Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me.
Or let them lay claim to My protection; let them make peace with Me—
yes, let them make peace with Me.”
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel.
In that day the LORD will
thresh from the flowing Euphrates to the Wadi of Egypt, and you, O Israelites, will be gathered one by one.
And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.
a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, and a
strength to those who
repel the
onslaught at the gate.
For the bed is shorter than that a man can
stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can
wrap himself in it.
Indeed, the bed is too short to
stretch out on, and the
blanket too small to
wrap around you.
That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to
strengthen themselves in the
strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt!
They set out to go down to Egypt without asking My advice, to seek shelter under Pharaoh’s protection and take refuge in Egypt’s shade.
Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.
But Pharaoh’s protection will become your shame, and the refuge of Egypt’s shade your disgrace.
For the Egyptians shall help in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I
cried concerning this, Their
strength is to sit still.
Egypt’s help is
futile and empty; therefore I have called her
Rahab Who Sits Still.
For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.
For the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, has said: “By
repentance and rest you would be saved; your
strength would lie in quiet confidence— but you were not willing.”
And there shall be upon every high mountain, and upon every high hill, rivers and streams of waters in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.
And from every high mountain and every raised hill, streams of water will flow in the day of great slaughter, when the towers fall.
And his breath, as an overflowing
stream, shall reach to the midst of the neck, to
sift the nations with the
sieve of vanity: and there shall be a
bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to
err.
His breath is like a
rushing torrent that rises to the neck. He comes to
sift the nations in a
sieve of destruction; He bridles the jaws of the peoples to lead them
astray.
For
Tophet is ordained of old;
yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a
stream of
brimstone,
doth kindle it.
For Topheth has long been prepared; it has been made ready for the king. Its funeral
pyre is deep and wide, with
plenty of fire and wood. The breath of the LORD, like a
torrent of burning sulfur, sets it
ablaze.
Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall
stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is
holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.
But the Egyptians are men, not God; their horses are flesh, not spirit. When the LORD
stretches out His hand, the helper will
stumble, and the one he helps will fall; both will perish together.
And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a
covert from the
tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a
weary land.
Each will be like a shelter from the wind, a refuge from the storm, like
streams of water in a dry land, like the shadow of a great rock in an
arid land.
O LORD, be
gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.
O LORD, be
gracious to us! We wait for You. Be our
strength every morning and our salvation in time of trouble.
And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and
strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his
treasure.
He will be the sure foundation for your times, a
storehouse of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the LORD is
Zion’s
treasure.
Behold, their
valiant ones shall cry without: the ambassadors of peace shall
weep bitterly.
Behold, their
valiant ones cry
aloud in the
streets; the envoys of peace
weep bitterly.
Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off.
Your eyes will see the King in His beauty and behold a land that
stretches afar.
But there the glorious LORD will be unto us a place of broad rivers and
streams; wherein shall go no
galley with oars, neither shall
gallant ship pass thereby.
But there the
Majestic One, our LORD, will be for us a place of rivers and wide canals, where no
galley with oars will row, and no
majestic vessel will pass.
Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well
strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great
spoil divided; the
lame take the prey.
Your ropes are
slack; they cannot secure the mast or spread the sail. Then an abundance of spoils will be divided, and even the
lame will carry off
plunder.
And the
streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into
brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.
Edom’s
streams will be turned to tar, and her soil to sulfur; her land will become a
blazing pitch.
But the
cormorant and the
bittern shall possess it; the
owl also and the
raven shall dwell in it: and he shall
stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of
emptiness.
The desert
owl and
screech owl will possess it, and the great
owl and
raven will dwell in it. The LORD will
stretch out over
Edom a measuring line of
chaos and a
plumb line of destruction.
Then shall the
lame man
leap as an
hart, and the tongue of the
dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and
streams in the desert.
Then the
lame will
leap like a deer and the
mute tongue will
shout for joy. For waters will
gush forth in the wilderness, and
streams in the desert.
I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and
strength for war: now on whom
dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
You claim to have a
strategy and
strength for war, but these are empty words. In whom are you now trusting, that you have rebelled against me?
And they said unto him, Thus saith
Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of
rebuke, and of
blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not
strength to bring forth.
to tell him, “This is what
Hezekiah says:
Today is a day of distress,
rebuke, and disgrace; for children have come to the point of birth, but there is no
strength to deliver them.
I have
digged, and
drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of the besieged places.
I have
dug wells and
drunk foreign waters. With the soles of my feet I have dried up all the
streams of Egypt.”
