womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy
bowels; and the one people shall be

stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”

Whenever the stronger females of the flock were in heat, Jacob would place the branches in the troughs, in full view of the animals, so that they would breed in front of the branches.
But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were
Laban’s, and the
stronger Jacob’s.
But if the animals were weak, he did not set out the branches. So the weaker animals went to
Laban and the
stronger ones to Jacob.
Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and
scatter them in Israel.

strong, and their wrath, for it is cruel! I will
disperse them in Jacob and
scatter them in Israel.
But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made
strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the
shepherd, the stone of Israel:)
Yet he
steadied his bow, and his
strong arms were tempered by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, in the name of the
Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,
Then the LORD said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.

And the LORD turned a mighty
strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one
locust in all the coasts of Egypt.

blew them into the Red Sea. Not a single
locust remained
anywhere in Egypt.

memorial between thine eyes, that the LORD’S law may be in thy mouth: for with a
strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt.

forehead that the Law of the LORD is to be on your lips. For with a mighty hand the LORD brought you out of Egypt.

mixt multitude that was among them fell a

wept and said, “Who will feed us meat?

Is the land where they live good or bad? Are the cities where they dwell open camps or fortifications?
Nevertheless the people be
strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of
Anak there.
Nevertheless, the people living in the land are
strong, and the cities are large and fortified. We even saw the descendants of
Anak there.

strong hand.

smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from
Arnon unto
Jabbok, even unto the children of
Ammon: for the border of the children of
Ammon was
strong.

Arnon to the
Jabbok—but only up to the border of the
Ammonites, because it was fortified.
And he looked on the

cliff.

hin for the one lamb: in the holy place shalt thou cause the
strong wine to be poured unto the LORD for a drink offering.
The drink offering accompanying each lamb shall be a quarter
hin. Pour out the offering of
fermented drink to the LORD in the sanctuary area.
From Aroer, which is by the
brink of the river of
Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto
Gilead, there was not one city too
strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:
From Aroer on the
rim of the
Arnon Valley, along with the city in the valley, even as far as
Gilead, not one city had walls too high for us. The LORD our God gave us all of them.
Or hath God
assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
Or has any god tried to take as his own a nation out of another nation—by trials, signs, wonders, and war, by a strong hand and an outstretched arm, and by great terrors—as the LORD your God did for you in Egypt, before your eyes?
When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land
whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the
Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the
Amorites, and the
Canaanites, and the
Perizzites, and the
Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess, and He drives out before you many nations—the
Hittites, Girgashites,
Amorites,
Canaanites,
Perizzites,
Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations larger and
stronger than you—
Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than
thyself, cities great and
fenced up to heaven,
Hear, O Israel:
Today you are about to cross the Jordan to go in and dispossess nations greater and
stronger than you, with large cities fortified to the heavens.
A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of
Anak!
The people are
strong and tall, the descendants of the
Anakim. You know about them, and you have heard it said, “Who can stand up to the sons of
Anak?”
Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be
strong, and go in and possess the land,
whither ye go to possess it;
You shall therefore keep every commandment I am giving you
today, so that you may have the strength to go in and possess the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,
Then will the LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall possess greater nations and mightier than
yourselves.
then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and stronger than you.
And thou shalt
bestow that money for
whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for
strong drink, or for
whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt
rejoice, thou, and thine household,
Then you may
spend the money on anything you desire: cattle, sheep, wine,
strong drink, or anything you wish. You are to feast there in the presence of the LORD your God and
rejoice with your household.
Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye
drunk wine or
strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.
You
ate no bread and
drank no wine or
strong drink, so that you might know that I am the LORD your God.
Be
strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that
doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor
forsake thee.
Be
strong and
courageous; do not be afraid or
terrified of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you; He will never leave you nor
forsake you.”
And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be
strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath
sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to
inherit it.
Then Moses called for Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be
strong and
courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that the LORD
swore to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance.
And he gave Joshua the son of
Nun a charge, and said, Be
strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I
sware unto them: and I will be with thee.
Then the LORD commissioned Joshua son of
Nun and said, “Be
strong and
courageous, for you will bring the Israelites into the land that I
swore to give them, and I will be with you.”
Be
strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I
sware unto their fathers to give them.
Be
strong and
courageous, for you shall give these people the inheritance of the land that I
swore to their fathers I would give them.
Only be thou
strong and very
courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest
prosper whithersoever thou goest.
Above all, be
strong and very
courageous. Be careful to observe all the law that My servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may
prosper wherever you go.
Have not I commanded thee? Be
strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee
whithersoever thou goest.
Have I not commanded you to be
strong and
courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Whosoever he be that
doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not
hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be
strong and of a good courage.
Anyone who rebels against your order and does not obey your words, all that you command him, will be put to death. Above all, be
strong and
courageous!”
And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.
“Do not be afraid or discouraged,” Joshua said. “Be
strong and
courageous, for the LORD will do this to all the enemies you fight.”
As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.
still as
strong today as I was the day Moses sent me out. As my strength was then, so it is now for war, for going out, and for coming in.
Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were
waxen strong, that they put the
Canaanites to tribute; but did not utterly drive them out.
However, when the Israelites grew
stronger, they put the
Canaanites to forced labor; but they failed to drive them out completely.
But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the
Canaanites, though they have iron
chariots, and though they be
strong.
because the hill country will be yours as well. It is a forest; clear it, and its
farthest limits will be yours. Although the
Canaanites have iron
chariots and although they are
strong, you can drive them out.”
And then the coast turneth to
Ramah, and to the
strong city Tyre; and the coast turneth to Hosah; and the outgoings thereof are at the sea from the coast to
Achzib:
The border then turned back toward
Ramah as far as the fortified city of Tyre, turned toward Hosah, and came out at the Sea in the region of
Achzib,
Be ye therefore very
courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside
therefrom to the right hand or to the left;
Be very strong, then, so that you can keep and obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, not turning aside from it to the right or to the left.
For the LORD hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath been able to stand before you unto this day.
The LORD has driven out great and powerful nations before you, and to this day no one can stand against you.
And it came to pass, when Israel was
strong, that they put the
Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.
When Israel became
stronger, they pressed the
Canaanites into forced labor, but they never drove them out completely.
And the hand of the children of Israel
prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of
Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of
Canaan.
And the hand of the Israelites grew
stronger and
stronger against Jabin king of
Canaan until they destroyed him.
And the hand of
Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and
strong holds.
and the hand of
Midian prevailed against Israel. Because of the Midianites, the Israelites prepared shelters for themselves in the mountains, caves, and
strongholds.
And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second
bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the
grove which thou shalt cut down.
Then build a proper altar to the LORD your God on the top of this
stronghold. And with the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down, take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering.”
But there was a
strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and
gat them up to the top of the tower.
But there was a strong tower inside the city, and all the men, women, and leaders of the city fled there. They locked themselves in and went up to the roof of the tower.
Now therefore
beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor
strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:
Now please be careful not to drink wine or strong drink, and not to eat anything unclean.
But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor
strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a
Nazarite to God from the
womb to the day of his death.
But he said to me, ‘Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son. Now, therefore, do not drink wine or
strong drink, and do not eat anything unclean, because the boy will be a
Nazirite to God from the
womb until the day of his death.’”
She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.
She must not eat anything that comes from the vine, nor drink any wine or strong drink, nor eat anything unclean. She must do everything I have commanded her.”
And he said unto them, Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the
strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days
expound the
riddle.
So he said to them: “Out of the eater came something to eat, and out of the
strong came something sweet.” For three days they were unable to explain the
riddle.
And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? and what is
stronger than a lion? And he said unto them, If ye had not
plowed with my
heifer, ye had not found out my

