And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.
And surely I will
require the life of any man or beast by whose hand your
lifeblood is shed. I will demand an accounting from
anyone who takes the life of his fellow man:
That which was
torn of beasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand
didst thou
require it, whether
stolen by day, or
stolen by night.
I did not bring you anything
torn by wild beasts; I bore the loss myself. And you demanded payment from me for what was
stolen by day or night.
And
Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is
required.
And
Reuben responded, “Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you would not
listen. Now we must account for his blood!”
I will be
surety for him; of my hand shalt thou
require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the
blame for ever:
I will
guarantee his safety. You may hold me personally responsible. If I do not bring him back and set him before you, then may I bear the guilt before you all my life.
And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are
embalmed: and the Egyptians
mourned for him
threescore and ten days.
taking the forty days
required to complete the
embalming. And the Egyptians
mourned for him seventy days.
And the tale of the bricks, which they did make
heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.
But
require of them the same
quota of bricks as before; do not reduce it. For they are
lazy; that is why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’
And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they
required. And they
spoiled the Egyptians.
And the LORD gave the people such favor in the sight of the Egyptians that they granted their request. In this way they
plundered the Egyptians.
And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
But if a serious injury results, then you must require a life for a life—
Then shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbour’s goods; and the owner of it shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good.
an oath before the LORD shall be made between the parties to determine whether or not the man has taken his
neighbor’s property. The owner must accept the oath and
require no
restitution.
But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be an
hired thing, it came for his
hire.
If the owner was present, no
restitution is
required. If the animal was rented, the fee covers the loss.
And if a man shall
sanctify unto the LORD some part of a field of his possession, then thy
estimation shall be according to the seed thereof: an homer of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver.
If a man consecrates to the LORD a
parcel of his land, then your
valuation shall be proportional to the seed
required for it—fifty shekels of silver for every homer of barley seed.
Two wagons and four oxen he gave unto the sons of Gershon, according to their service:
He gave the Gershonites two carts and four oxen, as their service required,
And four wagons and eight oxen he gave unto the sons of Merari, according unto their service, under the hand of
Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.
and he gave the Merarites four carts and eight oxen, as their service
required, all under the direction of
Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.
And now, Israel, what
doth the LORD thy God
require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,
And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
And it shall come to pass, that
whosoever will not
hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will
require it of him.
And I will hold accountable
anyone who does not
listen to My words that the prophet speaks in My name.
When thou shalt
vow a
vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not
slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely
require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.
If you make a
vow to the LORD your God, do not be slow to keep it, because He will surely
require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin.
That we have built us an altar to turn from following the LORD, or if to offer
thereon burnt offering or meat offering, or if to offer peace offerings
thereon, let the LORD himself
require it;
If we have built for ourselves an altar to turn away from Him and to offer burnt offerings and grain offerings on it, or to sacrifice
fellowship offerings on it, may the LORD Himself hold us accountable.
And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou
requirest: for all the city of my people
doth know that thou art a
virtuous woman.
And now do not be afraid, my daughter. I will do for you whatever you request, since all my fellow townspeople know that you are a woman of noble character.
So
Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the LORD even
require it at the hand of David’s enemies.
So
Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, “May the LORD hold David’s enemies accountable.”
And David said unto
Ahimelech, And is there not here under thine hand
spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business
required haste.
Then David asked
Ahimelech, “Is there not a
spear or sword on hand here? For I have brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business was
urgent.”
And he said, Well; I will make a league with thee: but one thing I require of thee, that is, Thou shalt not see my face, except thou first bring Michal Saul’s daughter, when thou comest to see my face.
“Good,” replied David, “I will make a covenant with you. But there is one thing I require of you: Do not appear before me unless you bring Saul’s daughter Michal when you come to see me.”
How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?
How much more, when wicked men kill a righteous man in his own house and on his own bed, shall I not now require his blood from your hands and remove you from the earth!”
Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and
anointed himself, and changed his
apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he
required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.