O
Zion, that bringest good
tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good
tidings, lift up thy voice with
strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
Go up on a high mountain, O
Zion,
herald of good news. Raise your voice loudly, O Jerusalem,
herald of good news. Lift it up, do not be afraid! Say to the cities of Judah, “Here is your God!”
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that
stretcheth out the heavens as a
curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth; its dwellers are like grasshoppers. He
stretches out the heavens like a
curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
Lift up your eyes on high: Who created all these? He leads forth the
starry host by number; He calls each one by name. Because of His great power and mighty
strength, not one of them is missing.
He giveth power to the
faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth
strength.
He gives power to the
faint and increases the
strength of the weak.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their
strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be
weary; and they shall walk, and not
faint.
But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their
strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow
weary, they will walk and not
faint.
Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment.
“Be silent before Me, O islands, and let the peoples renew their
strength. Let them come forward and
testify; let us together draw near for judgment.
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will
strengthen thee;
yea, I will help thee;
yea, I will
uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will
strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will
uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.
He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
He will not cry out or raise His voice, nor make His voice heard in the streets.
Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
This is what God the LORD says— He who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its offspring, who gives breath to the people on it and life to those who walk in it:
Therefore he hath poured upon him the
fury of his anger, and the
strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
So He poured out on them His
furious anger and the fierceness of battle. It
enveloped them in flames, but they did not understand; it consumed them, but they did not take it to heart.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Behold, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness and streams in the desert.
And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
They will
sprout among the grass like willows by flowing
streams.
The smith with the
tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the
strength of his arms:
yea, he is
hungry, and his
strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is
faint.
The
blacksmith takes a tool and labors over the coals; he fashions an
idol with hammers and forges it with his strong arms. Yet he grows
hungry and loses his
strength; he fails to drink water and grows
faint.
The
carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.
The woodworker extends a measuring line; he marks it out with a
stylus; he shapes it with chisels and outlines it with a compass. He fashions it in the likeness of man, like man in all his glory, that it may dwell in a
shrine.
He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the
cypress and the oak, which he
strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain
doth nourish it.
He cuts down cedars or retrieves a
cypress or oak. He lets it grow strong among the trees of the forest. He plants a
laurel, and the rain makes it grow.
Thus saith the LORD, thy
redeemer, and he that formed thee from the
womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that
stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;
Thus says the LORD, your
Redeemer who formed you from the
womb: “I am the LORD, who has made all things, who alone
stretched out the heavens, who by Myself spread out the earth,
I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.
It is I who made the earth and created man upon it. It was My hands that stretched out the heavens, and I ordained all their host.
Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and
strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be
ashamed.
Surely they will say of Me, ‘In the LORD alone are righteousness and
strength.’” All who
rage against Him will come to Him and be put to shame.
Take the millstones, and
grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the
thigh, pass over the rivers.
Take millstones and
grind flour; remove your
veil; strip off your
skirt, bare your
thigh, and
wade through the
streams.
Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my
strength for
nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the LORD, and my work with my God.
But I said, “I have labored in vain, I have spent My
strength in
futility and vanity; yet My
vindication is with the LORD, and My reward is with My God.”
And now, saith the LORD that formed me from the
womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my
strength.
And now says the LORD, who formed Me from the
womb to be His Servant, to bring Jacob back to Him, that Israel might be gathered to Him— for I am honored in the sight of the LORD, and My God is My
strength—
Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand
shortened at all, that it cannot
redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my
rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for
thirst.
Why was no one there when I arrived? Why did no one answer when I called? Is My hand too short to
redeem you? Or do I lack the
strength to deliver you? Behold, My
rebuke dries up the sea; I turn the rivers into a desert; the fish
rot for lack of water and die of
thirst.
Awake,
awake, put on
strength, O arm of the LORD;
awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut
Rahab, and wounded the
dragon?
Awake,
awake, put on
strength, O arm of the LORD.
Wake up as in days past, as in generations of old. Was it not You who cut
Rahab to pieces, who pierced through the
dragon?
And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath
stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the
fury of the
oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the
fury of the
oppressor?
But you have forgotten the LORD, your Maker, who
stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth. You live in terror all day long because of the
fury of the
oppressor who is bent on destruction. But where is the
fury of the
oppressor?
Thy sons have
fainted, they lie at the head of all the
streets, as a wild bull in a net: they are full of the
fury of the LORD, the
rebuke of thy God.
Your sons have
fainted; they lie at the head of every
street, like an
antelope in a net. They are full of the wrath of the LORD, the
rebuke of your God.
