Havilah, where there is gold;

winds through the whole land of
Havilah, where there is gold.
And the name of the second river is
Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of
Ethiopia.
The name of the second river is
Gihon; it
winds through the whole land of
Cush.
A
window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a
cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
You are to make a roof for the ark, finish its walls a
cubit from the top, place a door in the side of the ark, and build lower, middle, and upper decks.
In the six
hundredth year of
Noah’s life, in the second month, the
seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the
windows of heaven were opened.
In the six
hundredth year of
Noah’s life, on the
seventeenth day of the second month, all the fountains of the great deep
burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.
And God remembered
Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a
wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;
But God remembered
Noah and all the animals and
livestock that were with him in the ark. And God sent a
wind over the earth, and the waters began to
subside.
The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;
The springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens were closed, and the rain from the sky was restrained.
And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that
Noah opened the
window of the ark which he had made:
After forty days
Noah opened the
window he had made in the ark
And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that
Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a
window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was
sporting with
Rebekah his wife.
When Isaac had been there a long time,
Abimelech king of the Philistines looked down from the
window and was surprised to see Isaac
caressing his wife
Rebekah.
And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.
After them, seven other heads of grain
sprouted, thin and
scorched by the east
wind.
And, behold, seven ears,
withered, thin, and blasted with the east
wind, sprung up after them:
And the seven thin and ill favoured
kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east
wind shall be seven years of famine.
Moreover, the seven thin,
ugly cows that came up after them are seven years, and so are the seven worthless heads of grain
scorched by the east
wind—they are seven years of famine.
And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and throughout that day and night the LORD sent an east wind across the land. By morning the east wind had brought the locusts.
And the LORD turned a mighty strong west
wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one
locust in all the coasts of Egypt.
And the LORD changed the
wind to a very strong west
wind that carried off the locusts and
blew them into the Red Sea. Not a single
locust remained
anywhere in Egypt.
And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove back the sea with a strong east wind that turned it into dry land. So the waters were divided,
Thou
didst blow with thy
wind, the sea covered them: they
sank as lead in the mighty waters.
But You
blew with Your breath, and the sea covered them. They
sank like lead in the mighty waters.
And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a
faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a
shaken leaf shall
chase them; and they shall
flee, as
fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.
As for those of you who
survive, I will send a
faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies, so that even the sound of a
windblown leaf will put them to flight. And they will
flee as one flees the sword, and fall when no one pursues them.
And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day’s journey on this side, and as it were a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.
Now a
wind sent by the LORD came up, drove in
quail from the sea, and brought them near the camp, about two cubits above the surface of the ground, for a day’s journey in every direction around the camp.
Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

Rahab let them down by a rope through the
window, since the house where she lived was built into the wall of the city.
Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the
window which thou
didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.
unless, when we enter the land, you have
tied this scarlet cord in the
window through which you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother and brothers and all your family into your house.
And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
“Let it be as you say,” she replied, and she sent them away. And when they had gone, she
tied the scarlet cord in the
window.
So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.
So Michal lowered David from the window, and he ran away and escaped.
And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a
window, and saw king David
leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she
despised him in her heart.
As the ark of the LORD was entering the City of David, Saul’s daughter Michal looked down from a
window and saw King David
leaping and dancing before the LORD, and she
despised him in her heart.
And he
rode upon a
cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the
wind.
And for the house he made windows of narrow lights.
He also had narrow windows framed high in the temple.
The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third.
The entrance to the bottom floor was on the south side of the temple. A
stairway led up to the middle level, and from there to the third floor.
And there were windows in three rows, and light was against light in three ranks.
There were three rows of high windows facing one another in three tiers.
And all the doors and posts were square, with the windows: and light was against light in three ranks.
All the doorways had rectangular frames, with the openings facing one another in three tiers.
And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and
wind, and there was a great rain. And
Ahab rode, and went to
Jezreel.
Meanwhile, the sky grew dark with clouds and
wind, and a heavy rain began to fall. So
Ahab rode away and went to
Jezreel.
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong
wind rent the mountains, and
brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the
wind: and after the
wind an
earthquake; but the LORD was not in the
earthquake:
Then the LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD. Behold, the LORD is about to pass by.” And a great and mighty
wind tore into the mountains and
shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the
wind. After the
wind there was an
earthquake, but the LORD was not in the
earthquake.
For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.
For the LORD says, ‘You will not see wind or rain, but the valley will be filled with water, and you will drink—you and your cattle and your animals.’
