Instead, we have
renounced secret and shameful
ways. We do not practice
deceit, nor do we
distort the word of God. On the contrary, by open
proclamation of the truth, we
commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh:
yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
So from now on we regard no one according to the flesh. Although we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.
Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not
blamed:
We put no
obstacle in
anyone’s
way, so that no one can discredit our ministry.
Now I
rejoice, not that ye were made
sorry, but that ye sorrowed to
repentance: for ye were made
sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
And now I
rejoice, not because you were made sorrowful, but because your sorrow led you to
repentance. For you felt the sorrow that God had intended, and so were not
harmed in any
way by us.
For behold this
selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you,
yea, what clearing of
yourselves,
yea, what
indignation,
yea, what fear,
yea, what
vehement desire,
yea, what zeal,
yea, what
revenge! In all things ye have approved
yourselves to be clear in this matter.
Consider what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear
yourselves, what
indignation, what
alarm, what longing, what zeal, what
vindication! In every
way you have proved
yourselves to be innocent in this matter.
Avoiding this, that no man should
blame us in this abundance which is administered by us:
We hope to avoid any criticism of the
way we
administer this generous gift.
And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have
oftentimes proved
diligent in many things, but now much more
diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you.
And we are sending along with them our brother whose earnestness has been
proven many times and in many
ways, and now even more so by his great confidence in you.
Therefore I thought it necessary to
exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up
beforehand your
bounty,
whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of
bounty, and not as of
covetousness.
So I thought it necessary to
urge the brothers to visit you
beforehand and make arrangements for the
bountiful gift you had promised. This
way, your gift will be prepared generously and not begrudgingly.
You will be enriched in every
way to be generous on every occasion, so that through us your giving will produce
thanksgiving to God.
For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
For if someone comes and proclaims a Jesus other than the One we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit than the One you received, or a different gospel than the one you accepted, you put up with it way too easily.
For I suppose I was not a
whit behind the very chiefest apostles.
I consider myself in no
way inferior to those “
super-apostles.”
But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly made manifest among you in all things.
Although I am not a polished speaker, I am certainly not lacking in knowledge. We have made this clear to you in every way possible.
And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from
Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being
burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself.
And when I was with you and in need, I was not a burden to
anyone; for the brothers who came from
Macedonia supplied my needs. I have
refrained from being a burden to you in any
way, and I will continue to do so.
I am become a
fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been
commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing.
I have become a
fool, but you drove me to it. In fact, you should have
commended me, since I am in no
way inferior to those “
super-apostles,” even though I am nothing.
For what is it wherein ye were inferior to other churches, except it be that I myself was not
burdensome to you?
forgive me this wrong.
In what
way were you inferior to the other churches, except that I was not a burden to you?
Forgive me this wrong!
I desired
Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did
Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps?
I urged
Titus to visit you, and I sent our brother with him. Did
Titus exploit you in any
way? Did we not walk in the same Spirit and follow in the same footsteps?
For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I
persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:
For you have heard of my former
way of life in
Judaism, how severely I
persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.
They
zealously affect you, but not well;
yea, they would
exclude you, that ye might affect them.
Those people are
zealous for you, but not in a good
way. Instead, they want to
isolate you from us, so that you may be
zealous for them.
Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Carry one another’s burdens, and in this
way you will
fulfill the law of Christ.
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
in which you used to walk when you
conformed to the
ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience.
For we are his
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
For we are God’s
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our
way of life.
But ye have not so learned Christ;
But this is not the way you came to know Christ.
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the
deceitful lusts;
to put off your former
way of life, your old self, which is being corrupted by its
deceitful desires;
So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and
confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
It is right for me to feel this
way about all of you, since I have you in my heart. For in my chains and in my
defense and
confirmation of the gospel, you are all partners in grace with me.
What then? notwithstanding, every
way, whether in
pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do
rejoice,
yea, and will
rejoice.
What then is the issue? Just this: that in every
way, whether by false motives or true, Christ is preached. And in this I
rejoice.
