fetch a
morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.

bowshot away, for she said, “I cannot bear to watch the boy die!” And as she sat nearby, she lifted up her voice and
wept.

And it came to pass, when
Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto
Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.

Laban, “Send me on my
way so I can return to my homeland.
Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee.

Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the
way which I went.
Then let us arise and go to
Bethel. I will build an altar there to God, who answered me in my day of distress. He has been with me wherever I have gone.”

And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from
Gilead with their camels bearing
spicery and
balm and
myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

caravan of
Ishmaelites coming from
Gilead. Their camels were carrying spices,
balm, and
myrrh on their
way down to Egypt.
And she put her widow’s garments off from her, and covered her with a
vail, and
wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the
way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.
she removed her widow’s garments, covered her face with a
veil to
disguise herself, and sat at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the
way to Timnah. For she saw that although Shelah had grown up, she had not been given to him as a wife.
And he turned unto her by the
way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What
wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?
Not
realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her and said, “Come now, let me sleep with you.” “What will you give me for sleeping with you?” she inquired.

sack, and to give them provisions for their journey. This order was carried out,
And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if mischief
befall him by the
way in the which ye go, then shall ye bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.
But Jacob replied, “My son will not go down there with you, for his brother is dead, and he alone is left. If any
harm comes to him on your journey, you will bring my gray hair down to
Sheol in sorrow.”
As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their
asses.

donkeys loaded with grain and bread and provisions for his father’s journey.

And as for me, when I came from Padan,
Rachel died by me in the land of
Canaan in the
way, when yet there was but a little
way to come unto
Ephrath: and I buried her there in the
way of
Ephrath; the same is
Bethlehem.
Now as for me, when I was returning from Paddan, to my sorrow
Rachel died along the
way in the land of
Canaan, some distance from
Ephrath. So I buried her there beside the road to
Ephrath” (that is,
Bethlehem).
Dan shall be a serpent by the
way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.

snake by the road, a
viper in the path that bites the horse’s heels so that its rider tumbles backward.
And he looked this
way and that
way, and when he saw that there was no man, he

And the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the
Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he
seeth thee, he will be
glad in his heart.
Then the anger of the LORD burned against Moses, and He said, “Is not Aaron the
Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well, and he is now on his
way to meet you. When he sees you, he will be
glad in his heart.
And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.