Then a lord on whose hand the king
leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make
windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
But the officer on whose arm the king
leaned answered the man of God, “Look, even if the LORD were to make
windows in heaven, could this really happen?” “You will see it with your own eyes,” replied
Elisha, “but you will not eat any of it.”
And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
And the officer had answered the man of God, “Look, even if the LORD were to make
windows in heaven, could this really happen?” So
Elisha had replied, “You will see it with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of it!”
And when
Jehu was come to
Jezreel,
Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and
tired her head, and looked out at a
window.
Now when
Jehu arrived in
Jezreel,
Jezebel heard of it. So she painted her eyes, adorned her head, and looked down from a
window.
And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.
He looked up at the window and called out, “Who is on my side? Who?” And two or three eunuchs looked down at him.
And he said, Open the
window eastward. And he opened it. Then
Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The
arrow of the LORD’S
deliverance, and the
arrow of
deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt
smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
“Open the east
window,” said
Elisha. So he opened it and
Elisha said, “Shoot!” So he shot. And
Elisha declared: “This is the LORD’s
arrow of victory, the
arrow of victory over
Aram, for you shall strike the Arameans in Aphek until you have put an end to them.”
And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looking out at a
window saw king David dancing and playing: and she
despised him in her heart.
As the ark of the covenant of the LORD was entering the City of David, Saul’s daughter Michal looked down from a
window and saw King David dancing and
celebrating, and she
despised him in her heart.
And, behold, there came a great
wind from the wilderness, and
smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
when suddenly a mighty
wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It
collapsed on the young people and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
Do ye imagine to reprove words, and the speeches of one that is
desperate, which are as
wind?
Do you intend to correct my words, and treat as
wind my cry of
despair?
O remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good.
Remember that my life is but a breath. My eyes will never again see happiness.
How long
wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong
wind?
“How long will you go on saying such things? The words of your mouth are a
blustering wind.
Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his
belly with the east
wind?
“Does a wise man answer with empty counsel or fill his
belly with the hot east
wind?
Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?
Is there no end to your long-
winded speeches? What provokes you to continue
testifying?
They are as
stubble before the
wind, and as
chaff that the storm carrieth away.
Are they like straw before the
wind, like
chaff swept away by a storm?
The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place.
The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.
To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.
When God fixed the weight of the wind and measured out the waters,
Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the
wind: and my
welfare passeth away as a cloud.
Terrors are turned loose against me; they drive away my dignity as by the wind, and my prosperity has passed like a cloud.
Thou liftest me up to the
wind; thou causest me to
ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance.
You
snatch me up into the
wind and drive me before it; You
toss me about in the storm.
Out of the south cometh the
whirlwind: and cold out of the north.
The
tempest comes from its chamber, and the cold from the driving north
winds.
How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?
You whose clothes get hot when the land lies
hushed under the south
wind,
And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.
Now no one can
gaze at the sun when it is bright in the
skies after the
wind has swept them clean.
By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?
The ungodly are not so: but are like the
chaff which the
wind driveth away.
Not so the wicked! For they are like
chaff driven off by the
wind.
Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and
brimstone, and an
horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.
On the wicked He will rain down
fiery coals and sulfur; a
scorching wind will be their portion.
And he
rode upon a
cherub, and did fly:
yea, he did fly upon the wings of the
wind.
Then did I beat them small as the dust before the
wind: I did cast them out as the
dirt in the streets.
I ground them as dust in the face of the
wind; I
trampled them like mud in the streets.
Let them be as
chaff before the
wind: and let the angel of the LORD
chase them.
May they be like
chaff in the
wind, as the angel of the LORD drives them away.
Thou breakest the ships of
Tarshish with an east
wind.
He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.
He
stirred the east
wind from the heavens and drove the south
wind by His might.
For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
He remembered that they were but flesh, a passing
breeze that does not return.
O my God, make them like a wheel; as the
stubble before the
wind.
For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
when the wind passes over, it vanishes, and its place remembers it no more.
Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his
chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the
wind:
laying the beams of His chambers in the waters above, making the clouds His
chariot, walking on the wings of the
wind.
Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
He makes the winds His messengers, flames of fire His servants.
For he commandeth, and raiseth the
stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
For He spoke and raised a
tempest that lifted the waves of the sea.
He causeth the vapours to
ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the
wind out of his
treasuries.
He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He generates the
lightning with the rain and brings forth the
wind from His storehouses.
He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.
He sends forth His word and melts them; He unleashes His winds, and the waters flow.
