Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
But I wrought for my name’s sake,
that it should not be
polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.
But I acted for the sake of My name,
that it should not be
profaned in the eyes of the nations among whom they were living, in whose sight I had revealed Myself to Israel by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.
Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them,
that they might know
that I am the LORD
that sanctify them.
I also gave them My Sabbaths as a sign between us, so that they would know that I am the LORD who sanctifies them.
But I wrought for my name’s sake,
that it should not be
polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out.
But I acted for the sake of My name, so
that it would not be
profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.
Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands;
Moreover, with an
uplifted hand I
swore to them in the wilderness
that I would not bring them into the land
that I had given them—a land flowing with milk and honey, the glory of all lands—
And
hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you,
that ye may know
that I am the LORD your God.
Keep My Sabbaths holy, that they may be a sign between us, so that you may know that I am the LORD your God.’
Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my name’s sake,
that it should not be
polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.
But I
withheld My hand and acted for the sake of My name, so
that it would not be
profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.
I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness,
that I would
scatter them among the heathen, and
disperse them through the countries;
However, with an
uplifted hand I
swore to them in the wilderness
that I would
scatter them among the nations and
disperse them throughout the lands.
Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;
I also gave them over to statutes that were not good and ordinances by which they could not live.
And I
polluted them in their own gifts, in
that they caused to pass through the fire all
that openeth the
womb,
that I might make them
desolate, to the end
that they might know
that I am the LORD.
And I pronounced them unclean through their gifts—the sacrifice of every
firstborn in the fire—so
that I might
devastate them, in order
that they would know
that I am the LORD.
Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have
blasphemed me, in
that they have committed a
trespass against me.
Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and tell them
that this is what the Lord GOD says: In this way also your fathers
blasphemed Me by their unfaithfulness against Me.
For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the
provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.
When I brought them into the land
that I
swore to give them and they saw any high hill or
leafy tree, there they offered their sacrifices, presented offerings
that provoked Me, sent up their
fragrant incense, and poured out their drink offerings.
Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye
polluted after the manner of your fathers? and commit ye
whoredom after their abominations?
And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.
When you say, ‘Let us be like the nations, like the peoples of the lands, serving wood and stone,’ what you have in mind will never come to pass.
And I will
purge out from among you the rebels, and them
that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they
sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know
that I am the LORD.
And I will
purge you of those who
rebel and
transgress against Me. I will bring them out of the land in which they dwell, but they will not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know
that I am the LORD.
And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers.
Then you will know
that I am the LORD, when I bring you into the land of Israel, the land
that I
swore to give your fathers.
And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been
defiled; and ye shall
lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils
that ye have committed.
And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have wrought with you for my name’s sake, not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
Then you will know, O house of Israel, that I am the LORD, when I have dealt with you for the sake of My name and not according to your wicked ways and corrupt acts, declares the Lord GOD.”
And all flesh shall see
that I the LORD have
kindled it: it shall not be
quenched.
Then all people will see
that I, the LORD, have
kindled it; it will not be
quenched.”
And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of his
sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked.
and tell her
that this is what the LORD says: ‘I am against you, and I will draw My sword from its
sheath and cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked.
Seeing then
that I will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked, therefore shall my sword go forth out of his
sheath against all flesh from the south to the north:
Because I will cut off both the righteous and the wicked, My sword will be
unsheathed against
everyone from south to north.
That all flesh may know
that I the LORD have drawn forth my sword out of his
sheath: it shall not return any more.
Then all flesh will know
that I, the LORD, have taken My sword from its
sheath, not to return it again.’
And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou?
that thou shalt answer, For the
tidings; because it cometh: and every heart shall
melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall
faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and shall be brought to pass, saith the Lord GOD.
And when they ask, ‘Why are you
groaning?’ you are to say, ‘Because of the news
that is coming. Every heart will
melt, and every hand will go
limp. Every spirit will
faint, and every
knee will turn to water.’
Yes, it is coming and it will surely happen, declares the Lord GOD.”
