This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.
This is the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Judah.
As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.
But the descendants of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. So to this day the Jebusites live there among the descendants of Judah.
And the border of the children of Ephraim according to their families was thus: even the border of their inheritance on the east side was Ataroth-addar, unto Beth-horon the upper;
This was the territory of the descendants of Ephraim by their clans: The border of their inheritance went from Ataroth-addar in the east to Upper Beth-horon
The border went out from Tappuah westward unto the river Kanah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim by their families.
From Tappuah the border went westward to the
Brook of Kanah and ended at the Sea.
This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Ephraim,
But they did not drive out the
Canaanites who lived in
Gezer. So the
Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites to
this day, but they are forced laborers.
There was also a lot for the rest of the children of
Manasseh by their families; for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of
Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of
Manasseh the son of Joseph by their families.
So
this allotment was for the rest of the descendants of
Manasseh—the clans of Abiezer, Helek, Asriel,
Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida. These are the other male descendants of the clans of
Manasseh son of Joseph.
Yet the children of
Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the
Canaanites would dwell in that land.
But the descendants of
Manasseh were unable to occupy these cities, because the
Canaanites were determined to stay in
this land.
And the border was drawn thence, and compassed the corner of the sea southward, from the hill that lieth before Beth-horon southward; and the goings out thereof were at Kirjath-
baal, which is Kirjath-jearim, a city of the children of Judah:
this was the west quarter.
On the west side the border curved southward from the hill facing Beth-horon on the south and came out at Kiriath-
baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), a city of the sons of Judah.
This was the western side.
And the border passed along to the side of Beth-hoglah northward: and the outgoings of the border were at the north bay of the salt sea at the south end of Jordan: this was the south coast.
The border continued to the northern slope of Beth-hoglah and came out at the northern bay of the Salt Sea, at the mouth of the Jordan. This was the southern border.
And Jordan was the border of it on the east side. This was the inheritance of the children of Benjamin, by the coasts thereof round about, according to their families.
On the east side the border was the Jordan. These were the borders around the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin.
And Zelah, Eleph, and Jebusi, which is Jerusalem, Gibeath, and Kirjath; fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin according to their families.
Zelah, Haeleph,
Jebus (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah, and Kiriath-jearim—fourteen cities, along with their villages.
This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Benjamin.
And all the villages that were round about these cities to Baalath-beer, Ramath of the south.
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of
Simeon according to their families.
and all the villages surrounding these cities as far as Baalath-beer (
Ramah of the Negev).
This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of
Simeon.
This is the inheritance of the children of
Zebulun according to their families, these cities with their villages.
This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of
Zebulun, including these cities and their villages.
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of
Issachar according to their families, the cities and their villages.
This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of
Issachar, including these cities and their villages.
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families, these cities with their villages.
This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of Asher, including these cities and their villages.
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of
Naphtali according to their families, the cities and their villages.
This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of
Naphtali, including these cities and their villages.
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of
Dan according to their families, these cities with their villages.
This was the inheritance of the clans of the tribe of
Dan, including these cities and their villages.
And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the other half tribe of
Manasseh they gave Golan in
Bashan with her suburbs, to be a city of refuge for the
slayer; and Beesh-terah with her suburbs; two cities.
This is what the
Levite clans of the Gershonites were given: From the half-tribe of
Manasseh they were given Golan in
Bashan, a city of refuge for the
manslayer, and Beeshterah—two cities, together with their pasturelands.
And unto the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of
Zebulun, Jokneam with her suburbs, and Kartah with her suburbs,
This is what the Merarite clan (the rest of the Levites) were given:
These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus were all these cities.
Each of these cities had its own surrounding pasturelands; this was true for all the cities.
Ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day, but have kept the charge of the commandment of the LORD your God.
All this time you have not deserted your brothers, up to this very day, but have kept the charge given you by the LORD your God.