For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,
For at the
window of my house I looked through the
lattice.
He that troubleth his own house shall
inherit the
wind: and the
fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.
He who brings trouble on his house will
inherit the
wind, and the
fool will be servant to the wise of heart.
Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and
wind without rain.
Like clouds and wind without rain is the man who boasts of gifts never given.
As the north
wind brings forth rain, so a
backbiting tongue brings
angry looks.
Whosoever hideth her hideth the
wind, and the
ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.
restraining her is like holding back the
wind or
grasping oil with one’s right hand.
Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?
Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the
wind in His hands? Who has bound up the waters in His
cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is the name of His Son— surely you know!
The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
The wind blows southward, then turns northward; round and round it swirls, ever returning on its course.
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
I have seen all the things that are done under the sun, and have found them all to be
futile, a pursuit of the
wind.
And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is
vexation of spirit.
So I set my mind to know wisdom and madness and folly; I learned that this, too, is a pursuit of the wind.
Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and
vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.
Yet when I considered all the works that my hands had accomplished and what I had
toiled to
achieve, I found everything to be
futile, a pursuit of the
wind; there was nothing to be gained under the sun.
Therefore I
hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is
grievous unto me: for all is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
So I
hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was
grievous to me. For everything is
futile and a pursuit of the
wind.
For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the
sinner he giveth
travail, to gather and to
heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
To the man who is pleasing in His sight, He gives wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the
sinner He assigns the task of gathering and
accumulating that which he will hand over to one who pleases God. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the
wind.
Again, I considered all
travail, and every right work, that for this a man is
envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and
vexation of spirit.
I saw that all labor and success spring from a man’s
envy of his
neighbor. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the
wind.
Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with
travail and
vexation of spirit.
Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with
toil and pursuit of the
wind.
There is no end of all the people, even of all that have been before them: they also that come after shall not
rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and
vexation of spirit.
There is no limit to all the people who were before them. Yet the successor will not be celebrated by those who come even later. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the
wind.
And this also is a
sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the
wind?
This too is a
grievous evil: Exactly as a man is born, so he will depart. What does he gain as he toils for the
wind?
Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this is also vanity and
vexation of spirit.
Better what the eye can see than the wandering of desire. This too is
futile and a pursuit of the
wind.
There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.
As no man has power over the wind to contain it, so no one has authority over his day of death. As no one can be discharged in wartime, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.
He that observeth the
wind shall not
sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not
reap.
He who watches the
wind will fail to
sow, and he who observes the clouds will fail to
reap.
As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the
womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
As you do not know the path of the
wind, or how the bones are formed in a mother’s
womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.
In the day when the keepers of the house shall
tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the
windows be
darkened,
on the day the keepers of the house
tremble and the strong men
stoop, when those
grinding cease because they are few and those watching through
windows see
dimly,
My beloved is like a
roe or a young
hart: behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh forth at the
windows,
shewing himself through the
lattice.
Awake, O north
wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.
Awake, O north
wind, and come, O south
wind.
Breathe on my garden and spread the
fragrance of its spices. Let my beloved come into his garden and taste its choicest fruits.
And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is
confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the
wind.
When it was reported to the house of David that
Aram was in league with Ephraim, the hearts of
Ahaz and his people
trembled like trees in the forest
shaken by the
wind.
And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty
wind shall he
shake his hand over the river, and shall
smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over
dryshod.
The LORD will
devote to destruction the gulf of the Sea of Egypt; with a
scorching wind He will
sweep His hand over the Euphrates. He will split it into seven streams for men to cross with dry
sandals.
The nations shall
rush like the
rushing of many waters: but God shall
rebuke them, and they shall
flee far off, and shall be
chased as the
chaff of the mountains before the
wind, and like a rolling thing before the
whirlwind.
The nations
rage like the
rush of many waters. He rebukes them, and they
flee far away, driven before the
wind like
chaff on the hills, like tumbleweeds before a
gale.
And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the
snare: for the
windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do
shake.
Whoever flees the sound of
panic will fall into the pit, and
whoever climbs from the pit will be caught in the
snare. For the
windows of heaven are open, and the foundations of the earth are
shaken.
We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth
wind; we have not wrought any
deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.
We were with child; we
writhed in pain; but we gave birth to
wind. We have given no salvation to the earth, nor brought any life into the world.
In measure, when it shooteth forth, thou
wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough
wind in the day of the east
wind.
By warfare and exile You
contended with her and removed her with a fierce
wind, as on the day the east
wind blows.
