And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.

And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they
cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the

However, a certain man drew his bow without taking special aim, and he struck the king of Israel between the joints of his
armor. So the king said to his
charioteer, “
Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am badly wounded!”

turned from them, and destroyed them not;

For our fathers have
trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have
forsaken him, and have
turned away their faces from the
habitation of the LORD, and
turned their backs.
For our fathers were unfaithful and did evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned Him, turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned their backs on Him.

turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the
remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria.

grasp of the kings of Assyria.
Now be ye not stiffnecked, as your fathers were, but yield
yourselves unto the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he hath
sanctified for ever: and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may
turn away from you.
Now do not
stiffen your necks as your fathers did. Submit to the LORD and come to His sanctuary, which He has consecrated
forever. Serve the LORD your God, so that His fierce anger will
turn away from you.
For if ye
turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find
compassion before them that lead them
captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the LORD your God is
gracious and
merciful, and will not
turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him.

And
Josiah removed all the abominations from all the lands belonging to the Israelites, and he required
everyone in Israel to serve the LORD their God. Throughout his reign they did not
turn aside from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.

Josiah would not
turn his face from him, but
disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and
hearkened not unto the words of

Megiddo.
Josiah, however, did not
turn away from him; instead, in order to
engage him in battle, he
disguised himself. He did not
listen to Neco’s words from the mouth of God, but went to fight him on the Plain of

Necho took
Jehoahaz his brother, and carried him to Egypt.

Let now our rulers of all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter be turned from us.
Let our leaders represent the whole assembly. Then let
everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at an appointed time, together with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God in this matter is
turned away from us.”
But if ye
turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the
uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
but if you return to Me and keep and practice My commandments, then even if your exiles have been banished to the
farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for My Name.’
Then went I up in the night by the
brook, and viewed the wall, and
turned back, and entered by the gate of the valley, and so returned.

And next to him repaired Ezer the son of Jeshua, the ruler of
Mizpah, another piece over against the going up to the armoury at the
turning of the wall.
And next to him, Ezer son of Jeshua, ruler of
Mizpah, repaired another section opposite the
Ascent to the
Armory, near the angle in the wall.
After him
Baruch the son of Zabbai earnestly repaired the other piece, from the

Next to him,
Baruch son of Zabbai
diligently repaired another section, from the angle to the
doorway of the house of Eliashib the high priest.

and Palal son of Uzai made repairs opposite the angle and the tower that juts out from the upper palace of the king near the
courtyard of the guard. Next to him, Pedaiah son of Parosh
Hear, O our God; for we are
despised: and
turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity:
Hear us, O God, for we are
despised.
Turn their
scorn back upon their own heads, and let them be taken as
plunder to a land of captivity.
And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times, From all places whence ye shall return unto us they will be upon you.
At that time the Jews who lived nearby came and told us ten times over, “Wherever you turn, they will attack us.”
Yet thou in thy
manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the
pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the
pillar of fire by night, to
shew them light, and the way wherein they should go.
You in Your great
compassion did not
forsake them in the wilderness. By day the
pillar of cloud never
turned away from guiding them on their path; and by the night the
pillar of fire
illuminated the way they should go.
Nevertheless they were
disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and
slew thy prophets which
testified against them to
turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.
But they were
disobedient and rebelled against You; they
flung Your law behind their backs. They killed Your prophets, who had
admonished them to return to You. They committed terrible blasphemies.
And testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law: yet they dealt proudly, and
hearkened not unto thy commandments, but
sinned against thy judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them;) and withdrew the shoulder, and
hardened their neck, and would not hear.
You
admonished them to
turn back to Your law, but they were
arrogant and disobeyed Your commandments. They
sinned against Your ordinances, by which a man will live if he practices them. They
stubbornly shrugged their shoulders; they
stiffened their necks and would not obey.
For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.
For even while they were in their kingdom, with the abundant goodness that You had given them, and in the
spacious and fertile land that You had set before them, they would not serve You or
turn from their wicked ways.
Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but
hired Balaam against them, that he should
curse them:
howbeit our God
turned the
curse into a blessing.
because they had not met the Israelites with food and water, but had
hired Balaam to call down a
curse against them (although our God had
turned the
curse into a blessing).
Now when every
maid’s
turn was come to go in to king
Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of
myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the
purifying of the women;)
In the twelve months before her
turn to go to King
Xerxes, the
harem regulation required each young woman to receive beauty treatments with oil of
myrrh for six months, and then with perfumes and cosmetics for another six months.
Now when the
turn of
Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of
Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s
chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And
Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.
Now
Esther was the daughter of Abihail, the uncle from whom
Mordecai had adopted her as his own daughter. And when it was her
turn to go to the king, she did not ask for anything except what Hegai, the king’s trusted official in charge of the
harem, had
advised. And
Esther found favor in the eyes of
everyone who saw her.
Now in the
twelfth month, that is, the month
Adar, on the
thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was
turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that
hated them;)
On the
thirteenth day of the
twelfth month, the month of
Adar, the king’s command and edict were to be executed. On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, but their plan was overturned and the Jews overpowered those who
hated them.
As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was
turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from
mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.
as the days on which the Jews gained rest from their enemies and the month in which their sorrow
turned to joy and their
mourning into a
holiday. He wrote that these were to be days of feasting and joy, of sending gifts to one another and to the poor.
And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
Job’s sons would take
turns holding feasts in their homes, and they would
invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light
shine upon it.
If only that day had
turned to darkness! May God above disregard it; may no light
shine upon it.
Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints
wilt thou
turn?
“Call out if you please, but who will answer? To which of the holy ones will you turn?
The paths of their way are turned aside; they go to nothing, and perish.
Caravans turn aside from their routes; they go into the wasteland and perish.
When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and
fro unto the
dawning of the day.
When I lie down I think: ‘When will I get up?’ But the night drags on, and I
toss and
turn until
dawn.
Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou
dost destroy me.
Your hands shaped me and altogether formed me. Would You now turn and destroy me?
look away from him and let him rest, so he can enjoy his day as a
hired hand.
That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?
as you turn your spirit against God and pour such words from your mouth?
God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
God has delivered me to unjust men; He has thrown me to the
clutches of the wicked.
They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.
They have turned night into day, making light seem near in the face of darkness.
All my inward friends
abhorred me: and they whom I loved are
turned against me.
All my best friends
despise me, and those I love have
turned against me.
Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make
haste.
“So my anxious thoughts
compel me to answer, because of the
turmoil within me.
Yet his meat in his
bowels is
turned, it is the gall of asps within him.
yet in his stomach his food
sours into the
venom of cobras within him.
On the left hand, where he
doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:
When He is at work in the north, I cannot behold Him; when He turns to the south, I cannot see Him.
My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.
My feet have followed in His tracks; I have kept His way without turning aside.
But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.
But He is unchangeable, and who can
oppose Him? He does what He desires.
They
turn the
needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.
They
push the
needy off the road and force all the poor of the land into hiding.
He is swift as the waters; their portion is
cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.
They are but
foam on the surface of the water; their portion of the land is
cursed, so that no one
turns toward their vineyards.
As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.
Food may come from the earth, but from below it is transformed as by fire.
And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
And He said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”
I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a
robe and a
diadem.
I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; justice was my
robe and my
turban.
Terrors are
turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my
welfare passeth away as a cloud.
Terrors are turned loose against me; they drive away my dignity as by the wind, and my prosperity has passed like a cloud.
Thou art become cruel to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest
thyself against me.
My
harp also is
turned to
mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that
weep.
If my step hath
turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any
blot hath
cleaved to mine hands;
If my steps have
turned from the path, if my heart has followed my eyes, or if impurity has
stuck to my hands,
That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

