Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have
gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem:
yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
I said to myself, “Behold, I have grown and increased in wisdom beyond all those before me who were over Jerusalem, and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge.”
I
said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with
mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity.
I
said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure; enjoy what is good!” But it proved to be
futile.
Then
said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the
fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I
said in my heart, that this also is vanity.
So I
said to myself, “The fate of the
fool will also
befall me. What then have I gained by being wise?” And I
said to myself that this too is
futile.
I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
I said in my heart, “God will judge the righteous and the wicked, since there is a time for every activity and every deed.”
I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
I said to myself, “As for the sons of men, God tests them so that they may see for themselves that they are but beasts.”
There is one alone, and there is not a second;
yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither
saith he, For whom do I labour, and
bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity,
yea, it is a
sore travail.
There is a man all alone, without even a son or brother. And though there is no end to his labor, his eyes are still not content with his wealth: “For whom do I
toil and
bereave my soul of enjoyment?” This too is
futile—a
miserable task.
All this have I proved by wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it was far from me.
All this I tested by wisdom, saying, “I
resolve to be wise.” But it was beyond me.
Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, counting one by one, to find out the account:
“Behold,” says the Teacher, “I have discovered this by adding one thing to another to find an explanation.
There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.
There is a
futility that is done on the earth: There are righteous men who get what the actions of the wicked deserve, and there are wicked men who get what the actions of the righteous deserve. I say that this too is
futile.
Then
said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is
despised, and his words are not heard.
And I
said, “Wisdom is better than strength, but the wisdom of the poor man is
despised, and his words are not
heeded.”
Yea also, when he that is a
fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he
saith to every one that he is a
fool.
Even as the
fool walks along the road, his sense is lacking, and he shows
everyone that he is a
fool.
Vanity of
vanities,
saith the preacher; all is vanity.
My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
My beloved calls to me, “Arise, my
darling. Come away with me, my beautiful one.
The
watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I
said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?
I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: now also thy breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy nose like apples;
I
said, “I will
climb the palm tree; I will take hold of its fruit.” May your breasts be like clusters of the vine, the
fragrance of your breath like apples,
To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
“What good to Me is your multitude of sacrifices?” says the LORD. “I am full from the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of well-fed cattle; I take no delight in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.
Come now, and let us reason together,
saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like
crimson, they shall be as wool.
“Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are as red as
crimson, they will become like wool.
Therefore
saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel,
Ah, I will ease me of mine
adversaries, and
avenge me of mine enemies:
Therefore the Lord GOD of Hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, declares: “
Ah, I will be relieved of My foes and
avenge Myself on My enemies.
What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and
grind the faces of the poor?
saith the LORD GOD of hosts.
Why do you
crush My people and
grind the faces of the poor?” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.
Moreover the LORD
saith, Because the daughters of
Zion are
haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and
wanton eyes, walking and
mincing as they go, and making a
tinkling with their feet:
In mine ears
said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be
desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.
I heard the LORD of Hosts declare: “Surely many houses will become
desolate, great mansions left unoccupied.
And one
cried unto another, and
said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
And they were calling out to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts; all the earth is full of His glory.”
Then
said I,
Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
Then I
said: “
Woe is me, for I am ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips dwelling among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts.”
And he laid it upon my mouth, and
said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin
purged.
And with it he touched my mouth and
said: “Now that this has touched your lips, your iniquity is removed and your sin is
atoned for.”
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for Us?” And I said: “Here am I. Send me!”
And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
And He replied: “Go and tell this people, ‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’
Then
said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly
desolate,
Then I asked: “How long, O Lord?” And He replied: “Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left unoccupied and the land is
desolate and
ravaged,
Then
said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet
Ahaz, thou, and
Shear-jashub thy son, at the end of the
conduit of the upper
pool in the
highway of the fuller’s field;
Then the LORD
said to Isaiah, “Go out with your son
Shear-jashub to meet
Ahaz at the end of the
aqueduct that feeds the upper
pool, on the road to the
Launderer’s Field,
Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.
But this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘It will not arise; it will not happen.
But
Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I
tempt the LORD.
