wife to have sexual relations with her; she is your
aunt.

vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.

adultery with another man’s
wife, even he that committeth
adultery with his neighbour’s
wife, the
adulterer and the
adulteress shall surely be put to death.
And the man that lieth with his father’s wife hath uncovered his father’s nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you.

divorced woman, or
profane, or an
harlot, these shall he not take: but he shall take a virgin of his own people to
wife.
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man’s
wife go aside, and commit a
trespass against him,
“Speak to the Israelites and tell them that if any man’s
wife goes
astray and is unfaithful to him
And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be
jealous of his
wife, and she be
defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be
jealous of his
wife, and she be not
defiled:
and if a feeling of jealousy comes over her husband and he suspects his
wife who has
defiled herself—or if a feeling of jealousy comes over him and he suspects her even though she has not
defiled herself—
Then shall the man bring his
wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an
ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put
frankincense thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of
memorial, bringing iniquity to
remembrance.
then he is to bring his
wife to the priest. He must also bring for her an offering of a tenth of an
ephah of barley flour. He is not to pour oil over it or put
frankincense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, an offering of
memorial as a reminder of iniquity.
And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD:
The priest is to bring the wife forward and have her stand before the LORD.
This is the law of
jealousies, when a
wife goeth aside to another instead of her husband, and is
defiled;
This is the law of jealousy when a
wife goes
astray and defiles herself while under her husband’s authority,
Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be
jealous over his
wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall
execute upon her all this law.
or when a feeling of jealousy comes over a husband and he suspects his wife. He is to have the woman stand before the LORD, and the priest is to apply to her this entire law.

wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom her mother bare to Levi in Egypt: and she bare unto Amram Aaron and Moses, and
Miriam their sister.