Now to the one half of the tribe of
Manasseh Moses had given possession in
Bashan: but unto the other half thereof gave Joshua among their brethren on
this side Jordan westward. And when Joshua sent them away also unto their tents, then he blessed them,
(To the half-tribe of
Manasseh Moses had given land in
Bashan, and to the other half Joshua gave land on the west side of the Jordan among their brothers.) When Joshua sent them to their homes he blessed them,
And when the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at
Shiloh, to go up to war against them.
And when they heard
this, the whole congregation of Israel assembled at
Shiloh to go to war against them.
Thus saith the whole congregation of the LORD, What
trespass is
this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away
this day from following the LORD, in that ye have builded you an altar, that ye might
rebel this day against the LORD?
“
This is what the whole congregation of the LORD says: ‘What is
this breach of faith you have committed
today against the God of Israel by turning away from the LORD and building for
yourselves an altar, that you might
rebel against the LORD
this day?
Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we are not
cleansed until
this day, although there was a plague in the congregation of the LORD,
Was not the sin of Peor enough for us, from which we have not
cleansed ourselves to
this day? It even brought a plague upon the congregation of the LORD.
But that ye must turn away
this day from following the LORD? and it will be, seeing ye
rebel to day against the LORD, that to
morrow he will be
wroth with the whole congregation of Israel.
And now, would you turn away from the LORD? If you
rebel today against the LORD,
tomorrow He will be
angry with the whole congregation of Israel.
The LORD God of gods, the LORD God of gods, he knoweth, and Israel he shall know; if it be in rebellion, or if in
transgression against the LORD, (save us not
this day,)
“The LORD, the Mighty One, is God! The LORD, the Mighty One, is God! He knows, and may Israel also know. If
this was in rebellion or breach of faith against the LORD, do not
spare us
today.
And if we have not rather done it for fear of this thing, saying, In time to come your children might speak unto our children, saying, What have ye to do with the LORD God of Israel?
But in fact we have done this for fear that in the future your descendants might say to ours, ‘What have you to do with the LORD, the God of Israel?
Therefore said we, that it shall be, when they should so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may say again, Behold the pattern of the altar of the LORD, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices; but it is a witness between us and you.
Therefore we said, ‘If they ever say
this to us or to our descendants, we will answer: Look at the
replica of the altar of the LORD that our fathers made, not for burnt offerings or sacrifices, but as a witness between us and you.’
God
forbid that we should
rebel against the LORD, and turn
this day from following the LORD, to build an altar for burnt offerings, for meat offerings, or for sacrifices, beside the altar of the LORD our God that is before his tabernacle.
Far be it from us to
rebel against the LORD and turn away from Him
today by building an altar for burnt offerings, grain offerings, or sacrifices, other than the altar of the LORD our God, which stands before His tabernacle.”
And
Phinehas the son of
Eleazar the priest said unto the children of
Reuben, and to the children of
Gad, and to the children of
Manasseh,
This day we perceive that the LORD is among us, because ye have not committed
this trespass against the LORD: now ye have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the LORD.
Phinehas son of
Eleazar the priest said to the descendants of
Reuben,
Gad, and
Manasseh, “
Today we know that the LORD is among us, because you have not committed
this breach of faith against Him. Consequently, you have delivered the Israelites from the hand of the LORD.”
But
cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto
this day.
Instead, you shall hold fast to the LORD your God, as you have done to this day.
For the LORD hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath been able to stand before you unto this day.
The LORD has driven out great and powerful nations before you, and to this day no one can stand against you.
Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and
traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off
this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
know for sure that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations before you. Instead, they will become for you a
snare and a
trap, a
scourge in your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from
this good land that the LORD your God has given you.
And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.
Now behold,
today I am going the way of all the earth, and you know with all your heart and soul that not one of the good promises the LORD your God made to you has failed. Everything was fulfilled for you; not one promise has failed.
Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you; so shall the LORD bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.