But
Ahaz replied, “I will not ask; I will not test the LORD.”
And he
said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to
weary men, but will ye
weary my God also?
Then Isaiah
said, “Hear now, O house of David! Is it not enough to try the
patience of men? Will you try the
patience of my God as well?
Moreover the LORD
said unto me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man’s pen concerning Maher-shalal-
hash-baz.
Then the LORD
said to me, “Take a large
scroll and write on it with an ordinary
stylus: Maher-shalal-
hash-baz.
And I went unto the
prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then
said the LORD to me, Call his name Maher-shalal-
hash-baz.
And I had relations with the
prophetess, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. The LORD
said to me, “Name him Maher-shalal-
hash-baz.
For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?
“Are not all my commanders kings?” he says.
For he
saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am
prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have
robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a
valiant man:
For he says: ‘By the strength of my hand I have done this, and by my wisdom, for I am
clever. I have removed the boundaries of nations and
plundered their treasures; like a mighty one I subdued their rulers.
Therefore thus
saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in
Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall
smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD of Hosts says: “O My people who dwell in
Zion, do not fear Assyria, who strikes you with a rod and lifts his staff against you as the Egyptians did.
For thou hast
said in thine heart, I will
ascend into heaven, I will
exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
You
said in your heart: “I will
ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God. I will sit on the mount of assembly, in the far reaches of the north.
For I will rise up against them,
saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and
remnant, and son, and nephew,
saith the LORD.
“I will rise up against them,” declares the LORD of Hosts. “I will cut off from Babylon her name and her
remnant, her offspring and her
posterity,” declares the LORD.
I will also make it a possession for the
bittern, and pools of water: and I will
sweep it with the
besom of destruction,
saith the LORD of hosts.
“I will make her a place for owls and for swamplands; I will
sweep her away with the
broom of destruction,” declares the LORD of Hosts.
The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the
remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel,
saith the LORD of hosts.
The fortress will disappear from Ephraim, and the sovereignty from Damascus. The
remnant of
Aram will be like the
splendor of the Israelites,” declares the LORD of Hosts.
Yet
gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the
shaking of an olive tree, two or three
berries in the top of the
uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof,
saith the LORD God of Israel.
Yet gleanings will remain, like an olive tree that has been beaten— two or three
berries atop the tree, four or five on its fruitful branches,” declares the LORD, the God of Israel.
For so the LORD
said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of
dew in the heat of harvest.
For this is what the LORD has told me: “I will quietly look on from My dwelling place, like
shimmering heat in the
sunshine, like a cloud of
dew in the heat of harvest.”
And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.
I will deliver the Egyptians into the hands of harsh masters, and a fierce king will rule over them,” declares the Lord GOD of Hosts.
And the LORD
said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and
barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon
Ethiopia;
Then the LORD
said, “Just as My servant Isaiah has gone naked and
barefoot for three years as a sign and
omen against Egypt and
Cush,
For thus hath the Lord
said unto me, Go, set a
watchman, let him declare what he
seeth.
For this is what the Lord says to me: “Go, post a
lookout and have him report what he sees.
And, behold, here cometh a
chariot of men, with a couple of
horsemen. And he answered and
said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the
graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.
Look, here come the riders,
horsemen in pairs.” And one answered, saying: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon! All the images of her gods lie
shattered on the ground!”
The
watchman replies, “Morning has come, but also the night. If you would inquire, then inquire. Come back yet again.”
For thus hath the Lord
said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an
hireling, and all the glory of
Kedar shall fail:
For this is what the Lord says to me: “Within one year, as a
hired worker would count it, all the glory of
Kedar will be gone.
Therefore
said I, Look away from me; I will
weep bitterly, labour not to comfort me, because of the
spoiling of the daughter of my people.
Therefore I
said, “Turn away from me, let me
weep bitterly! Do not try to
console me over the destruction of the daughter of my people.”
And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be
purged from you till ye die,
saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
The LORD of Hosts has revealed in my hearing: “Until your dying day, this sin of yours will never be
atoned for,” says the Lord GOD of Hosts.
