pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have
compassion upon thee; but thou
wast cast out in the
open field, to the
lothing of thy person, in the day that thou
wast born.
No one cared enough for you to do even one of these things out of
compassion for you. Instead, you were thrown out into the
open field, because you were
despised on the day of your birth.
Thou hast built thy high place at every head of the way, and hast made thy beauty to be
abhorred, and hast
opened thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredoms.
At the head of every street you built your lofty shrines and
degraded your beauty. With increasing
promiscuity, you spread your legs to all who passed by.
That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never
open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am
pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord GOD.
so that when I make
atonement for all you have done, you will remember and be
ashamed and never again
open your mouth because of your disgrace, declares the Lord GOD.”
And I
polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that
openeth the
womb, that I might make them
desolate, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD.
And I pronounced them unclean through their gifts—the sacrifice of every
firstborn in the fire—so that I might
devastate them, in order that they would know that I am the LORD.
At his right hand was the
divination for Jerusalem, to
appoint captains, to
open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with
shouting, to
appoint battering rams against the gates, to cast a mount, and to build a fort.
In his right hand appears the
portent for Jerusalem, where he is to set up
battering rams, to call for the slaughter, to lift a battle cry, to direct the
battering rams against the gates, to build a
ramp, and to erect a siege wall.
So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was
alienated from her, like as my mind was
alienated from her sister.
When Oholibah
openly prostituted herself and exposed her nakedness, I turned away from her in
disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister.
In that day shall thy mouth be
opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more
dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
On that day your mouth will be
opened to him who has escaped; you will speak and no longer be
mute. So you will be a sign to them, and they will know that I am the LORD.”
Therefore, behold, I will
open the side of Moab from the cities, from his cities which are on his frontiers, the glory of the country, Beth-jeshimoth,
Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim,
therefore I will indeed
expose the
flank of Moab beginning with its frontier cities—Beth-jeshimoth,
Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim—the glory of the land.
Son of man, because that Tyrus hath said against Jerusalem,
Aha, she is broken that was the gates of the people: she is turned unto me: I shall be
replenished, now she is laid waste:
“Son of man, because Tyre has said of Jerusalem, ‘
Aha! The gate to the nations is broken; it has
swung open to me; now that she lies in ruins I will be filled,’
And I will leave thee thrown into the wilderness, thee and all the fish of thy rivers: thou shalt fall upon the open fields; thou shalt not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given thee for meat to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven.
I will leave you in the desert, you and all the fish of your streams. You will fall on the open field and will not be taken away or gathered for burial. I have given you as food to the beasts of the earth and the birds of the air.
In that day will I cause the horn of the house of Israel to
bud forth, and I will give thee the
opening of the mouth in the midst of them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
In that day I will cause a horn to
sprout for the house of Israel, and I will
open your mouth to speak among them. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
And I will set fire in Egypt: Sin shall have great pain, and No shall be rent
asunder, and
Noph shall have distresses daily.
Then will I leave thee upon the land, I will cast thee forth upon the open field, and will cause all the fowls of the heaven to remain upon thee, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with thee.
I will
abandon you on the land and
hurl you into the
open field. I will cause all the birds of the air to settle upon you, and all the beasts of the earth to eat their fill of you.
Now the hand of the LORD was upon me in the evening,
afore he that was escaped came; and had
opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was
opened, and I was no more
dumb.
Now the evening before the
fugitive arrived, the hand of the LORD was upon me, and He
opened my mouth before the man came to me in the morning. So my mouth was
opened and I was no longer
mute.
Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the
open field will I give to the beasts to be
devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the
pestilence.
Tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘As surely as I live, those in the ruins will fall by the sword, those in the
open field I will give to be
devoured by wild animals, and those in the strongholds and caves will die by plague.
And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.
He led me all around among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, and indeed, they were very dry.
Therefore
prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will
open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.
Therefore
prophesy and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘O My people, I will
open your graves and bring you up from them, and I will bring you back to the land of Israel.
And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,
Then you, My people, will know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and bring you up from them.
Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.
The thickness of the wall, which was for the side chamber without, was five cubits: and that which was left was the place of the side chambers that were within.
The outer wall of the side rooms was five cubits thick, and the open area between the side rooms of the temple
And the doors of the side chambers were toward the place that was left, one door toward the north, and another door toward the south: and the breadth of the place that was left was five cubits round about.
The side rooms opened into this area, with one entrance on the north and another on the south. The open area was five cubits wide all around.
Then said the LORD unto me; This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the LORD, the God of Israel, hath entered in by it, therefore it shall be shut.
And the LORD said to me, “This gate is to remain shut. It shall not be opened, and no man shall enter through it, because the LORD, the God of Israel, has entered through it. Therefore it will remain shut.
Of this there shall be for the sanctuary five hundred in length, with five hundred in breadth, square round about; and fifty cubits round about for the suburbs thereof.
Within this area there is to be a section for the sanctuary 500 cubits square, with 50 cubits around it for open land.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath it shall be opened, and in the day of the new moon it shall be opened.
