And when Joseph saw
that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father’s hand, to remove it from Ephraim’s head unto
Manasseh’s head.
When Joseph saw
that his father had placed his right hand on Ephraim’s head, he was displeased and took his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head to
Manasseh’s.
And he blessed them
that day, saying, In thee shall Israel
bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as
Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before
Manasseh.
So
that day Jacob blessed them and said: “By you shall Israel
pronounce this blessing: ‘May God make you like Ephraim and
Manasseh.’” So he put Ephraim before
Manasseh.
Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.
And to you, as one who is above your brothers, I give the ridge of land
that I took from the
Amorites with my sword and bow.”
And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather
yourselves together,
that I may tell you
that which shall
befall you in the last days.
Then Jacob called for his sons and said, “Gather around so that I can tell you what will happen to you in the days to come:
And he saw that rest was good, and the land that it was pleasant; and bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant unto tribute.
He saw that his resting place was good and that his land was pleasant, so he bent his shoulder to the burden and submitted to labor as a servant.
Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path,
that biteth the horse heels, so
that his rider shall fall backward.
He will be a
snake by the road, a
viper in the path
that bites the horse’s heels so
that its rider tumbles backward.
Naphtali is a hind let loose: he giveth goodly words.
Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the
Almighty, who shall
bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep
that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the
womb:
by the God of your father who helps you, and by the
Almighty who blesses you, with blessings of the heavens above, with blessings of the depths below, with blessings of the breasts and
womb.
The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the
everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him
that was separate from his brethren.
The blessings of your father have surpassed the blessings of the ancient mountains and the
bounty of the
everlasting hills. May they rest on the head of Joseph, on the
brow of the prince of his brothers.
All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: and this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.
These are the tribes of Israel, twelve in all, and this was what their father said to them. He blessed them, and he blessed each one with a suitable blessing.
And he charged them, and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people:
bury me with my fathers in the cave
that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,
Then Jacob
instructed them, “I am about to be gathered to my people.
Bury me with my fathers in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite.
In the cave
that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before
Mamre, in the land of
Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a buryingplace.
The cave is in the field of Machpelah near
Mamre, in the land of
Canaan. This is the field Abraham purchased from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site.
The purchase of the field and of the cave
that is therein was from the children of
Heth.
The field and the cave
that is in it were purchased from the
Hittites.”
And when the days of his
mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,
When the days of
mourning had passed, Joseph said to Pharaoh’s court, “If I have found favor in your eyes, please tell Pharaoh
that My father made me
swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have
digged for me in the land of
Canaan, there shalt thou
bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and
bury my father, and I will come again.
my father made me
swear an oath when he said, ‘I am about to die. You must
bury me in the tomb
that I
dug for myself in the land of
Canaan.’ Now let me go and
bury my father, and then return.”
And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all
that went up with him to
bury his father, after he had buried his father.
After Joseph had buried his father, he returned to Egypt with his brothers and all who had gone with him to
bury his father.
And when Joseph’s brethren saw
that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will
peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.
When Joseph’s brothers saw
that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph bears a
grudge? Then he will surely repay us for all the evil
that we did to him.”
And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.
The descendants of Jacob numbered seventy in all, including Joseph, who was already in Egypt.
And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died,
And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.
but the Israelites were fruitful and increased rapidly; they multiplied and became exceedingly numerous, so that the land was filled with them.
Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.
Come, let us deal
shrewdly with them, or they will increase even more; and if a war breaks out, they may join our enemies, fight against us, and leave the country.”
And it came to pass, because the
midwives feared God,
that he made them houses.
And because the
midwives feared God, He gave them families of their own.
And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.
Then Pharaoh commanded all his people: “Every son born to the Hebrews you must throw into the Nile, but every daughter you may allow to live.”
And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him
that he was a goodly child, she
hid him three months.
and she conceived and gave birth to a son. When she saw
that he was a beautiful child, she
hid him for three months.
Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a
nurse of the Hebrew women,
that she may
nurse the child for thee?
Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call one of the Hebrew women to
nurse the child for you?”
And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown,
that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he
spied an Egyptian
smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.
One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people and observed their hard labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people.
And he looked this way and
that way, and when he saw
that there was no man, he
slew the Egyptian, and
hid him in the sand.
After looking this way and
that and seeing no one, he struck down the Egyptian and
hid his body in the sand.
And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews
strove together: and he said to him
that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?
The next day Moses went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, “Why are you attacking your companion?”
And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?
When the daughters returned to their father Reuel, he asked them, “Why have you returned so early
today?”
And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.