Thus
saith the Lord GOD of hosts, Go, get thee unto this
treasurer, even unto Shebna, which is over the house, and say,
This is what the Lord GOD of Hosts says: “Go, say to Shebna, the
steward in charge of the palace:
In that day,
saith the LORD of hosts, shall the
nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the LORD hath spoken it.
In that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, the
peg driven into a firm place will give way; it will be
sheared off and fall, and the load upon it will be cut down.” Indeed, the LORD has spoken.
And he
said, Thou shalt no more
rejoice, O thou
oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to
Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest.
He
said, “You shall
rejoice no more, O
oppressed Virgin Daughter of
Sidon. Get up and cross over to
Cyprus— even there you will find no rest.”
And it shall be
said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be
glad and
rejoice in his salvation.
And in that day it will be
said, “Surely this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He has saved us. This is the LORD for whom we have waited. Let us
rejoice and be
glad in His salvation.”
To whom he
said, This is the rest
wherewith ye may cause the
weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
to whom He has
said: “This is the place of rest, let the
weary rest; this is the place of
repose.” But they would not
listen.
Because ye have
said, We have made a covenant with death, and with
hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing
scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under
falsehood have we
hid ourselves:
For you
said, “We have made a covenant with death; we have fashioned an agreement with
Sheol. When the
overwhelming scourge passes through it will not touch us, because we have made lies our refuge and
falsehood our hiding place.”
Therefore thus
saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in
Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make
haste.
So this is what the Lord GOD says: “See, I lay a stone in
Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; the one who believes will never be
shaken.
And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
And the entire vision will be to you like the words sealed in a
scroll. If it is handed to someone to read, he will say, “I cannot, because it is sealed.”
And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.
Or if the
scroll is handed to one unable to read, he will say, “I cannot read.”
Wherefore the Lord
said,
Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the
precept of men:
Therefore the Lord said: “These people draw near to Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. Their worship of Me is but rules taught by men.
Therefore thus
saith the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be
ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale.
Therefore the LORD who redeemed Abraham says of the house of Jacob: “No longer will Jacob be
ashamed and no more will his face grow pale.
Woe to the
rebellious children,
saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:
“
Woe to the
rebellious children,” declares the LORD, “to those who carry out a plan that is not Mine, who form an alliance, but against My will,
heaping up sin upon sin.
Wherefore thus
saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye
despise this word, and trust in oppression and
perverseness, and stay
thereon:
Therefore this is what the Holy One of Israel says: “Because you have rejected this message, trusting in oppression and relying on
deceit,
For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.
For the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, has
said: “By
repentance and rest you would be saved; your strength would lie in quiet confidence— but you were not willing.”
But ye
said, No; for we will
flee upon horses; therefore shall ye
flee: and, We will
ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.
“No,” you say, “we will
flee on horses.” Therefore you will
flee! “We will
ride swift horses,” but your pursuers will be faster.
For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion
roaring on his prey, when a multitude of
shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor
abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount
Zion, and for the hill thereof.
For this is what the LORD has
said to me: “Like a lion
roaring or a young lion over its prey— and though a band of
shepherds is called out against it, it is not
terrified by their
shouting or subdued by their
clamor— so the LORD of Hosts will come down to do battle on Mount
Zion and its heights.
And he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the
ensign,
saith the LORD, whose fire is in
Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.
Their rock will pass away for fear, and their princes will
panic at the sight of the battle standard,” declares the LORD, whose fire is in
Zion, whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
No longer will a
fool be called noble, nor a
scoundrel be respected.
Now will I rise,
saith the LORD; now will I be
exalted; now will I lift up myself.
“Now I will arise,” says the LORD. “Now I will lift Myself up. Now I will be
exalted.
Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well
strengthen their mast, they could not spread the
sail: then is the prey of a great
spoil divided; the
lame take the prey.
Your ropes are
slack; they cannot secure the mast or spread the
sail. Then an abundance of spoils will be divided, and even the
lame will carry off
plunder.
And
Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to
Hezekiah, Thus
saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
The
Rabshakeh said to them, “Tell
Hezekiah that this is what the great king, the king of Assyria, says: What is the basis of this confidence of yours?
