Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; even a
freewill offering, according as thou hast
vowed unto the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised
with thy mouth.
Be careful to follow through on what comes from your lips, because you have freely
vowed to the LORD your God
with your own mouth.
When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest
pluck the ears
with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a
sickle unto thy neighbour’s standing corn.
When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged
with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall
cheer up his wife which he hath taken.
If a man is newly married, he must not be sent to war or be pressed into any duty. For one year he is free to stay at home and bring joy to the wife he has married.
And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep
with his
pledge:
If he is a poor man, you must not go to sleep with the security in your possession;
Thou shalt not
oppress an
hired servant that is poor and
needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land
within thy gates:
Do not
oppress a
hired hand who is poor and
needy, whether he is a brother or a foreigner residing in one of your towns.
And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.
If the guilty man deserves to be beaten, the judge shall have him lie down and be
flogged in his presence
with the number of lashes his crime warrants.
Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these
with many stripes, then thy brother should seem
vile unto thee.
He may receive no more than forty lashes, lest your brother be beaten any more than that and be
degraded in your sight.
If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her.
When brothers dwell together and one of them dies
without a son, the widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother is to take her as his wife and
fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law for her.
Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her;
Then the elders of his city shall
summon him and speak
with him. If he persists and says, “I do not want to marry her,”
When men
strive together one
with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
If two men are fighting, and the wife of one steps in to
rescue her husband from the one striking him, and she reaches out her hand and grabs his
genitals,
And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God, A
Syrian ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and
sojourned there
with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and
populous:
and you are to declare before the LORD your God, “My father was a wandering
Aramean, and he went down to Egypt few in number and lived there and became a great nation, mighty and numerous.
And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders:
Then the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great terror, signs, and wonders.
And he hath brought us into this place, and hath given us this land, even a land that floweth with milk and honey.
And He brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.
When thou hast made an end of
tithing all the
tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of
tithing, and hast given it unto the
Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat
within thy gates, and be filled;
When you have finished laying aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of the
tithe, you are to give it to the
Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat and be filled
within your gates.
Look down from thy holy
habitation, from heaven, and
bless thy people Israel, and the land which thou hast given us, as thou swarest unto our fathers, a land that floweth
with milk and honey.
Look down from Your holy
habitation, from heaven, and
bless Your people Israel and the land You have given us as You
swore to our fathers—a land flowing
with milk and honey.”
This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
The LORD your God commands you this day to follow these statutes and ordinances. You must be careful to follow them with all your heart and with all your soul.
And Moses with the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you this day.
Then Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: “Keep all the commandments I am giving you
today.
And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and
plaister them
with plaister:
And on the day you cross the Jordan into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, set up large stones and coat them
with plaster.
And thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over, that thou mayest go in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, a land that floweth with milk and honey; as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee.
Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
Therefore it shall be when ye be gone over Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount
Ebal, and thou shalt
plaister them
with plaister.
And when you have crossed the Jordan, you are to set up these stones on Mount
Ebal, as I am commanding you
today, and you are to coat them
with plaster.
Thou shalt build the altar of the LORD thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings
thereon unto the LORD thy God:
You shall build the altar of the LORD your God with uncut stones and offer upon it burnt offerings to the LORD your God.
And the Levites shall speak, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice,
Cursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say,
Amen.
‘
Cursed is he who
withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow.’ And let all the people say, ‘
Amen!’
Cursed be he that lieth
with his father’s wife; because he uncovereth his father’s
skirt. And all the people shall say,
Amen.
‘
Cursed is he who sleeps
with his father’s wife, for he has
violated his father’s marriage bed.’ And let all the people say, ‘
Amen!’
Cursed be he that lieth
with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say,
Amen.
‘
Cursed is he who lies
with any animal.’ And let all the people say, ‘
Amen!’
Cursed be he that lieth
with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say,
Amen.
‘
Cursed is he who sleeps
with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.’ And let all the people say, ‘
Amen!’
Cursed be he that lieth
with his mother in law. And all the people shall say,
Amen.
‘
Cursed is he who sleeps
with his mother-in-law.’ And let all the people say, ‘
Amen!’
The LORD shall
smite thee
with a consumption, and
with a fever, and
with an inflammation, and
with an extreme burning, and
with the sword, and
with blasting, and
with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.
