To
receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and
equity;
and for receiving instruction in wise living and in righteousness, justice, and
equity.
My son, if thou
wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
My son, if you accept my words and hide my commandments within you,
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
Listen, my son, and
receive my words, and the years of your life will be many.
Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
Receive my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold.
The wise in heart will
receive commandments: but a
prating fool shall fall.
A wise heart will
receive commandments, but
foolish lips will come to ruin.
Behold, the righteous shall be
recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the
sinner.
If the righteous
receive their due on earth, how much more the ungodly and the
sinner!
The
backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
The
backslider in heart
receives the fill of his own ways, but a good man is rewarded for his ways.
Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days.
When the
scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is
instructed, he
receiveth knowledge.
When a
mocker is punished, the simple gain wisdom; and when a wise man is
instructed, he acquires knowledge.
Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too shall cry out and
receive no answer.
Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.
I observed and took it to heart; I looked and received instruction:
He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a
curse.
Whoever gives to the poor will not be in need, but he who hides his eyes will
receive many curses.
The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
By justice a king brings stability to the land, but a man who exacts tribute demolishes it.
Many seek the ruler’s favour; but every man’s judgment cometh from the LORD.
Many seek the ruler’s favor, but a man receives justice from the LORD.
If a man
beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he.
A man may father a hundred children and live for many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he is unsatisfied with his prosperity and does not even
receive a proper burial, I say that a
stillborn child is better off than he.
The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.
This is the burden against Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz received:
In the year that king
Ahaz died was this burden.
In the year that King
Ahaz died, this burden was
received:
Thine heart shall
meditate terror. Where is the
scribe? where is the
receiver? where is he that counted the towers?
Your mind will
ponder the former terror: “Where is he who
tallies? Where is he who weighs? Where is he who counts the towers?”
And
Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and
Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.
So
Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers, read it, and went up to the house of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD.
Speak ye
comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is
pardoned: for she hath
received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.
“Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and
proclaim to her that her forced labor has been completed; her iniquity has been
pardoned. For she has
received from the hand of the LORD double for all her sins.”
Behold, all ye that
kindle a fire, that compass
yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have
kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.
Behold, all you who
kindle a fire, who
array yourselves with firebrands, walk in the light of your fire and of the firebrands you have
lit! This is what you will
receive from My hand: You will lie down in a place of
torment.
Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these?
Your portion is among the smooth stones of the valley; indeed, they are your lot. Even to them you have poured out a drink offering and offered a grain offering. Should I relent because of these?
In vain have I
smitten your children; they
received no correction: your own sword hath
devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
“I have struck your sons in vain; they accepted no discipline. Your own sword has
devoured your prophets like a
voracious lion.”
O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast
stricken them, but they have not
grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to
receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
O LORD, do not Your eyes look for truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain. You finished them off, but they refused to accept discipline. They have made their faces harder than stone and refused to
repent.
But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
Therefore you must say to them, ‘This is the nation that would not
listen to the voice of the LORD their God and would not
receive correction. Truth has perished; it has disappeared from their lips.
Yet hear the word of the LORD, O ye women, and let your ear
receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters
wailing, and every one her neighbour
lamentation.
Now, O women, hear the word of the LORD. Open your ears to the word of His mouth. Teach your daughters to
wail, and one another to
lament.
But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction.
And they have turned unto me the back, and not the face: though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not
hearkened to
receive instruction.
They have turned their backs to Me and not their faces. Though I taught them again and again, they would not
listen or
respond to discipline.
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not
receive instruction to
hearken to my words? saith the LORD.
“This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Go and tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem: ‘Will you not accept discipline and obey My words?’ declares the LORD.
Then
Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
Later, King
Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah and
received him in his palace, where he asked him privately, “Is there a word from the LORD?” “There is,” Jeremiah replied. “You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.”
Then
Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of the LORD: and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from me.
Then King
Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah the prophet and
received him at the third entrance to the house of the LORD. “I am going to ask you something,” said the king to Jeremiah. “Do not hide anything from me.”
Jerusalem remembered in the days of her
affliction and of her
miseries all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the
adversaries saw her, and did
mock at her sabbaths.
In the days of her
affliction and wandering Jerusalem remembers all the treasures that were hers in days of old. When her people fell into enemy hands she
received no help. Her enemies looked upon her,
laughing at her
downfall.
Princes are
hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.
Princes have been hung up by their hands; elders receive no respect.

“Son of man,” He added, “
listen carefully to all the words I speak to you, and take them to heart.
And one
cherub stretched forth his hand from between the cherubims unto the fire that was between the cherubims, and took thereof, and put it into the hands of him that was clothed with linen: who took it, and went out.
