Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
For she leaves her eggs on the ground and lets them warm in the sand.
And forgetteth that
the foot may
crush them, or that
the wild beast may break
them.
She forgets that a foot may
crush them, or a wild animal may
trample them.
She is
hardened against her young ones, as though
they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;
She treats her young harshly, as if not her own, with no
concern that her labor was in vain.
What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
Yet when she proudly spreads her wings, she laughs at the horse and its rider.
Hath thou given
the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with
thunder?
Do you give strength to
the horse or
adorn his neck with a
mane?
Canst thou make him afraid as a
grasshopper?
the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
He paws in the valley and rejoices in his strength; he charges into battle.
He mocketh at fear, and is not
affrighted; neither turneth he back from
the sword.
He laughs at fear,
frightened of nothing; he does not turn back from
the sword.
He swalloweth
the ground with fierceness and
rage: neither believeth he that it is
the sound of
the trumpet.
Trembling with excitement, he devours
the distance; he cannot stand still when
the ram’s horn sounds.
At
the blast of
the horn, he snorts with
fervor. He catches
the scent of battle from
afar—
the shouts of captains and
the cry of war.
Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward
the south?
Does
the hawk take flight by your understanding and spread his wings toward
the south?
Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
Does
the eagle
soar at your command and make his nest on high?
She dwelleth and abideth on
the rock, upon
the crag of
the rock, and
the strong place.
From
thence she seeketh
the prey, and her eyes behold
afar off.
From
there he
spies out food; his eyes see it from
afar.
Her young ones also
suck up blood: and where
the slain are,
there is she.
His young ones feast on blood; and where the slain are, there he is.”
Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,
And the LORD said to Job:
Shall he that contendeth with
the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
“Will
the faultfinder
contend with
the Almighty? Let him who argues with God give an answer.”
Then Job answered the LORD, and said,
Then Job answered the LORD:
Behold, I am
vile; what shall I answer
thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.
“Behold, I am insignificant. How can I reply to You? I place my hand over my mouth.
Then answered
the LORD unto Job out of
the whirlwind, and said,
Then the LORD answered Job out of
the whirlwind and said:
Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of
thee, and declare thou unto me.
“Now
brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall inform Me.
Cast abroad
the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and
abase him.
Unleash the fury of your wrath; look on every proud man and bring him low.
Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and
tread down
the wicked in
their place.
Look on every proud man and humble him;
trample the wicked where
they stand.
Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
Bury them together in
the dust; imprison
them in
the grave.
Then will I also
confess unto
thee that thine own right hand can save
thee.
Then I will
confess to you that your own right hand can save you.
Behold now
behemoth, which I made with
thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
Look at
Behemoth, which I made along with you. He feeds on grass like an ox.
Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in
the navel of his
belly.
See
the strength of his loins and
the power in
the muscles of his
belly.
He moveth his tail like a
cedar:
the sinews of his stones are
wrapped together.
He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
He is the foremost of God’s works; only his Maker can draw the sword against him.
Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
The hills yield him their produce, while all the beasts of the field play nearby.
He lieth under
the shady trees, in
the covert of
the reed, and fens.
He lies under
the lotus plants, hidden among
the reeds of
the marsh.
The shady trees cover him with
their shadow;
the willows of
the brook compass him about.
Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
Though
the river rages,
Behemoth is unafraid; he remains secure, though
the Jordan surges to his mouth.
Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?
Will he
beg you for mercy or speak to you softly?
Will he make a covenant with
thee?
wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?
Will he make a covenant with you to take him as a slave for life?
Shall
the companions make a
banquet of him? shall
they part him among
the merchants?
Will traders
barter for him or divide him among
the merchants?
Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
If you lay a hand on him, you will remember
the battle and never
repeat it!
Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
Surely hope of overcoming him is false. Is not
the sight of him
overwhelming?
None is so fierce that
dare stir him up: who
then is able to stand before me?
No one is so fierce as to
rouse Leviathan.
Then who is able to stand against Me?
Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him?
whatsoever is under
the whole heaven is mine.
Who has given to Me that I should repay him? Everything under heaven is Mine.
Who can discover
the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double
bridle?
Who can strip off his outer coat? Who can approach him with a
bridle?
Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.
Who can open his jaws, ringed by his
fearsome teeth?
One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
One scale is so near to another that no air can pass between them.
They are joined one to another,
they stick together, that
they cannot be
sundered.
They are joined to one another;
they clasp and cannot be separated.
By his neesings a light
doth shine, and his eyes are like
the eyelids of
the morning.
The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
The folds of his flesh are
tightly joined;
they are firm and immovable.
His chest is as hard as a rock, as hard as a lower
millstone!
When he raiseth up himself,
the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings
they purify themselves.
The sword that reaches him has no effect, nor does
the spear or
dart or
arrow.
A club is regarded as straw, and he laughs at
the sound of
the lance.
Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon
the mire.
He maketh
the deep to
boil like a pot: he maketh
the sea like a pot of
ointment.
He maketh a path to
shine after him; one would think
the deep to be
hoary.
He leaves a
glistening wake behind him; one would think
the deep had white hair!
Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
Nothing on earth is his equal— a creature devoid of fear!
He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.