But just as every good thing the LORD your God promised you has come to pass, likewise the LORD will bring upon you the
calamity He has threatened, until He has destroyed you from
this good land He has given you.
When ye have
transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed
yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the LORD be
kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.
If you
transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and you will quickly perish from
this good land He has given you.”
And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.
And Joshua said to all the people, “
This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Long ago your fathers, including Terah the father of Abraham and
Nahor, lived beyond the Euphrates and worshiped other gods.
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you
this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the
Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for
yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the
Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!”
And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.
And Joshua said to all the people, “You see this stone. It will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words the LORD has spoken to us, and it will be a witness against you if you ever deny your God.”
And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
The Benjamites, however, failed to drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. So to this day the Jebusites live there among the Benjamites.
And the man went into the land of the
Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof
Luz: which is the name thereof unto
this day.
And the man went to the land of the
Hittites, built a city, and called it
Luz, which is its name to
this day.
And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?
and you are not to make a covenant with the people of
this land, but you shall
tear down their altars.’ Yet you have not obeyed My voice. What is
this you have done?
And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel; and he said, Because that
this people hath
transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not
hearkened unto my voice;
So the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He said, “Because
this nation has
transgressed the covenant I laid down for their fathers and has not
heeded My voice,
That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.
In this way I will test whether Israel will keep the way of the LORD by walking in it as their fathers did.”
And
Deborah said unto
Barak, Up; for
this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the LORD gone out before thee? So
Barak went down from mount
Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
Then
Deborah said to
Barak, “Arise, for
this is the day that the LORD has delivered Sisera into your hand. Has not the LORD gone before you?” So
Barak came down from Mount
Tabor with ten thousand men following him.
That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of
bondage;
He sent them a prophet, who told them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
And
Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all
this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath
forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
“Please, my Lord,”
Gideon replied, “if the LORD is with us, why has all
this happened to us? And where are all His wonders of which our fathers told us, saying, ‘Has not the LORD brought us up out of Egypt?’ But now the LORD has
forsaken us and delivered us into the hand of
Midian.”
And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?
The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel from the hand of
Midian. Am I not sending you?”
Depart not hence, I pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will
tarry until thou come again.
Please do not depart from this place until I return to You. Let me bring my offering and set it before You.” And the LORD said, “I will stay until you return.”
And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the
unleavened cakes, and lay them upon
this rock, and pour out the
broth. And he did so.
And the angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the
unleavened bread, lay them on
this rock, and pour out the
broth.” And
Gideon did so.
Then
Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovah-shalom: unto
this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites.
So
Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD Is Peace. To
this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of
this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second
bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the
grove which thou shalt cut down.
Then build a proper altar to the LORD your God on the top of
this stronghold. And with the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down, take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering.”
And they said one to another, Who hath done
this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said,
Gideon the son of
Joash hath done
this thing.
“Who did
this?” they said to one another. And after they had investigated thoroughly, they were told, “
Gideon son of
Joash did it.”
And
Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but
this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but
this once with the
fleece; let it now be dry only upon the
fleece, and upon all the ground let there be
dew.
Then
Gideon said to God, “Do not be
angry with me; let me speak one more time. Please allow me one more test with the
fleece.
This time let it be dry, and the ground covered with
dew.”
And the LORD said unto
Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee,
This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of
whomsoever I say unto thee,
This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.
Then the LORD said to
Gideon, “There are still too many people. Take them down to the water, and I will
sift them for you there. If I say to you, ‘
This one shall go with you,’ he shall go. But if I say, ‘
This one shall not go with you,’ he shall not go.”
And his fellow answered and said,
This is nothing else save the sword of
Gideon the son of
Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered
Midian, and all the host.
His friend replied: “
This is nothing less than the sword of
Gideon son of
Joash, the
Israelite. God has delivered
Midian and the whole camp into his hand.”
And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did
chide with him sharply.
