And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.
But the land was unable to
support both of them while they stayed together, for they had so many possessions that they were unable to
coexist.
Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous:
wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
suppose the fifty righteous ones lack five. Will You destroy the whole city for the lack of five?” He replied, “If I find forty-five there, I will not destroy it.”
And he spake unto him yet again, and said,
Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.

And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be
angry, and I will speak:
Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.
Then Abraham said, “May the Lord not be
angry, but let me speak further.
Suppose thirty are found there?” He replied, “If I find thirty there, I will not do it.”
And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord:
Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake.
And Abraham said, “Now that I have
ventured to speak to the Lord,
suppose twenty are found there?” He answered, “On account of the twenty, I will not destroy it.”
And he said, Oh let not the Lord be
angry, and I will speak yet but this once:
Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.
Finally, Abraham said, “May the Lord not be
angry, but let me speak once more.
Suppose ten are found there?” And He answered, “On account of the ten, I will not destroy it.”
And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath
supplanted me these two times: he took away my
birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?
So
Esau declared, “Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has
cheated me twice. He took my
birthright, and now he has taken my blessing.” Then he asked, “
Haven’t you saved a blessing for me?”
For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle.

Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands.
However, he did not acquire the priests’ portion of the land, for it had been given to them by Pharaoh. They
ate the rations that Pharaoh
supplied; so they did not sell their land.
And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
Then Moses asked God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is His name?’ What should I tell them?”
Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as
heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.

And of the thousand seven hundred seventy and five shekels he made hooks for the pillars, and overlaid their chapiters, and
filleted them.
With the 1,775 shekels of silver he made the hooks for the posts, overlaid their tops, and supplied bands for them.
No man who has any defect may approach—no man who is blind,
lame, disfigured, or
deformed;
Either a
bullock or a lamb that hath any thing
superfluous or lacking in his parts, that mayest thou offer for a
freewill offering; but for a
vow it shall not be accepted.
And if thy brother be
waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt
relieve him:
yea, though he be a stranger, or a
sojourner; that he may live with thee.
Now if your
countryman becomes destitute and cannot
support himself among you, then you are to help him as you would a foreigner or stranger, so that he can continue to live among you.
And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.
You will still be eating the old supply of grain when you need to clear it out to make room for the new.
And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall
bake your bread in one
oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.
When I cut off your
supply of bread, ten women will
bake your bread in a single
oven and
dole out your bread by weight, so that you will eat but not be satisfied.
And they shall take a cloth of blue, and cover the
candlestick of the light, and his lamps, and his
tongs, and his snuffdishes, and all the oil vessels thereof,
wherewith they minister unto it:
They are to take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand used for light, together with its lamps,
wick trimmers, and
trays, as well as the jars of oil with which to
supply it.
That the princes of Israel, heads of the house of their fathers, who were the princes of the tribes, and were over them that were numbered, offered:
And the leaders of Israel, the heads of their families, presented an offering. These men were the
tribal leaders who had
supervised the
registration.
Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red sea, and in the
brooks of
Arnon,
Therefore it is stated in the Book of the Wars of the LORD: “Waheb in
Suphah and the wadis of the
Arnon,
These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between
Paran, and Tophel, and
Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
These are the words that Moses spoke to all Israel in the wilderness east of the Jordan—in the Arabah opposite
Suph—between
Paran and Tophel,
Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and
hate her,
Suppose a man marries a woman, has relations with her, and comes to
hate her,
And old
shoes and
clouted upon their feet, and old garments upon them; and all the bread of their provision was dry and
mouldy.
And
Samson said unto the
lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars
whereupon the house standeth, that I may
lean upon them.
Samson said to the servant who held his hand, “Lead me where I can feel the pillars
supporting the temple, so I can
lean against them.”
And
Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left.
And
Samson reached out for the two central pillars
supporting the temple.
Bracing himself against them with his right hand on one
pillar and his left hand on the other,
And the old man said, Peace be with thee;
howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only
lodge not in the street.
“Peace to you,” said the old man. “Let me
supply everything you need. Only do not
spend the night in the square.”
And we will take ten men of an hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and an hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to
fetch victual for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.
We will take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred out of every thousand, and a thousand out of every ten thousand, to
supply provisions for the army when they go to Gibeah in Benjamin to
punish them for the
atrocity they have committed in Israel.”
Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to
Gilgal, and I have not made
supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.
