And
Cain talked with
Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that
Cain rose up against
Abel his brother, and
slew him.
Then
Cain said to his brother
Abel, “Let us go out to the field.” And while they were in the field,
Cain rose up against his brother
Abel and killed him.
And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name
Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of
Abel, whom
Cain slew.
And Adam again had relations with his wife, and she gave birth to a son and named him
Seth, saying, “God has granted me another seed in place of
Abel, since
Cain killed him.”
And it came to pass on the third day, when they were
sore, that two of the sons of Jacob,
Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and
slew all the males.
Three days later, while they were still in pain, two of Jacob’s sons (Dinah’s brothers
Simeon and Levi) took their swords, went into the
unsuspecting city, and slaughtered every male.
And they
slew Hamor and
Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of
Shechem’s house, and went out.
They killed Hamor and his son
Shechem with their swords, took Dinah out of
Shechem’s house, and went away.
And Er, Judah’s
firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD
slew him.
But Er, Judah’s
firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; so the LORD put him to death.
And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.
What he did was wicked in the sight of the LORD, so He put Onan to death as well.
O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they
slew a man, and in their selfwill they
digged down a wall.
May I never enter their council; may I never join their assembly. For they kill men in their anger, and
hamstring oxen on a
whim.
And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he
slew the Egyptian, and
hid him in the sand.
After looking this way and that and seeing no one, he struck down the Egyptian and
hid his body in the sand.
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD
slew all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the
firstborn of man, and the
firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the
matrix, being males; but all the
firstborn of my children I
redeem.
And when Pharaoh
stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed every
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both of man and beast. This is why I sacrifice to the LORD the
firstborn male of every
womb, but I
redeem all the
firstborn of my sons.’
And he
slew it; and Moses took the blood, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about with his finger, and
purified the altar, and poured the blood at the bottom of the altar, and
sanctified it, to make
reconciliation upon it.
Moses slaughtered the bull, took some of the blood, and applied it with his finger to all four horns of the altar,
purifying the altar. He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar and consecrated it so that
atonement could be made on it.
And he
slew it; and Moses took of the blood of it, and put it upon the
tip of Aaron’s right ear, and upon the
thumb of his right hand, and upon the great
toe of his right foot.
Moses slaughtered the ram and took some of its blood and put it on Aaron’s right earlobe, on the
thumb of his right hand, and on the
big toe of his right foot.
Aaron therefore went unto the altar, and
slew the
calf of the sin offering, which was for himself.
So Aaron approached the altar and slaughtered the
calf as a sin offering for himself.
And he
slew the burnt offering; and Aaron’s sons presented unto him the blood, which he
sprinkled round about upon the altar.
Then Aaron slaughtered the burnt offering. His sons brought him the blood, and he
sprinkled it on all sides of the altar.
And he brought the people’s offering, and took the goat, which was the sin offering for the people, and slew it, and offered it for sin, as the first.
Aaron then presented the people’s offering. He took the male goat for the people’s sin offering, slaughtered it, and offered it for sin like the first one.
He
slew also the
bullock and the ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings, which was for the people: and Aaron’s sons presented unto him the blood, which he
sprinkled upon the altar round about,
Then he slaughtered the ox and the ram as the people’s peace offering. His sons brought him the blood, and he
sprinkled it on all sides of the altar.
And they
warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they
slew all the males.

waged war against
Midian, as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they killed every male.
And they
slew the kings of
Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of
Midian:
Balaam also the son of Beor they
slew with the sword.
Among the slain were Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba—the five kings of
Midian. They also killed
Balaam son of Beor with the sword.
And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the
ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and
slew the men of
Ai.
When Joshua and all Israel saw that the men in
ambush had captured the city and that smoke was rising from it, they turned around and struck down the men of
Ai.
And so did he unto them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, that they slew them not.
So Joshua did this and delivered them from the hands of the Israelites, and they did not kill the Gibeonites.
And the LORD
discomfited them before Israel, and
slew them with a great slaughter at
Gibeon, and
chased them along the way that goeth up to Beth-horon, and
smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.
And the LORD threw them into confusion before Israel, who defeated them in a great slaughter at
Gibeon, pursued them along the
ascent to Beth-horon, and struck them down as far as Azekah and Makkedah.
And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Beth-horon, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.
As they fled before Israel along the descent from Beth-horon to Azekah, the LORD cast down on them large hailstones from the sky, and more of them were killed by the hailstones than by the swords of the Israelites.
And afterward Joshua
smote them, and
slew them, and
hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.