Then the men of Ephraim said to
Gideon, “Why have you done
this to us? Why did you fail to call us when you went to fight against
Midian?” And they
contended with him violently.
God hath delivered into your hands the princes of
Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was
abated toward him, when he had said that.
God has delivered Oreb and Zeeb, the two princes of
Midian, into your hand. What was I able to do compared to you?” When he had said
this, their anger against him
subsided.
And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.
So
Gideon told the men of Penuel, “When I return in triumph, I will
tear down
this tower!”
And
Gideon the son of
Joash returned from battle before the sun was up,
And
Gideon made an
ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a
whoring after it: which thing became a
snare unto
Gideon, and to his house.
From all
this Gideon made an
ephod, which he placed in Ophrah, his hometown. But soon all Israel
prostituted themselves by worshiping it there, and it became a
snare to
Gideon and his household.
Thus was
Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of
Gideon.
In
this way
Midian was subdued before the Israelites and did not raise its head again. So the land had rest for forty years in the days of
Gideon,
And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount
Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and
cried, and said unto them,
Hearken unto me, ye men of
Shechem, that God may
hearken unto you.
And ye are risen up against my father’s house
this day, and have slain his sons,
threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made
Abimelech, the son of his
maidservant, king over the men of
Shechem, because he is your brother;)
but you have risen up against my father’s house
this day and killed his seventy sons on a single stone, and you have made
Abimelech, the son of his
maidservant, king over the leaders of
Shechem because he is your brother—
if you have acted faithfully and
honestly toward Jerubbaal and his house
this day, then may you
rejoice in
Abimelech, and he in you.
And the men of
Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they
robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told
Abimelech.
And would to God
this people were under my hand! then would I remove
Abimelech. And he said to
Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.
If only
this people were under my authority, I would remove
Abimelech; I would say to him, ‘Muster your army and come out!’”
Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth,
wherewith thou saidst, Who is
Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not
this the people that thou hast
despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.
“Where is your
gloating now?” Zebul replied. “You said, ‘Who is
Abimelech that we should serve him?’ Are these not the people you
ridiculed? Go out now and fight them!”
And it came to pass on the
morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told
Abimelech.
The next day the people of
Shechem went out into the fields, and
this was reported to
Abimelech.
And when all the men of the tower of
Shechem heard that, they entered into an hold of the house of the god Berith.
On hearing of
this, all the leaders in the tower of
Shechem entered the inner chamber of the temple of El-berith.
Thus God rendered the wickedness of
Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in
slaying his seventy brethren:
In
this way God repaid the wickedness that
Abimelech had done to his father in murdering his seventy brothers.
And he had thirty sons that
rode on thirty
ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havoth-
jair unto
this day, which are in the land of
Gilead.
He had thirty sons who
rode on thirty
donkeys. And they had thirty towns in the land of
Gilead, which to
this day are called Havvoth-
jair.
And the children of Israel said unto the LORD, We have
sinned: do thou unto us
whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee,
this day.
“We have
sinned,” the Israelites said to the LORD. “Deal with us as You see fit; but please deliver us
today!”
And the elders of
Gilead said unto
Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of
Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of
Gilead.
They answered
Jephthah, “
This is why we now turn to you, that you may go with us, fight the
Ammonites, and become leader over all of us who live in
Gilead.”
And said unto him, Thus saith
Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of
Ammon:
to tell him, “
This is what
Jephthah says: Israel did not take away the land of Moab or of the
Ammonites.
Wherefore I have not
sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge
this day between the children of Israel and the children of
Ammon.
I have not
sinned against you, but you have done me wrong by
waging war against me. May the LORD, the Judge, decide
today between the Israelites and the
Ammonites.”
And
Jephthah vowed a
vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of
Ammon into mine hands,
And she said unto her father, Let
this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and
bewail my
virginity, I and my fellows.