Miriam.
These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father’s house.
These are the statutes that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the relationship between a man and his wife, and between a father and a young daughter still in his home.
And every daughter, that possesseth an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel, shall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may enjoy every man the inheritance of his fathers.
Every daughter who possesses an inheritance from any
Israelite tribe must marry within a clan of the tribe of her father, so that every
Israelite will possess the inheritance of his fathers.
Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s
wife, neither shalt thou
covet thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his
manservant, or his
maidservant, his ox, or his
ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the
wife of thy
bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul,
entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;
If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (which neither you nor your fathers have known,
And what man is there that hath
betrothed a
wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.
Has any man become
pledged to a woman and not married her? Let him return home, or he may die in battle and another man marry her.”
And seest among the
captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy
wife;
if you see a beautiful woman among them, and you desire her and want to take her as your wife,
And she shall put the
raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and
bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy
wife.
and put aside the clothing of her captivity. After she has lived in your house a full month and
mourned her father and mother, you may have relations with her and be her husband, and she shall be your
wife.
If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another
hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the
hated; and if the
firstborn son be hers that was
hated:
If a man has two wives, one beloved and the other unloved, and both bear him sons, but the unloved
wife has the
firstborn son,
Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to
inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved
firstborn before the son of the
hated, which is indeed the
firstborn:
when that man assigns his inheritance to his sons he must not
appoint the son of the beloved
wife as the
firstborn over the son of the unloved
wife.
But he shall acknowledge the son of the
hated for the
firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the
firstborn is his.
Instead, he must acknowledge the
firstborn, the son of his unloved
wife, by giving him a double portion of all that he has. For that son is the firstfruits of his father’s strength; the right of the
firstborn belongs to him.
If any man take a
wife, and go in unto her, and
hate her,
Suppose a man marries a woman, has relations with her, and comes to
hate her,
And the
damsel’s father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to
wife, and he hateth her;
and say to the elders, “I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he has come to
hate her.
And they shall
amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the
damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his
wife; he may not put her away all his days.
They are also to fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the young woman’s father, because this man has given a virgin of Israel a bad name. And she shall remain his
wife; he must not
divorce her as long as he lives.
If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.
If a man is found lying with another man’s
wife, both the man who
slept with her and the woman must die. You must
purge the evil from Israel.
Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the
damsel, because she
cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour’s
wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.
you must take both of them out to the gate of that city and stone them to death—the young woman because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he has
violated his
neighbor’s
wife. So you must
purge the evil from among you.
Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the
damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his
wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
then the man who lay with her must pay the young woman’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she must become his
wife because he has
violated her. He must not
divorce her as long as he lives.
A man shall not take his father’s
wife, nor discover his father’s
skirt.
A man is not to marry his father’s wife, so that he will not dishonor his father’s marriage bed.
When a man hath taken a
wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of
divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
If a man marries a woman, but she becomes displeasing to him because he finds some
indecency in her, he may write her a
certificate of
divorce, hand it to her, and send her away from his house.
And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man’s wife.
If, after leaving his house, she goes and becomes another man’s wife,
And if the latter husband
hate her, and write her a bill of
divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his
wife;
and the second man hates her, writes her a
certificate of
divorce, hands it to her, and sends her away from his house, or if he dies,
Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his
wife, after that she is
defiled; for that is
abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
then the husband who
divorced her first may not remarry her after she has been
defiled, for that is an
abomination to the LORD. You must not bring sin upon the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.
When a man hath taken a new
wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall
cheer up his
wife which he hath taken.
If a man is newly married, he must not be sent to war or be pressed into any duty. For one year he is free to stay at home and bring joy to the wife he has married.
If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her.
When brothers dwell together and one of them dies without a son, the widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother is to take her as his
wife and
fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law for her.
And if the man like not to take his brother’s wife, then let his brother’s wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband’s brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband’s brother.
But if the man does not want to marry his brother’s widow, she is to go to the elders at the city gate and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to preserve his brother’s name in Israel. He is not willing to perform the duty of a brother-in-law for me.”
Then shall his brother’s
wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his
shoe from off his foot, and
spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto that man that will not build up his brother’s house.
his brother’s widow shall go up to him in the presence of the elders, remove his
sandal,
spit in his face, and declare, “This is what is done to the man who will not maintain his brother’s line.”
When men
strive together one with another, and the
wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
If two men are fighting, and the
wife of one steps in to
rescue her husband from the one striking him, and she reaches out her hand and grabs his
genitals,
Cursed be he that lieth with his father’s
wife; because he uncovereth his father’s
skirt. And all the people shall say,
Amen.
‘
Cursed is he who sleeps with his father’s
wife, for he has
violated his father’s marriage bed.’ And let all the people say, ‘
Amen!’
Thou shalt
betroth a
wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt build an house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a
vineyard, and shalt not gather the grapes thereof.
You will be
pledged in marriage to a woman, but another man will
violate her. You will build a house but will not live in it. You will plant a
vineyard but will not enjoy its fruit.
So that the man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the
wife of his
bosom, and toward the
remnant of his children which he shall leave:
The most gentle and refined man among you will
begrudge his brother, the
wife he embraces, and the rest of his children who have survived,
And
Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to
wife.
And
Caleb said, “To the man who strikes down Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage.”
And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of
Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to
wife.
So Othniel son of