Even from the mount Halak, that goeth up to
Seir, even unto
Baal-
gad in the valley of
Lebanon under mount
Hermon: and all their kings he took, and
smote them, and
slew them.
from Mount Halak, which rises toward
Seir, as far as
Baal-
gad in the Valley of
Lebanon at the foot of Mount
Hermon. He captured all their kings and struck them down, putting them to death.
And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the
Canaanites and the
Perizzites into their hand: and they
slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
When Judah attacked, the LORD delivered the
Canaanites and
Perizzites into their hands, and they struck down ten thousand men at Bezek.
And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they
slew the
Canaanites and the
Perizzites.
And there they found Adoni-bezek and fought against him, striking down the
Canaanites and
Perizzites.
And Judah went against the
Canaanites that dwelt in
Hebron: (now the name of
Hebron before was Kirjath-arba:) and they
slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
Judah also marched against the
Canaanites who were living in
Hebron (formerly known as Kiriath-arba), and they struck down Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.
And Judah went with
Simeon his brother, and they
slew the
Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
Then the men of Judah went with their brothers the Simeonites, attacked the
Canaanites living in Zephath, and devoted the city to destruction. So it was called Hormah.
And they
slew of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all
lusty, and all men of valour; and there escaped not a man.

And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which
slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox
goad: and he also delivered Israel.
After Ehud came Shamgar son of Anath. And he too saved Israel, striking down six hundred Philistines with an
oxgoad.
And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they
slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they
slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued
Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to
Gideon on the other side Jordan.
They also captured Oreb and Zeeb, the two princes of
Midian; and they killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb and Zeeb at the winepress of Zeeb. So they pursued the Midianites and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to
Gideon on the other side of the Jordan.
And he beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.
He also pulled down the tower of Penuel and killed the men of the city.
Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye
slew at
Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.
Next,
Gideon asked Zebah and Zalmunna, “What kind of men did you kill at
Tabor?” “Men like you,” they answered, “each one resembling the son of a king.”
Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And
Gideon arose, and
slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that were on their camels’ necks.
Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, “Get up and kill us
yourself, for as the man is, so is his strength.” So
Gideon got up and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and he took the
crescent ornaments from the necks of their camels.
And he went unto his father’s house at Ophrah, and
slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being
threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he
hid himself.
He went to his father’s house in Ophrah, and on one stone murdered his seventy brothers, the sons of Jerubbaal. But Jotham, the youngest son of Jerubbaal, survived, because he
hid himself.
That the cruelty done to the
threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon
Abimelech their brother, which
slew them; and upon the men of
Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.
in order that the crime against the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might come to justice and their blood be
avenged on their brother
Abimelech and on the leaders of
Shechem, who had helped him murder his brothers.
And
Abimelech, and the company that was with him,
rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and the two other companies ran upon all the people that were in the fields, and
slew them.
Then
Abimelech and the companies with him
rushed forward and took their stand at the entrance of the city gate. The other two companies
rushed against all who were in the fields and struck them down.
And
Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and
slew the people that was therein, and beat down the city, and
sowed it with salt.
And all that day
Abimelech fought against the city until he had captured it and killed its people. Then he
demolished the city and
sowed it with salt.
Then he called
hastily unto the young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and
slay me, that men say not of me, A woman
slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.
He quickly called his
armor-bearer, saying, “Draw your sword and kill me, lest they say of me, ‘A woman killed him.’” So
Abimelech’s
armor-bearer ran his sword through him, and he died.
Then said they unto him, Say now
Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to
pronounce it right. Then they took him, and
slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
they told him, “Please say
Shibboleth.” If he said, “Sibboleth,” because he could not
pronounce it correctly, they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. So at that time 42,000 Ephraimites were killed.
And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and
slew thirty men of them, and took their
spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which
expounded the
riddle. And his anger was
kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.
Then the Spirit of the LORD came
mightily upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, killed thirty of their men, took their
apparel, and gave their clothes to those who had
solved the
riddle. And burning with anger,
Samson returned to his father’s house,
And he found a new
jawbone of an
ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and
slew a thousand men
therewith.
He found the fresh
jawbone of a
donkey, reached out his hand and took it, and struck down a thousand men.
And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.
And when the people saw him, they praised their god, saying: “Our god has delivered into our hands our enemy who destroyed our land and multiplied our dead.”
And
Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he
slew at his death were more than they which he
slew in his life.
Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines.” Then he pushed with all his might, and the temple fell on the lords and all the people in it. So in his death he killed more than he had killed in his life.