The LORD will strike you
with wasting disease,
with fever and inflammation,
with scorching heat and
drought, and
with blight and
mildew; these will pursue you until you perish.
And thy
carcase shall be meat unto all fowls of the air, and unto the beasts of the earth, and no man shall
fray them away.
Your corpses will be food for all the birds of the air and beasts of the earth,
with no one to
scare them away.
The LORD will
afflict you
with the boils of Egypt,
with tumors and scabs and
itch from which you cannot be cured.
The LORD will
afflict you
with madness, blindness, and confusion of mind,
and at
noon you will
grope about like a blind man in the darkness. You will not
prosper in your ways. Day after day you will be
oppressed and
plundered,
with no one to save you.
Thou shalt
betroth a wife, and another man shall lie
with her: thou shalt build an house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a
vineyard, and shalt not gather the grapes thereof.
You will be
pledged in marriage to a woman, but another man will
violate her. You will build a house but will not live in it. You will plant a
vineyard but will not enjoy its fruit.
Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long: and there shall be no might in thine hand.
Your sons and daughters will be given to another nation, while your eyes grow
weary looking for them day after day,
with no power in your hand.
The LORD shall
smite thee in the knees, and in the legs,
with a
sore botch that cannot be
healed, from the sole of thy foot unto the top of thy head.
The LORD will
afflict you
with painful, incurable boils on your knees and thighs, from the soles of your feet to the top of your head.
Thou shalt have olive trees throughout all thy coasts, but thou shalt not
anoint thyself with the oil; for thine olive shall cast his fruit.
You will have olive trees throughout your territory but will never
anoint yourself with oil, because the olives will drop off.
The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low.
The foreigner living among you will rise higher and higher above you, while you sink down lower and lower.
Because thou servedst not the LORD thy God
with joyfulness, and
with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things;
Because you did not serve the LORD your God
with joy and
gladness of heart in all your abundance,
A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor
shew favour to the young:
a
ruthless nation
with no respect for the old and no
pity for the young.
So that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat: because he hath nothing left him in the siege, and in the straitness,
wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee in all thy gates.
refusing to share
with any of them the flesh of his children he will eat because he has nothing left in the siege and distress that your enemy will
inflict on you
within all your gates.
And toward her young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly in the siege and straitness,
wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates.
the
afterbirth that comes from between her legs and the children she bears, because she will secretly eat them for lack of anything else in the siege and distress that your enemy will
inflict on you
within your gates.
Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou
wast afraid of; and they shall
cleave unto thee.
He will
afflict you again
with all the diseases you
dreaded in Egypt, and they will
cling to you.
And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again
with ships, by the way
whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for
bondmen and
bondwomen, and no man shall
buy you.
The LORD will return you to Egypt in ships by a route that I said you should never see again. There you will sell
yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will
buy you.”
These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make
with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made
with them in
Horeb.
These are the words of the covenant that the LORD commanded Moses to make
with the Israelites in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant He had made
with them at
Horeb.
And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;
Moses summoned all Israel and proclaimed to them, “You have seen with your own eyes everything the LORD did in Egypt to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to all his land.
The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles:
You saw
with your own eyes the great trials, and those
miraculous signs and wonders.
Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel,
All of you are standing
today before the LORD your God—you leaders of tribes, elders, officials, and all the men of Israel,
That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day:
so that you may enter into the covenant of the LORD your God, which He is making
with you
today, and into His oath,
Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;
I am making this covenant and this oath not only with you,
But with him that standeth here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day:
but also
with those who are standing here
with us
today in the presence of the LORD our God, as well as
with those who are not here
today.
And that the whole land thereof is
brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of
Sodom, and
Gomorrah, Admah, and
Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
All its soil will be a burning waste of sulfur and salt, unsown and unproductive,
with no plant growing on it, just like the destruction of
Sodom and
Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His fierce anger.
Then men shall say, Because they have
forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made
with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt:
And the people will answer, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.
And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;
and when you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey His voice
with all your heart and all your soul according to everything I am giving you
today,
And the LORD thy God will
circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God
with all thine heart, and
with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
The LORD your God will
circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, and you will love Him
with all your heart and
with all your soul, so that you may live.
If thou shalt
hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God
with all thine heart, and
with all thy soul.
if you obey the LORD your God by keeping His commandments and statutes that are written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and
cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
I call heaven and earth as
witnesses against you
today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and
cursing. Therefore choose life, so that you and your descendants may live,
And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to
Og, kings of the
Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed.