Then one of the
cherubim reached out his hand and took some of the fire that was among them. And he put it into the hands of the man clothed in linen, who
received it and went out.
But as a wife that committeth
adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband!
You
adulterous wife! You
receive strangers instead of your own husband!
Then thou shalt remember thy ways, and be
ashamed, when thou shalt
receive thy sisters, thine elder and thy younger: and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant.
Then you will remember your ways and be
ashamed when you
receive your older and younger sisters. I will give them to you as daughters, but not because of My covenant with you.
That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not
received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.
He withholds his hand from
harming the poor and takes no interest or
usury. He keeps My ordinances and follows My statutes. Such a man will not die for his father’s iniquity. He will surely live.
Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyrus: every head was made
bald, and every shoulder was
peeled: yet had he no wages, nor his army, for Tyrus, for the service that he had served against it:
“Son of man,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon caused his army to labor
strenuously against Tyre. Every head was made
bald and every shoulder made raw. But he and his army
received no wages from Tyre for the labor they expended on it.
And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen.
I will also make the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field
plentiful, so that you will no longer bear reproach among the nations on account of famine.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; This shall be the border, whereby ye shall
inherit the land according to the twelve tribes of Israel: Joseph shall have two portions.
This is what the Lord GOD says: “These are the boundaries by which you are to divide the land as an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel; Joseph shall receive two portions.
But if ye
shew the dream, and the interpretation thereof, ye shall
receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore
shew me the dream, and the interpretation thereof.
But if you tell me the dream and its interpretation, you will receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor. So tell me the dream and its interpretation.”
And
Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about
threescore and two years old.
and
Darius the
Mede received the kingdom at the age of sixty-two.
But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.
But the saints of the Most High will
receive the kingdom and possess it
forever—
yes,
forever and ever.’
It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall
receive shame, and Israel shall be
ashamed of his own counsel.
Yes, it will be carried to Assyria as tribute to the great king. Ephraim will be seized with shame; Israel will be
ashamed of its wooden idols.
Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and
receive us
graciously: so will we render the
calves of our lips.
Bring your confessions and return to the LORD. Say to Him: “Take away all our iniquity and
receive us
graciously, that we may present the fruit of our lips.
And also I have
withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece
whereupon it rained not
withered.
“I also
withheld the rain from you when the harvest was three months away. I sent rain on one city but
withheld it from another. One field
received rain; another without rain
withered.
Pass ye away, thou inhabitant of Saphir, having thy shame naked: the inhabitant of Zaanan came not forth in the
mourning of Beth-ezel; he shall
receive of you his standing.
Depart in shameful nakedness, O dwellers of Shaphir. The dwellers of Zaanan will not come out. Beth-ezel is in
mourning; its support is taken from you.
The burden which
Habakkuk the prophet did see.
This is the burden that
Habakkuk the prophet
received in a vision:
She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she drew not near to her God.
She
heeded no voice; she accepted no correction. She does not trust in the LORD; she has not drawn near to her God.
I said, Surely thou
wilt fear me, thou
wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off,
howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.
I said, ‘Surely you will fear Me and accept correction.’ Then her dwelling place would not be cut off
despite all for which I punished her. But they rose early to corrupt all their deeds.
For before these days there was no
hire for man, nor any
hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in because of the
affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbour.
For before those days neither man nor beast
received wages, nor was there safety from the enemy for
anyone who came or went, for I had turned every man against his
neighbor.
And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.
If someone asks him, ‘What are these wounds on your chest?’ he will answer, ‘These are the wounds I received in the house of my friends.’
And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with
weeping, and with crying out,
insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or
receiveth it with good will at your hand.
And this is another thing you do: You cover the altar of the LORD with tears, with
weeping and
groaning, because He no longer regards your offerings or
receives them
gladly from your hands.
Bring ye all the
tithes into the
storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now
herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to
receive it.
Bring the full
tithe into the
storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this,” says the LORD of Hosts. “See if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out for you blessing without measure.
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
For
everyone who asks
receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Heal the sick,
cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have
received, freely give.
Heal the sick, raise the dead,
cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have
received; freely give.
And
whosoever shall not
receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city,
shake off the dust of your feet.
And if
anyone will not
welcome you or
heed your words,
shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town.
He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives the One who sent Me.
He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will
receive a prophet’s reward, and
whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will
receive a righteous man’s reward.
The blind
receive their sight, and the
lame walk, the lepers are
cleansed, and the
deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
The blind
receive sight, the
lame walk, the lepers are
cleansed, the
deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.