Son of man,
prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD; Say, A sword, a sword is sharpened, and also
furbished:
“Son of man,
prophesy and tell them
that this is what the Lord says: ‘A sword, a sword, sharpened and polished—
It is sharpened to make a
sore slaughter; it is
furbished that it may
glitter: should we then make
mirth? it contemneth the rod of my son, as every tree.
it is sharpened for the slaughter, polished to
flash like
lightning! Should we
rejoice in the
scepter of My son? The sword despises every such stick.
And he hath given it to be
furbished,
that it may be handled: this sword is sharpened, and it is
furbished, to give it into the hand of the
slayer.
The sword is appointed to be polished, to be
grasped in the hand. It is sharpened and polished, to be placed in the hand of the
slayer.
Thou therefore, son of man,
prophesy, and
smite thine hands together, and let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword of the slain: it is the sword of the great men
that are slain, which entereth into their privy chambers.
‘So then, son of man,
prophesy and strike your hands together. Let the sword strike two times, even three. It is a sword
that slays, a sword of great slaughter closing in on every side!
I have set the point of the sword against all their gates,
that their heart may
faint, and their ruins be multiplied:
ah! it is made bright, it is
wrapped up for the slaughter.
So
that their hearts may
melt and many may
stumble, I have appointed at all their gates a sword for slaughter.
Yes, it is ready to
flash like
lightning; it is drawn for slaughter.
Also, thou son of man,
appoint thee two ways,
that the sword of the king of Babylon may come: both
twain shall come forth out of one land: and choose thou a place, choose it at the head of the way to the city.
“Now you, son of man, mark out two roads for the sword of the king of Babylon to take, both starting from the same land. And make a
signpost where the road branches off to each city.
Mark out one road for the sword to come against Rabbah of the
Ammonites, and another against Judah into fortified Jerusalem.
And it shall be unto them as a false
divination in their sight, to them
that have
sworn oaths: but he will call to
remembrance the iniquity,
that they may be taken.
It will seem like a false
omen to the eyes of those who have
sworn allegiance to him, but it will draw attention to their guilt and take them
captive.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have made your iniquity to be remembered, in
that your transgressions are discovered, so
that in all your doings your sins do appear; because, I say,
that ye are come to
remembrance, ye shall be taken with the hand.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because you have drawn attention to your guilt,
exposing your transgressions, so
that your sins are revealed in all your deeds—because you have come to
remembrance—you shall be taken in hand.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Remove the
diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same:
exalt him
that is low, and
abase him
that is high.
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Remove the
turban, and take off the crown. Things will not remain as they are:
Exalt the lowly and bring low the
exalted.
And thou, son of man,
prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning the
Ammonites, and concerning their reproach; even say thou, The sword, the sword is drawn: for the slaughter it is
furbished, to
consume because of the
glittering:
Now
prophesy, son of man, and declare
that this is what the Lord GOD says concerning the
Ammonites and their contempt: ‘A sword! A sword is drawn for slaughter, polished to
consume, to
flash like
lightning—
Whiles they see vanity unto thee, whiles they divine a lie unto thee, to bring thee upon the necks of them that are slain, of the wicked, whose day is come, when their iniquity shall have an end.
while they offer false visions for you and lying divinations about you— to be placed on the necks of the wicked who are slain, whose day has come, the time of their final punishment.
Then say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD, The city sheddeth blood in the midst of it,
that her time may come, and maketh idols against herself to
defile herself.
and tell her
that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘O city who brings her own
doom by
shedding blood within her walls and making idols to
defile herself,
Thou art become guilty in thy blood
that thou hast shed; and hast
defiled thyself in thine idols which thou hast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come even unto thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a
mocking to all countries.
you are guilty of the blood you have shed, and you are
defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a close and have come to the end of your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations and a
mockery to all the lands.
Those
that be near, and those
that be far from thee, shall
mock thee, which art infamous and much
vexed.
Those near and far will
mock you, O infamous city, full of
turmoil.
In thee are men
that carry tales to shed blood: and in thee they eat upon the mountains: in the midst of thee they commit
lewdness.
In thee have they discovered their fathers’ nakedness: in thee have they humbled her
that was set apart for
pollution.
In you they have uncovered the nakedness of their fathers; in you they
violate women during their
menstrual impurity.
Can thine heart
endure, or can thine hands be strong, in the days
that I shall deal with thee? I the LORD have spoken it, and will do it.
Will your courage
endure or your hands be strong in the day I deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will act.
