The mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.
The warriors of Babylon have stopped fighting; they sit in their strongholds. Their
strength is exhausted; they have become like women. Babylon’s homes have been set
ablaze, the bars of her gates are broken.
And I will
punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath
swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him:
yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.
I will
punish Bel in Babylon. I will make him
spew out what he
swallowed. The nations will no longer
stream to him; even the wall of Babylon will fall.
Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should
fortify the height of her
strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD.
Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens and fortifies her lofty
stronghold, the destroyers I send will come against her,” declares the LORD.
And from the daughter of
Zion all her beauty is departed: her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, and they are gone without
strength before the pursuer.
All the
splendor has departed from the Daughter of
Zion. Her princes are like deer that find no pasture; they lack the
strength to
flee in the face of the hunter.
The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand: they are
wreathed, and come up upon my neck: he hath made my
strength to fall, the Lord hath delivered me into their hands, from whom I am not able to rise up.
My transgressions are bound into a yoke,
knit together by His hand; they are
draped over my neck, and the Lord has broken my
strength. He has delivered me into the hands of those I cannot
withstand.
Zion spreadeth forth her hands, and there is none to comfort her: the LORD hath commanded concerning Jacob, that his
adversaries should be round about him: Jerusalem is as a
menstruous woman among them.
Zion stretches out her hands, but there is no one to comfort her. The LORD has decreed against Jacob that his neighbors become his foes. Jerusalem has become an unclean thing among them.
The LORD hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of
Zion: he hath
stretched out a line, he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying: therefore he made the
rampart and the wall to
lament; they
languished together.
The LORD determined to destroy the wall of the Daughter of
Zion. He
stretched out a measuring line and did not withdraw His hand from destroying. He made the ramparts and walls
lament; together they waste away.
Mine eyes do fail with tears, my
bowels are troubled, my liver is poured upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people; because the children and the sucklings
swoon in the
streets of the city.
My eyes fail from
weeping; I am
churning within. My heart is poured out in grief over the destruction of the daughter of my people, because children and infants
faint in the
streets of the city.
They say to their mothers, Where is corn and wine? when they
swooned as the wounded in the
streets of the city, when their soul was poured out into their mothers’
bosom.
They cry out to their mothers: “Where is the grain and wine?” as they
faint like the wounded in the
streets of the city, as their lives
fade away in the arms of their mothers.
Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that
faint for hunger in the top of every
street.
Arise, cry out in the night from the first watch of the night. Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your children who are
fainting from hunger on the corner of every
street.
The young and the old lie on the ground in the
streets: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword; thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast killed, and not
pitied.
Both young and old lie together in the dust of the
streets. My young men and maidens have fallen by the sword. You have slain them in the day of Your anger; You have slaughtered them without
compassion.
And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD:
So I say, “My strength has perished, along with my hope from the LORD.”
Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
Streams of tears flow from my eyes over the destruction of the daughter of my people.
How is the gold become
dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every
street.
How the gold has become
tarnished, the pure gold has become dull! The
gems of the temple lie scattered on every
street corner.
They that did feed delicately are
desolate in the
streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.
Their
visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the
streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is
withered, it is become like a stick.
But now their appearance is blacker than
soot; they are not recognized in the
streets. Their skin has
shriveled on their bones; it has become as dry as a stick.
They have
wandered as blind men in the
streets, they have
polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments.
They
wandered blind in the
streets,
defiled by this blood, so that no one
dared to touch their garments.
They
hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our
streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.
They
stalked our every step, so that we could not walk in our
streets. Our end drew near, our time ran out, for our end had come!
Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies.
Such were their faces. Their wings were spread upward; each had two wings touching the wings of the creature on either side, and two wings covering its body.
And the likeness of the
firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal,
stretched forth over their heads above.
Spread out above the heads of the living creatures was the likeness of an
awesome expanse,
gleaming like crystal.