wrongdoing and keep him from pride,
All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.
all flesh would perish together and mankind would return to the dust.
Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
because they turned aside from Him and had no regard for any of His ways.
He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.
He opens their ears to correction and commands that they turn from iniquity.
Take
heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than
affliction.
Be careful not to
turn to iniquity, for this you have preferred to
affliction.
And it is
turned round about by his counsels: that they may do
whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.
It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.
The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its hills stand out like the folds of a garment.
He mocketh at fear, and is not
affrighted; neither
turneth he back from the sword.
He laughs at fear,
frightened of nothing; he does not
turn back from the sword.
In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
Strength resides in his neck, and dismay leaps before him.
And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.
After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his prosperity and doubled his former possessions.
O ye sons of men, how long will ye
turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after
leasing?
Selah.
How long, O men, will my honor be
maligned? How long will you love vanity and seek after lies?
Selah Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy
mercies’ sake.
Turn, O LORD, and deliver my soul; save me because of Your loving devotion.
All my enemies will be
ashamed and dismayed; they will
turn back in sudden disgrace.
If he
turn not, he will
whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.
When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.
When my enemies retreat, they
stumble and perish before You.
The wicked shall be
turned into
hell, and all the nations that
forget God.
The wicked will return to
Sheol— all the nations who
forget God.
They are all gone aside, they are all together become
filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
All have turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.
I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.
I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back until they were consumed.
Therefore shalt thou make them turn their back, when thou shalt make ready thine arrows upon thy strings against the face of them.
For You will put them to flight when Your bow is trained upon them.
All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD. All the families of the nations will bow down before Him.
Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither
forsake me, O God of my salvation.
Hide not Your face from me, nor
turn away Your servant in anger. You have been my helper; do not leave me or
forsake me, O God of my salvation.
For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is
turned into the
drought of summer.
Selah.
For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was drained as in the summer heat.
Selah Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be
turned back and brought to confusion that
devise my
hurt.
May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plan to
harm me be driven back and confounded.
Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for
evermore.
Turn away from evil and do good, so that you will
abide forever.
O
spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.
Turn Your
gaze away from me, that I may again be
cheered before I depart and am no more.”
Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
Blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, who has not
turned to the proud, nor to those who
lapse into
falsehood.
Thou makest us to
turn back from the enemy: and they which
hate us
spoil for themselves.
Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;
Our hearts have not
turned back; our steps have not
strayed from Your path.