And thou shalt take thine inheritance in
thyself in the sight of the heathen, and thou shalt know
that I am the LORD.
And when you have
defiled yourself in the eyes of the nations, then you will know
that I am the LORD.’”
As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall ye be melted in the midst thereof; and ye shall know
that I the LORD have poured out my
fury upon you.
As silver is melted in a furnace, so you will be melted within the city. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have poured out My wrath upon you.’”
Son of man, say unto her, Thou art the land
that is not
cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of
indignation.
“Son of man, say to her, ‘In the day of
indignation, you are a land
that has not been
cleansed, upon which no rain has fallen.’
Her priests have
violated my law, and have
profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and
profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have
hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am
profaned among them.
Her priests do violence to My law and
profane My holy things. They make no distinction between the holy and the common, and they fail to distinguish between the clean and the unclean. They disregard My Sabbaths, so
that I am
profaned among them.
And I sought for a man among them,
that should make up the
hedge, and stand in the
gap before me for the land,
that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
I searched for a man among them to repair the wall and stand in the
gap before Me on behalf of the land, so
that I should not destroy it. But I found no one.
Thus she committed her whoredoms with them, with all them
that were the chosen men of Assyria, and with all on whom she
doted: with all their idols she
defiled herself.
She offered sexual favors to all the
elite of Assyria. She
defiled herself with all the idols of those for whom she
lusted.
Then I saw
that she was
defiled,
that they took both one way,
And I saw
that she too had
defiled herself; both of them had taken the same path.
And
that she increased her whoredoms: for when she saw men pourtrayed upon the wall, the images of the Chaldeans pourtrayed with
vermilion,
For she
doted upon their
paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of
asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.
Thus will I make thy
lewdness to cease from thee, and thy
whoredom brought from the land of Egypt: so
that thou shalt not lift up thine eyes unto them, nor remember Egypt any more.
So I will put an end to your
indecency and
prostitution, which began in the land of Egypt, and you will not lift your eyes to them or remember Egypt anymore.’
And they shall deal with thee
hatefully, and shall take away all thy labour, and shall leave thee naked and bare: and the nakedness of thy whoredoms shall be discovered, both thy
lewdness and thy whoredoms.
They will treat you with hatred, take all for which you have worked, and leave you naked and bare, so
that the shame of your
prostitution will be exposed. Your
indecency and
promiscuity That they have committed
adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committed
adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass for them through the fire, to
devour them.
For they have committed
adultery, and blood is on their hands. They have committed
adultery with their idols. They have even sacrificed their children, whom they bore to Me, in the fire as food for their idols.
Moreover this they have done unto me: they have
defiled my sanctuary in the same day, and have
profaned my sabbaths.
They have also done this to Me: On
that very same day, they
defiled My sanctuary and
profaned My Sabbaths.
And
furthermore,
that ye have sent for men to come from far, unto whom a
messenger was sent; and, lo, they came: for whom thou
didst wash
thyself, paintedst thy eyes, and deckedst
thyself with ornaments,
Furthermore, you sisters sent messengers for men who came from
afar; and behold, when they arrived, you bathed for them, painted your eyes, and adorned
yourself with
jewelry.
Then said I unto her
that was old in
adulteries, Will they now commit whoredoms with her, and she with them?
Then I said of her who had grown old in
adulteries: ‘Now let them use her as a
prostitute, for
that is all she is!’
Yet they went in unto her, as they go in unto a woman
that playeth the
harlot: so went they in unto Aholah and unto
Aholibah, the
lewd women.
And the righteous men, they shall judge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women that shed blood; because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.
But righteous men will sentence them to the punishment of those who commit
adultery and
bloodshed, because they are adulteresses with blood on their hands.
Thus will I cause
lewdness to cease out of the land,
that all women may be taught not to do after your
lewdness.
And they shall
recompense your
lewdness upon you, and ye shall bear the sins of your idols: and ye shall know
that I am the Lord GOD.
They will repay you for your
indecency, and you will bear the consequences of your sins of
idolatry. Then you will know
that I am the Lord GOD.’”
And utter a parable unto the
rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it:
Now speak a parable to this
rebellious house and tell them
that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Put the pot on the fire; put it on and pour in the water.