And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
And if you are willing to accept it, he is the
Elijah who was to come.
When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
When
anyone hears the message of the kingdom but does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path.
But he that
received the seed into
stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and
anon with joy
receiveth it;
The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.
He also that
received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the
deceitfulness of riches,
choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
The seed sown among the thorns is the one who hears the word, but the
worries of this life and the
deceitfulness of wealth
choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
But he that
received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an
hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
But the seed sown on good soil is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and produces a crop—a
hundredfold, sixtyfold, or thirtyfold.”
But ye say,
Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by
whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
But you say that if
anyone says to his father or mother, ‘Whatever you would have
received from me is a gift devoted to God,’
And when they were come to
Capernaum, they that
received tribute money came to Peter, and said,
Doth not your master pay tribute?
After they had arrived in
Capernaum, the collectors of the two-
drachma tax came to Peter and asked, “Does your Teacher pay the two
drachmas?”
And
whoso shall
receive one such little child in my name
receiveth me.
And
whoever welcomes a little child like this in My name welcomes Me.
But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.
“Not
everyone can accept this word,” He replied, “but only those to whom it has been given.
For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s
womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to
receive it, let him
receive it.
For there are eunuchs who were born that way; others were made that way by men; and still others live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”
And every one that hath
forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall
receive an
hundredfold, and shall
inherit everlasting life.
And
everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for the sake of My name will
receive a
hundredfold and will
inherit eternal life.
They say unto him, Because no man hath
hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the
vineyard; and
whatsoever is right, that shall ye
receive.
‘Because no one has
hired us,’ they answered. So he told them, ‘You also go into my
vineyard.’
And when they came that were
hired about the
eleventh hour, they
received every man a
penny.
But when the first came, they supposed that they should have
received more; and they likewise
received every man a
penny.
So when the original workers came, they assumed they would
receive more. But each of them also
received a
denarius.
And when they had
received it, they
murmured against the
goodman of the house,
So Jesus had
compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes
received sight, and they followed him.
Moved with
compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and at once they
received their sight and followed Him.
And all things,
whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall
receive.
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the
husbandmen, that they might
receive the fruits of it.
When the harvest time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his share of the fruit.
Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
The servant who had received the five talents went at once and put them to work and gained five more.
And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
Likewise, the one with the two talents gained two more.
But he that had
received one went and
digged in the earth, and
hid his lord’s money.
But the servant who had
received the one talent went off,
dug a hole in the ground, and
hid his master’s money.
And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
The servant who had received the five talents came and presented five more. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’
He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
The servant who had received the two talents also came and said, ‘Master, you entrusted me with two talents. See, I have gained two more.’
Then he which had
received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man,
reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
Finally, the servant who had
received the one talent came and said, ‘Master, I knew that you are a hard man,
reaping where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.
Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have
received mine own with
usury.
Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received it back with interest.
And
straightway many were gathered together,
insomuch that there was no room to
receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.
they gathered in such large numbers that there was no more room, not even outside the door, as Jesus spoke the word to them.
And these are they likewise which are sown on
stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately
receive it with
gladness;
Some are like the seeds sown on rocky ground. They hear the word and at once receive it with joy.
And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.
Still others are like the seeds sown on good soil. They hear the word,
receive it, and produce a crop—thirtyfold, sixtyfold, or a
hundredfold.”
And
whosoever shall not
receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence,
shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them.
Verily I say unto you, It shall be more
tolerable for
Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
If
anyone will not
welcome you or
listen to you,
shake the dust off your feet when you leave that place, as a testimony against them.”
And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have
received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots,
brasen vessels, and of tables.
And on returning from the market, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other traditions for them to observe, including the washing of cups, pitchers, kettles, and couches for
dining.
But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is
Corban, that is to say, a gift, by
whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, ‘Whatever you would have
received from me is
Corban’ (that is, a gift devoted to God),
Whosoever shall
receive one of such children in my name,
receiveth me: and
whosoever shall
receive me,
receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
“
Whoever welcomes one of these little children in My name welcomes Me, and
whoever welcomes Me welcomes not only Me, but the One who sent Me.”
Verily I say unto you,
Whosoever shall not
receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
Truly I tell you,
anyone who does not
receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
But he shall
receive an
hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
will fail to
receive a
hundredfold in the present age—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, along with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, What
wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might
receive my sight.
“What do you want Me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “Rabboni,” said the blind man, “let me see again.”
And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has
healed you.” And immediately he
received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
Therefore I say unto you, What things
soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye
receive them, and ye shall havethem.
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