Before
sunset on the seventh day, the men of the city said to
Samson: “What is sweeter than honey? And what is
stronger than a lion?” So he said to them: “If you had not
plowed with my
heifer, you would not have
solved my
riddle!”
And the children of
Dan went their way: and when
Micah saw that they were too
strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.
So the Danites went on their way, and
Micah turned to go back home, because he saw that they were too
strong for him.
And
Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have
drunken neither wine nor
strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.
“No, my lord,”
Hannah replied. “I am a woman
oppressed in spirit. I have not had any wine or
strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before the LORD.
Be
strong, and
quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you:
quit yourselves like men, and fight.
Take courage and be men, O Philistines! Otherwise, you will serve the Hebrews just as they served you. Now be men and fight!”
And there was
sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any
strong man, or any
valiant man, he took him unto him.
And the war with the Philistines was fierce for all the days of Saul. So whenever he noticed any
strong or
brave man, Saul would
enlist him.
And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold.
So he left them in the care of the king of Moab, and they stayed with him the whole time David was in the
stronghold.
And the prophet
Gad said unto David,
Abide not in the hold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.

Gad said to David, “Do not stay in the
stronghold. Depart and go into the land of Judah.” So David left and went to the forest of Hereth.
Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went
whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he
forbare to go forth.
Then David and his men, about six hundred strong, set out and departed from Keilah, moving from place to place. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he declined to go forth.

Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying,
Doth not David hide himself with us in
strong holds in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?
Then the Ziphites came up to Saul at Gibeah and said, “Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hachilah south of Jeshimon?
And David went up from thence, and dwelt in strong holds at En-gedi.
And David went up from there and lived in the strongholds of En-gedi.
And David
sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men
gat them up unto the hold.
So David gave his oath to Saul. Then Saul returned home, but David and his men went up to the
stronghold.
Saul and
Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, they were
stronger than lions.
Saul and
Jonathan, beloved and delightful in life, were not divided in death. They were swifter than eagles, they were
stronger than lions.
Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye
valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have
anointed me king over them.
Now then, be
strong and
courageous, for though Saul your lord is dead, the house of Judah has
anointed me as their king.”
Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.
Now the war between the house of Saul and the house of David was
protracted. And David grew
stronger and
stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.
And it came to pass, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that
Abner made himself
strong for the house of Saul.
During the war between the house of Saul and the house of David,
Abner had continued to
strengthen his position in the house of Saul.
Nevertheless David took the
strong hold of
Zion: the same is the city of David.
Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of
Zion (that is, the City of David).
But when the Philistines heard that they had
anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.
When the Philistines heard that David had been