Yes, and I will continue to
rejoice,
According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be
ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be
magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no
way be
ashamed, but will have complete boldness so that now as always Christ will be
exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
without being
frightened in any
way by those who
oppose you. This is a clear sign of their destruction but of your salvation, and it is from God.
That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,
Blotting out the
handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the
way,
nailing it to his cross;
having
canceled the debt ascribed to us in the decrees that stood against us. He took it away,
nailing it to the cross!
In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
When you lived among them, you also used to walk in these ways.
Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.
Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you.
Furthermore then we
beseech you, brethren, and
exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
Finally, brothers, we ask and
encourage you in the Lord Jesus to live in a
way that is pleasing to God, just as you have received from us. This is how you already live, so you should do so all the more.
Let no man
deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of
perdition;
Let no one
deceive you in any
way, for it will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of
lawlessness—the son of destruction—is revealed.
For the
mystery of iniquity
doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the
way.
For the
mystery of
lawlessness is already at work, but the one who now restrains it will continue until he is taken out of the
way.
Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.
Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
The
salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the
token in every epistle: so I write.
This
greeting is in my own hand—Paul. This is my mark in every letter; it is the
way I write.
Some have
strayed from these
ways and turned aside to empty talk.
Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers,
sober, faithful in all things.
In the same
way, the women must be
dignified, not slanderers, but temperate and faithful in all things.
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but
godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
For physical exercise is of limited value, but
godliness is valuable in every
way, holding promise for the present life and for the one to come.
Likewise also the good works of some are manifest
beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be
hid.
In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even the ones that are inconspicuous cannot remain hidden.
But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
And now He has revealed this grace through the appearing of our
Savior, Christ Jesus, who has abolished death and
illuminated the
way to life and immortality through the gospel,
That they may teach the young women to be
sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
In this way they can train the young women to love their husbands and children,
If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;
But if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge it to my account.
God, who at
sundry times and in
divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets.
Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a
merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make
reconciliation for the sins of the people.
For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every
way, so that He might become a
merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, in order to make
atonement for the sins of the people.
Wherefore I was
grieved with that generation, and said, They do
alway err in their heart; and they have not known my
ways.
Therefore I was
angry with that generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts are always going
astray, and they have not known My
ways.’
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our
infirmities; but was in all points
tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to
sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was
tempted in every
way that we are, yet was without sin.
Who can have
compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the
way; for that he himself also is compassed with
infirmity.
He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and misguided, since he himself is
beset by weakness.
Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle,
accomplishing the service of God.
When everything had been prepared in this way, the priests entered regularly into the first room to perform their sacred duties.
The Holy Ghost this
signifying, that the
way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
By this arrangement the Holy Spirit was showing that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still standing.
Moreover he
sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
In the same
way, he
sprinkled with blood the tabernacle and all the vessels used in worship.
By a new and living
way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the
veil, that is to say, his flesh;
by the new and living
way opened for us through the
curtain of His body,
And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is
lame be turned out of the
way; but let it rather be
healed.
Make straight paths for your feet, so that the
lame may not be disabled, but rather
healed.
Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.
Remember your leaders who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their
way of life and
imitate their faith.
Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live
honestly.
Pray for us; we are
convinced that we have a clear conscience and desire to live
honorably in every
way.
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man
fade away in his
ways.
For the sun rises with
scorching heat and
withers the plant; its flower falls and its beauty is lost. So too, the rich man will
fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his
way, and
straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
Likewise also was not
Rahab the
harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another
way?
For in many things we
offend all. If any man
offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to
bridle the whole body.
We all
stumble in many
ways. If
anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to control his whole body.
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
In the same
way, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it boasts of great things. Consider how small a
spark sets a great forest
ablaze.