“So where is he?” their father asked. “Why did you leave the man behind?
Invite him to have something to eat.”
And it came to pass in process of time,
that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel
sighed by reason of the
bondage, and they
cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the
bondage.
After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites
groaned and
cried out under their burden of slavery, and their cry for
deliverance from
bondage ascended to God.
And when the LORD saw
that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the
bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
When the LORD saw
that he had gone over to look, God called out to him from within the
bush, “Moses, Moses!” “Here I am,” he answered.
And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of
that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the
Canaanites, and the
Hittites, and the
Amorites, and the
Perizzites, and the
Hivites, and the Jebusites.
Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
Therefore, go! I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring My people the Israelites out of Egypt.”
And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
But Moses asked God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a
token unto thee,
that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
“I will surely be with you,” God said, “and this will be the sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, all of you will worship God on this mountain.”
And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:
Go,
assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—has appeared to me and said: I have surely attended to you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt.
And they shall
hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we
beseech thee, three days’ journey into the wilderness,
that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.
The elders of Israel will
listen to what you say, and you must go with them to the king of Egypt and tell him, ‘The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Now please let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness, so
that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.’
And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.
But I know that the king of Egypt will not allow you to go unless a mighty hand compels him.
And I will stretch out my hand, and
smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after
that he will let you go.
So I will stretch out My hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders I will perform among them. And after that, he will release you.
And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty:
And I will grant this people such favor in the sight of the Egyptians that when you leave, you will not go away empty-handed.
But every woman shall
borrow of her neighbour, and of her
that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and
raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall
spoil the Egyptians.
Every woman shall ask her
neighbor and any woman staying in her house for silver and gold
jewelry and clothing, and you will put them on your sons and daughters. So you will
plunder the Egyptians.”
And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
And the LORD asked him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied.
That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
“This is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”
And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither
hearken to the voice of the first sign,
that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
And the LORD said, “If they refuse to believe you or
heed the witness of the first sign, they may believe
that of the second.
And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither
hearken unto thy voice,
that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.
But if they do not believe even these two signs or
listen to your voice, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. Then the water you take from the Nile will become blood on the ground.”
And the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the
Levite thy brother? I know
that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he
seeth thee, he will be
glad in his heart.
Then the anger of the LORD burned against Moses, and He said, “Is not Aaron the
Levite your brother? I know
that he can speak well, and he is now on his way to meet you. When he sees you, he will be
glad in his heart.
And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see
that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will
harden his heart,
that he shall not let the people go.
The LORD
instructed Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, see
that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders
that I have put within your power. But I will
harden his heart so
that he will not let the people go.
And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my
firstborn:
Then tell Pharaoh
that this is what the LORD says: ‘Israel is My
firstborn son,
And I say unto thee, Let my son go,
that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will
slay thy son, even thy
firstborn.
and I told you to let My son go so
that he may worship Me. But since you have refused to let him go, behold, I will kill your
firstborn son!’”
And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.
Now at a
lodging place along the way, the LORD met Moses and was about to kill him.
And the people believed: and when they heard
that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and
that he had looked upon their
affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.
and they believed. And when they heard
that the LORD had attended to the Israelites and had seen their
affliction, they bowed down and worshiped.
And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
After that, Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.’”
And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
But Pharaoh replied, “Who is the LORD that I should obey His voice and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and I will not let Israel go.”
And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,
That same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their
foremen:
And the tale of the bricks, which they did make
heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.
But require of them the same
quota of bricks as before; do not reduce it. For they are
lazy;
that is why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’
Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.
Make the work harder on the men so they will be occupied and pay no attention to these lies.”
But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.
“You are slackers!” Pharaoh replied. “Slackers! That is why you keep saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.’
And the officers of the children of Israel did see
that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not
minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.
The
Israelite foremen realized they were in trouble when they were told, “You must not reduce your daily
quota of bricks.”
And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil
entreated this people? why is it
that thou hast sent me?
So Moses returned to the LORD and asked, “Lord, why have You brought trouble upon this people? Is this why You sent me?
And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
I will take you as My own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.
And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did
swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an
heritage: I am the LORD.
And I will bring you into the land
that I
swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD!’”
Go in, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.
“Go and tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his land.”
These are that Aaron and Moses, to whom the LORD said, Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies.
It was this Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, “Bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their divisions.”
These are they which spake to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt: these are that Moses and Aaron.
Moses and Aaron were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt in order to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.
And it came to pass on the day when the LORD spake unto Moses in the land of Egypt,
Now on the day that the LORD spoke to Moses in Egypt,
That the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, I am the LORD: speak thou unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say unto thee.