And under the
firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.
And under the
expanse, their wings
stretched out toward one another. Each one also had two wings covering its body.
So will I
stretch out my hand upon them, and make the land
desolate,
yea, more
desolate than the wilderness toward Diblath, in all their habitations: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
I will
stretch out My hand against them, and wherever they live I will make the land a
desolate waste, from the wilderness to Diblah. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
For the seller shall not return to that which is sold, although they were yet alive: for the vision is touching the whole multitude thereof, which shall not return; neither shall any
strengthen himself in the iniquity of his life.
The seller will surely not recover what he sold while both remain alive. For the vision concerning the whole multitude will not be
revoked, and because of their iniquity, not one of them will preserve his life.
They shall cast their silver in the
streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their
bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.
They will throw their silver into the
streets, and their gold will seem unclean. Their silver and gold cannot save them in the day of the wrath of the LORD. They cannot satisfy their appetites or fill their stomachs with wealth, for it became the
stumbling block that brought their iniquity.
And he put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a
lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy.
He
stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. Then the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and carried me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the
idol that provokes jealousy was seated.
And one
cherub stretched forth his hand from between the cherubims unto the fire that was between the cherubims, and took thereof, and put it into the hands of him that was clothed with linen: who took it, and went out.
Then one of the
cherubim reached out his hand and took some of the fire that was among them. And he put it into the hands of the man clothed in linen, who received it and went out.
Ye have multiplied your slain in this city, and ye have filled the streets thereof with the slain.
You have multiplied those you killed in this city and filled its streets with the dead.
Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous
sad, whom I have not made
sad; and
strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:
Because you have
disheartened the righteous with your lies, even though I have caused them no grief, and because you have encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways to save their lives,
And if the prophet be
deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have
deceived that prophet, and I will
stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
But if the prophet is
enticed to speak a message, then it was I the LORD who
enticed him, and I will
stretch out My hand against him and destroy him from among My people Israel.
Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by
trespassing grievously, then will I
stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:
“Son of man, if a land sins against Me by acting unfaithfully, and I stretch out My hand against it to cut off its supply of food, to send famine upon it, and to cut off from it both man and beast,
That thou hast also built unto thee an eminent place, and hast made thee an high place in every street.
Thou hast built thy high place at every head of the way, and hast made thy beauty to be
abhorred, and hast opened thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredoms.
At the head of every
street you built your lofty shrines and
degraded your beauty. With increasing
promiscuity, you spread your legs to all who passed by.
Behold, therefore I have
stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary food, and delivered thee unto the will of them that
hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are
ashamed of thy
lewd way.
Therefore I
stretched out My hand against you and reduced your portion. I gave you over to the desire of those who
hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who were
ashamed of your
lewd conduct.
In that thou buildest thine eminent place in the head of every way, and makest thine high place in every
street; and hast not been as an
harlot, in that thou scornest
hire;
But when you built your mounds at the head of every
street and made your lofty shrines in every public square, you were not even like a
prostitute, because you
scorned payment.
Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister
Sodom, pride,
fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she
strengthen the hand of the poor and
needy.
Now this was the iniquity of your sister
Sodom: She and her daughters were
arrogant, overfed, and
complacent; they did not help the poor and
needy.
There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her
plantation.
But there was another great eagle with great wings and many feathers. And behold, this vine bent its roots toward him. It stretched out its branches to him from its planting bed, so that he might water it.
As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a
stretched out arm, and with
fury poured out, will I rule over you:
As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, with a strong hand, an outstretched arm, and outpoured wrath I will rule over you.
And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a
stretched out arm, and with
fury poured out.
With a strong hand, an outstretched arm, and outpoured wrath I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you from the lands to which you have been scattered.
Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will
profane my sanctuary, the
excellency of your
strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall fall by the sword.
Tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I am about to
desecrate My sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and the delight of your soul. And the sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.’
Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their
strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that
whereupon they set their minds, their sons and their daughters,
And you, son of man, know that on the day I take away their
stronghold, their pride and joy—the desire of their eyes which
uplifted their souls—and their sons and daughters as well,
Behold, therefore I will
stretch out mine hand upon thee, and will deliver thee for a
spoil to the heathen; and I will cut thee off from the people, and I will cause thee to perish out of the countries: I will destroy thee; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.
therefore I will indeed
stretch out My hand against you and give you as
plunder to the nations. I will cut you off from the peoples and
exterminate you from the countries. I will destroy you, and you will know that I am the LORD.’
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also
stretch out mine hand upon
Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it
desolate from Teman; and they of Dedan shall fall by the sword.
therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I will
stretch out My hand against
Edom and cut off from it both man and beast. I will make it a wasteland, and from Teman to Dedan they will fall by the sword.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will
stretch out mine hand upon the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethims, and destroy the
remnant of the sea coast.
therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I will
stretch out My hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites and destroy the
remnant along the coast.
With the
hoofs of his horses shall he
tread down all thy
streets: he shall
slay thy people by the sword, and thy strong garrisons shall go down to the ground.
The
hooves of his horses will
trample all your
streets. He will slaughter your people with the sword, and your mighty pillars will fall to the ground.
For I will send into her
pestilence, and blood into her
street; and the wounded shall be judged in the midst of her by the sword upon her on every side; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
I will send a plague against her and shed blood in her streets; the slain will fall within her, while the sword is against her on every side. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
But I will put hooks in thy jaws, and I will cause the fish of thy rivers to stick unto thy scales, and I will bring thee up out of the midst of thy rivers, and all the fish of thy rivers shall stick unto thy scales.
But I will put hooks in your jaws and cause the fish of your
streams to
cling to your scales. I will
haul you up out of your rivers, and all the fish of your
streams will
cling to your scales.
And I will leave thee thrown into the wilderness, thee and all the fish of thy rivers: thou shalt fall upon the open fields; thou shalt not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given thee for meat to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven.
I will leave you in the desert, you and all the fish of your streams. You will fall on the open field and will not be taken away or gathered for burial. I have given you as food to the beasts of the earth and the birds of the air.
Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyrus: every head was made
bald, and every shoulder was
peeled: yet had he no wages, nor his army, for Tyrus, for the service that he had served against it:
“Son of man,
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon caused his army to labor
strenuously against Tyre. Every head was made
bald and every shoulder made raw. But he and his army received no wages from Tyre for the labor they expended on it.
Thus saith the LORD; They also that
uphold Egypt shall fall; and the pride of her power shall come down: from the tower of
Syene shall they fall in it by the sword, saith the Lord GOD.
For this is what the LORD says: The allies of Egypt will fall, and her proud
strength will
collapse. From
Migdol to
Syene they will fall by the sword within her, declares the Lord GOD.
And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: and I will make the land waste, and all that is therein, by the hand of strangers: I the LORD have spoken it.
I will make the
streams dry up and sell the land to the wicked. By the hands of foreigners I will bring
desolation upon the land and everything in it. I, the LORD, have spoken.
And I will pour my
fury upon Sin, the
strength of Egypt; and I will cut off the multitude of No.
At Tehaphnehes also the day shall be
darkened, when I shall break there the yokes of Egypt: and the
pomp of her
strength shall cease in her: as for her, a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall go into captivity.
The day will be
darkened in Tahpanhes when I break the yoke of Egypt and her proud
strength comes to an end. A cloud will cover her, and her daughters will go into captivity.
Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and, lo, it shall not be bound up to be
healed, to put a roller to bind it, to make it strong to hold the sword.
“Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. See, it has not been bound up for
healing, or
splinted for
strength to hold the sword.
And I will
strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put my sword in his hand: but I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he shall
groan before him with the groanings of a deadly wounded man.