“This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘The gate of the inner court that faces east must be kept shut during the six days of work, but on the Sabbath day and on the day of the New Moon it shall be opened.
Now when the prince shall prepare a voluntary burnt offering or peace offerings
voluntarily unto the LORD, one shall then
open him the gate that looketh toward the east, and he shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, as he did on the sabbath day: then he shall go forth; and after his going forth one shall shut the gate.
When the prince makes a
freewill offering to the LORD, whether a burnt offering or a peace offering, the gate facing east must be
opened for him. He is to offer his burnt offering or peace offering just as he does on the Sabbath day. Then he shall go out, and the gate must be closed after he goes out.
Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being
open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he
kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave
thanks before his God, as he did
aforetime.
Now when Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house, where the windows of his upper room
opened toward Jerusalem, and three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave
thanks to his God, just as he had done before.
A
fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were
opened.
A river of fire was flowing, coming out from His presence. Thousands upon thousands attended Him, and myriads upon myriads stood before Him. The court was
convened, and the books were
opened.
O my God,
incline thine ear, and hear;
open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great
mercies.
Incline Your ear, O my God, and hear;
open Your eyes and see the
desolation of the city that bears Your name. For we are not presenting our petitions before You because of our righteous acts, but because of Your great
compassion.
And, behold, one like the
similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I
opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength.
And suddenly one with the likeness of a man touched my lips, and I
opened my mouth and said to the one standing before me, “My lord, because of the vision, I am overcome with
anguish, and I have no strength.
For Israel slideth back as a
backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.
Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early
dew that passeth away, as the
chaff that is driven with the
whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the
chimney.
Therefore they will be like the morning
mist, like the early
dew that vanishes, like
chaff blown from a
threshing floor, like smoke through an
open window.
I will meet them as a bear that is
bereaved of her whelps, and will
rend the
caul of their heart, and there will I
devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall
tear them.
Like a bear
robbed of her cubs I will attack them, and I will
tear open their chests. There I will
devour them like a lion, like a wild beast would
tear them apart.
The sorrows of a
travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.
Labor pains come upon him, but he is an unwise son. When the time arrives, he fails to present himself at the
opening of the
womb.
Samaria shall become
desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be
dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be
ripped up.
Samaria will bear her guilt because she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be
dashed to pieces, and their
pregnant women
ripped open.
O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath
devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.
To You, O LORD, I call, for fire has consumed the
open pastures and flames have
scorched all the trees of the field.
The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath
devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
Even the beasts of the field
pant for You, for the streams of water have dried up, and fire has consumed the
open pastures.
Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.
Do not be afraid, O beasts of the field, for the open pastures have turned green, the trees bear their fruit, and the fig tree and vine yield their best.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children of
Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have
ripped up the women with child of
Gilead, that they might
enlarge their border:
Therefore I will make Samaria as an
heap of the field, and as plantings of a
vineyard: and I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, and I will discover the foundations thereof.
Therefore I will make Samaria a
heap of
rubble in the
open field, a planting area for a
vineyard. I will pour her stones into the valley and
expose her foundations.
The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.
One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate, and go out by it. Their King will pass through before them, the LORD as their leader.
Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of
Zion, like a woman in
travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go even to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall
redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.
Writhe in
agony, O Daughter of
Zion, like a woman in labor. For now you will leave the city and camp in the
open fields. You will go to Babylon; there you will be
rescued; there the LORD will
redeem you from the hand of your enemies!
The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.
The river gates are thrown open and the palace collapses.
Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide
open unto thine enemies: the fire shall
devour thy bars.
Look at your troops— they are like your women! The gates of your land are wide open to your enemies; fire consumes their bars.
And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the
ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof.
“This is Wickedness,” he said. And he
shoved her down into the
basket,
pushing down the lead cover over its
opening.
In that day, saith the LORD, I will
smite every horse with
astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will
open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will
smite every horse of the people with blindness.
On that day, declares the LORD, I will strike every horse with
panic, and every rider with madness. I will keep a watchful eye on the house of Judah, but I will strike with blindness all the horses of the nations.
In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.
“On that day a fountain will be
opened to the house of David and the people of Jerusalem, to
cleanse them from sin and impurity.
Bring ye all the
tithes into the
storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now
herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not
open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Bring the full
tithe into the
storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD of Hosts. “See if I will not
open the windows of heaven and pour out for you blessing without measure.
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had
opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and
frankincense, and
myrrh.
On coming to the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then they
opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold and
frankincense and
myrrh.
And Jesus, when he was
baptized, went up
straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were
opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a
dove, and lighting upon him:
As soon as Jesus was
baptized, He went up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens were
opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a
dove and resting on Him.
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
and He began to teach them, saying:
That thine
alms may be in secret: and thy Father which
seeth in secret himself shall reward thee
openly.
so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy
closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which
seeth in secret shall reward thee
openly.
