Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him,
Didst not thou, my lord, O king,
swear unto thine
handmaid, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall
sit upon my throne? why then
doth Adonijah reign?
Go at once to King David and say, ‘My lord the king, did you not
swear to your
maidservant, “Surely your son Solomon will reign after me, and he will
sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’
And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine
handmaid, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall
sit upon my throne.
“My lord,” she replied, “you
yourself swore to your
maidservant by the LORD your God: ‘Surely your son Solomon will reign after me, and he will
sit on my throne.’
And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
And as for you, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are upon you to tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
And
Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall
sit upon my throne?
“My lord the king,” said
Nathan, “did you say, ‘Adonijah will reign after me, and he will
sit on my throne’?
Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not shewed it unto thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?
Has my lord the king let this happen without informing your servant who should sit on the throne after my lord the king?”
Even as I
sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall
sit upon my throne in my
stead; even so will I certainly do this day.
I will carry out this very day exactly what I
swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel: Surely your son Solomon will reign after me, and he will
sit on my throne in my place.”
Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and
sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my
stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.
Then you shall go up with him, and he is to come and sit on my throne and reign in my place. For I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah.”
And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom.
Moreover, Solomon has taken his seat on the royal throne.
And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.
saying, ‘Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel!
Today He has provided one to
sit on my throne, and my eyes have seen it.’”
And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
Solomon replied, “You have shown much loving devotion to Your servant, my father David, because he walked before You in faithfulness, righteousness, and uprightness of heart. And You have maintained this loving devotion by giving him a son to sit on his throne this very day.
And the LORD hath performed his word that he spake, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now the LORD has fulfilled the word that He spoke. I have succeeded my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to
sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take
heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk before Me as you have done.’
And the meat of his table, and the
sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their

ascent by which he went up unto the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.

And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back:
While they were sitting at the table, the word of the LORD came to the prophet who had brought him back,
And the king of Israel and
Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets

Jehoshaphat king of Judah were
sitting on their thrones at the
threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets
prophesying before them.

And the men of the city said unto
Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the
situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord
seeth: but the water is
naught, and the ground barren.
Then the men of the city said to
Elisha, “Please note, our lord, that the city’s
location is good, as you can see. But the water is bad and the land is unfruitful.”
And
Elisha came again to
Gilgal: and there was a
dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were
sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and
seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.
When
Elisha returned to
Gilgal, there was a famine in the land. As the sons of the prophets were
sitting at his feet, he said to his
attendant, “Put on the large pot and
boil some
stew for the sons of the prophets.”
But
Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but
ere the
messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the
messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?
Now
Elisha was
sitting in his house, and the elders were
sitting with him. The king sent a
messenger ahead, but before he arrived,
Elisha said to the elders, “Do you see how this murderer has sent someone to cut off my head? Look, when the
messenger comes, shut the door to keep him out. Is not the sound of his master’s footsteps behind him?”
And there were four
leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why
sit we here until we die?
Now there were four men with
leprosy at the entrance of the city gate, and they said to one another, “Why just
sit here until we die?
If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.
If we say, ‘Let us go into the city,’ we will die there from the famine in the city; but if we sit here, we will also die. So come now, let us go over to the camp of the Arameans. If they let us live, we will live; if they kill us, we will die.”
And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were
sitting; and he said, I have an
errand to thee, O captain. And
Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain.
and when he arrived, the army commanders were
sitting there. “I have a message for you, commander,” he said. “For which of us?” asked
Jehu. “For you, commander,” he replied.
And the LORD said unto
Jehu, Because thou hast done well in
executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of
Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall
sit on the throne of Israel.
Nevertheless, the LORD said to
Jehu, “Because you have done well in carrying out what is right in My sight and have done to the house of
Ahab all that was in My heart, four generations of your sons will
sit on the throne of Israel.”
This was the word of the LORD which he spake unto
Jehu, saying, Thy sons shall
sit on the throne of Israel unto the fourth generation. And so it came to pass.
So the word of the LORD spoken to
Jehu was fulfilled: “Four generations of your sons will
sit on the throne of Israel.”
But
Rab-shakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which
sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own
piss with you.
But the
Rabshakeh replied, “Has my master sent me to speak these words only to you and your master, and not to the men
sitting on the wall, who are destined with you to eat their own dung and drink their own
urine?”
But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy
rage against me.

sitting down, your going out and coming in, and your
raging against Me.

brake in pieces the images, and cut down the groves, and filled their places with the bones of men.

Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.
Then David said to Ornan, “Grant me the
site of this
threshing floor, that I may build an altar to the LORD. Sell it to me for the full price, so that the plague upon the people may be
halted.”
So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.
So David paid Ornan six hundred shekels of gold for the site.
And of all my sons, (for the LORD hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
And of all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—He has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.
The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
Now the LORD has fulfilled the word that He spoke. I have succeeded my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to
sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take
heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’
And the meat of his table, and the
sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their
apparel; his cupbearers also, and their
apparel; and his
ascent by which he went up into the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her.
the food at his table, the seating of his servants, the service and
attire of his attendants and cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he presented at the house of the LORD, it took her breath away.

And the king of Israel and
Jehoshaphat king of Judah sat either of them on his throne, clothed in their robes, and they sat in a void place at the entering in of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets
prophesied before them.
Dressed in royal

Jehoshaphat king of Judah were
sitting on their thrones at the
threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets
prophesying before them.
Again he said, Therefore hear the word of the LORD; I saw the LORD sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.
Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing on His right and on His left.
His prayer also, and how God was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his
trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up groves and
graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.
His prayer and how God received his
plea, as well as all his sin and unfaithfulness, and the
sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled himself, they are indeed written in the Records of the Seers.
And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:
When they arrived at the house of the LORD in Jerusalem, some of the heads of the families gave
freewill offerings to rebuild the house of God on its original
site.
And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.
and
instructed, ‘Take these articles, put them in the temple in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its original

And the king said unto me, (the queen also
sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when
wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
Then the king, with the queen seated beside him, asked me, “How long will your journey take, and when will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me, and I set a time.
And when the virgins were gathered together the second time, then
Mordecai sat in the king’s gate.
When the virgins were assembled a second time,
Mordecai was
sitting at the king’s gate.
In those days, while
Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were
wroth, and sought to lay hand on the king
Ahasuerus.
Now it came to pass on the third day, that
Esther put on her royal
apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.
On the third day,
Esther put on her royal
attire and stood in the inner court of the palace across from the king’s quarters. The king was
sitting on his royal throne in the royal courtroom, facing the entrance.
Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see
Mordecai the
Jew sitting at the king’s gate.
Yet none of this satisfies me as long as I see
Mordecai the
Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”
Then the king said to
Haman, Make
haste, and take the
apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to
Mordecai the
Jew, that
sitteth at the king’s gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.
“
Hurry,” said the king to
Haman, “and do just as you proposed. Take the
robe and the horse to
Mordecai the
Jew, who is
sitting at the king’s gate. Do not neglect anything that you have suggested.”
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor
sitteth in the seat of the
scornful.
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or set foot on the path of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers.
He that
sitteth in the heavens shall
laugh: the Lord shall have them in
derision.
The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord taunts them.