Then David got up from the ground, washed and
anointed himself, changed his clothes, and went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and at his request they set food before him, and he
ate.
And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and
whatsoever thou shalt
require of me, that will I do for thee.
The king replied, “Chimham will cross over with me, and I will do for him what seems good in your sight, and I will do for you whatever you desire of me.”
Barley also and straw for the horses and
dromedaries brought they unto the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge.
Each one also brought to the
required place their quotas of barley and straw for the
chariot horses and other horses.
If any man
trespass against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to
swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house:
When a man sins against his
neighbor and is
required to take an oath, and he comes to take an oath before Your altar in this temple,
And let these my words,
wherewith I have made
supplication before the LORD, be
nigh unto the LORD our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall
require:
And may these words with which I have made my petition before the LORD be near to the LORD our God day and night, so that He may
uphold the cause of His servant and of His people Israel as each day
requires,
Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.
No accounting was
required from the men who received the money to pay the workmen, because they acted with
integrity.
Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they
slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.
So they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, “The peoples that you have removed and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the requirements of the God of the land. Because of this, He has sent lions among them, which are indeed killing them off.”
Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.
Then the king of Assyria commanded: “Send back one of the priests you carried off from Samaria, and have him go back to live there and teach the requirements of the God of the land.”
So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD
Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work
required:
So David left
Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to minister there regularly according to the daily
requirements,
And
Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then
doth my lord
require this thing? why will he be a cause of
trespass to Israel?
But
Joab replied, “May the LORD multiply His troops a hundred times over. My lord the king, are they not all servants of my lord? Why does my lord want to do this? Why should he bring guilt on Israel?”
If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him
swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;
When a man sins against his
neighbor and is
required to take an oath, and he comes to take an oath before Your altar in this temple,
Even after a certain rate every day, offering according to the commandment of Moses, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts, three times in the year, even in the feast of
unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles.
He observed the daily
requirement for offerings according to the commandment of Moses for Sabbaths, New Moons, and the three annual appointed feasts—the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks, and the Feast of Tabernacles.
And he appointed, according to the order of David his father, the courses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day
required: the
porters also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the man of God commanded.
In keeping with the ordinances of his father David, Solomon appointed the divisions of the priests over their service, and the Levites for their duties to offer praise and to minister before the priests according to the daily requirement. He also appointed gatekeepers by their divisions at each gate, for this had been the command of David, the man of God.
And they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the
shewbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the
candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but ye have
forsaken him.
Every morning and every evening they present burnt offerings and
fragrant incense to the LORD. They set out the rows of
showbread on the
ceremonially clean table, and every evening they light the lamps of the gold lampstand. We are carrying out the
requirements of the LORD our God, while you have
forsaken Him.
But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they are holy: but all the people shall keep the watch of the LORD.
No one is to enter the house of the LORD except the priests and those Levites who serve; they may enter because they are consecrated, but all the people are to obey the requirement of the LORD.
And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?
So the king called Jehoiada the high priest and said, “Why have you not required the Levites to bring from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by Moses the servant of the LORD and by the assembly of Israel for the Tent of the Testimony?”
Thus
Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but
slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and
require it.
Thus King
Joash failed to remember the kindness that
Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had extended to him. Instead,
Joash killed Jehoiada’s son. As he lay dying,
Zechariah said, “May the LORD see this and call you to account.”
And
Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that
pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And
Josiah removed all the abominations from all the lands belonging to the Israelites, and he
required everyone in Israel to serve the LORD their God. Throughout his reign they did not turn aside from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.
They kept also the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the custom, as the duty of every day required;
They also celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles in accordance with what is written, and they offered burnt offerings daily based on the number prescribed for each day.
And I, even I
Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that
whatsoever Ezra the priest, the
scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall
require of you, it be done speedily,
I, King
Artaxerxes, decree to all the treasurers west of the Euphrates: Whatever
Ezra the priest, the
scribe of the Law of the God of heaven, may
require of you, it must be provided
promptly,
For I was
ashamed to
require of the king a band of soldiers and
horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that
forsake him.