But I will put it into the hand of them that
afflict thee; which have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body as the ground, and as the
street, to them that went over.
I will place it in the hands of your tormentors, who told you: ‘Lie down, so we can walk over you,’ so that you made your back like the ground, like a street to be traversed.”
Awake,
awake; put on thy
strength, O
Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the
uncircumcised and the unclean.
Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them
stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations:
spare not,
lengthen thy cords, and
strengthen thy stakes;
“
Enlarge the site of your tent,
stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, do not hold back.
Lengthen your ropes and drive your stakes in deep.
Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these?
Your portion is among the smooth stones of the valley; indeed, they are your lot. Even to them you have poured out a drink offering and offered a grain offering. Should I relent because of these?
Thou art
wearied in the greatness of thy way; yet saidst thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thine hand; therefore thou
wast not
grieved.
You are
wearied by your many journeys, but you did not say, “There is no hope!” You found
renewal of your
strength; therefore you did not grow weak.
And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in
drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
The LORD will always guide you; He will satisfy you in a sun-
scorched land and
strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins; you will restore the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of the Streets of Dwelling.
And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth
afar off: for truth is fallen in the
street, and
equity cannot enter.
So justice is turned away, and righteousness stands at a distance. For truth has
stumbled in the public square, and
honesty cannot enter.
The LORD hath
sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his
strength, Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured:
The LORD has
sworn by His right hand and by His mighty arm: “Never again will I give your grain to your enemies for food, nor will foreigners drink the new wine for which you have
toiled.
Who is this that cometh from
Edom, with
dyed garments from
Bozrah? this that is glorious in his
apparel, travelling in the greatness of his
strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
And I will
tread down the people in mine anger, and make them
drunk in my
fury, and I will bring down their
strength to the earth.
I
trampled the nations in My anger; in My wrath I made them
drunk and poured out their blood on the ground.”
Look down from heaven, and behold from the
habitation of thy
holiness and of thy glory: where is thy zeal and thy
strength, the sounding of thy
bowels and of thy
mercies toward me? are they restrained?
Look down from heaven and see, from Your holy and glorious
habitation. Where are Your zeal and might? Your
yearning and
compassion for me are restrained.
For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing
stream: then shall ye
suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be
dandled upon her knees.
For this is what the LORD says: “I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flowing
stream; you will
nurse and be carried on her arm, and
bounced upon her knees.
For I have heard a voice as of a woman in
travail, and the
anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of
Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying,
Woe is me now! for my soul is
wearied because of murderers.
For I hear a cry like a woman in labor, a cry of
anguish like one bearing her first child— the cry of the Daughter of
Zion gasping for breath,
stretching out her hands to say, “
Woe is me, for my soul
faints before the murderers!”
Run ye to and
fro through the
streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will
pardon it.
“Go up and down the
streets of Jerusalem. Look now and take note; search her squares. If you can find a single person,
anyone who acts justly,
anyone who seeks the truth, then I will
forgive the city.
Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at
noon.
Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are
stretched out.
‘Prepare for battle against her; rise up, let us attack at
noon.
Woe to us, for the
daylight is
fading; the evening shadows grow long.
Therefore I am full of the
fury of the LORD; I am
weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.
But I am full of the LORD’s wrath; I am
tired of holding it back. “Pour it out on the children in the
street, and on the young men gathered together. For both husband and wife will be captured, the old and the very old alike.
And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
Their houses will be turned over to others, their fields and wives as well, for I will stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land,” declares the LORD.
Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the
streets of Jerusalem, the voice of
mirth, and the voice of
gladness, the voice of the
bridegroom, and the voice of the
bride: for the land shall be
desolate.
I will remove from the cities of Judah and the
streets of Jerusalem the sounds of joy and
gladness and the voices of the
bride and
bridegroom, for the land will become a wasteland.”
For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets.
For death has
climbed in through our windows; it has entered our fortresses to cut off the children from the
streets, the young men from the town squares.
Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise man
boast in his wisdom, nor the strong man in his
strength, nor the wealthy man in his riches.
He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath
stretched out the heavens by his
discretion.
The LORD made the earth by His power; He established the world by His wisdom and stretched out the heavens by His understanding.
My tabernacle is
spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to
stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
My tent is destroyed, and all its ropes are
snapped. My sons have departed from me and are no more. I have no one left to pitch my tent or set up my curtains.
Then the LORD said unto me,
Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the
streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.