And I will
sever in that day the land of
Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of
flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth.
But on that day I will give special treatment to the land of
Goshen, where My people live; no swarms of
flies will be found there. In this
way you will know that I, the LORD, am in the land.
And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they
spoiled the Egyptians.
And the LORD gave the people such favor in the sight of the Egyptians that they granted their request. In this
way they
plundered the Egyptians.
And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the
way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest
peradventure the people
repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them along the road through the land of the Philistines, though it was shorter. For God said, “If the people face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”
But God led the people about, through the
way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up
harnessed out of the land of Egypt.
So God led the people around by the
way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the Israelites left the land of Egypt
arrayed for battle.
And the LORD went before them by day in a
pillar of a cloud, to lead them the
way; and by night in a
pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:
And the LORD went before them in a
pillar of cloud to guide their
way by day, and in a
pillar of fire to give them light by night, so that they could travel by day or night.
Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test whether or not they will follow My instructions.
And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, and all the
travail that had come upon them by the
way, and how the LORD delivered them.
Then Moses recounted to his father-in-law all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardships they had
encountered along the
way, and how the LORD had delivered them.
And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt
shew them the
way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
Teach them the statutes and laws, and show them the way to live and the work they must do.
And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.
Then Moses sent his father-in-law on his way, and Jethro returned to his own land.
Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.
Behold, I am sending an angel before you to protect you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.
And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the
Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee.
Two tenons shall there be in one board, set in order one against another: thus shalt thou make for all the boards of the tabernacle.
Two tenons must be connected to each other for each frame. Make all the frames of the tabernacle in this way.
With the work of an
engraver in stone, like the engravings of a
signet, shalt thou
engrave the two stones with the names of the children of Israel: thou shalt make them to be set in ouches of gold.
Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the
way a
gem cutter engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in gold
filigree settings.
And beneath upon the
hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, round about the
hem thereof; and bells of gold between them round about:
Make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn all the
way around the lower
hem, with gold bells between them,
And thou shalt
gird them with girdles, Aaron and his sons, and put the bonnets on them: and the priest’s office shall be theirs for a perpetual statute: and thou shalt
consecrate Aaron and his sons.
Wrap the sashes around Aaron and his sons and
tie headbands on them. The priesthood shall be theirs by a permanent statute. In this
way you are to
ordain Aaron and his sons.
They have turned aside quickly out of the
way which I commanded them: they have made them a
molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed
thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
How quickly they have turned aside from the
way that I commanded them! They have made for themselves a
molten calf and have bowed down to it. They have sacrificed to it and said, ‘These, O Israel, are your gods, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’”
Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I
consume thee in the
way.
Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people; otherwise, I might destroy you on the way.”
Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight,
shew me now thy
way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.
Now if indeed I have found favor in Your sight, please let me know Your ways, that I may know You and find favor in Your sight. Remember that this nation is Your people.”
One board had two tenons, equally distant one from another: thus did he make for all the boards of the tabernacle.
Two tenons were connected to each other for each frame. He made all the frames of the tabernacle in this way.
And they were coupled beneath, and coupled together at the head thereof, to one ring: thus he did to both of them in both the corners.
coupled together from bottom to top and fitted into a single ring. He made both corners in this way.
And thou shalt bring the meat offering that is made of these things unto the LORD: and when it is presented unto the priest, he shall bring it unto the altar.
When you bring to the LORD the grain offering made in any of these ways, it is to be presented to the priest, and he shall take it to the altar.
And he shall do with the
bullock as he did with the
bullock for a sin offering, so shall he do with this: and the priest shall make an
atonement for them, and it shall be
forgiven them.
He shall offer this bull just as he did the bull for the sin offering; in this
way the priest will make
atonement on their behalf, and they will be
forgiven.
And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the fat is taken away from off the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall burn it upon the altar for a sweet savour unto the LORD; and the priest shall make an
atonement for him, and it shall be
forgiven him.
Then he is to remove all the fat, just as it is removed from the peace offering, and the priest is to burn it on the altar as a pleasing
aroma to the LORD. In this
way the priest will make
atonement for him, and he will be
forgiven.
And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the fat of the lamb is taken away from the sacrifice of the peace offerings; and the priest shall burn them upon the altar, according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD: and the priest shall make an
atonement for his sin that he hath committed, and it shall be
forgiven him.
And he shall remove all the fat, just as the fat of the lamb is removed from the peace offerings, and he shall burn it on the altar along with the offerings made by fire to the LORD. In this
way the priest will make
atonement for him for the sin he has committed, and he will be
forgiven.
And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall
confess that he hath
sinned in that thing:
If someone incurs guilt in one of these
ways, he must
confess the sin he has committed,
And he shall offer the second for a burnt offering, according to the manner: and the priest shall make an
atonement for him for his sin which he hath
sinned, and it shall be
forgiven him.
And the priest must prepare the second bird as a burnt offering according to the
ordinance. In this
way the priest will make
atonement for him for the sin he has committed, and he will be
forgiven.
And the priest shall make an
atonement for him as touching his sin that he hath
sinned in one of these, and it shall be
forgiven him: and the
remnant shall be the priest’s, as a meat offering.
In this
way the priest will make
atonement for him for any of these sins he has committed, and he will be
forgiven. The remainder will belong to the priest, like the grain offering.”
And the priest shall make an
atonement for him before the LORD: and it shall be
forgiven him for any thing of all that he hath done in
trespassing therein.
In this
way the priest will make
atonement for him before the LORD, and he will be
forgiven for anything he may have done to
incur guilt.”
Even such as he is able to get, the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, with the meat offering: and the priest shall make an
atonement for him that is to be
cleansed before the LORD.
one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, together with the grain offering. In this
way the priest will make
atonement before the LORD for the one to be
cleansed.
But he shall let go the living bird out of the city into the open fields, and make an
atonement for the house: and it shall be clean.
Finally, he is to release the live bird into the open fields outside the city. In this
way he will make
atonement for the house, and it will be clean.
And the priest shall offer them, the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make an
atonement for him before the LORD for his issue.
The priest is to sacrifice them, one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. In this
way the priest will make
atonement for the man before the LORD because of his discharge.
And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make an
atonement for her before the LORD for the issue of her uncleanness.
The priest is to sacrifice one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. In this
way the priest will make
atonement for her before the LORD for her unclean discharge.
And if the people of the land do any
ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto
Molech, and kill him not:
And if the people of the land ever hide their eyes and fail to put to death the man who gives one of his children to
Molech,
And when ye
reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean
riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any
gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the LORD your God.
When you
reap the harvest of your land, do not
reap all the
way to the edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the foreign resident. I am the LORD your God.’”
And if he be not redeemed in these years, then he shall go out in the year of jubile, both he, and his children with him.
Even if he is not redeemed in any of these
ways, he and his children shall be released in the Year of
Jubilee.
I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall
rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high
ways shall be
desolate.
I will send wild animals against you to
rob you of your children, destroy your
livestock, and reduce your numbers, until your roads lie
desolate.
And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses: so they pitched by their standards, and so they set forward, every one after their families, according to the house of their fathers.
So the Israelites did everything the LORD commanded Moses; they camped under their standards in this way and set out in the same way, each man with his clan and his family.
Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be mine.
In this way you shall separate the Levites from the rest of the Israelites, and the Levites will belong to Me.
So it was
alway: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night.
It remained that way continually; the cloud would cover the tabernacle by day, and at night it would appear like fire.
And Moses sent them to
spy out the land of
Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this
way southward, and go up into the mountain:
When Moses sent them to
spy out the land of
Canaan, he told them, “Go up through the Negev and into the hill country.
(Now the
Amalekites and the
Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To
morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the
way of the Red sea.
Now since the
Amalekites and
Canaanites are living in the valleys, turn back
tomorrow and head for the wilderness along the route to the Red Sea.”
Then the
Amalekites and
Canaanites who lived in that part of the hill country came down, attacked them, and routed them all the
way to Hormah.
All that are born of the country shall do these things after this manner, in offering an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
Everyone who is native-born shall prepare these things in this
way when he presents an offering made by fire as a pleasing
aroma to the LORD.
Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king’s high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.
Please let us pass through your land. We will not cut through any field or
vineyard, or drink water from any well. We will stay on the King’s
Highway; we will not turn to the right or to the left until we have passed through your territory.”
And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing any thing else, go through on my feet.
“We will stay on the main road,” the Israelites replied, “and if we or our herds drink your water, we will pay for it. There will be no problem; only let us pass through on foot.”
And when king
Arad the
Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the
way of the
spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.
When the
Canaanite king of
Arad, who lived in the Negev, heard that Israel was coming along the road to Atharim, he attacked Israel and captured some prisoners.
