And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt
see on that day when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide
thyself.
Micaiah replied, “You will soon see, on that day when you go and hide in an inner room.”
And
Jehu the son of Hanani the
seer went out to meet him, and said to king
Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that
hate the LORD? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD.
Jehu son of Hanani the
seer went out to
confront him and said to King
Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who
hate the LORD? Because of this, the wrath of the LORD is upon you.
Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.
However, some good is found in you, for you have removed the Asherah poles from the land and have set your heart on seeking God.”
And
Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to
seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
Jehoshaphat was
alarmed and set his face to
seek the LORD. And he proclaimed a fast throughout Judah.
And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.
So the people of Judah gathered to seek the LORD, and indeed, they came from all the cities of Judah to seek Him.
Art not thou our God, who
didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the
seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
Our God, did You not drive out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel and give it
forever to the descendants of Abraham Your friend?
Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to
inherit.
See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession that You gave us as an inheritance.
To
morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the
cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the
brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
Tomorrow you are to march down against them. You will
see them coming up the
Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the valley facing the Wilderness of Jeruel.
Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set
yourselves, stand ye still, and
see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to
morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
You need not fight this battle. Take up your positions, stand firm, and
see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out and face them
tomorrow, for the LORD is with you.’”
And he returned to be
healed in
Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at
Ramah, when he fought with
Hazael king of Syria. And
Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to
see Jehoram the son of
Ahab at
Jezreel, because he was sick.
so he returned to
Jezreel to recover from the wounds they had inflicted on him at
Ramah when he fought against
Hazael king of
Aram. Then
Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to
Jezreel to visit
Joram son of
Ahab, because
Joram had been wounded.
But when
Athaliah the mother of
Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the
seed royal of the house of Judah.
When
Athaliah the mother of
Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to
annihilate all the royal heirs of the house of Judah.
And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and
see that ye
hasten the matter.
Howbeit the Levites
hastened it not.
So he gathered the priests and Levites and said, “Go out to the cities of Judah and collect the money due annually from all Israel, to repair the house of your God. Do it quickly.” The Levites, however, did not make
haste.
Thus
Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but
slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.
Thus King
Joash failed to remember the kindness that
Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had extended to him. Instead,
Joash killed Jehoiada’s son. As he lay dying,
Zechariah said, “May the LORD
see this and call you to account.”
Then
Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to
Joash, the son of
Jehoahaz, the son of
Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us
see one another in the face.
Then
Amaziah king of Judah took counsel and sent word to the king of Israel Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz, the son of
Jehu. “Come, let us meet face to face,” he said.
Wherefore the wrath of the LORD was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he hath delivered them to trouble, to
astonishment, and to
hissing, as ye
see with your eyes.
Therefore, the wrath of the LORD has fallen upon Judah and Jerusalem, and He has made them an object of terror,
horror, and
mockery, as you can
see with your own eyes.
And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with
psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of
Gad the king’s
seer, and
Nathan the prophet: for so was the commandment of the LORD by his prophets.
Hezekiah stationed the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres according to the command of David, of
Gad the king’s
seer, and of
Nathan the prophet. For the command had come from the LORD through His prophets.
Moreover
Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise unto the LORD with the words of David, and of
Asaph the
seer. And they
sang praises with
gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshipped.
Then King
Hezekiah and his officials ordered the Levites to sing praises to the LORD in the words of David and of
Asaph the
seer. So they
sang praises with
gladness and bowed their heads and worshiped.
And be not ye like your fathers, and like your brethren, which
trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to
desolation, as ye
see.
Do not be like your fathers and brothers who were unfaithful to the LORD, the God of their fathers, so that He made them an object of
horror, as you can
see.
That prepareth his heart to
seek God, the LORD God of his fathers, though he be not
cleansed according to the
purification of the sanctuary.
who sets his heart on
seeking God—the LORD, the God of his fathers—even if he is not
cleansed according to the
purification rules of the sanctuary.”
And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to
seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and
prospered.
He was
diligent in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law and the commandments, in order to
seek his God. And so he
prospered.
Now the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the
seers that spake to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel.
