Surely the
churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the
wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth
strife.
For as the
churning of milk yields butter, and the twisting of the nose draws blood, so the
stirring of anger brings forth
strife.”
There is no end of all the people, even of all that have been before them: they also that come after shall not
rejoice in him.
Surely this also is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
There is no limit to all the people who were before them. Yet the successor will not be celebrated by those who come even later. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the wind.
Surely oppression maketh a wise man
mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.
For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Surely there is no righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.
Though a
sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet
surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:
Although a
sinner does evil a hundred times and still lives long, yet I also know that it will go well with those who fear God, who are
reverent in His presence.
For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the
snare; so are the sons of men
snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
For
surely no man knows his time: Like fish caught in a cruel net or birds
trapped in a
snare, so men are ensnared in an evil time that suddenly falls upon them.
If the
snake bites before it is charmed, there is no profit for the charmer.
For they shall be
ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.
Surely you will be
ashamed of the sacred oaks in which you have delighted; you will be
embarrassed by the gardens that you have chosen.
In mine ears said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be
desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.
I heard the LORD of Hosts declare: “
Surely many houses will become
desolate, great mansions left unoccupied.
And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.
The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you do not stand firm in your faith, then you will not stand at all.’”
Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:
the Lord will
surely bring against them the mighty floodwaters of the Euphrates— the king of Assyria and all his
pomp. It will overflow its channels and overrun its banks.
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. For the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and He also has become my salvation.”
The LORD of hosts hath
sworn, saying,
Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:
The LORD of Hosts has
sworn: “
Surely, as I have
planned, so will it be; as I have purposed, so will it stand.
Therefore shall Moab
howl for Moab, every one shall
howl: for the foundations of Kir-hareseth shall ye
mourn;
surely they are
stricken.
Therefore let Moab
wail; let them
wail together for Moab.
Moan for the
raisin cakes of Kir-hareseth, you who are utterly
stricken.
Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise counsellors of Pharaoh is become
brutish: how say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?
The princes of Zoan are mere fools; Pharaoh’s wise counselors give senseless advice. How can you say to Pharaoh, “I am one of the wise, a son of eastern kings”?
And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts,
Surely this iniquity shall not be
purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.
The LORD of Hosts has revealed in my hearing: “Until your dying day, this sin of yours will never be
atoned for,” says the Lord GOD of Hosts.
Behold, the LORD will carry thee away with a mighty captivity, and will surely cover thee.
Look, O mighty man! The LORD is about to
shake you violently. He will take hold of you,
He will
surely violently turn and
toss thee like a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the
chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy lord’s house.
roll you into a ball, and
sling you into a wide land. There you will die, and there your glorious
chariots will remain—a disgrace to the house of your master.
And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be
glad and
rejoice in his salvation.
And in that day it will be said, “
Surely this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He has saved us. This is the LORD for whom we have waited. Let us
rejoice and be
glad in His salvation.”
Surely your turning of things
upside down shall be esteemed as the
potter’s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?
You have turned things
upside down, as if the
potter were regarded as clay. Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, “He did not make me”? Can the pottery say of the
potter, “He has no understanding”?
For the people shall dwell in
Zion at Jerusalem: thou shalt
weep no more: he will be very
gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; when he shall hear it, he will answer thee.
O people in
Zion who dwell in Jerusalem, you will
weep no more. He will
surely be
gracious when you cry for help; when He hears, He will answer you.
Neither let
Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will
surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
Do not let
Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the LORD when he says, ‘The LORD will
surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?
Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the other countries,
devoting them to destruction. Will you then be
spared?
Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
Surely for my own
welfare I had such great
anguish; but Your love has delivered me from the pit of
oblivion, for You have cast all my sins behind Your back.
Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
The grass
withers and the flowers fall when the breath of the LORD blows on them; indeed, the people are grass.
Behold, the nations are as a drop of a
bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
Surely the nations are like a drop in a
bucket; they are considered a
speck of dust on the scales; He lifts up the islands like fine dust.
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will
strengthen thee;
yea, I will help thee;
yea, I will
uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will
strengthen you; I will
surely help you; I will
uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.
Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and
merchandise of
Ethiopia and of the
Sabeans, men of
stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make
supplication unto thee, saying,
Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.
This is what the LORD says: “The products of Egypt and the
merchandise of
Cush, along with the
Sabeans, men of
stature, will come over to you and will be yours; they will
trudge behind you; they will come over in chains and bow down to you. They will
confess to you: ‘God is indeed with you, and there is no other; there is no other God.’”
Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be
ashamed.
Surely they will say of Me, ‘In the LORD alone are righteousness and strength.’” All who
rage against Him will come to Him and be put to shame.
Calling a
ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country:
yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.
I
summon a bird of prey from the east, a man for My purpose from a far-off land. Truly I have spoken, and truly I will bring it to pass. I have
planned it, and I will
surely do it.
Behold, they shall be as
stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.
Surely they are like
stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame. There will be no coals to warm them or fire to sit beside.
Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath
spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.
Surely My own hand founded the earth, and My right hand spread out the heavens; when I
summon them, they stand up together.
Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for
nought, and in vain: yet
surely my judgment is with the LORD, and my work with my God.
But I said, “I have labored in vain, I have spent My strength in
futility and vanity; yet My
vindication is with the LORD, and My reward is with My God.”
Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the LORD, thou shalt
surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a
bride doeth.
Lift up your eyes and look around. They all gather together; they come to you. As
surely as I live,” declares the LORD, “you will wear them all as
jewelry and put them on like a
bride.
Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who is he that shall
condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the
moth shall eat them up.
Surely the Lord GOD helps Me. Who is there to
condemn Me? See, they will all wear out like a garment; the
moths will
devour them.
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him
stricken,
smitten of God, and
afflicted.
O thou
afflicted,
tossed with
tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.
Behold, they shall
surely gather together, but not by me:
whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.
If
anyone attacks you, it is not from Me;
whoever assails you will fall before you.
Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath
glorified thee.
Surely you will
summon a nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you will run to you. For the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, has bestowed glory on you.”
Behold, the LORD’S hand is not
shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear.
Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of
Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath
glorified thee.
Surely the islands will wait for Me, with the ships of
Tarshish in the lead, to bring your children from
afar, with their silver and gold, to the honor of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for He has
glorified you.
The LORD hath
sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength,
Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured:
The LORD has
sworn by His right hand and by His mighty arm: “Never again will I give your grain to your enemies for food, nor will foreigners drink the new wine for which you have
toiled.
For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour.
For He said, “They are
surely My people, sons who will not be
disloyal.” So He became their
Savior.
Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art
wroth; for we have
sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.
You
welcome those who
gladly do right, who remember Your ways.
Surely You were
angry, for we
sinned. How can we be saved if we remain in our sins?
Then said I,
Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
“
Ah, Lord GOD,” I said, “I
surely do not know how to speak, for I am only a child!”
Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent,
surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will
plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not
sinned.
you say, ‘I am innocent.
Surely His anger will turn from me.’ Behold, I will judge you, because you say, ‘I have not
sinned.’
Surely as a wife
treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt
treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.
But as a woman may
betray her husband, so you have
betrayed Me, O house of Israel,” declares the LORD.
Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.
Surely deception comes from the hills, and
commotion from the mountains.
Surely the salvation of Israel is in the LORD our God.
And thou shalt
swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall
bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.
and if you can
swear, ‘As
surely as the LORD lives,’ in truth, in justice, and in righteousness, then the nations will be blessed by Him, and in Him they will glory.”
Then said I,
Ah, Lord GOD!
surely thou hast greatly
deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul.
Then I said, “
Ah, Lord GOD, how completely You have
deceived this people and Jerusalem by saying, ‘You will have peace,’ while a sword is at our throats.”
And though they say, The LORD liveth;
surely they
swear falsely.
Although they say, ‘As
surely as the LORD lives,’ they are
swearing falsely.”
Therefore I said,
Surely these are poor; they are
foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.