I thought, ‘Now the Philistines will descend upon me at
Gilgal, and I have not sought the favor of the LORD.’ So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering.”
And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and
saluted his brethren.
Then David left his
supplies in the care of the
quartermaster and ran to the battle line. When he arrived, he asked his brothers how they were doing.
And David said unto
Jonathan, Behold, to
morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even.
So David told him, “Look,
tomorrow is the New Moon, and I am
supposed to
dine with the king. Instead, let me go and hide in the field until the third evening from now.
And David said unto his men,
Gird ye on every man his sword. And they
girded on every man his sword; and David also
girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the stuff.
And David said to his men, “
Strap on your swords!” So David and all his men put on their swords, and about four hundred men followed David, while two hundred stayed with the
supplies.
For who will
hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.
Who will
listen to your proposal? The share of the one who went to battle will
match the share of the one who stayed with the
supplies. They will share alike.”
So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from
Millo and inward.
So David took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built it up all the way around, from the supporting terraces inward.
And
Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.

And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother, answered and said, Let not my lord
suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of
Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
But Jonadab, the son of David’s brother Shimeah, spoke up: “My lord must not think they have killed all the sons of the king, for only Amnon is dead. In fact,
Absalom has
planned this since the day Amnon
violated his sister Tamar.
But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we
flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succour us out of the city.
But the people
pleaded, “You must not go out! For if we have to
flee, they will pay no attention to us. Even if half of us die, they will not care; but you are worth ten thousand of us. It is better for now if you
support us from the city.”
They prevented me in the day of my
calamity: but the LORD was my stay.
And he conferred with
Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with
Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.
So Adonijah conferred with
Joab son of Zeruiah and with
Abiathar the priest, who
supported him.
Beside the chief of Solomon’s officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.
He built also the house of the forest of
Lebanon; the length thereof was an hundred cubits, and the breadth thereof fifty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits, upon four rows of
cedar pillars, with
cedar beams upon the pillars.
He built the House of the Forest of
Lebanon a hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high, with four rows of
cedar pillars
supporting the
cedar beams.
And every base had four
brasen wheels, and plates of brass: and the four corners thereof had undersetters: under the
laver were undersetters
molten, at the side of every addition.
Each stand had four bronze wheels with bronze axles and a basin resting on four
supports, with
wreaths at each side.
And in the top of the base was there a round compass of half a
cubit high: and on the top of the base the ledges thereof and the borders thereof were of the same.
At the top of each stand was a circular band half a
cubit high. The
supports and panels were cast as a unit with the top of the stand.
For on the plates of the ledges thereof, and on the borders thereof, he graved cherubims, lions, and palm trees, according to the proportion of every one, and additions round about.
He engraved
cherubim, lions, and palm trees on the surfaces of the
supports and panels, wherever each had space, with
wreaths all around.
Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his
supplication, O LORD my God, to
hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee to day:
Yet regard the prayer and
plea of Your servant, O LORD my God, so that You may hear the cry and the prayer that Your servant is praying before You
today.
And
hearken thou to the
supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou hearest,
forgive.
Hear the
plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this place. May You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place. May You hear and
forgive.
When thy people Israel be
smitten down before the enemy, because they have
sinned against thee, and shall turn again to thee, and
confess thy name, and pray, and make
supplication unto thee in this house:
When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have
sinned against You, and they return to You and
confess Your name, praying and
pleading with You in this temple,
What prayer and
supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house:
then may whatever prayer or petition Your people Israel make—each knowing his own afflictions and spreading out his hands toward this temple—
Then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their
supplication, and maintain their cause.
then may You hear from heaven their prayer and their
plea, and may You
uphold their cause.
and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
Then hear thou their prayer and their
supplication in heaven thy dwelling place, and maintain their cause,
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, their prayer and petition, and may You
uphold their cause.
That thine eyes may be open unto the
supplication of thy servant, and unto the
supplication of thy people Israel, to
hearken unto them in all that they call for unto thee.
May Your eyes be open to the pleas of Your servant and of Your people Israel, and may You
listen to them whenever they call to You.
And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and
supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from
kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.
Now when Solomon had finished praying this entire prayer and petition to the LORD, he got up before the altar of the LORD, where he had been
kneeling with his hands spread out toward heaven.
