And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the
dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times:
only on that day they compassed the city seven times.
Then on the seventh day, they got up at
dawn and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. That was the
only day they circled the city seven times.
And the city shall be
accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD:
only Rahab the
harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she
hid the messengers that we sent.
Now the city and everything in it must be devoted to the LORD for destruction.
Only Rahab the
prostitute and all those with her in her house will live, because she
hid the
spies we sent.
And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.
Then the Israelites burned up the city and everything in it. However, they put the silver and gold and articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD’s house.
And Joshua said,
Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the
Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!
“O, Lord GOD,” Joshua said, “why did You ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hand of the
Amorites to be destroyed? If
only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!
And thou shalt do to
Ai and her king as thou
didst unto
Jericho and her king:
only the
spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto
yourselves: lay thee an
ambush for the city behind it.
Only the cattle and the
spoil of that city Israel took for a prey unto themselves, according unto the word of the LORD which he commanded Joshua.
Israel took for themselves
only the cattle and
plunder of that city, as the LORD had commanded Joshua.
But as for the cities that stood still in their strength, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn.
Yet Israel did not burn any of the cities built on their mounds, except Hazor, which Joshua burned.
There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel:
only in
Gaza, in
Gath, and in
Ashdod, there remained.
All the inhabitants of the hill country from
Lebanon unto Misrephoth-
maim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel:
only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.
All the inhabitants of the hill country from
Lebanon to Misrephoth-
maim—all the Sidonians—I Myself will drive out before the Israelites. Be sure to divide it by lot as an inheritance to Israel, as I have commanded you.
Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave none inheritance; the sacrifices of the LORD God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, as he said unto them.
To the tribe of Levi, however, Moses had given no inheritance. The offerings made by fire to the LORD, the God of Israel, are their inheritance, just as He had promised them.
But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of
Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of
Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters, Mahlah, and
Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
But Zelophehad son of Hepher (the son of
Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of
Manasseh) had no sons but
only daughters. These are the names of his daughters: Mahlah,
Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to
inherit, seeing I am a great people,
forasmuch as the LORD hath blessed me hitherto?
Then the sons of Joseph said to Joshua, “Why have you given us only one portion as an inheritance? We have many people, because the LORD has blessed us abundantly.”
And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to
Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot
only:
So Joshua said to the house of Joseph—to Ephraim and
Manasseh—“You have many people and great strength. You shall not have just one
allotment,
Did not
Achan the son of Zerah commit a
trespass in the
accursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.
Was not
Achan son of Zerah unfaithful regarding what was set apart for destruction, bringing wrath upon the whole congregation of Israel? Yet it was not
only Achan who perished because of his sin!’”
Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;
if only to teach warfare to the subsequent generations of Israel, especially to those who had not known it formerly:
Behold, I will put a
fleece of wool in the floor; and if the
dew be on the
fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou
wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.
then behold, I will place a
fleece of wool on the
threshing floor. If there is
dew only on the
fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that You are going to save Israel by my hand, as You have said.”
And
Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the
fleece; let it now be dry
only upon the
fleece, and upon all the ground let there be
dew.
Then
Gideon said to God, “Do not be
angry with me; let me speak one more time. Please allow me one more test with the
fleece. This time let it be dry, and the ground covered with
dew.”
And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the
fleece only, and there was
dew on all the ground.
And that night God did so.
Only the
fleece was dry, and
dew covered the ground.
And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove
Abimelech. And he said to
Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.
If
only this people were under my authority, I would remove
Abimelech; I would say to him, ‘Muster your army and come out!’”
And the children of Israel said unto the LORD, We have
sinned: do thou unto us
whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us
only, we pray thee, this day.
“We have
sinned,” the Israelites said to the LORD. “Deal with us as You see fit; but please deliver us
today!”
And
Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with
timbrels and with dances: and she was his
only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.
And when
Jephthah returned home to
Mizpah, there was his daughter coming out to meet him with tambourines and dancing! She was his
only child; he had no son or daughter besides her.
And
Samson lay till
midnight, and arose at
midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before
Hebron.
But
Samson lay there
only until
midnight, when he got up, took hold of the doors of the city gate and both gateposts, and pulled them out, bar and all. Then he put them on his shoulders and took them to the top of the mountain overlooking
Hebron.
And
Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and
strengthen me, I pray thee,
only this once, O God, that I may be at once
avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
Then
Samson called out to the LORD: “O Lord GOD, please remember me.
Strengthen me, O God, just once more, so that with one
vengeful blow I may pay back the Philistines for my two eyes.”
And the old man said, Peace be with thee;
howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me;
only lodge not in the street.
“Peace to you,” said the old man. “Let me supply everything you need.
Only do not
spend the night in the square.”