And they turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of
Rimmon: and they
gleaned of them in the
highways five thousand men; and pursued hard after them unto Gidom, and
slew two thousand men of them.
Then the Benjamites turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of
Rimmon, and Israel cut down 5,000 men on the roads. And they overtook them at Gidom and struck down 2,000 more.

slew a
bullock, and brought the child to

array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was

And it was so on the
morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and
slew the
Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.
The next day Saul organized the troops into three divisions, and during the morning watch they invaded the camp of the
Ammonites and slaughtered them, until the hottest part of the day. And the survivors were so scattered that no two of them were left together.
And
Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before
Jonathan; and his armourbearer
slew after him.
So
Jonathan climbed up on his hands and feet, with his
armor-bearer behind him. And the Philistines fell before
Jonathan, and his
armor-bearer followed and finished them off.
And the people
flew upon the
spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and
calves, and
slew them on the ground: and the people did eat them with the blood.
So they
rushed greedily to the
plunder, taking sheep, cattle, and
calves. They slaughtered them on the ground and
ate meat with the blood still in it.
And Saul said,
Disperse yourselves among the people, and say unto them, Bring me
hither every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and
slay them here, and eat; and sin not against the LORD in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and
slew them there.
Then he said, “Go among the troops and tell them, ‘Each man must bring me his ox or his sheep, slaughter them in this place, and then eat. Do not sin against the LORD by eating meat with the blood still in it.’” So that night
everyone brought his ox and slaughtered it there.
And I went out after him, and
smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his
beard, and
smote him, and
slew him.
I went after it, struck it down, and delivered the lamb from its mouth. If it reared up against me, I would
grab it by its fur, strike it down, and kill it.
Thy servant
slew both the lion and the bear: and this
uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath
defied the armies of the living God.
Your servant has killed lions and bears; this
uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, for he has
defied the armies of the living God.”
So David prevailed over the
Philistine with a
sling and with a stone, and
smote the
Philistine, and
slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
Thus David prevailed over the
Philistine with a
sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the
Philistine and killed him.
Therefore David ran, and stood upon the
Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the
sheath thereof, and
slew him, and cut off his head
therewith. And when the Philistines saw their
champion was dead, they fled.
David ran and stood over him. He
grabbed the
Philistine’s sword and pulled it from its
sheath and killed him; and he cut off his head with the sword. When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran.
Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king’s son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.
David and his men went out and killed two hundred Philistines. He brought their foreskins and presented them as payment in full to become the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave his daughter Michal to David in marriage.
For he did put his life in his hand, and
slew the
Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and
didst rejoice: wherefore then
wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to
slay David without a cause?
He took his life in his hands when he struck down the
Philistine, and the LORD worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it and
rejoiced, so why would you sin against innocent blood by killing David for no reason?”
And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.
When war broke out again, David went out and fought the Philistines and struck them with such a mighty blow that they fled before him.
And the priest said, The sword of
Goliath the
Philistine, whom thou
slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here
wrapped in a cloth behind the
ephod: if thou
wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.
The priest replied, “The sword of
Goliath the
Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here; it is
wrapped in a cloth behind the
ephod. If you want, you may take it. For there is no other but this one.” And David said, “There is none like it; give it to me.”
And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the
Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and
slew on that day
fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen
ephod.
So the king ordered Doeg, “You turn and strike down the priests!” And Doeg the
Edomite turned and struck down the priests himself. On that day he killed eighty-five men who
wore the linen
ephod.
Is not this David, of whom they
sang one to another in dances, saying, Saul
slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands?
Is this not the David about whom they sing in their dances: ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands’?”
And had taken the women
captives, that were therein: they
slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.
They had taken
captive the women and all who were there, both young and old. They had not killed
anyone, but had carried them off as they went on their way.
And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines
slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Melchi-shua, Saul’s sons.
The Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons, and they killed Saul’s sons
Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua.
So I stood upon him, and
slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the
bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them
hither unto my lord.
So I stood over him and killed him, because I knew that after he had fallen he could not
survive. And I took the crown that was on his head and the band that was on his arm, and I have brought them here to my lord.”
For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his
bedchamber, and they
smote him, and
slew him, and
beheaded him, and took his head, and
gat them away through the plain all night.
They had entered the house while
Ish-bosheth was lying on his bed, and having
stabbed and killed him, they
beheaded him, took his head, and traveled all night by way of the Arabah.
When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good
tidings, I took hold of him, and
slew him in
Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his
tidings:
when someone told me, ‘Look, Saul is dead,’ and thought he was a bearer of good news, I seized him and put him to death at
Ziklag. That was his reward for his news!