Then I said, “They are only the poor; they have played the
fool, for they do not know the way of the LORD, the justice of their God.
I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and
burst the bonds.
I will go to the powerful and speak to them.
Surely they know the way of the LORD, the justice of their God.” But they too, with one
accord, had broken the yoke and
torn off the chains.
I will
surely consume them, saith the LORD: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall
fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.
I will take away their harvest, declares the LORD. There will be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the tree, and even the leaf will wither. Whatever I have given them will be lost to them.”
And it shall come to pass, if they will
diligently learn the ways of my people, to
swear by my name, The LORD liveth; as they taught my people to
swear by
Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.
And if they will
diligently learn the ways of My people and
swear by My name, saying, ‘As
surely as the LORD lives’—just as they once taught My people to
swear by
Baal—then they will be established among My people.
Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every
bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every
bottle shall be filled with wine?
Therefore you are to tell them that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Every wineskin shall be filled with wine.’ And when they reply, ‘Don’t we surely know that every wineskin should be filled with wine?’
The LORD said: “
Surely I will deliver you for a good purpose;
surely I will
intercede with your enemy in your time of trouble, in your time of distress.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
Yet behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’
But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands
whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ For I will return them to their land that I gave to their forefathers.
O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of
affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say,
Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.
O LORD, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in the day of distress, the nations will come to You from the ends of the earth, and they will say, “Our fathers inherited nothing but lies, worthless idols of no benefit at all.
For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s house of Judah; Thou art
Gilead unto me, and the head of
Lebanon: yet
surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited.
For this is what the LORD says concerning the house of the king of Judah: “You are like
Gilead to Me, like the summit of
Lebanon; but I will
surely turn you into a desert, like cities that are uninhabited.
The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity:
surely then shalt thou be
ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.
The wind will drive away all your
shepherds, and your lovers will go into captivity. Then you will be
ashamed and
humiliated because of all your wickedness.
As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah were the
signet upon my right hand, yet would I
pluck thee thence;
“As
surely as I live,” declares the LORD, “even if you, Coniah son of
Jehoiakim king of Judah, were a
signet ring on My right hand, I would pull you off.
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, The LORD liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when they will no longer say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of Egypt.’
But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries
whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought and led the descendants of the house of Israel up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ Then they will dwell once more in their own land.”
Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly
forget you, and I will
forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast you out of my presence:
therefore I will
surely forget you and will cast you out of My presence, both you and the city that I gave to you and your fathers.
And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so evil;
surely thus saith the LORD, So will I give
Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt:
But like the bad figs, so bad they cannot be eaten,’ says the LORD, ‘so will I deal with
Zedekiah king of Judah, his officials, and the
remnant of Jerusalem—those remaining in this land and those living in the land of Egypt.
Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.
and as soon as he had finished telling all the people everything the LORD had commanded him to say, the priests and prophets and all the people seized him,
shouting, “You must
surely die!
But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall
surely bring innocent blood upon
yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.
But know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood upon
yourselves, upon this city, and upon its residents; for truly the LORD has sent me to speak all these words in your hearing.”
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will
punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.
this is what the LORD says: ‘I will
surely punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his descendants. He will have no one left among this people, nor will he see the good that I will bring to My people, declares the LORD, for he has preached rebellion against the LORD.’”
Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from
afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.
As for you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
I have
surely heard Ephraim
bemoaning himself thus; Thou hast
chastised me, and I was
chastised, as a
bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the LORD my God.
I have
surely heard Ephraim’s
moaning: ‘You disciplined me severely, like an untrained
calf. Restore me, that I may return, for You are the LORD my God.
Is Ephraim my
dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my
bowels are troubled for him; I will
surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD.
Is not Ephraim a precious son to Me, a delightful child? Though I often speak against him, I still remember him. Therefore My heart yearns for him; I have great
compassion for him,” declares the LORD.
And
Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall
surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;
Zedekiah king of Judah will not escape from the hands of the Chaldeans, but he will
surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and will speak with him face to face and see him eye to eye.