As for the rest of the acts of
Manasseh, along with his prayer to his God and the words of the
seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, they are indeed written in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
His prayer also, and how God was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his
trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up groves and
graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the
seers.
His prayer and how God received his
plea, as well as all his sin and unfaithfulness, and the sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself, they are indeed written in the Records of the
Seers.
For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to
seek after the God of David his father: and in the
twelfth year he began to
purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the
molten images.
In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young,
Josiah began to
seek the God of his father David, and in the
twelfth year he began to
cleanse Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images.
Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.
‘Now I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not
see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place and on its inhabitants.’” So they brought her answer back to the king.
And the singers the sons of
Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and
Asaph, and Heman, and
Jeduthun the king’s
seer; and the
porters waited at every gate; they might not depart from their service; for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.
The singers, the descendants of
Asaph, were at their stations according to the command of David,
Asaph, Heman, and
Jeduthun the king’s
seer. And the gatekeepers at each gate did not need to leave their position, because their fellow Levites made preparations for them.
And these were they which went up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsa,
Cherub, Addan, and Immer: but they could not
shew their father’s house, and their
seed, whether they were of Israel:
The following came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha,
Cherub, Addan, and Immer, but could not prove that their families were descended from Israel:
But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had
seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes,
wept with a loud voice; and many
shouted aloud for joy:
But many of the older priests, Levites, and family heads who had
seen the first temple
wept loudly when they saw the foundation of this temple. Still, many others
shouted joyfully.
Then they came to
Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we
seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up
hither.
they approached
Zerubbabel and the heads of the families, saying, “Let us build with you because, like you, we
seek your God and have been sacrificing to Him since the time of King Esar-haddon of Assyria, who brought us here.”
Now because we have maintenance from the king’s palace, and it was not meet for us to
see the king’s dishonour, therefore have we sent and
certified the king;
Now because we are in the service of the palace and it is not fitting for us to allow the king to be dishonored, we have sent to inform the king
Take
heed now that ye fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the
hurt of the kings?
See that you do not neglect this matter. Why allow this
threat to increase and the royal interests to suffer?
Now therefore, if it
seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king’s
treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
Now, therefore, if it pleases the king, let a search be made of the royal
archives in Babylon to
see if King Cyrus did indeed issue a decree to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem. Then let the king send us his decision in this matter.
And the children of Israel, which were come again out of captivity, and all such as had separated themselves unto them from the
filthiness of the heathen of the land, to
seek the LORD God of Israel, did eat,
The Israelites who had returned from exile
ate it, together with all who had separated themselves from the uncleanness of the peoples of the land to
seek the LORD, the God of Israel.
For
Ezra had prepared his heart to
seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.
For
Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the LORD, to practice it, and to teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel.
And
whatsoever shall
seem good to thee, and to thy brethren, to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.
You and your brothers may do whatever seems best with the rest of the silver and gold, according to the will of your God.
Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of
Ahava, that we might
afflict ourselves before our God, to
seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.
And there by the
Ahava Canal I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask Him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions.
For I was
ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and
horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that
seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that
forsake him.
For I was
ashamed to ask the king for an
escort of soldiers and
horsemen to protect us from our enemies on the road, since we had told him, “The hand of our God is
gracious to all who
seek Him, but His great anger is against all who
forsake Him.”
For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy
seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands:
yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this
trespass.
Indeed, the Israelites have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed has been mixed with the people of the land. And the leaders and officials have taken the lead in this unfaithfulness!”
Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.
Now, therefore, do not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. Never
seek their peace or prosperity, so that you may be strong and may eat the good things of the land, leaving it as an inheritance to your sons
forever.’
And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great
trespass,
seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our
iniquities deserve, and hast given us such
deliverance as this;
After all that has come upon us because of our evil deeds and our great guilt (though You, our God, have punished us less than our
iniquities deserve and have given us such a
remnant as this),
Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance
sad,
seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very
sore afraid,
so the king said to me, “Why is your face
sad, though you are not ill? This could only be
sadness of the heart.” I was
overwhelmed with fear
But when
Sanballat the Horonite and
Tobiah the
Ammonite official heard about this, they were deeply disturbed that someone had come to
seek the well-being of the Israelites.
Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.
Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in. Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned down. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, so that we will no longer be a disgrace.”
And our
adversaries said, They shall not know, neither
see, till we come in the midst among them, and
slay them, and cause the work to cease.
And our enemies said, “Before they know or see a thing, we will come into their midst, kill them, and put an end to the work.”
And these were they which went up also from Telmelah, Telharesha,
Cherub, Addon, and Immer: but they could not
shew their father’s house, nor their
seed, whether they were of Israel.
The following came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha,
Cherub, Addon, and Immer, but could not prove that their families were descended from Israel:
And the
seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and
confessed their sins, and the
iniquities of their fathers.
Those of
Israelite descent separated themselves from all the foreigners, and they stood and
confessed their sins and the
iniquities of their fathers.
And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the
Canaanites, the
Hittites, the
Amorites, and the
Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his
seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou art righteous:
You found his heart faithful before You, and made a covenant with him to give the land of the
Canaanites and
Hittites, of the
Amorites and
Perizzites, of the Jebusites and Girgashites— to give it to his descendants. You have kept Your promise, because You are righteous.
And
didst see the
affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heardest their cry by the Red sea;
You saw the
affliction of our fathers in Egypt; You heard their cry at the Red Sea.
Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day.
So now, our God, the great and mighty and
awesome God who keeps His
gracious covenant, do not view lightly all the
hardship that has come upon us, and upon our kings and leaders, our priests and prophets, our ancestors and all Your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until
today.
Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he
hearkened not unto them, that they told
Haman, to
see whether
Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a
Jew.
And the king said unto
Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it
seemeth good to thee.
“Keep your money,” said the king to
Haman. “These people are given to you to do with them as you please.”
And
Esther answered, If it
seem good unto the king, let the king and
Haman come this day unto the
banquet that I have prepared for him.
“If it pleases the king,”
Esther replied, “may the king and
Haman come
today to the
banquet I have prepared for the king.”
Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I
see Mordecai the
Jew sitting at the king’s gate.
Yet none of this satisfies me as long as I
see Mordecai the
Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”
And
Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had
befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If
Mordecai be of the
seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.
Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened. His advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, “Since
Mordecai, before whom your
downfall has begun, is Jewish, you will not prevail against him—for surely you will fall before him.”
And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and the thing
seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by
Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in all the king’s provinces:
“If it pleases the king,” she said, “and if I have found favor in his sight, and the matter
seems proper to the king, and I am pleasing in his sight, may an order be written to
revoke the letters that the scheming
Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, wrote to destroy the Jews in all the king’s provinces.
For how can I
endure to
see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I
endure to
see the destruction of my kindred?
For how could I bear to
see the
disaster that would
befall my people? How could I bear to
see the destruction of my kindred?”
Wherefore they called these days
Purim after the name of
Pur. Therefore for all the words of this letter, and of that which they had
seen concerning this matter, and which had come unto them,
Therefore these days are called
Purim, from the word
Pur. Because of all the instructions in this letter, and because of all they had
seen and experienced,
The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;
the Jews bound themselves to establish the custom that they and their descendants and all who join them should not fail to
celebrate these two days at the appointed time each and every year, according to their regulation.
And that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of
Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the
memorial of them perish from their
seed.
These days should be remembered and celebrated by every generation, family, province, and city, so that these days of
Purim should not fail to be observed among the Jews, nor should the memory of them
fade from their descendants.
To
confirm these days of
Purim in their times appointed, according as
Mordecai the
Jew and
Esther the queen had
enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their
seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.
in order to
confirm these days of
Purim at their appointed time, just as
Mordecai the
Jew and Queen
Esther had established them and had committed themselves and their descendants to the times of fasting and
lamentation.
For
Mordecai the
Jew was next unto king
Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren,
seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his
seed.
For
Mordecai the
Jew was second only to King
Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews and highly favored by his many
kinsmen,
seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all his countrymen.
Let the stars of the
twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it
see the
dawning of the day:
May its morning stars grow dark; may it wait in vain for
daylight; may it not
see the breaking of
dawn.
Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.
