Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
And
Abram had become extremely
wealthy in
livestock and silver and gold.
And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:
and he became richer and richer, until he was exceedingly wealthy.
For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?
Indeed, you had very little before my arrival, but now your wealth has increased many times over. The LORD has blessed you wherever I set foot. But now, when may I also provide for my own household?”
And he heard the words of
Laban’s sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our father’s; and of that which was our father’s hath he
gotten all this glory.
Now Jacob heard that
Laban’s sons were saying, “Jacob has taken away all that belonged to our father and built all this
wealth at our father’s expense.”
For all the riches which God hath taken from our father, that is ours, and our children’s: now then,
whatsoever God hath said unto thee, do.
Surely all the wealth that God has taken away from our father belongs to us and to our children. So do whatever God has told you.”
And all their
wealth, and all their little ones, and their wives took they
captive, and
spoiled even all that was in the house.
They carried off all their possessions and women and children, and they
plundered everything in their houses.
And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath
gotten me this
wealth.
You might say in your heart, “The power and strength of my hands have made this wealth for me.”
But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get
wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he
sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
But remember that it is the LORD your God who gives you the power to gain
wealth, in order to
confirm His covenant that He
swore to your fathers even to this day.
And he spake unto them, saying, Return with much riches unto your tents, and with very much cattle, with silver, and with gold, and with brass, and with iron, and with very much
raiment: divide the
spoil of your enemies with your brethren.
saying, “Return to your homes with your great
wealth, with immense herds of
livestock, with silver, gold, bronze, iron, and very many clothes. Divide with your brothers the
spoil of your enemies.”
And
Naomi had a
kinsman of her husband’s, a mighty man of
wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
Now
Naomi had a relative on her husband’s side, a prominent man of noble character from the clan of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz.
The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.
The LORD sends poverty and wealth; He humbles and He exalts.
And thou shalt see an enemy in my
habitation, in all the
wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.
You will see distress in My dwelling place.
Despite all that is good in Israel, no one in your house will ever again reach old age.
And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in
Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in
Carmel.
Now there was a man in Maon whose business was in
Carmel. He was a very
wealthy man with a thousand goats and three thousand sheep, which he was shearing in
Carmel.
Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even
fourscore years old: and he had provided the king of
sustenance while he lay at
Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.
Barzillai was quite old, eighty years of age, and since he was a very
wealthy man, he had provided for the king while he stayed in
Mahanaim.
And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for
thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for
thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for
thyself understanding to
discern judgment;
So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this instead of requesting long life or
wealth for
yourself or death for your enemies—but you have asked for
discernment to
administer justice—
And Menahem exacted the money of Israel, even of all the mighty men of wealth, of each man fifty shekels of silver, to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria turned back, and stayed not there in the land.
Menahem exacted this money from each of the wealthy men of Israel—fifty shekels of silver from each man—to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria withdrew and did not remain in the land.
And
Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of every one according to his taxation, to give it unto Pharaoh-nechoh.
So
Jehoiakim paid the silver and gold to Pharaoh Neco, but to meet Pharaoh’s demand he taxed the land and exacted the silver and the gold from the people, each according to his
wealth.
And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches,
wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for
thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
God said to Solomon, “Since this was in your heart instead of requesting riches or
wealth or glory for
yourself or death for your enemies—and since you have not even requested long life but have asked for wisdom and knowledge to
govern My people over whom I have made you king—
Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
therefore wisdom and knowledge have been granted to you. And I will also give you riches and wealth and honor unlike anything given to the kings before you or after you.”
Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.
He made cities for himself, and he acquired herds of sheep and cattle in abundance, for God gave him very great wealth.
Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.
Now, therefore, do not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. Never seek their peace or prosperity, so that you may be strong and may eat the good things of the land, leaving it as an inheritance to your sons
forever.’
And
Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.
Haman recounted to them his glorious
wealth, his many sons, and all the ways the king had honored and promoted him over the other officials and servants.
For
Mordecai the
Jew was next unto king
Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the
wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed.
For
Mordecai the
Jew was second only to King
Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews and highly favored by his many
kinsmen, seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all his countrymen.
Whose harvest the
hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the
robber swalloweth up their substance.
Did I say, Bring unto me? or, Give a reward for me of your substance?
Have I ever said, ‘Give me something; offer me a
bribe from your
wealth;
He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he
prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.
He will no longer be rich; his
wealth will not
endure. His possessions will not overspread the land.
His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.
His sons will seek the favor of the poor, for his own hands must return his wealth.
He hath
swallowed down riches, and he shall
vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his
belly.
He
swallows wealth but vomits it out; God will force it from his stomach.
They
spend their days in
wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.
They
spend their days in prosperity and go down to
Sheol in peace.
The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not.
He lies down wealthy, but will do so no more; when he opens his eyes, all is gone.
If I
rejoiced because my
wealth was great, and because mine hand had
gotten much;
if I have
rejoiced in my great
wealth because my hand had gained so much,
Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.
Can your wealth or all your mighty effort keep you from distress?
Thou sellest thy people for
nought, and
dost not increase thy
wealth by their price.