And she
vowed a
vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou
wilt indeed look on the
affliction of thine
handmaid, and remember me, and not
forget thine
handmaid, but
wilt give unto thine
handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no
razor come upon his head.
Now
Hannah, she spake in her heart;
only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore
Eli thought she had been
drunken.
Hannah was praying in her heart, and though her lips were moving, her voice could not be heard. So
Eli thought she was
drunk And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good;
tarry until thou have
weaned him;
only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son
suck until she
weaned him.
“Do what you think is best,” her husband Elkanah replied, “and stay here until you have
weaned him.
Only may the LORD
confirm His word.” So
Hannah stayed and
nursed her son until she had
weaned him.
Also before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to
roast for the priest; for he will not have
sodden flesh of thee, but raw.
Even before the fat was burned, the servant of the priest would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, “Give the priest some meat to
roast, because he will not accept boiled meat from you, but
only raw.”
And when they arose early on the
morrow morning, behold,
Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of
Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the
threshold;
only the
stump of
Dagon was left to him.
But when they got up early the next morning, there was
Dagon, fallen on his face before the ark of the LORD, with his head and his hands broken off and lying on the
threshold.
Only the
torso remained.
And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and
Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him
only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
Then Samuel said to all the house of Israel, “If you are returning to the LORD with all your hearts, then rid
yourselves of the foreign gods and Ashtoreths among you, prepare your hearts for the LORD, and serve Him
only. And He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.”
Then the children of Israel did put away
Baalim and
Ashtaroth, and served the LORD
only.
So the Israelites put away the Baals and Ashtoreths and served only the LORD.
Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.
Above all, fear the LORD and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things He has done for you.
So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor
spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and
Jonathan: but with Saul and with
Jonathan his son was there found.
So on the day of battle not a sword or
spear could be found in the hands of the troops with Saul and
Jonathan;
only Saul and his son
Jonathan had weapons.
Then Saul said to
Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And
Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine hand, and, lo, I must die.
“Tell me what you have done,” Saul commanded him. So
Jonathan told him, “I
only tasted a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand. And now I must die?”
And Saul was very
wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?
And Saul was
furious and resented this song. “They have ascribed tens of thousands to David,” he said, “but
only thousands to me. What more can he have but the kingdom?”
And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife:
only be thou
valiant for me, and fight the LORD’S battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
Then Saul said to David, “Here is my older daughter Merab. I will give her to you in marriage.
Only be
valiant for me and fight the LORD’s battles.” But Saul was thinking, “I need not raise my hand against him; let the hand of the Philistines be against him.”
And thou shalt not
only while yet I live
shew me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not:
And as long as I live, treat me with the LORD’s loving devotion, that I may not die,
But the
lad knew not any thing:
only Jonathan and David knew the matter.
But the boy did not know anything;
only Jonathan and David knew the arrangement.
And the princes of the Philistines were
wroth with him; and the princes of the Philistines said unto him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place which thou hast appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he be an
adversary to us: for
wherewith should he
reconcile himself unto his master? should it not be with the heads of these men?
But the commanders of the Philistines were
angry with Achish and told him, “Send that man back and let him return to the place you assigned him. He must not go down with us into battle
only to become our
adversary during the war. What better way for him to regain the favor of his master than with the heads of our men?
Then
Abner called to
Joab, and said, Shall the sword
devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then,
ere thou
bid the people return from following their brethren?
Then
Abner called out to
Joab: “Must the sword
devour forever? Do you not
realize that this will
only end in bitterness? How long before you tell the troops to stop pursuing their brothers?”
And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons; for Amnon
only is dead: for by the appointment of
Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
But Jonadab, the son of David’s brother Shimeah, spoke up: “My lord must not think they have killed all the sons of the king, for
only Amnon is dead. In fact,
Absalom has
planned this since the day Amnon
violated his sister Tamar.
Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king’s sons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.
So now, my lord the king, do not take to heart the report that all the sons of the king are dead. Only Amnon is dead.”
Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!
And he would add, “If
only someone would
appoint me judge in the land, then
everyone with a
grievance or dispute could come to me, and I would give him justice.”
Whereas thou camest but
yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go
whither I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth be with thee.
In fact, you arrived
only yesterday; should I make you
wander around with us
today while I do not know where I am going? Go back and take your brothers with you. May the LORD show you loving devotion and faithfulness.”
And I will come upon him while he is
weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall
flee; and I will
smite the king
only:
I will attack him while he is weak and
weary; I will throw him into a
panic, and all the people with him will
flee; I will strike down
only the king
And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.
and bring all the people back to you as a
bride returning to her husband. You seek the life of
only one man; then all the people will be at peace.”
And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and
wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son
Absalom, my son, my son
Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O
Absalom, my son, my son!