But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which
seeth in secret, shall reward thee
openly.
so that your fasting will not be obvious to men, but only to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find;
knock, and it shall be
opened unto you:
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find;
knock, and the door will be
opened to you.
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
For
everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be
opened.
And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.
And their eyes were
opened. Jesus
warned them sternly, “See that no one finds out about this!”
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: “I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world.”
Notwithstanding, lest we should
offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast
opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
“But so that we may not
offend them, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take the first fish you catch. When you
open its mouth, you will find a four-
drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for My tax and yours.”
They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
“Lord,” they answered, “let our eyes be opened.”
Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
Later the other virgins arrived and said, ‘Lord, lord, open the door for us!’
And the graves were
opened; and many bodies of the saints which
slept arose,
The tombs broke
open, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen
asleep were raised.
And
straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens
opened, and the Spirit like a
dove descending upon him:
As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, He saw the heavens breaking
open and the Spirit descending on Him like a
dove.
But he went out, and began to
publish it much, and to
blaze abroad the matter,
insomuch that Jesus could no more
openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
But the man went out and
openly began to
proclaim and spread the news. Consequently, Jesus could no longer enter a town in plain view, but He stayed out in solitary places. Yet people came to Him from every quarter.
And when they could not come
nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the
palsy lay.
Since they were unable to get to Jesus through the crowd, they uncovered the roof above Him, made an
opening, and lowered the
paralytic on his mat.
And looking up to heaven, he
sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be
opened.
And looking up to heaven, He
sighed deeply and said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means, “Be
opened!”).
And
straightway his ears were
opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
Immediately the man’s ears were opened and his tongue was released, and he began to speak plainly.
After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
Once again Jesus placed His hands on the man’s eyes, and when he opened them his sight was restored, and he could see everything clearly.
And he spake that saying
openly. And Peter took him, and began to
rebuke him.
He spoke this message quite
frankly, and Peter took Him aside and began to
rebuke Him.
And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.
Immediately
Zechariah’s mouth was
opened and his tongue was released, and he began to speak, praising God.
(As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that
openeth the
womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)
(as it is written in the Law of the Lord: “Every
firstborn male shall be consecrated to the Lord”),
Now when all the people were
baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being
baptized, and praying, the heaven was
opened,
When all the people were being
baptized, Jesus was
baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven was
opened,
And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
the
scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it was written:
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find;
knock, and it shall be
opened unto you.
So I tell you: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find;
knock, and the door will be
opened to you.
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
For
everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be
opened.
And ye
yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the
wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may
open unto him immediately.
Then you will be like servants waiting for their master to return from the
wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks, they can
open the door for him at once.
When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to
knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord,
open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
After the master of the house gets up and shuts the door, you will stand outside
knocking and saying, ‘Lord,
open the door for us.’ But he will reply, ‘I do not know where you are from.’
And their eyes were
opened, and they knew him; and he
vanished out of their sight.
Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus—and He disappeared from their sight.
And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us as He spoke with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
He did not refuse to
confess, but
openly declared, “I am not the Christ.”
And he saith unto him,
Verily,
verily, I say unto you,
Hereafter ye shall see heaven
open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
Then He declared, “Truly, truly, I tell you, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known
openly. If thou do these things,
shew thyself to the world.
For no one who wants to be known publicly acts in secret. Since You are doing these things, show
Yourself to the world.”
But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
But after His brothers had gone up to the feast, He also went—not publicly, but in secret.
Howbeit no man spake
openly of him for fear of the Jews.
Yet no one would speak publicly about Him for fear of the Jews.
Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
“How then were your eyes opened?” they asked.
And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened his eyes was a Sabbath.
They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
So once again they asked the man who had been blind, “What do you say about Him, since it was your eyes He opened?” “He is a prophet,” the man replied.
But by what means he now
seeth, we know not; or who hath
opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
But how he can now see or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him. He is old enough to speak for himself.”
Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
“What did He do to you?” they asked. “How did He open your eyes?”
The man answered and said unto them, Why
herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath
opened mine eyes.
“That is remarkable indeed!” the man said. “You do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes.
Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
Never before has
anyone heard of
opening the eyes of a man born blind.
To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
The gatekeeper
opens the gate for him, and the sheep
listen for his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?
But others replied, “These are not the words of a man possessed by a
demon. Can a
demon open the eyes of the blind?”
And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
But some of them asked, “Could not this man who
opened the eyes of the blind also have kept
Lazarus from dying?”
Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
As a result, Jesus no longer went about publicly among the Jews, but He withdrew to a town called Ephraim in an area near the wilderness. And He stayed there with the disciples.
Jesus answered him, I spake
openly to the world; I ever taught in the
synagogue, and in the temple,
whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
“I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus answered. “I always taught in the synagogues and at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.
(Now with the reward for his wickedness
Judas bought a field; there he fell
headlong and
burst open in the middle, and all his intestines
spilled out.
But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
But during the night an angel of the Lord
opened the doors of the
jail and brought them out, saying,