I will
strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king and place My sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, who will
groan before him like a
mortally wounded man.
But I will
strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall
stretch it out upon the land of Egypt.
I will
strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king, but Pharaoh’s arms will fall
limp. Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I place My sword in the hand of Babylon’s king, and he wields it against the land of Egypt.
The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.
The waters made it grow; the deep springs made it tall, directing their streams all around its base and sending their channels to all the trees of the field.
Son of man, take up a
lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou art as a
whale in the seas: and thou camest forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers.
“Son of man, take up a
lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him: ‘You are like a lion among the nations; you are like a
monster in the seas. You
thrash about in your rivers,
churning up the waters with your feet and
muddying the
streams.’
For I will lay the land most
desolate, and the
pomp of her
strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be
desolate, that none shall pass through.
I will make the land a
desolate waste, and the pride of her
strength will come to an end. The mountains of Israel will become
desolate, so that no one will pass through.
The diseased have ye not
strengthened, neither have ye
healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.
You have not
strengthened the weak,
healed the sick, bound up the injured, brought back the strays, or searched for the lost. Instead, you have ruled them with violence and cruelty.
I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will
strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.
I will seek the lost, bring back the strays, bind up the broken, and
strengthen the weak; but the
sleek and strong I will destroy. I will
shepherd them with justice.’
And say unto it, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O mount
Seir, I am against thee, and I will
stretch out mine hand against thee, and I will make thee most
desolate.
and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O Mount
Seir. I will
stretch out My hand against you and make you a
desolate waste.
Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
You, O king, are the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given sovereignty, power, strength, and glory.
And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the
strength of the iron,
forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with
miry clay.
And just as you saw that the feet and toes were made partly of fired clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom, yet some of the strength of iron will be in it—just as you saw the iron mixed with clay.
A
fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
A river of fire was flowing, coming out from His presence. Thousands upon thousands attended Him, and myriads upon myriads stood before Him. The court was
convened, and the books were opened.
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the
Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and
threescore and two weeks: the
street shall be built again, and the wall, even in
troublous times.
Know and understand this: From the
issuance of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, until the
Messiah, the Prince, there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. It will be rebuilt with
streets and a
trench, but in times of distress.
Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no
strength in me: for my
comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no
strength.
So I was left alone,
gazing at this great vision. No
strength remained in me; my face grew deathly pale, and I was powerless.
And, behold, one like the
similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no
strength.
And suddenly one with the likeness of a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth and said to the one standing before me, “My lord, because of the vision, I am overcome with
anguish, and I have no
strength.
For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me,
straightway there remained no
strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.
How can I, your servant, speak with you, my lord? Now I have no strength, nor is any breath left in me.”
Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me,
Again the one with the likeness of a man touched me and strengthened me.
And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong,
yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was
strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast
strengthened me.
“Do not be afraid, you who are highly precious,” he said. “Peace be with you! Be strong now; be very strong!” As he spoke with me, I was strengthened and said, “Speak, my lord, for you have strengthened me.”
And now will I
shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his
strength through his riches he shall
stir up all against the realm of
Grecia.
Now then, I will tell you the truth: Three more kings will arise in Persia, and then a fourth, who will be far richer than all the others. By the power of his wealth, he will
stir up
everyone against the kingdom of Greece.
And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king’s daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that
begat her, and he that
strengthened her in these times.
After some years they will form an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the South will go to the king of the North to seal the agreement. But his daughter will not retain her position of power, nor will his
strength endure. At that time she will be given up, along with her royal
escort and her father and the one who supported her.
And when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up; and he shall cast down many ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened by it.
When the army is carried off, the king of the South will be proud in heart and will cast down tens of thousands, but he will not triumph.
So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mount, and take the most
fenced cities: and the arms of the south shall not
withstand, neither his chosen people, neither shall there be any
strength to
withstand.