Then the LORD said to me, “
Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the
streets of Jerusalem, saying: Hear the words of this covenant and carry them out.
For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the
streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto
Baal.
Your gods are indeed as numerous as your cities, O Judah; the altars of shame you have set up—the altars to burn incense to
Baal—are as many as the
streets of Jerusalem.’
And the people to whom they
prophesy shall be cast out in the
streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to
bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.
And the people to whom they
prophesy will be thrown into the
streets of Jerusalem because of famine and sword. There will be no one to
bury them or their wives, their sons or their daughters. I will pour out their own evil upon them.
Thou hast
forsaken me, saith the LORD, thou art gone backward: therefore will I
stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am
weary with
repenting.
You have
forsaken Me, declares the LORD. You have turned your back. So I will
stretch out My hand against you and I will destroy you; I am
weary of showing
compassion.
O LORD, my
strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of
affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.
O LORD, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in the day of distress, the nations will come to You from the ends of the earth, and they will say, “Our fathers inherited nothing but lies, worthless idols of no benefit at all.
Thus saith the LORD;
Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
This is what the LORD says: “
Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind, who makes the flesh his
strength and turns his heart from the LORD.
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of
drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
He is like a tree planted by the waters that sends out its roots toward the
stream. It does not fear when the heat comes, and its leaves are always green. It does not
worry in a year of
drought, nor does it cease to produce fruit.
Moreover I will deliver all the
strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall
spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.
I will give away all the wealth of this city—all its products and valuables, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah—to their enemies. They will
plunder them, seize them, and carry them off to Babylon.
I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an
horrible thing: they commit
adultery, and walk in lies: they
strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none
doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as
Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as
Gomorrah.
And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a
horrible thing: They commit
adultery and walk in lies. They
strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns his back on wickedness. They are all like
Sodom to Me; the people of Jerusalem are like
Gomorrah.”
They shall come with
weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not
stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my
firstborn.
They will come with
weeping, and by their
supplication I will lead them; I will make them walk beside
streams of waters, on a level path where they will not
stumble. For I am Israel’s Father, and Ephraim is My
firstborn.”
And the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it upon the hill Gareb, and shall compass about to Goath.
The measuring line will once again stretch out straight to the hill of Gareb and then turn toward Goah.
Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and
stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:
“Oh, Lord GOD! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!
And hast brought forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with great terror;
You brought Your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and wonders, with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and with great terror.
Thus saith the LORD; Again there shall be heard in this place, which ye say shall be
desolate without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the
streets of Jerusalem, that are
desolate, without man, and without inhabitant, and without beast,
This is what the LORD says: In this place you say is a wasteland without man or beast, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted—inhabited by neither man nor beast—there will be heard again
Then
Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers
street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
So King
Zedekiah gave orders for Jeremiah to be placed in the
courtyard of the guard and given a
loaf of bread daily from the
street of the bakers, until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in the
courtyard of the guard.
Wherefore my
fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was
kindled in the cities of Judah and in the
streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and
desolate, as at this day.
Therefore My wrath and anger poured out and burned in the cities of Judah and in the
streets of Jerusalem, so that they have become the
desolate ruin they are
today.
Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers and of the kings of Judah and their wives, as well as the wickedness that you and your wives committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
But we will certainly do
whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the
streets of Jerusalem: for then had we
plenty of
victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.
Instead, we will do everything we
vowed to do: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and offer drink offerings to her, just as we, our fathers, our kings, and our officials did in the cities of Judah and in the
streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had
plenty of food and good things, and we saw no
disaster.
The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his mind?
“As for the incense you burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem—you, your fathers, your kings, your officials, and the people of the land—did the LORD not remember and bring this to mind?
There shall be
lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the
streets thereof: for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein is no pleasure, saith the LORD.
On all the rooftops of Moab and in the public squares,
everyone is
mourning; for I have
shattered Moab like an unwanted
jar,” declares the LORD.
Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the LORD of hosts.
For her young men will fall in the streets, and all her warriors will be silenced in that day,” declares the LORD of Hosts.
Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the LORD.
Therefore, her young men will fall in the streets, and all her warriors will be silenced in that day,” declares the LORD.
Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are thrust through in her streets.
And they will fall slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and pierced through in her streets.
He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding.
The LORD made the earth by His power; He established the world by His wisdom and stretched out the heavens by His understanding.
Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.
“Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, you who
devastate the whole earth, declares the LORD. I will
stretch out My hand against you; I will roll you over the cliffs and turn you into a
charred mountain.