That it might cause
fury to come up to take
vengeance; I have set her blood upon the top of a rock,
that it should not be covered.
In order to
stir up wrath and take
vengeance, I have placed her blood on the bare rock, so
that it would not be covered.’
Then set it empty upon the coals thereof,
that the brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and
that the
filthiness of it may be
molten in it,
that the
scum of it may be consumed.
Set the empty pot on its coals until it becomes hot and its copper glows. Then its impurity will
melt within; its
rust will be consumed.
And the people said unto me,
Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us,
that thou doest so?
Then the people asked me, “Won’t you tell us what these things you are doing mean to us?”
Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will
profane my sanctuary, the
excellency of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and
that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall fall by the sword.
Tell the house of Israel
that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I am about to
desecrate My sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and the delight of your soul. And the sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.’
Thus
Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all
that he hath done shall ye do: and when this cometh, ye shall know
that I am the Lord GOD.
‘Thus
Ezekiel will be a sign for you; you will do everything
that he has done. When this happens, you will know
that I am the Lord GOD.’
Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and
that whereupon they set their minds, their sons and their daughters,
And you, son of man, know
that on the day I take away their
stronghold, their pride and joy—the desire of their eyes which
uplifted their souls—and their sons and daughters as well,
That he that escapeth in that day shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears?
on
that day a
fugitive will come and tell you the news.
In
that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more
dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know
that I am the LORD.
On
that day your mouth will be opened to him who has escaped; you will speak and no longer be
mute. So you will be a sign to them, and they will know
that I am the LORD.”
And I will make Rabbah a stable for camels, and the
Ammonites a couchingplace for flocks: and ye shall know
that I am the LORD.
I will make Rabbah a pasture for camels, and
Ammon a resting place for sheep. Then you will know
that I am the LORD.’
Behold, therefore I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and will deliver thee for a
spoil to the heathen; and I will cut thee off from the people, and I will cause thee to perish out of the countries: I will destroy thee; and thou shalt know
that I am the LORD.
therefore I will indeed stretch out My hand against you and give you as
plunder to the nations. I will cut you off from the peoples and
exterminate you from the countries. I will destroy you, and you will know
that I am the LORD.’
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because
that Moab and
Seir do say, Behold, the house of Judah is like unto all the heathen;
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because Moab and
Seir said, “Look, the house of Judah is like all the other nations,”
Unto the men of the east with the
Ammonites, and will give them in possession,
that the
Ammonites may not be remembered among the nations.
I will give it along with the
Ammonites as a possession to the people of the East, so
that the
Ammonites will no longer be remembered among the nations.
And I will
execute judgments upon Moab; and they shall know
that I am the LORD.
So I will
execute judgments on Moab, and they will know
that I am the LORD.’
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because
that Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking
vengeance, and hath greatly
offended, and
revenged himself upon them;
This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because
Edom acted vengefully against the house of Judah, and in so doing
incurred grievous guilt,
And it came to pass in the
eleventh year, in the first day of the month,
that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
In the
eleventh month of the
twelfth year, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Son of man, because
that Tyrus hath said against Jerusalem,
Aha, she is broken
that was the gates of the people: she is turned unto me: I shall be
replenished, now she is laid waste:
“Son of man, because Tyre has said of Jerusalem, ‘
Aha! The gate to the nations is broken; it has
swung open to me; now
that she lies in ruins I will be filled,’
And her daughters which are in the field shall be slain by the sword; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
and the villages on her mainland will be slain by the sword. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’
And they shall take up a
lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed,
that wast inhabited of
seafaring men, the
renowned city, which
wast strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, which cause their terror to be on all
that haunt it!
Then they will
lament for you, saying, “How you have perished, O city of
renown inhabited by
seafaring men— she who was powerful on the sea, along with her people, who imposed terror on all peoples!
Now shall the isles
tremble in the day of thy fall;
yea, the isles
that are in the sea shall be troubled at thy departure.
Now the coastlands
tremble on the day of your
downfall; the islands in the sea are dismayed by your
demise.”’
For thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall make thee a
desolate city, like the cities
that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and great waters shall cover thee;
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘When I make you a
desolate city like other deserted cities, and when I raise up the deep against you so
that the mighty waters cover you,
When I shall bring thee down with them
that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in places
desolate of old, with them
that go down to the pit,
that thou be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living;
then I will bring you down with those who descend to the Pit, to the people of antiquity. I will make you dwell in the earth below like the ancient ruins, with those who descend to the Pit, so
that you will no longer be inhabited or set in
splendor in the land of the living.
And say unto Tyrus, O thou
that art
situate at the entry of the sea, which art a merchant of the people for many isles, Thus saith the Lord GOD; O Tyrus, thou hast said, I am of perfect beauty.
Tell Tyre, who dwells at the
gateway to the sea, merchant of the peoples on many coasts,
that this is what the Lord GOD says: You have said, O Tyre, ‘I am perfect in beauty.’
Fine linen with
broidered work from Egypt was
that which thou spreadest forth to be thy sail; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was
that which covered thee.
Of
embroidered fine linen from Egypt they made your sail, which served as your
banner. Of blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah they made your
awning.
The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy mariners: thy wise men, O Tyrus, that were in thee, were thy pilots.
The men of
Sidon and Arvad were your
oarsmen. Your men of skill, O Tyre, were there as your captains.
Thy riches, and thy fairs, thy
merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the occupiers of thy
merchandise, and all thy men of war,
that are in thee, and in all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of thy ruin.
Your wealth, wares, and
merchandise, your sailors, captains, and shipwrights, your merchants and all the warriors within you, with all the other people on board, will sink into the heart of the sea on the day of your
downfall.
And all
that handle the
oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships, they shall stand upon the land;
All who handle the oars will
abandon their ships. The sailors and all the captains of the sea will stand on the shore.
Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God:
“Son of man, tell the ruler of Tyre that this is what the Lord GOD says: Your heart is proud, and you have said, ‘I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods in the heart of the sea.’ Yet you are a man and not a god, though you have regarded your heart as that of a god.
Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee:
Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; no secret is hidden from you!
They shall bring thee down to the pit, and thou shalt die the deaths of them that are slain in the midst of the seas.
They will bring you down to the Pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the seas.
Wilt thou yet say before him
that slayeth thee, I am God? but thou shalt be a man, and no God, in the hand of him
that slayeth thee.
Will you still say, ‘I am a god,’ in the presence of those who
slay you? You will be only a man, not a god, in the hands of those who wound you.
Son of man, take up a
lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.
“Son of man, take up a
lament for the king of Tyre and tell him
that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
Thou hast been in
Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the
sardius,
topaz, and the
diamond, the
beryl, the
onyx, and the
jasper, the
sapphire, the
emerald, and the
carbuncle, and gold: the
workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day
that thou
wast created.
You were in
Eden, the garden of God. Every kind of precious stone adorned you:
ruby,
topaz, and
diamond,
beryl,
onyx, and
jasper,
sapphire,
turquoise, and
emerald. Your mountings and settings were crafted in gold, prepared on the day of your creation.
Thou art the
anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou
wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
You were
anointed as a
guardian cherub, for I had ordained you. You were on the holy mountain of God; you walked among the
fiery stones.
Thou
wast perfect in thy ways from the day
that thou
wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
From the day you were created you were
blameless in your ways— until wickedness was found in you.
Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
Your heart grew proud of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom because of your
splendor; so I cast you to the earth; I made you a
spectacle before kings.
Thou hast
defiled thy
sanctuaries by the multitude of thine
iniquities, by the iniquity of thy
traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall
devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them
that behold thee.
By the multitude of your
iniquities and the
dishonesty of your trading you have
profaned your
sanctuaries. So I made fire come from within you, and it consumed you. I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the eyes of all who saw you.
All they
that know thee among the people shall be
astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
All the nations who know you are
appalled over you. You have come to a
horrible end and will be no more.’”
And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Zidon; and I will be
glorified in the midst of thee: and they shall know
that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be
sanctified in her.
And you are to declare
that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I am against you, O
Sidon, and I will be
glorified within you. They will know
that I am the LORD when I
execute judgments against her and
demonstrate My
holiness through her.
For I will send into her
pestilence, and blood into her street; and the wounded shall be judged in the midst of her by the sword upon her on every side; and they shall know
that I am the LORD.
I will send a plague against her and shed blood in her streets; the slain will fall within her, while the sword is against her on every side. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