For I was
ashamed to ask the king for an
escort of soldiers and
horsemen to protect us from our enemies on the road, since we had told him, “The hand of our God is
gracious to all who seek Him, but His great anger is against all who
forsake Him.”
Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise.
“We will restore it,” they replied, “and will require nothing more from them. We will do as you say.” So I summoned the priests and required of the nobles and officials an oath that they would do what they had promised.
Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this
required not I the bread of the governor, because the
bondage was heavy upon this people.
Each day one ox, six choice sheep, and some fowl were prepared for me, and once every ten days an abundance of all kinds of wine was provided. But I did not demand the food
allotted to the governor, because the burden on the people was so heavy.
Now when every
maid’s turn was come to go in to king
Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of
myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the
purifying of the women;)
In the twelve months before her turn to go to King
Xerxes, the
harem regulation
required each young woman to receive beauty treatments with oil of
myrrh for six months, and then with perfumes and cosmetics for another six months.
Now when the turn of
Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of
Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she
required nothing but what Hegai the king’s
chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And
Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.
Now
Esther was the daughter of Abihail, the uncle from whom
Mordecai had adopted her as his own daughter. And when it was her turn to go to the king, she did not ask for anything except what Hegai, the king’s trusted official in charge of the
harem, had
advised. And
Esther found favor in the eyes of
everyone who saw her.
Wherefore
doth the wicked
contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou
wilt not
require it.
Why has the wicked man
renounced God? He says to himself, “You will never call me to account.”
Sacrifice and offering thou
didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not
required.
Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but my ears You have opened. Burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not require.
For there they that carried us away
captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us
required of us
mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of
Zion.
for there our captors requested a song; our tormentors demanded songs of joy: “Sing us a song of
Zion.”
Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:
Two things I ask of You— do not refuse me before I die:
That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
What exists has already been, and what will be has already been, for God will call to account what has passed.
When ye come to appear before me, who hath
required this at your hand, to
tread my courts?
When you come to appear before Me, who has
required this of you— this
trampling of My courts?
Yea, the
stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the
turtle and the
crane and the
swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD.
Even the
stork in the sky knows her appointed seasons. The
turtledove, the swift, and the
thrush keep their time of
migration, but My people do not know the
requirements of the LORD.
When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not
warning, nor speakest to
warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I
require at thine hand.
If I say to the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not
warn him or speak out to
warn him from his wicked way to save his life, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, and I will hold you responsible for his blood.
Again, When a righteous man
doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him
warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I
require at thine hand.
Now if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I put a
stumbling block before him, he will die. If you did not
warn him, he will die in his sin, and the righteous acts he did will not be remembered. And I will hold you responsible for his blood.
For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, serve me: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.
For on My holy mountain, the high mountain of Israel, declares the Lord GOD, there the whole house of Israel, all of them, will serve Me in the land. There I will accept them and will require your offerings and choice gifts, along with all your holy sacrifices.
But if the
watchman see the sword come, and blow not the
trumpet, and the people be not
warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I
require at the
watchman’s hand.
But if the
watchman sees the sword coming and fails to blow the horn to
warn the people, and the sword comes and takes away a life, then that one will be taken away in his iniquity, but I will hold the
watchman accountable for his blood.’
When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou
dost not speak to
warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I
require at thine hand.
If I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ but you do not speak out to
dissuade him from his way, then that wicked man will die in his iniquity, yet I will hold you accountable for his blood.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the
shepherds; and I will
require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; neither shall the
shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I am against the
shepherds, and I will demand from them My flock and remove them from tending the flock, so that they can no longer feed themselves. For I will deliver My flock from their mouths, and it will no longer be food for them.’
And it is a rare thing that the king
requireth, and there is none other that can
shew it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.
What the king requests is so difficult that no one can tell it to him except the gods, whose dwelling is not with mortals.”
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what
doth the LORD
require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk
humbly with thy God?
He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD
require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk
humbly with your God?
Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his
ordinance, and that we have walked
mournfully before the LORD of hosts?