The king was
shaken and went up to the gate chamber and
wept. And as he walked, he
cried out, “O my son
Absalom! My son, my son
Absalom! If
only I had died instead of you, O
Absalom, my son, my son!”
Thy servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king
recompense it me with such a reward?
Your servant could go with the king only a short distance past the Jordan; why should the king repay me with such a reward?
The matter is not so: but a man of mount Ephraim,
Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David: deliver him
only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto
Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.
That is not the case. But a man named
Sheba son of Bichri, from the hill country of Ephraim, has lifted up his hand against the king, against David. Deliver him alone, and I will depart from the city.” “Look,” the woman replied, “his head will be thrown to you over the wall.”
He arose, and
smote the Philistines until his hand was
weary, and his hand
clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him
only to
spoil.
but
Eleazar stood his ground and struck the Philistines until his hand grew
weary and
stuck to his sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that day. Then the troops returned to him, but
only to
plunder the dead.
Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built unto the name of the LORD, until those days.
The people, however, were still sacrificing on the high places because a house for the Name of the LORD had not yet been built.
And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.
And Solomon loved the LORD and walked in the statutes of his father David, except that he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
And now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king in my father David’s place. But I am only a little child, not knowing how to go out or come in.
Geber the son of
Uri was in the country of
Gilead, in the country of Sihon king of the
Amorites, and of
Og king of
Bashan; and he was the
only officer which was in the land.
Geber son of
Uri in the land of
Gilead, including the territories of Sihon king of the
Amorites and of
Og king of
Bashan. There was also one governor in the land of Judah.
Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take
heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk before Me as you have done.’
Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and
forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou
only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)
be heard by You from heaven, Your dwelling place. And may You
forgive and act, and repay each man according to all his ways, since You know his heart—for You alone know the hearts of all men—
And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that
Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah
only.
When all Israel heard that
Jeroboam had returned, they summoned him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel.
Only the tribe of Judah followed the house of David.
And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee: and yet thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in mine eyes;
I
tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you. But you were not like My servant David, who kept My commandments and followed Me with all his heart, doing
only what was right in My eyes.
And all Israel shall
mourn for him, and
bury him: for he
only of
Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward the LORD God of Israel in the house of
Jeroboam.
All Israel will
mourn for him and
bury him. For this is the
only one belonging to
Jeroboam who will receive a proper burial, because
only in him has the LORD, the God of Israel, found any good in the house of
Jeroboam.
Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not turned aside from anything the LORD commanded all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
And the people that were
encamped heard say, Zimri hath
conspired, and hath also slain the king: wherefore all Israel made Omri, the captain of the host, king over Israel that day in the camp.
and the people in the camp heard that Zimri had not
only conspired but had also struck down the king. So there in the camp that very day, all Israel proclaimed Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel.
And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a
cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a
cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
But she replied, “As surely as the LORD your God lives, I have no bread—
only a handful of flour in a
jar and a little oil in a
jug. Look, I am gathering a couple of sticks to take home and prepare a meal for myself and my son, so that we may eat it and die.”
Then said
Elijah unto the people, I, even I
only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but
Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
Then
Elijah said to the people, “I am the
only remaining prophet of the LORD, but
Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets.
And he said, I have been very
jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have
forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I
only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
“I have been very
zealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the Israelites have
forsaken Your covenant,
torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I am the
only one left, and they are seeking my life as well.”
And he said, I have been very
jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have
forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I
only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
“I have been very
zealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the Israelites have
forsaken Your covenant,
torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I am the
only one left, and they are seeking my life as well.”
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may
enquire of the LORD: but I
hate him; for he
doth not
prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And
Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
The king of Israel answered, “There is still one man who can ask the LORD, but I
hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me, but
only bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” “The king should not say that!”
Jehoshaphat replied.
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would
prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?
Then the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you that he never prophesies good for me, but
only bad?”
And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of
affliction and with water of
affliction, until I come in peace.
and tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’”
But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his
chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save
only with the king of Israel.
Now the king of
Aram had ordered his thirty-two
chariot commanders, “Do not fight with
anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.”
And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees:
only in Kir-haraseth left they the stones thereof;
howbeit the slingers went about it, and
smote it.
They destroyed the cities, and each man threw stones on every good field until it was covered. They stopped up every spring and cut down every good tree.
Only Kir-haraseth was left with stones in place, but men with
slings surrounded it and attacked it as well.
And she said unto her
mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his
leprosy.
She said to her
mistress, “If
only my master would go to the prophet who is in Samaria, he would cure him of his
leprosy.”
So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses
tied, and
asses tied, and the tents as they were.
So they went and called out to the gatekeepers of the city, saying, “We went to the
Aramean camp and no one was there—not a trace—
only tethered horses and
donkeys, and the tents were
intact.”