She also said to her father, “Let me do
this one thing: Let me
wander for two months through the mountains with my friends and
mourn my
virginity.”
And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of
Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me
this day, to fight against me?
When I saw that you would not save me, I risked my life and crossed over to the
Ammonites, and the LORD delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come
today to fight against me?”
For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And
Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.
When the flame went up from the altar to the sky, the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame. When
Manoah and his wife saw
this, they fell facedown to the ground.
But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.
But his wife replied, “If the LORD had intended to kill us, He would not have accepted the burnt offering and the grain offering from our hands, nor would He have shown us all these things or spoken to us this way.”
But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.
(Now his father and mother did not know this was from the LORD, who was seeking an occasion to move against the Philistines; for at that time the Philistines were ruling over Israel.)
And
Samson said concerning them, Now shall I be more
blameless than the Philistines, though I do them a displeasure.
Then the Philistines said, Who hath done
this? And they answered,
Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he had taken his wife, and given her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.
“Who did
this?” the Philistines demanded. “It was
Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite,” they were told. “For his wife was given to his companion.” So the Philistines went up and burned her and her father to death.
And
Samson said unto them, Though ye have done
this, yet will I be
avenged of you, and after that I will cease.
And
Samson told them, “Because you have done
this, I will not rest until I have taken
vengeance upon you.”
Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock Etam, and said to
Samson, Knowest thou not that the Philistines are rulers over us? what is
this that thou hast done unto us? And he said unto them, As they did unto me, so have I done unto them.
In
response, three thousand men of Judah went to the cave at the rock of Etam, and they asked
Samson, “Do you not
realize that the Philistines rule over us? What have you done to us?” “I have done to them what they did to me,” he replied.
But God
clave an hollow place that was in the jaw, and there came water
thereout; and when he had
drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: wherefore he called the name thereof En-hakkore, which is in Lehi unto
this day.
So God opened up the hollow place in Lehi, and water came out of it. When
Samson drank, his strength returned, and he was revived. That is why he named it En-hakkore, and it remains in Lehi to
this day.
And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast
mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.
“How can you say, ‘I love you,’” she asked, “when your heart is not with me?
This is the third time you have
mocked me and failed to
reveal to me the source of your great strength!”
And when
Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up
this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.
When
Delilah realized that he had revealed to her all that was in his heart, she sent
this message to the lords of the Philistines: “Come up once more, for he has revealed to me all that is in his heart.” Then the lords of the Philistines came to her, bringing the money in their hands.
And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to
shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to
afflict him, and his strength went from him.
And having
lulled him to sleep on her
lap, she called a man to
shave off the seven braids of his head. In
this way she began to
subdue him, and his strength left him.
And
Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and
strengthen me, I pray thee, only
this once, O God, that I may be at once
avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
Then
Samson called out to the LORD: “O Lord GOD, please remember me.
Strengthen me, O God, just once more, so that with one
vengeful blow I may pay back the Philistines for my two eyes.”
And the man
Micah had an house of gods, and made an
ephod, and
teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.
Now
this man
Micah had a
shrine, and he made an
ephod and some household idols, and ordained one of his sons as his priest.
And the man departed out of the city from Bethlehemjudah to
sojourn where he could find a place: and he came to mount Ephraim to the house of
Micah, as he journeyed.
This man left the city of
Bethlehem in Judah to settle where he could find a place. And as he traveled, he came to
Micah’s house in the hill country of Ephraim.
When they were by the house of
Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the
Levite: and they turned in thither, and said unto him, Who brought thee
hither? and what makest thou in
this place? and what hast thou here?
And while they were near
Micah’s house, they recognized the voice of the young
Levite; so they went over and asked him, “Who brought you here? What are you doing in
this place? Why are you here?”
And he said unto them, Thus and thus dealeth
Micah with me, and hath
hired me, and I am his priest.
“
Micah has done
this and that for me,” he replied, “and he has
hired me to be his priest.”