But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars
Hezekiah hath taken away, and
said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
But if you say to me, ‘We trust in the LORD our God,’ is He not the One whose high places and altars
Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship before this altar’?
And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? the LORD said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
So now, was it apart from the LORD that I have come up against this land to destroy it? The LORD Himself said to me, ‘Go up against this land and destroy it.’”
Then
said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto
Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the
Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews’ language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah
said to the
Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in
Aramaic, since we understand it. Do not speak to us in Hebrew in the hearing of the people on the wall.”
But
Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own
piss with you?
But the
Rabshakeh replied, “Has my master sent me to speak these words only to you and your master, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are destined with you to eat their own dung and drink their own
urine?”
Then
Rabshakeh stood, and
cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and
said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
Then the
Rabshakeh stood and called out loudly in Hebrew: “Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria!
Thus
saith the king, Let not
Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.
This is what the king says: Do not let
Hezekiah deceive you, for he cannot deliver you.
Hearken not to
Hezekiah: for thus
saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own
cistern;
Do not
listen to
Hezekiah, for this is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me. Then every one of you will eat from his own vine and his own fig tree, and drink water from his own
cistern,
And they
said unto him, Thus
saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of
rebuke, and of
blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.
to tell him, “This is what
Hezekiah says:
Today is a day of distress,
rebuke, and disgrace; for children have come to the point of birth, but there is no strength to deliver them.
And Isaiah
said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus
saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard,
wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have
blasphemed me.
who replied, “Tell your master that this is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid of the words you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have
blasphemed Me.
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto
Hezekiah, saying, Thus
saith the LORD God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against
Sennacherib king of Assyria:
Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to
Hezekiah: “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Because you have prayed to Me concerning
Sennacherib king of Assyria,
By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast
said, By the multitude of my
chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of
Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice
fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his
Carmel.
Through your servants you have
taunted the Lord, and you have
said: “With my many
chariots I have ascended to the heights of the mountains, to the remote peaks of
Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars, the finest of its
cypresses. I have reached its
farthest heights, the densest of its forests.
Therefore thus
saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an
arrow there nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.
So this is what the LORD says about the king of Assyria: ‘He will not enter this city or shoot an
arrow into it. He will not come before it with a shield or build up a siege
ramp against it.
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
He will go back the way he came, and he will not enter this city,’ declares the LORD.
In those days was
Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and
said unto him, Thus
saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and
said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.’”
And
said, Remember now, O LORD, I
beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And
Hezekiah wept sore.
saying, “Please, O LORD, remember how I have walked before You faithfully and with wholehearted devotion; I have done what was good in Your sight.” And
Hezekiah wept bitterly.
Go, and say to
Hezekiah, Thus
saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.
“Go and tell
Hezekiah that this is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: ‘I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.
I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years.
I
said, “In the prime of my life I must go through the gates of
Sheol and be deprived of the remainder of my years.”
I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
I said, “I will never again see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living; I will no longer look on mankind with those who dwell in this world.
For Isaiah had
said, Let them take a
lump of figs, and lay it for a
plaister upon the
boil, and he shall recover.
Now Isaiah had
said, “Prepare a
lump of pressed figs and apply it to the
boil, and he will recover.”
Hezekiah also had
said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?
And
Hezekiah had asked, “What will be the sign that I will go up to the house of the LORD?”
Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king
Hezekiah, and
said unto him, What
said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And
Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country unto me, even from Babylon.
Then the prophet Isaiah went to King
Hezekiah and asked, “Where did those men come from, and what did they say to you?” “They came to me from a distant land,”
Hezekiah replied, “from Babylon.”
Then
said he, What have they seen in thine house? And
Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
“What have they seen in your palace?” Isaiah asked. “They have seen everything in my palace,” answered
Hezekiah. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”
Then
said Isaiah to
Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD of hosts:
Then Isaiah
said to
Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD of Hosts:
Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
Then
said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. He
said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.
But
Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “At least there will be peace and security in my lifetime.”
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
“Comfort, comfort My people,” says your God.
The voice
said, Cry. And he
said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the
goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
A voice says, “Cry out!” And I asked, “What should I cry out?” “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flowers of the field.