And
Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of
Baal, and said unto the worshippers of
Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the LORD, but the worshippers of
Baal only.
Next,
Jehu and Jehonadab son of Rechab entered the temple of
Baal, and
Jehu said to the servants of
Baal, “Look around to see that there are no servants of the LORD here among you—
only servants of
Baal.”
And the man of God was
wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have
smitten five or six times; then hadst thou
smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt
smite Syria but
thrice.
But the man of God was
angry with him and said, “You should have struck the ground five or six times. Then you would have struck down
Aram until you had put an end to it. But now you will strike down
Aram only three times.”
Therefore the LORD was very
angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah
only.
So the LORD was very
angry with Israel, and He removed them from His presence.
Only the tribe of Judah remained,
But
Rab-shakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own
piss with you.
But the
Rabshakeh replied, “Has my master sent me to speak these words
only to you and your master, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are destined with you to eat their own dung and drink their own
urine?”
And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.
They have cast their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods, but only wood and stone—the work of human hands.
Now therefore, O LORD our God, I
beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou
only.
And now, O LORD our God, please save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.”
Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.
I will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to
wander from the land that I gave to their fathers, if
only they are careful to do all I have commanded them—the whole Law that My servant Moses commanded them.”
And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valour, even ten thousand
captives, and all the
craftsmen and smiths: none remained, save the poorest sort of the people of the land.
He carried into exile all Jerusalem—all the commanders and mighty men of
valor, all the
craftsmen and metalsmiths—ten thousand
captives in all.
Only the poorest people of the land remained.
Now Sheshan had no sons, but daughters. And Sheshan had a servant, an Egyptian, whose name was Jarha.
Sheshan had no sons, but only daughters; but he did have an Egyptian servant named Jarha.
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest
bless me indeed, and
enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not
grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
And Jabez called out to the God of Israel, “If
only You would
bless me and
enlarge my territory! May Your hand be with me and keep me from
harm, so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted the request of Jabez.
And Machir took to wife the sister of Huppim and Shuppim, whose sister’s name was Maachah;) and the name of the second was Zelophehad: and Zelophehad had daughters.
Machir took a wife from among the Huppites and Shuppites. The name of his sister was
Maacah. Another
descendant was named Zelophehad, who had
only daughters.
Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God.
Above all, may the LORD give you insight and understanding when He puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the Law of the LORD your God.
And
Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters: and their brethren the sons of
Kish took them.
The sons of Mahli:
Eleazar and
Kish.
Eleazar died without having any sons; he had
only daughters. Their cousins, the sons of
Kish, married them.
But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?
But who is able to build a house for Him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain Him? Who then am I, that I should build a house for Him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before Him?
Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take
heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’
Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and
forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou
only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)
be heard by You from heaven, Your dwelling place. And may You
forgive and repay each man according to all his ways, since You know his heart—for You alone know the hearts of men—
And
Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.
In the thirty-ninth year of his reign,
Asa became diseased in his feet, and his
malady became increasingly severe. Yet even in his illness he did not seek the LORD, but
only the physicians.
And the king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whom we may
enquire of the LORD: but I
hate him; for he never
prophesied good unto me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And
Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
The king of Israel answered, “There is still one man who can ask the LORD, but I
hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me, but
only bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” “The king should not say that!”
Jehoshaphat replied.
And the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would not
prophesy good unto me, but evil?
Then the king of Israel said to
Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you that he never prophesies good for me, but
only bad?”
And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of
affliction and with water of
affliction, until I return in peace.
and tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’”
Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the
chariots that were with him, saying, Fight ye not with small or great, save
only with the king of Israel.
Now the king of
Aram had ordered his
chariot commanders, “Do not fight with
anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.”
And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
When the men of Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked for the vast army, but there were only corpses lying on the ground; no one had escaped.
For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had
forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against
Joash.
Although the
Aramean army had come with
only a few men, the LORD delivered into their hand a very great army. Because Judah had
forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers, judgment was executed on
Joash.
And they
withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast
trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
They took their stand against King Uzziah and said, “Uzziah, you have no right to offer incense to the LORD. Only the priests, the descendants of Aaron, are consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully; you will not receive honor from the LORD God.”
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
With him is
only the arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles.” So the people were strengthened by the words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.
Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will take
heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.
I will never again cause the feet of the Israelites to leave the land that I assigned to your fathers, if only they are careful to do all that I have commanded them through Moses—all the laws, statutes, and judgments.”
Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet unto the LORD their God only.
Nevertheless, the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the LORD their God.
Only Jonathan the son of
Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah were employed about this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the
Levite helped them.
(
Only Jonathan son of
Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah, supported by Meshullam and Shabbethai the
Levite, opposed this plan.)