Behold, I will gather them out of all countries,
whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my
fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:
I will
surely gather My people from all the lands to which I have banished them in My
furious anger and great wrath, and I will return them to this place and make them dwell in safety.
And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.
And you
yourself will not escape his
grasp, but will
surely be captured and delivered into his hand. You will see the king of Babylon eye to eye and speak with him face to face; and you will go to Babylon.
Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said unto
Baruch, We will
surely tell the king of all these words.
When they had heard all these words, they turned to one another in fear and said to
Baruch, “
Surely we must report all these words to the king.”
And thou shalt say to
Jehoiakim the king of Judah, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?
You are to
proclaim concerning
Jehoiakim king of Judah that this is what the LORD says: You have burned the
scroll and said, ‘Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon would
surely come and destroy this land and deprive it of man and beast?’
Thus saith the LORD;
Deceive not
yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall
surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.
This is what the LORD says: Do not
deceive yourselves by saying, ‘The Chaldeans will go away for good,’ for they will not!
Thus saith the LORD, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which shall take it.
This is what the LORD says: This city will surely be delivered into the hands of the army of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it.”
Then Jeremiah said unto
Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee,
wilt thou not
surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel,
wilt thou not
hearken unto me?
“If I tell you,” Jeremiah replied, “you will
surely put me to death. And even if I give you advice, you will not
listen to me.”
So
Zedekiah the king
sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the LORD liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.
But King
Zedekiah swore secretly to Jeremiah, “As
surely as the LORD lives, who has given us this life, I will not kill you, nor will I deliver you into the hands of these men who are seeking your life.”
For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee: because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the LORD.
For I will
surely rescue you so that you do not fall by the sword. Because you have trusted in Me, you will escape with your life like a
spoil of war, declares the LORD.’”
Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that
whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.
“I have heard you,” replied Jeremiah the prophet. “I will
surely pray to the LORD your God as you request, and I will tell you everything that the LORD answers; I will not
withhold a word from you.”
Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will
surely perform our vows that we have
vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will
surely accomplish your vows, and
surely perform your vows.
This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: As for you and your wives, you have spoken with your mouths and fulfilled with your hands your words: ‘We will
surely perform our vows that we have made to burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her.’ Go
ahead, then, do what you have promised! Keep your vows!
Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have
sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.
Nevertheless, hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah living in Egypt: Behold, I have
sworn by My great name, says the LORD, that never again will any man of Judah living in the land of Egypt
invoke My name or say, ‘As
surely as the Lord GOD lives.’
And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will
punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall
surely stand against you for evil:
This will be a sign to you that I will
punish you in this place, declares the LORD, so that you may know that My threats of
harm against you will
surely stand.
As I live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts,
Surely as
Tabor is among the mountains, and as
Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.
As
surely as I live, declares the King, whose name is the LORD of Hosts, there will come one who is like
Tabor among the mountains and like
Carmel by the sea.
But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from
afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
But you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.
For thus saith the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have
assuredly drunken; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt
surely drink of it.
For this is what the LORD says: “If those who do not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, can you possibly remain unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for you must drink it too.
Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against
Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman:
Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out:
surely he shall make their habitations
desolate with them.
Therefore hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up against
Edom and the strategies He has devised against the people of Teman:
Surely the little ones of the flock will be
dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made
desolate because of them.
Therefore hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans:
Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out:
surely he shall make their

Therefore hear the plans that the LORD has drawn up against Babylon and the strategies He has devised against the land of the Chaldeans:
Surely the little ones of the flock will be
dragged away; certainly their pasture will be made
desolate because of them.
The LORD of hosts hath
sworn by himself, saying,

Surely I will fill you up with men as with locusts, and they will
shout in triumph over you.”

spoiler is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken: for the LORD God of recompences shall
surely requite.

retribution; He will repay in full.

Surely my soul remembers and is humbled within me.
Not to many people of a strange speech and of an hard language, whose words thou canst not understand.
Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have
hearkened unto thee.
not to the many peoples of unfamiliar speech and difficult language whose words you cannot understand.
Surely if I had sent you to them, they would have
listened to you.