He said to him, “I am the LORD; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything I say to you.”
Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.
You are to speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his land.
But Pharaoh shall not
hearken unto you,
that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.
Pharaoh will not
listen to you. Then I will lay My hand on Egypt, and by mighty acts of judgment I will bring the divisions of My people the Israelites out of the land of Egypt.
And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.
And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out My hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out from among them.”
And he
hardened Pharaoh’s heart,
that he
hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
Still, Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he would not
listen to them, just as the LORD had said.
Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river’s
brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand.
Go to Pharaoh in the morning as you see him walking out to the water. Wait on the bank of the Nile to meet him, and take in your hand the staff
that was changed into a
snake.
And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear.
Then say to him, ‘The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to tell you: Let My people go, so
that they may worship Me in the wilderness. But you have not
listened until now.
Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know
that I am the LORD: behold, I will
smite with the rod
that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD. Behold, with the staff in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will turn to blood.
And the fish
that is in the river shall die, and the river shall
stink; and the Egyptians shall
lothe to drink of the water of the river.
The fish in the Nile will die, the river will
stink, and the Egyptians will be unable to drink its water.’”
And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
And the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over their rivers and canals and ponds and reservoirs—that they may become blood.’ There will be blood throughout the land of Egypt, even in the vessels of wood and stone.”
And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and
smote the waters
that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters
that were in the river were turned to blood.
Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded; in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials, Aaron raised the staff and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was turned to blood.
And the fish
that was in the river died; and the river
stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. And there was blood throughout the land of Egypt.
And seven days were fulfilled, after
that the LORD had
smitten the river.
And seven full days passed after the LORD had struck the Nile.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and tell him that this is what the LORD says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the LORD, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD.
Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray to the LORD to take the frogs away from me and my people. Then I will let your people go, that they may sacrifice to the LORD.”
And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only?
Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have the honor over me. When shall I pray for you and your officials and your people that the frogs (except for those in the Nile) may be taken away from you and your houses?”
And he said, To
morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word:
that thou mayest know
that there is none like unto the LORD our God.
“
Tomorrow,” Pharaoh answered. “May it be as you say,” Moses replied, “so
that you may know
that there is no one like the LORD our God.
And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses
cried unto the LORD because of the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh.
After Moses and Aaron had left Pharaoh, Moses
cried out to the LORD for help with the frogs
that He had brought against Pharaoh.
But when Pharaoh saw
that there was respite, he
hardened his heart, and
hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
When Pharaoh saw
that there was relief, however, he
hardened his heart and would not
listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and
smite the dust of the land,
that it may become
lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, that it may turn into swarms of gnats throughout the land of Egypt.’”
And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning, and when Pharaoh goes out to the water, stand before him and tell him that this is what the LORD says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
And I will
sever in
that day the land of
Goshen, in which my people dwell,
that no swarms of
flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know
that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth.
But on
that day I will give special treatment to the land of
Goshen, where My people live; no swarms of
flies will be found there. In this way you will know
that I, the LORD, am in the land.
And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the
abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the
abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us?
But Moses replied, “It would not be right to do
that, because the sacrifices we offer to the LORD our God would be
detestable to the Egyptians. If we offer sacrifices
that are
detestable before the Egyptians, will they not stone us?
And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me.
Pharaoh answered, “I will let you go and sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness, but you must not go very far. Now pray for me.”
And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD
that the swarms of
flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, to
morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal
deceitfully any more in not
letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.
“As soon as I leave you,” Moses said, “I will pray to the LORD, so
that tomorrow the swarms of
flies will depart from Pharaoh and his officials and his people. But Pharaoh must not act
deceitfully again by refusing to let the people go and sacrifice to the LORD.”
Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and tell him that this is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
And the LORD shall
sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all
that is the children’s of Israel.
But the LORD will make a distinction between the
livestock of Israel and the
livestock of Egypt, so
that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die.’”
And the LORD did
that thing on the
morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.
And the next day the LORD did just
that. All the
livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died.
And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was
hardened, and he did not let the people go.
Pharaoh sent officials and found
that none of the
livestock of the Israelites had died. But Pharaoh’s heart was
hardened, and he would not let the people go.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning, stand before Pharaoh, and tell him that this is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.
Otherwise, I will send all My plagues against you and your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth.
For now I will stretch out my hand,
that I may
smite thee and thy people with
pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth.
For by this time I could have stretched out My hand and struck you and your people with a plague to
wipe you off the earth.
And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to
shew in thee my power; and
that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.
But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display My power to you, and that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth.