Caleb’s brother Kenaz captured the city, and
Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage.
And
Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to
wife.
And
Caleb said, “To the man who strikes down Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage.”
And Othniel the son of Kenaz,
Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to
wife.
So Othniel son of
Caleb’s younger brother Kenaz captured the city, and
Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage.
Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the
wife of
Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of
Heber the Kenite.
Meanwhile, Sisera had fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the
wife of
Heber the Kenite, because there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of
Heber the Kenite.
Then Jael
Heber’s
wife took a
nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and
smote the
nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast
asleep and
weary. So he died.
But as he lay sleeping from
exhaustion,
Heber’s
wife Jael took a tent
peg,
grabbed a hammer, and went silently to Sisera. She drove the
peg through his temple and into the ground, and he died.
Blessed above women shall Jael the
wife of
Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent.
Most blessed among women is Jael, the
wife of
Heber the Kenite, most blessed of tent-dwelling women.
And
Gilead’s
wife bare him sons; and his
wife’s sons grew up, and they thrust out
Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou shalt not
inherit in our father’s house; for thou art the son of a strange woman.
And
Gilead’s
wife bore him sons who grew up, drove
Jephthah out, and said to him, “You shall have no inheritance in our father’s house, because you are the son of another woman.”
And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was
Manoah; and his
wife was barren, and bare not.
Now there was a man from Zorah named
Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, whose
wife was barren and had no children.
And
Manoah arose, and went after his
wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.
So
Manoah got up and followed his
wife. When he came to the man, he asked, “Are you the man who spoke to my
wife?” “I am,” he said.
And the angel of the LORD said unto
Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her
beware.
So the angel of the LORD answered
Manoah, “Your
wife is to do everything I told her.
So
Manoah took a
kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wonderously; and
Manoah and his
wife looked on.
Then
Manoah took a young goat and a grain offering and offered them on a rock to the LORD. And as
Manoah and his
wife looked on, the LORD did a
marvelous thing.
For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And
Manoah and his
wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.
When the flame went up from the altar to the sky, the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame. When
Manoah and his
wife saw this, they fell facedown to the ground.
But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to
Manoah and to his
wife. Then
Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD.
And when the angel of the LORD did not appear again to
Manoah and his
wife,
Manoah realized that it had been the angel of the LORD.
And
Manoah said unto his
wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.
“We are going to die,” he said to his wife, “for we have seen God!”
But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.
But his wife replied, “If the LORD had intended to kill us, He would not have accepted the burnt offering and the grain offering from our hands, nor would He have shown us all these things or spoken to us this way.”
And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.
So he returned and told his father and mother, “I have seen a daughter of the Philistines in Timnah. Now get her for me as a wife.”
Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a
wife of the
uncircumcised Philistines? And
Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
But his father and mother replied, “Can’t you find a young woman among your relatives or among any of our people? Must you go to the
uncircumcised Philistines to get a
wife?” But
Samson told his father, “Get her for me, for she is pleasing to my eyes.”
And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto
Samson’s
wife,
Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the
riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so?
So on the fourth day they said to
Samson’s
wife, “
Entice your husband to explain the
riddle to us, or we will burn you and your father’s household to death. Did you
invite us here to
rob us?”
And
Samson’s
wife wept before him, and said, Thou
dost but
hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a
riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?
Then
Samson’s
wife came to him,
weeping, and said, “You
hate me! You do not really love me! You have
posed to my people a
riddle, but have not explained it to me.” “Look,” he said, “I have not even explained it to my father or mother, so why should I explain it to you?”
But
Samson’s
wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.
and his wife was given to one of the men who had accompanied him.
But it came to pass within a while after, in the time of wheat harvest, that
Samson visited his
wife with a
kid; and he said, I will go in to my
wife into the chamber. But her father would not suffer him to go in.
Later on, at the time of the wheat harvest,
Samson took a young goat and went to visit his
wife. “I want to go to my
wife in her room,” he said. But her father would not let him enter.
Then the Philistines said, Who hath done this? And they answered,
Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he had taken his
wife, and given her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.
“Who did this?” the Philistines demanded. “It was
Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite,” they were told. “For his
wife was given to his companion.” So the Philistines went up and burned her and her father to death.
Now the men of Israel had
sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to
wife.
Now the men of Israel had
sworn an oath at
Mizpah, saying, “Not one of us will give his daughter in marriage to a
Benjamite.”
Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have
sworn, saying,
Cursed be he that giveth a
wife to Benjamin.
But we cannot give them our daughters as wives.” For the Israelites had
sworn, “
Cursed is he who gives a
wife to a
Benjamite.”
And see, and, behold, if the daughters of
Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his
wife of the daughters of
Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.
and watch. When you see the daughters of
Shiloh come out to perform their dances, each of you is to come out of the vineyards, catch for himself a
wife from the daughters of
Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.
And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to
complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his
wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.
When their fathers or brothers come to us to
complain, we will tell them, ‘Do us a favor by helping them, since we did not get wives for each of them in the war. Since you did not actually give them your daughters, you have no guilt.’”
Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to
sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his
wife, and his two sons.
In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. And a certain man from
Bethlehem in Judah, with his
wife and two sons, went to reside in the land of Moab.
And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his
wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.
The man’s name was Elimelech, his
wife’s name was
Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from
Bethlehem in Judah, and they entered the land of Moab and settled there.
Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of
Naomi, thou must
buy it also of
Ruth the
Moabitess, the
wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
Then Boaz said, “On the day you
buy the land from
Naomi and also from
Ruth the
Moabitess, you must also acquire the widow of the deceased in order to raise up the name of the deceased on his inheritance.”
Moreover
Ruth the
Moabitess, the
wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my
wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
Moreover, I have acquired
Ruth the
Moabitess, Mahlon’s widow, as my
wife, to raise up the name of the deceased through his inheritance, so that his name will not disappear from among his brothers or from the gate of his home. You are witnesses
today.”
So Boaz took
Ruth, and she was his
wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.
So Boaz took