And let these my words,
wherewith I have made
supplication before the LORD, be
nigh unto the LORD our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require:
And may these words with which I have made my petition before the LORD be near to the LORD our God day and night, so that He may
uphold the cause of His servant and of His people Israel as each day requires,
And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy
supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have
hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
And the LORD said to him: “I have heard your prayer and petition before Me. I have consecrated this temple you have built by putting My Name there
forever; My eyes and My heart will be there for all time.
(Now
Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with
cedar trees and
fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that then king Solomon gave
Hiram twenty cities in the land of
Galilee.
King Solomon gave twenty towns in the land of
Galilee to
Hiram king of Tyre, who had
supplied him with
cedar and
cypress logs and gold for his every desire.
And this is the reason of the
levy which king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the LORD, and his own house, and
Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and
Megiddo, and
Gezer.
This is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon imposed to build the house of the LORD, his own palace, the
supporting terraces, and the wall of Jerusalem, as well as Hazor,
Megiddo, and
Gezer.
These were the chief of the officers that were over Solomon’s work, five hundred and fifty, which bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.
They were also the chief officers over Solomon’s projects: 550 supervisors over the people who did the work.
But Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of the city of David unto her house which Solomon had built for her: then did he build
Millo.
As soon as Pharaoh’s daughter had come up from the City of David to the palace that Solomon had built for her, he built the supporting terraces.
And this was the cause that he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built
Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father.
and this is the account of his rebellion against the king. Solomon had built the
supporting terraces and repaired the
gap in the wall of the city of his father David.
Then were the people of Israel divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king; and half followed Omri.
At that time the people of Israel were divided: Half of the people supported Tibni son of Ginath as king, and half supported Omri.
And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.
The Israelites also
mobilized, gathered
supplies, and marched out to meet them. The Israelites camped before them like two small flocks of goats, while the Arameans covered the
countryside.
And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,
Then they would put the counted money into the hands of those who
supervised the work on the house of the LORD, who in turn would pay those doing the work—the carpenters, builders,
And
Pul the king of Assyria came against the land: and Menahem gave
Pul a thousand talents of silver, that his hand might be with him to
confirm the kingdom in his hand.
Then
Pul king of Assyria invaded the land, and Menahem gave
Pul a thousand talents of silver in order to gain his
support and
strengthen his own
grip on the kingdom.
And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the house,
And let them deliver it into the hands of the supervisors of those doing the work on the house of the LORD, who in turn are to give it to the workmen repairing the damages to the house of the LORD—
And Shaphan the
scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.
And Shaphan the
scribe went to the king and reported, “Your servants have paid out the money that was found in the temple and have put it into the hands of the workers and
supervisors of the house of the LORD.”
And he built the city round about, even from
Millo round about: and
Joab repaired the rest of the city.
He built up the city around it, from the
supporting terraces to the surrounding wall, while
Joab restored the rest of the city.
Moreover they that were
nigh them, even unto
Issachar and
Zebulun and
Naphtali, brought bread on
asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, and meat, meal, cakes of figs, and bunches of
raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep abundantly: for there was joy in Israel.
And their neighbors from as far away as
Issachar,
Zebulun, and
Naphtali came bringing food on
donkeys, camels, mules, and oxen—abundant
supplies of flour, fig cakes and
raisin cakes, wine and oil, oxen and sheep. Indeed, there was joy in Israel.
And Solomon told out
threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and
fourscore thousand to
hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.
So he conscripted 70,000
porters, 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600
supervisors.
And he set
threescore and ten thousand of them to be bearers of burdens, and
fourscore thousand to be hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people a work.
Solomon made 70,000 of them
porters, 80,000 stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600
supervisors.
Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his
supplication, O LORD my God, to
hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:
Yet regard the prayer and
plea of Your servant, O LORD my God, so that You may hear the cry and the prayer that Your servant is praying before You.
Hearken therefore unto the
supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest,
forgive.
Hear the
plea of Your servant and of Your people Israel when they pray toward this place. May You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place. May You hear and
forgive.
And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they have
sinned against thee; and shall return and
confess thy name, and pray and make
supplication before thee in this house;
When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have
sinned against You, and they return to You and
confess Your name, praying and
pleading before You in this temple,
Then what prayer or what
supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own
sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:
then may whatever prayer or petition Your people Israel make—each knowing his own afflictions and spreading out his hands toward this temple—
Then hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their
supplication, and maintain their cause.
then may You hear from heaven their prayer and their
plea, and may You
uphold their cause.
Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their
supplications, and maintain their cause, and
forgive thy people which have
sinned against thee.
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, their prayer and petition, and may You
uphold their cause. May You
forgive Your people who
sinned against You.
And these were the chief of king Solomon’s officers, even two hundred and fifty, that bare rule over the people.
They were also the chief officers for King Solomon: 250 supervisors.
And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of
victual, and of oil and wine.
He strengthened their fortresses and put officers in them, with supplies of food, oil, and wine.
So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made
Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.
So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah and
supported Rehoboam son of Solomon for three years, because they walked for three years in the way of David and Solomon.
And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, were in Jerusalem.
and kept vast
supplies in the cities of Judah. He also had warriors in Jerusalem who were mighty men of
valor.
And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and
hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to
mend the house of the LORD.
Then the king and Jehoiada would give the money to those who
supervised the labor on the house of the LORD to
hire stonecutters and carpenters to restore the house of the LORD, as well as workers in iron and bronze to repair the house of the LORD.
And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.
Under their authority was an army of 307,500 trained for war, a powerful force to support the king against his enemies.
And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and
slings to cast stones.
Uzziah
supplied the entire army with shields, spears, helmets,
armor, bows, and slingstones.
Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired
Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.
Then
Hezekiah worked
resolutely to rebuild all the broken sections of the wall and to raise up towers on it. He also built an outer wall and
reinforced the
supporting terraces of the City of David, and he produced an abundance of weapons and shields.
And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his
supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then
Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God.
And when he prayed to Him, the LORD received his
plea and heard his petition; so He brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then
Manasseh knew that the LORD is God.
And they put it in the hand of the workmen that had the oversight of the house of the LORD, and they gave it to the workmen that wrought in the house of the LORD, to repair and
amend the house:
They put it into the hands of the supervisors of those doing the work of the house of the LORD, who in turn gave it to the workmen restoring and repairing the house of the LORD.
Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and were overseers of all that wrought the work in any manner of service: and of the Levites there were
scribes, and officers, and
porters.
were over the laborers and
supervised all who did the work, task by task. Some of the Levites were
secretaries, officers, and gatekeepers.
And they have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the LORD, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and to the hand of the workmen.
They have paid out the money that was found in the house of the LORD and have put it into the hands of the supervisors and workers.”
And all they that were about them strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with beasts, and with precious things, beside all that was willingly offered.
And all their neighbors
supported them with articles of silver and gold, with goods and
livestock, and with valuables, in addition to all their
freewill offerings.
Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began
Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the
remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the LORD.
In the second month of the second year after they had arrived at the house of God in Jerusalem,
Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak, and the rest of their associates including the priests, the Levites, and all who had returned to Jerusalem from the captivity, began the work. They appointed Levites twenty years of age or older to
supervise the construction of the house of the LORD.
Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites.
So Jeshua and his sons and brothers, Kadmiel and his sons (descendants of Yehudah), and the sons of Henadad and their sons and brothers—all Levites—joined together to
supervise those working on the house of God.
And if anything else is needed for the house of your God that you may have occasion to supply, you may pay for it from the royal treasury.
Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it.
Get up, for this matter is your
responsibility, and we will
support you. Be strong and take action!”
Only
Jonathan the son of
Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah were employed about this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the
Levite helped them.
(Only
Jonathan son of
Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah,
supported by Meshullam and Shabbethai the
Levite, opposed this plan.)
And next unto them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their Lord.
Next to him, the Tekoites made repairs, but their nobles did not put their shoulders to the work under their supervisors.
And Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the chief of the Levites, had the oversight of the outward business of the house of God.
Shabbethai and Jozabad, two leaders of the Levites, who
supervised the work outside the house of God;
And at that time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the
tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: for Judah
rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited.
And on that same day men were appointed over the rooms that housed the
supplies, contributions, firstfruits, and
tithes. The portions specified by the Law for the priests and Levites were gathered into these storerooms from the fields of the villages, because Judah
rejoiced over the priests and Levites who were serving.
And I made treasurers over the
treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and
Zadok the
scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.
I appointed as treasurers over the storerooms Shelemiah the priest,
Zadok the
scribe, and Pedaiah of the Levites, with Hanan son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah, to assist them, because they were considered
trustworthy. They were responsible for distributing the
supplies to their fellow Levites.
Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at
Shushan to destroy them, to