Let him know, that he which converteth the
sinner from the error of his
way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
consider this:
Whoever turns a
sinner from the error of his
way will save his soul from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited from your forefathers,
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
Wives, in the same
way, submit
yourselves to your husbands, so that even if they refuse to believe the word, they will be won over without words by the
behavior of their wives
Even as
Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any
amazement.
just as
Sarah obeyed Abraham and called him lord. And you are her children if you do what is right and refuse to give
way to fear.
Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
Husbands, in the same
way, treat your wives with consideration as a delicate vessel, and with honor as fellow heirs of the
gracious gift of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
Likewise, ye younger, submit
yourselves unto the elder.
Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with
humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
Young men, in the same
way, submit
yourselves to your elders. And all of you,
clothe yourselves with
humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
And many shall follow their
pernicious ways; by reason of whom the
way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
Many will follow in their
depravity, and because of them the
way of truth will be
defamed.
Which have
forsaken the right
way, and are gone
astray, following the
way of
Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
They have left the straight
way and
wandered off to follow the
way of
Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness.
For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than to have known it and then to turn away from the holy commandment passed on to them.
This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I
stir up your pure minds by
way of
remembrance:
Beloved, this is now my second letter to you. Both of them are reminders to
stir you to
wholesome thinking
Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and
godliness,
Since everything will be destroyed in this
way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to conduct
yourselves in
holiness and
godliness As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable
wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
He writes this
way in all his letters, speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his letters are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people
distort, as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
In this way, love has been perfected among us, so that we may have confidence on the day of judgment; for in this world we are just like Him.
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest
prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
Beloved, I pray that in every
way you may
prosper and enjoy good health, as your soul also prospers.
Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
They have
testified to the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their
way in a manner worthy of God.
Yet in the same
way these dreamers
defile their bodies,
reject authority, and
slander glorious beings.
So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I
hate.
In the same
way, some of you also hold to the teaching of the
Nicolaitans.
And if any man will
hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will
hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
If
anyone wants to
harm them, fire proceeds from their mouths and devours their enemies. In this
way,
anyone who wants to
harm them must be killed.
And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God
Almighty; just and true are thy
ways, thou King of saints.
and they
sang the song of God’s servant Moses and of the Lamb: “Great and wonderful are Your works, O Lord God
Almighty! Just and true are Your
ways, O King of the nations!
And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go, pour out on the earth the seven
bowls of God’s wrath.”
And the sixth angel poured out his
vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the
way of the kings of the east might be prepared.
And the sixth angel poured out his
bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the
way for the kings of the East.
Yea, a man taketh his sword, and goeth his
way to
rob and to
steal, to sail upon the sea and upon rivers;
Then
Darius the king stood up, and
kissed him, and wrote letters for him unto all the treasurers and lieutenants and captains and governors, that they should safely convey on their
way both him, and all those that go up with him to build Jerusalem.
For we had said unto the king, that the power of the Lord our God should be with them that seek him, to support them in all ways.
Then went they their
way, every one to eat and drink, and make
merry, and to give part to them that had nothing, and to make great
cheer;
Go thy
way, and
shew my people their sinful deeds, and their children their wickedness which they have done against me; that they may tell their children’s children:
The mother that bare them saith unto them, Go your
way, ye children; for I am a widow and
forsaken.
But what shall I now do unto you? I am a widow and
forsaken: go your
way, O my children, and ask mercy of the Lord.
Then the angel said unto me, Go thy way, and tell my people what manner of things, and how great wonders of the Lord thy God, thou hast seen.
And unto him thou gavest commandment to love thy
way: which he
transgressed, and immediately thou appointedst death in him and in his generations, of whom came nations, tribes, people, and kindreds, out of number.
I do not remember how this
way may be left: Are they then of Babylon better than they of
Sion?
And said, Thy heart hath gone to far in this world, and thinkest thou to
comprehend the
way of the most High?
Then said I,
Yea, my lord. And he answered me, and said, I am sent to
shew thee three
ways, and to set forth three similitudes before thee:
Whereof if thou canst declare me one, I will
shew thee also the
way that thou desirest to see, and I shall
shew thee from whence the wicked heart cometh.