Or why was I not hidden like a
stillborn child, like an infant who never
sees daylight?
Even as I have
seen, they that
plow iniquity, and
sow wickedness,
reap the same.
As I have observed, those who
plow iniquity and those who
sow trouble
reap the same.
I have
seen a
fool taking root, but suddenly his house was
cursed.
I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:
However, if I were you, I would appeal to God and lay my cause before Him—
Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
You will know that your offspring will be many, your descendants like the grass of the earth.
For now ye are no thing; ye see my casting down, and are afraid.
For now you are of no help; you see terror, and you are afraid.
O remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good.
Remember that my life is but a breath. My eyes will never again see happiness.
The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no more: thine eyes are upon me, and I am not.
The eye that beholds me will no longer see me. You will look for me, but I will be no more.
And why
dost thou not
pardon my
transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt
seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.
Why do You not
pardon my
transgression and take away my iniquity? For soon I will lie down in the dust; You will
seek me, but I will be no more.”
But if you would earnestly
seek God and ask the
Almighty for mercy,
His roots
wrap around the rock
heap; he looks for a home among the stones.
If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.
If he is uprooted from his place, it will disown him, saying, ‘I never saw you.’
Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.
Were He to pass by me, I would not see Him; were He to move, I would not recognize Him.
Now my days are swifter than a post: they
flee away, they
see no good.
My days are swifter than a
runner; they
flee without
seeing good.
Hast thou eyes of flesh? or
seest thou as man
seeth?
Do You have eyes of flesh? Do You see as man sees?
That thou enquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin?
that You should seek my iniquity and search out my sin—
If I be wicked,
woe unto me; and if I be righteous, yet will I not lift up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore
see thou mine
affliction;
If I am guilty,
woe to me! And even if I am righteous, I cannot lift my head. I am full of shame and aware of my
affliction.
Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth out of the
womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had
seen me!
Why then did You bring me from the
womb? Oh, that I had died, and no eye had
seen me!
For he knoweth vain men: he
seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?
Surely He knows the
deceit of men. If He
sees iniquity, does He not take note?
Lo, mine eye hath seen all this, mine ear hath heard and understood it.
“Indeed, my eyes have seen all this; my ears have heard and understood.
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
Since his days are determined and the number of his months is with You, and since You have set limits that he cannot exceed,
I will
shew thee, hear me; and that which I have
seen I will declare;
Listen to me and I will inform you. I will describe what I have
seen,
They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.
They have turned night into day, making light seem near in the face of darkness.
And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?
where then is my hope? Who can see any hope for me?
And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
Even after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God.
Whom I shall
see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my
reins be consumed within me.
I will see Him for myself; my eyes will behold Him, and not as a stranger. How my heart yearns within me!
But ye should say, Why
persecute we him,
seeing the root of the matter is found in me?
If you say, ‘Let us
persecute him, since the root of the matter lies with him,’
Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?
he will perish
forever, like his own dung; those who had
seen him will ask, ‘Where is he?’
The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.
The eye that saw him will see him no more, and his place will no longer behold him.
His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
His sons will seek the favor of the poor, for his own hands must return his wealth.
He shall not
see the rivers, the floods, the
brooks of honey and butter.
He will not enjoy the streams, the rivers flowing with honey and
cream.
Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.
Their descendants are established around them, and their offspring before their eyes.
His eyes shall
see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the
Almighty.
Let his eyes
see his own destruction; let him drink for himself the wrath of the
Almighty.
Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.
Can
anyone teach knowledge to God, since He judges those on high?
How then comfort ye me in vain,
seeing in your answers there remaineth
falsehood?
So how can you comfort me with empty words? For your answers remain full of
falsehood.”
Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
it is so dark you cannot see, and a flood of water covers you.
Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he
seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
Thick clouds
veil Him so He does not
see us as He traverses the
vault of heaven.’
The righteous
see it, and are
glad: and the innocent
laugh them to
scorn.
The righteous
see it and are
glad; the innocent
mock them:
On the left hand, where he
doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot
see him:
When He is at work in the north, I cannot behold Him; when He turns to the south, I cannot see Him.