He looks down on all
the haughty; he is king over all
the proud.”
Then Job answered the LORD, and said,
Then Job replied to the LORD:
I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be
withholden from
thee.
“I know that You can do all things and that no plan of Yours can be
thwarted.
Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.
You asked, ‘Who is this who conceals My counsel without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.
Hear, I
beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of
thee, and declare thou unto me.
You said, ‘
Listen now, and I will speak. I will question you, and you shall inform Me.’
I have heard of
thee by
the hearing of
the ear: but now mine eye
seeth thee.
My ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You.
Wherefore I
abhor myself, and
repent in dust and ashes.
Therefore I retract my words, and I
repent in dust and ashes.”
And it was so, that after
the LORD had spoken
these words unto Job,
the LORD said to Eliphaz
the Temanite, My wrath is
kindled against
thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me
the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.
After
the LORD had spoken
these words to Job, He said to Eliphaz
the Temanite, “My wrath is
kindled against you and your two friends. For you have not spoken about Me accurately, as My servant Job has.
Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for
yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me
the thing which is right, like my servant Job.
So now, take seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and sacrifice a burnt offering for
yourselves.
Then My servant Job will pray for you, for I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken accurately about Me, as My servant Job has.”
So Eliphaz
the Temanite and
Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar
the Naamathite went, and did according as
the LORD commanded
them:
the LORD also accepted Job.
So Eliphaz
the Temanite,
Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar
the Naamathite went and did as
the LORD had told
them; and
the LORD accepted Job’s request.
And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.
After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his prosperity and doubled his former possessions.
Then came
there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all
they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and
they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all
the evil that
the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an
earring of gold.
All his brothers and sisters and prior acquaintances came and
dined with him in his house.
They consoled him and comforted him over all
the adversity that
the LORD had brought upon him. And each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring.
So
the LORD blessed
the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she
asses.
So
the LORD blessed Job’s latter days more than his first. He owned 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female
donkeys.
And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch.
He named his first daughter Jemimah, his second Keziah, and his third Keren-happuch.
And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.
No women as beautiful as Job’s daughters could be found in all the land, and their father granted them an inheritance among their brothers.
After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.
After this, Job lived 140 years and saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.
Blessed is
the man that walketh not in
the counsel of
the ungodly, nor standeth in
the way of sinners, nor sitteth in
the seat of
the scornful.
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or set foot on the path of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers.
But his delight is in
the law of
the LORD; and in his law
doth he
meditate day and night.
But his delight is in the Law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by
the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and
whatsoever he doeth shall
prosper.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither, and who prospers in all he does.
The ungodly are not so: but are like
the chaff which
the wind driveth away.
Not so
the wicked! For
they are like
chaff driven off by
the wind.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
For the LORD guards the path of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
Why do
the heathen
rage, and
the people imagine a vain thing?
Why do
the nations
rage and
the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of
the earth set
themselves, and
the rulers take counsel together, against
the LORD, and against his
anointed, saying,
The kings of
the earth take
their stand and
the rulers gather together, against
the LORD and against His
Anointed One:
Let us break
their bands
asunder, and cast away
their cords from us.
“Let us break Their chains and cast away Their cords.”
He that sitteth in
the heavens shall
laugh:
the Lord shall have
them in
derision.
The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord taunts them.
Then shall he speak unto
them in his wrath, and
vex them in his
sore displeasure.
Then He rebukes
them in His anger, and terrifies
them in His
fury:
I will declare
the decree:
the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I
begotten thee.
I will
proclaim the decree spoken to Me by
the LORD: “You are My Son;
today I have become Your Father.
Ask of me, and I shall give
thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and
the uttermost parts of
the earth for thy possession.
Ask Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance, the ends of the earth Your possession.
Thou shalt break
them with a rod of iron; thou shalt
dash them in pieces like a
potter’s vessel.
You will break
them with an iron
scepter; You will
shatter them like pottery.”
Be wise now
therefore, O ye kings: be
instructed, ye judges of
the earth.
Therefore be wise, O kings; be
admonished, O judges of
the earth.
Kiss the Son, lest he be
angry, and ye perish from
the way, when his wrath is
kindled but a little. Blessed are all
they that put
their trust in him.
Kiss the Son, lest He be
angry and you perish in your rebellion, when His wrath ignites in an instant. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.
LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.
O LORD, how my foes have increased! How many rise up against me!
Many
there be which say of my soul,
There is no help for him in God.
Selah.
Many say of me, “God will not deliver him.”
Selah But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
But You, O LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head.
I
cried unto
the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill.
Selah.
To
the LORD I cry
aloud, and He answers me from His holy mountain.
Selah I laid me down and
slept; I
awaked; for
the LORD sustained me.
I lie down and sleep; I
wake again, for
the LORD sustains me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
I will not fear the myriads set against me on every side.
Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast
smitten all mine enemies upon
the cheek bone; thou hast broken
the teeth of
the ungodly.
Arise, O LORD! Save me, O my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.
Salvation belongeth unto
the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people.
Selah.
Salvation belongs to
the LORD; may Your blessing be on Your people.
Selah But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.
Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for Himself; the LORD hears when I call to Him.
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.
Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the LORD.