You have said, ‘It is
futile to serve God. What have we gained by keeping His
requirements and walking
mournfully before the LORD of Hosts?
And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into
Galilee, to their own city
Nazareth.
When Jesus’ parents had done everything
required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to
Galilee, to their own town of
Nazareth.
That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;
As a result, this generation will be charged with the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the foundation of the world,
From the blood of
Abel unto the blood of
Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple:
verily I say unto you, It shall be
required of this generation.
from the blood of
Abel to the blood of
Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary.
Yes, I tell you, all of it will be charged to this generation.
But God said unto him, Thou
fool, this night thy soul shall be
required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
But God said to him, ‘You
fool! This very night your life will be
required of you. Then who will own what you have accumulated?’
But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto
whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much
required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
But the one who unknowingly does things worthy of punishment will be beaten with few blows. From
everyone who has been given much, much will be
required; and from him who has been entrusted with much, even more will be demanded.
Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have
required mine own with
usury?
Why then did you not deposit my money in the bank, and upon my return I could have collected it with interest?’
And
Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they
required.
So
Pilate sentenced that their demand be met.
But there rose up certain of the sect of the
Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to
circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
But some believers from the party of the
Pharisees stood up and declared, “The Gentiles must be
circumcised and
required to obey the law of Moses.”
For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond these essential requirements:
For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law.
For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
Jews demand signs and Greeks search for wisdom,
Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
Now it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.
But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
However, if someone thinks he is acting inappropriately toward his
betrothed, and if she is beyond her youth and they ought to marry, let him do as he wishes; he is not
sinning; they should get married.
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to
abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with
thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
They will
prohibit marriage and
require abstinence from certain foods that God has created to be received with
thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
And the second beast
required all people small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their
forehead,
And now, O lord the king, this is that which I
require, and which I desire of thee, and this is the princely
liberality proceeding from
thyself: I desire therefore that thou make good the
vow, the performance
whereof with thine own mouth thou hast
vowed to the King of heaven.
Therefore to the intent that we might give knowledge unto thee by writing, we demanded of them who were the chief doers, and we required of them the names in writing of their principal men.
I command you also, that ye
require no tax, nor any other imposition, of any of the priests, or Levites, or holy singers, or
porters, or ministers of the temple, or of any that have doings in this temple, and that no man have authority to
impose any thing upon them.
I sent unto you my servants the prophets, whom ye have taken and slain, and
torn their bodies in pieces, whose blood I will
require of your hands, saith the Lord.
As for the servants whom I have given thee, there shall not one of them perish; for I will require them from among thy number.
The interpretation of the vision shall I
shew thee, and I will open unto thee the thing that thou hast
required.
God be judge between us and you: for ye have done us great injury, in that ye have not required peace of the children of Assur.
For if we be taken so, all
Judea shall lie waste, and our sanctuary shall be
spoiled; and he will
require the
profanation thereof at our mouth.
Miss not the discourse of the elders: for they also learned of their fathers, and of them thou shalt learn understanding, and to give answer as need requireth.
In like manner, they can neither give riches nor money: though a man make a
vow unto them, and keep it not, they will not
require it.
Then did there
assemble unto Alcimus and Bacchides a company of
scribes, to
require justice.
Wherefore now this day we
ordain thee to be the high priest of thy nation, and to be called the king’s friend; (and
therewithal he sent him a purple
robe and a crown of gold:) and
require thee to take our part, and keep friendship with us.
So
Menelaus got the principality: but as for the money that he had promised unto the king, he took no good order for it,
albeit Sostratis the ruler of the castle
required it:
Wherefore now,
manfully changing this life, I will
shew myself such an one as mine age
requireth,
After him was the third made a
mocking stock: and when he was
required, he put out his tongue, and that right soon, holding forth his hands
manfully.
We understand also that the Jews would not consent to our father, for to be brought unto the custom of the Gentiles, but had rather keep their own manner of living: for the which cause they require of us, that we should suffer them to live after their own laws.