You sell Your people for nothing; no profit do You gain from their sale.
And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.
The Daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; men of wealth will seek your favor.
They that trust in their
wealth, and
boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
They trust in their
wealth and
boast in their great riches.
For he
seeth that wise men die, likewise the
fool and the
brutish person perish, and leave their
wealth to others.
For it is clear that wise men die, and the
foolish and the senseless both perish and leave their
wealth to others.
Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
But a man,
despite his
wealth, cannot
endure; he is like the beasts that perish.
Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.
“Look at the man who did not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his wealth and strengthened himself by destruction.”
Thou hast caused men to
ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a
wealthy place.
You let men
ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but You brought us into abundance.
Behold, these are the ungodly, who
prosper in the world; they increase in riches.
Behold, these are the wicked— always carefree as they increase their wealth.
Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures
forever.
Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your harvest;
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
lest strangers feast on your
wealth, and your labors
enrich the house of a foreigner.
But if he be found, he shall restore
sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
Yet if caught, he must pay
sevenfold; he must give up all the
wealth of his house.
Riches and honour are with me;
yea,
durable riches and righteousness.
With me are riches and honor,
enduring wealth and righteousness.
That I may cause those that love me to
inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.
He becometh poor that dealeth with a
slack hand: but the hand of the
diligent maketh rich.
Idle hands make one poor, but
diligent hands bring
wealth.
The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
The wealth of the rich man is his fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor.
A
gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.
There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
One pretends to be rich, but has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the
wealth of the
sinner is laid up for the just.
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the
sinner’s
wealth is passed to the righteous.
The crown of the wise is their riches: but the
foolishness of fools is folly.
The crown of the wise is their wealth, but the effort of fools is folly.
The rich man’s
wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own
conceit.
A rich man’s wealth is his fortified city; it is like a high wall in his imagination.
Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
Wealth attracts many friends, but a poor man is deserted by his friend.
House and riches are the inheritance of fathers and a
prudent wife is from the LORD.
Houses and
wealth are inherited from fathers, but a
prudent wife is from the LORD.
By
humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.
The rewards of
humility and the fear of the LORD are
wealth and honor and life.
Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
When you
glance at
wealth, it disappears, for it makes wings for itself and
flies like an eagle to the sky.
He that by
usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will
pity the poor.
He who increases his
wealth by interest and
usury lays it up for one who is kind to the poor.
He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.
A
stingy man hastens after
wealth and does not know that poverty awaits him.
Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father, but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.
I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have
gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem:
yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
I said to myself, “Behold, I have grown and increased in wisdom beyond all those before me who were over Jerusalem, and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge.”
There is one alone, and there is not a second;
yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and
bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity,
yea, it is a
sore travail.
There is a man all alone, without even a son or brother. And though there is no end to his labor, his eyes are still not content with his
wealth: “For whom do I
toil and
bereave my soul of enjoyment?” This too is
futile—a
miserable task.
He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.
He who loves money is never satisfied by money, and he who loves
wealth is never satisfied by income. This too is
futile.
There is a
sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their
hurt.
But those riches perish by evil
travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand.
or
wealth lost in a failed
venture, so when that man has a son there is nothing to pass on.
Every man also to whom God hath given riches and
wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to
rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.
Furthermore, God has given riches and
wealth to every man, and He has enabled him to enjoy them, to accept his lot, and to
rejoice in his labor. This is a gift from God.
A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.
God gives a man riches,
wealth, and honor, so that he lacks nothing his heart desires; but God does not allow him to enjoy them. Instead, a stranger will enjoy them. This is
futile and a
grievous affliction.
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
I saw something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong; neither is the bread to the wise, nor the wealth to the intelligent, nor the favor to the skillful. For time and chance happen to all.
Many waters cannot
quench love, neither can the floods
drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be
contemned.
Mighty waters cannot
quench love; rivers cannot
sweep it away. If a man were to give all the
wealth of his house for love, his offer would be utterly
scorned.
Then shall the lambs feed after their manner, and the waste places of the fat ones shall strangers eat.
Lambs will
graze as in their own pastures, and strangers will feed in the ruins of the
wealthy.
For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the
spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.
For before the boy knows how to cry ‘Father’ or ‘Mother,’ the
wealth of Damascus and the
plunder of Samaria will be carried off by the king of Assyria.”
And what will ye do in the day of
visitation, and in the
desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye
flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?
What will you do on the day of
reckoning when
devastation comes from
afar? To whom will you
flee for help? Where will you leave your
wealth?
And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or
peeped.
My hand reached as into a nest to seize the
wealth of the nations. Like one gathering abandoned eggs, I gathered all the earth. No wing
fluttered, no
beak opened or
chirped.’”
Therefore the abundance they have
gotten, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away to the
brook of the willows.
So they carry their
wealth and belongings over the
Brook of the Willows.
The burden of the beasts of the south: into the land of trouble and
anguish, from whence come the young and old lion, the
viper and
fiery flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young
asses, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.
This is the burden against the beasts of the Negev: Through a land of
hardship and distress, of
lioness and lion, of
viper and flying serpent, they carry their
wealth on the backs of
donkeys and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people of no profit to them.
Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.
Then you will look and be
radiant, and your heart will
tremble and swell with joy, because the riches of the sea will be brought to you, and the
wealth of the nations will come to you.
Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.
Your gates will always stand open; they will never be shut, day or night, so that the
wealth of the nations may be brought into you, with their kings being led in
procession.
But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye
boast yourselves.
But you will be called the priests of the LORD; they will speak of you as ministers of our God; you will feed on the
wealth of nations, and you will
boast in their riches.
For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall ye
suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be
dandled upon her knees.
For this is what the LORD says: “I will extend peace to her like a river, and the
wealth of nations like a flowing stream; you will
nurse and be carried on her arm, and
bounced upon her knees.
Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise man
boast in his wisdom, nor the strong man in his strength, nor the
wealthy man in his riches.
Thy substance and thy treasures will I give to the
spoil without price, and that for all thy sins, even in all thy borders.
Your
wealth and your treasures I will give up as
plunder, without charge for all your sins within all your borders.
O my mountain in the field, I will give thy substance and all thy treasures to the
spoil, and thy high places for sin, throughout all thy borders.
O My mountain in the
countryside, I will give over your
wealth and all your treasures as
plunder, because of the sin of your high places, within all your borders.
Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall
spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.
I will give away all the
wealth of this city—all its products and valuables, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah—to their enemies. They will
plunder them, seize them, and carry them off to Babylon.
Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kir-heres: because the riches that he hath
gotten are perished.
Therefore My heart laments like a
flute for Moab; it laments like a
flute for the men of Kir-heres, because the
wealth they acquired has perished.
Arise, get you up unto the wealthy nation, that dwelleth without care, saith the LORD, which have neither gates nor bars, which dwell alone.
Rise up, advance against a nation at ease, one that dwells securely,” declares the LORD. “They have no gates or bars; they live alone.
Violence is risen up into a rod of wickedness: none of them shall remain, nor of their multitude, nor of any of theirs: neither shall there be
wailing for them.
Their violence has grown into a rod to
punish their wickedness. None of them will remain: none of their multitude, none of their
wealth, and nothing of value.
They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their
bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.
They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will seem unclean. Their silver and gold cannot save them in the day of the wrath of the LORD. They cannot satisfy their appetites or fill their stomachs with
wealth, for it became the
stumbling block that brought their iniquity.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy
filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness discovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou
didst give unto them;
This is what the Lord GOD says: Because you poured out your
wealth and exposed your nakedness in your
promiscuity with your lovers and with all your
detestable idols, and because of the blood of your children which you gave to them,
And they shall make a
spoil of thy riches, and make a prey of thy
merchandise: and they shall break down thy walls, and destroy thy pleasant houses: and they shall lay thy stones and thy timber and thy dust in the midst of the water.
Tarshish was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all kind of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded in thy fairs.
Tarshish was your merchant because of your great
wealth of goods; they exchanged silver, iron, tin, and lead for your wares.
Damascus was thy merchant in the multitude of the wares of thy making, for the multitude of all riches; in the wine of Helbon, and white wool.
Because of your many products and your great wealth of goods, Damascus traded with you wine from Helbon, wool from Zahar,
Thy riches, and thy fairs, thy
merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the occupiers of thy
merchandise, and all thy men of war, that are in thee, and in all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of thy ruin.
Your
wealth, wares, and
merchandise, your sailors, captains, and shipwrights, your merchants and all the warriors within you, with all the other people on board, will sink into the heart of the sea on the day of your
downfall.
When thy wares went forth out of the seas, thou filledst many people; thou
didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy
merchandise.
When your wares went out to sea, you satisfied many nations. You enriched the kings of the earth with your abundant
wealth and
merchandise.
With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast
gotten thee riches, and hast
gotten gold and silver into thy treasures:
By your wisdom and understanding you have gained your
wealth and
amassed gold and silver for your
treasuries.
By thy great wisdom and by thy
traffick hast thou increased thy riches, and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches:
By your great skill in trading you have increased your wealth, but your heart has grown proud because of it.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her
spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army.
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I will give the land of Egypt to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who will carry off its
wealth, seize its
spoil, and remove its
plunder. This will be the wages for his army.
And the sword shall come upon Egypt, and great pain shall be in
Ethiopia, when the slain shall fall in Egypt, and they shall take away her multitude, and her foundations shall be broken down.
A sword will come against Egypt, and there will be
anguish in
Cush when the slain fall in Egypt, its
wealth is taken away, and its foundations are
torn down.
And now will I
shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall
stir up all against the realm of
Grecia.
Now then, I will tell you the truth: Three more kings will arise in Persia, and then a fourth, who will be far richer than all the others. By the power of his
wealth, he will
stir up
everyone against the kingdom of Greece.
He shall enter
peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers’ fathers; he shall
scatter among them the prey, and
spoil, and riches:
yea, and he shall
forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.
In a time of peace, he will
invade the richest provinces and do what his fathers and forefathers never did. He will
lavish plunder,
loot, and
wealth on his followers, and he will plot against the strongholds—but only for a time.