And David commanded his young men, and they
slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and
hanged them up over the
pool in
Hebron. But they took the head of
Ish-bosheth, and buried it in the
sepulchre of
Abner in
Hebron.
So David commanded his young men, and they killed Rechab and Baanah. They cut off their hands and feet and hung their bodies by the
pool in
Hebron, but they took the head of
Ish-bosheth and buried it in
Abner’s tomb in
Hebron.
And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.
When the Arameans of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand men.
And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David
slew the men of seven hundred
chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand
horsemen, and
smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there.
But the Arameans fled before Israel, and David killed seven hundred charioteers and forty thousand foot soldiers. He also struck down Shobach the commander of their army, who died there.
And thy
handmaid had two sons, and they two
strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one
smote the other, and
slew him.
And your
maidservant had two sons who were fighting in the field with no one to separate them, and one struck the other and killed him.
And, behold, the whole family is risen against thine
handmaid, and they said, Deliver him that
smote his brother, that we may kill him, for the life of his brother whom he
slew; and we will destroy the heir also: and so they shall
quench my coal which is left, and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth.
Now the whole clan has risen up against your
maidservant and said, ‘Hand over the one who struck down his brother, that we may put him to death for the life of the brother whom he killed. Then we will cut off the heir as well!’ So they would
extinguish my one remaining
ember by not preserving my husband’s name or
posterity on the earth.”
And ten young men that bare
Joab’s armour compassed about and
smote Absalom, and
slew him.
And ten young men who carried
Joab’s
armor surrounded
Absalom, struck him, and killed him.
Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his
bloody house, because he
slew the Gibeonites.
During the reign of David there was a famine for three successive years, and David sought the face of the LORD. And the LORD said, “It is because of the blood shed by Saul and his family, because he killed the Gibeonites.”
And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at
Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite
slew Saph, which was of the sons of the
giant.
Some time later at
Gob, there was another battle with the Philistines. At that time Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, one of the descendants of Rapha.
And there was again a battle in
Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, a
Bethlehemite,
slew the brother of
Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose
spear was like a
weaver’s beam.
Once again there was a battle with the Philistines at
Gob, and Elhanan son of
Jair the
Bethlehemite killed the brother of
Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose
spear was like a
weaver’s beam.
And when he
defied Israel,
Jonathan the son of Shimeah the brother of David
slew him.
and when he
taunted Israel,
Jonathan the son of David’s brother Shimei killed him.
These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his
spear against eight hundred, whom he
slew at one time.
These are the names of David’s mighty men: Josheb-basshebeth the Tahchemonite was chief of the Three. He
wielded his
spear against eight hundred men, whom he killed at one time.
But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory.
But Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field, defended it, and struck down the Philistines. So the LORD brought about a great victory.
And
Abishai, the brother of
Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his
spear against three hundred, and
slew them, and had the name among three.
Now
Abishai, the brother of
Joab and son of Zeruiah, was chief of the Three, and he lifted his
spear against three hundred men, killed them, and won a name along with the Three.
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a
valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he
slew two
lionlike men of Moab: he went down also and
slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow:
And Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a man of
valor from Kabzeel, a man of many exploits. He struck down two champions of Moab, and on a
snowy day he went down into a pit and killed a lion.
And he
slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a
spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and
plucked the
spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and
slew him with his own
spear.
He also killed an Egyptian, a huge man. Although the Egyptian had a
spear in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club,
snatched the
spear from his hand, and killed the Egyptian with his own
spear.
And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En-rogel, and called all his brethren the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah the king’s servants:
And Adonijah sacrificed sheep, oxen, and
fattened calves near the stone of Zoheleth, which is next to En-rogel. He invited all his royal brothers and all the men of Judah who were servants of the king.
Moreover thou knowest also what
Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, unto
Abner the son of
Ner, and unto
Amasa the son of Jether, whom he
slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his
girdle that was about his loins, and in his
shoes that were on his feet.
Moreover, you know what
Joab son of Zeruiah did to me—what he did to
Abner son of
Ner and
Amasa son of Jether, the two commanders of the armies of Israel. He killed them in peacetime to
avenge the blood of war. He
stained with the blood of war the belt around his
waist and the
sandals on his feet.
And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and
slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing thereof, to wit,
Abner the son of
Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and
Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.
The LORD will bring his
bloodshed back upon his own head, for without the knowledge of my father David he struck down two men more righteous and better than he when he put to the sword
Abner son of
