despised my counsels.
Pull thou off then the hair of thy head, and cast all evil upon them, for they have
not been
obedient unto my law, but it is a
rebellious people.
And triumphed
not in my name for the destruction of your enemies, but ever to this day do ye yet
murmur.
Where are the benefits that I have done for you? when ye were
hungry and
thirsty in the wilderness, did ye
not cry unto me,
When ye were
thirsty, did I
not cleave the rock, and waters flowed out to your fill? for the heat I covered you with the leaves of the trees.
I gave you not fire for your blasphemies, but cast a tree in the water, and made the river sweet.
What shall I do unto thee, O Jacob? thou, Juda, wouldest not obey me: I will turn me to other nations, and unto those will I give my name, that they may keep my statutes.
Whensoever ye shall call upon me, I will
not hear you: for ye have
defiled your hands with blood, and your feet are swift to commit
manslaughter.
Ye have
not as it were
forsaken me, but your own
selves, saith the Lord.
Thus saith the
Almighty Lord, Have I
not prayed you as a father his sons, as a mother her daughters, and a
nurse her young babes,
And your children shall
not be fruitful; for they have
despised my commandment, and done the thing that is an evil before me.
Your houses will I give to a people that shall come; which not having heard of me yet shall believe me; to whom I have shewed no signs, yet they shall do that I have commanded them.
I take to witness the grace of the people to come, whose little ones
rejoice in
gladness: and though they have
not seen me with bodily eyes, yet in spirit they believe the thing that I say.