Then the king of the North will come, build up a siege
ramp, and capture a fortified city. The forces of the South will not stand; even their best troops will not be able to resist.
He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his side, neither be for him.
He will
resolve to come with the
strength of his whole kingdom, and will reach an agreement with the king of the South. He will give him a daughter in marriage in order to overthrow the kingdom, but his plan will not succeed or help him.
And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall
pollute the sanctuary of
strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the
abomination that maketh
desolate.
He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
He will extend his power over many countries, and not even the land of Egypt will escape.
When I would have
healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit
falsehood; and the
thief cometh in, and the
troop of robbers spoileth without.
When I
heal Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim will be exposed, as well as the crimes of Samaria. For they practice
deceit and
thieves break in;
bandits raid in the
streets.
In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.
The princes are inflamed with wine on the day of our king; so he joins hands with those who
mock him.
Strangers have
devoured his
strength, and he knoweth it not:
yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not.
Foreigners
consume his
strength, but he does not notice. Even his hair is
streaked with gray, but he does not know.
Though I have bound and strengthened their arms, yet do they imagine mischief against me.
Although I trained and strengthened their arms, they plot evil against Me.
He took his brother by the
heel in the
womb, and by his
strength he had power with God:
The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath
devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
Even the beasts of the field
pant for You, for the
streams of water have dried up, and fire has consumed the open pastures.
Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.
Do not be afraid, O beasts of the field, for the open pastures have turned green, the trees bear their fruit, and the fig tree and vine yield their best.
The LORD also shall
roar out of
Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall
shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the
strength of the children of Israel.
The LORD will
roar from
Zion and raise His voice from Jerusalem; heaven and earth will
tremble. But the LORD will be a refuge for His people, a
stronghold for the people of Israel.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of
Shittim.
And in that day the mountains will
drip with sweet wine, and the hills will flow with milk. All the
streams of Judah will run with water, and a spring will flow from the house of the LORD to water the Valley of
Acacias.
Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not
strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself:
Escape will fail the swift, the strong will not prevail by his strength, and the mighty will not save his life.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; An
adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy
strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be
spoiled.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: “An enemy will
surround the land; he will pull down your strongholds and
plunder your citadels.”
That
strengtheneth the
spoiled against the strong, so that the
spoiled shall come against the fortress.
Therefore this is what the LORD, the God of Hosts, the Lord, says: “There will be
wailing in all the public squares and
cries of ‘
Alas!
Alas!’ in all the
streets. The farmer will be summoned to
mourn, and the mourners to
wail.
But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
But let justice roll on like a river, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
That lie upon beds of ivory, and
stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the
calves out of the midst of the
stall;
You lie on beds inlaid with ivory, and
lounge upon your couches. You
dine on lambs from the flock and
calves from the
stall.
Therefore now shall they go
captive with the first that go
captive, and the
banquet of them that
stretched themselves shall be removed.
Therefore, you will now go into exile as the first of the
captives, and your feasting and
lounging will come to an end.
Ye which
rejoice in a thing of
nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own
strength?
you who
rejoice in Lo-
debar and say, ‘Did we not take Karnaim by our own
strength?’
And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.
“In that day,” declares the Lord GOD, “the songs of the temple will turn to
wailing. Many will be the corpses,
strewn in silence everywhere!”
But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be
exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
In the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established as the chief of the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and the peoples will stream to it.
And he shall stand and feed in the
strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall
abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
He will stand and
shepherd His flock in the
strength of the LORD, in the
majestic name of the LORD His God. And they will dwell securely, for then His greatness will extend to the ends of the earth.
Then she that is mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her which said unto me, Where is the LORD thy God? mine eyes shall behold her: now shall she be
trodden down as the
mire of the
streets.
Then my enemy will see and will be covered with shame— she who said to me, “Where is the LORD your God?” My eyes will see her; at that time she will be
trampled like mud in the
streets.
He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the
munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong,
fortify thy power
mightily.