stronghold.
And he said, If the Syrians be too
strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of
Ammon be too
strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.
“If the Arameans are too
strong for me,” said
Joab, “then you will come to my
rescue. And if the
Ammonites are too
strong for you, then I will come to your
rescue.
Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good.
Be
strong and let us fight
bravely for our people and for the cities of our God. May the LORD do what is good in His sight.”
And it came to pass, when
Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that
valiant men were.
So as
Joab besieged the city, he assigned Uriah to a place where he saw the
strongest enemy soldiers.
Then David said unto the
messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto
Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more
strong against the city, and overthrow it: and
encourage thou him.
Howbeit he would not
hearken unto her voice: but, being
stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.
But Amnon refused to
listen to her, and being
stronger, he
violated her and lay with her.
And
Absalom sent for
Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the
conspiracy was
strong; for the people increased continually with
Absalom.
And
Ahithophel said unto
Absalom, Go in unto thy father’s concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art
abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that are with thee be
strong.
Ahithophel replied, “Sleep with your father’s concubines, whom he has left to keep the palace. When all Israel hears that you have become a
stench to your father, then the hands of all who are with you will be strengthened.”
The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation. My
stronghold, my refuge, and my
Savior, You save me from violence.
He delivered me from my
strong enemy, and from them that
hated me: for they were too
strong for me.
He
rescued me from my powerful enemy, from foes too mighty for me.
God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.
God is my strong fortress and He makes my way clear.
Strangers shall
fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.
Foreigners lose heart and come
trembling from their
strongholds.
And David was then in an hold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in
Bethlehem.
At that time David was in the
stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was at
Bethlehem.

strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the
Hivites, and of the
Canaanites: and they went out to the south of Judah, even to Beer-
sheba.
They went toward the fortress of Tyre and all the cities of the
Hivites and
Canaanites. Finally, they went on to the Negev of Judah, to
Beersheba.
I go the way of all the earth: be thou
strong therefore, and
shew thyself a man;
“I am about to go the way of all the earth. So be
strong and prove
yourself a man.
(For they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy stretched out arm;) when he shall come and pray toward this house;
for they will hear of Your great name and mighty hand and outstretched arm—when he comes and prays toward this temple,
Nevertheless for David’s sake did the LORD his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem:

And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and
strong wind rent the mountains, and
brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an
earthquake; but the LORD was not in the
earthquake:
Then the LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD. Behold, the LORD is about to pass by.” And a great and mighty wind
tore into the mountains and
shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an
earthquake, but the LORD was not in the
earthquake.
And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
Meanwhile, the servants of the king of
Aram said to him, “Their gods are gods of the hills. That is why they prevailed over us. Instead, we should fight them on the plains; surely then we will prevail.
And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and
chariot for
chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be
stronger than they. And he
hearkened unto their voice, and did so.
And you must raise an army like the one you have lost—horse for horse and
chariot for
chariot—so we can fight the Israelites on the plain, where we will surely prevail.” And the king approved their plan and acted accordingly.
And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty
strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest
peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
“Look now,” they said to
Elisha, “we your servants have fifty
valiant men. Please let them go and search for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up and put him on one of the mountains or in one of the valleys.” “Do not send them,”
Elisha replied.
And
Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou
wilt do unto the children of Israel: their
strong holds
wilt thou set on fire, and their young men
wilt thou
slay with the sword, and
wilt dash their children, and
rip up their women with child.
“Why is my lord
weeping?” asked
Hazael. “Because I know the evil you will do to the Israelites,”
Elisha replied. “You will set fire to their fortresses, kill their young men with the sword,
dash their little ones to pieces, and
rip open their
pregnant women.”
And all the men of might, even seven thousand, and
craftsmen and smiths a thousand, all that were

valor and a thousand
craftsmen and metalsmiths—all
strong and fit for battle.

stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was at
Bethlehem.
And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could handle shield and
buckler, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the roes upon the mountains;

stronghold in the desert. They were mighty men of
valor, trained for battle, experts with the shield and
spear, whose faces were like the faces of lions and who were as swift as gazelles on the mountains:
And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the hold unto David.
Other Benjamites and some men from Judah also came to David in his
stronghold.
And he said, If the Syrians be too
strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of
Ammon be too
strong for thee, then I will help thee.
“If the Arameans are too
strong for me,” said
Joab, “then you will come to my
rescue. And if the
Ammonites are too
strong for you, then I will come to your
rescue.
Be of good courage, and let us
behave ourselves
valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight.
Be
strong and let us fight
bravely for our people and for the cities of our God. May the LORD do what is good in His sight.”