And the LORD will do to them as He did to Sihon and
Og, the kings of the
Amorites, when He destroyed them along
with their land.
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that
doth go
with thee; he will not fail thee, nor
forsake thee.
Be strong and
courageous; do not be afraid or
terrified of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes
with you; He will never leave you nor
forsake you.”
And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go
with this people unto the land which the LORD hath
sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to
inherit it.
Then Moses called for Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and
courageous, for you will go
with this people into the land that the LORD
swore to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance.
And the LORD, he it is that
doth go before thee; he will be
with thee, he will not fail thee, neither
forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
The LORD Himself goes before you; He will be
with you. He will never leave you nor
forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.”
Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:
Assemble the people—men, women, children, and the foreigners
within your gates—so that they may
listen and learn to fear the LORD your God and to follow carefully all the words of this law.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep
with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a
whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land,
whither they go to be among them, and will
forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made
with them.
And the LORD said to Moses, “You will soon rest
with your fathers, and these people will rise up and
prostitute themselves
with the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will
forsake Me and break the covenant I have made
with them.
Then my anger shall be
kindled against them in that day, and I will
forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be
devoured, and many evils and troubles shall
befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?
On that day My anger will burn against them, and I will
abandon them and hide My face from them, so that they will be consumed, and many troubles and afflictions will
befall them. On that day they will say, ‘Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is no longer
with us?’
Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach it the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.
Now therefore, write down for
yourselves this song and teach it to the Israelites; have them
recite it, so that it may be a
witness for Me against them.
For when I shall have brought them into the land which I
sware unto their fathers, that floweth
with milk and honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and
waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and
provoke me, and break my covenant.
When I have brought them into the land that I
swore to give their fathers, a land flowing
with milk and honey, they will eat their fill and
prosper. Then they will turn to other gods and worship them, and they will
reject Me and break My covenant.
And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are
befallen them, that this song shall
testify against them as a
witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they go about, even now, before I have brought them into the land which I
sware.
And when many troubles and afflictions have come upon them, this song will
testify against them, because it will not be forgotten from the lips of their descendants. For I know their inclination, even before I bring them into the land that I
swore to give them.”
And he gave Joshua the son of
Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I
sware unto them: and I will be
with thee.
Then the LORD commissioned Joshua son of
Nun and said, “Be strong and
courageous, for you will bring the Israelites into the land that I
swore to give them, and I will be
with you.”
Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.
“Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, so that it may remain there as a witness against you.
For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive
with you this day, ye have been
rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?
For I know how
rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you are already rebelling against the LORD while I am still alive, how much more will you
rebel after my death!
Gather unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to record against them.
Assemble before me all the elders of your tribes and all your officers so that I may speak these words in their hearing and call heaven and earth to
witness against them.
He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
He is the Rock, His work is perfect; all His ways are just. A God of faithfulness without injustice, righteous and upright is He.
So the LORD alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.
The LORD alone led him, and no foreign god was with him.
He made him
ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to
suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the
flinty rock;
He made him
ride on the heights of the land and fed him the produce of the field. He
nourished him
with honey from the rock and oil from the
flinty crag,
Butter of
kine, and milk of sheep,
with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of
Bashan, and goats,
with the fat of
kidneys of wheat; and thou
didst drink the pure blood of the
grape.
with curds from the
herd and milk from the flock,
with the fat of lambs,
with rams from
Bashan, and goats,
with the choicest grains of wheat. From the juice of the finest grapes you
drank the wine.
But
Jeshurun waxed fat, and
kicked: thou art
waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered
with fatness; then he
forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
They
provoked him to jealousy
with strange gods,
with abominations
provoked they him to anger.
They
provoked His jealousy
with foreign gods; they
enraged Him
with abominations.
They have moved me to jealousy
with that which is not God; they have
provoked me to anger
with their
vanities: and I will move them to jealousy
with those which are not a people; I will
provoke them to anger
with a
foolish nation.
They have
provoked My jealousy by that which is not God; they have
enraged Me
with their worthless idols. So I will make them
jealous by those who are not a people; I will make them
angry by a nation
without understanding.
For a fire is
kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest
hell, and shall
consume the earth
with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.
For a fire has been
kindled by My anger, and it burns to the depths of
Sheol; it consumes the earth and its produce, and scorches the foundations of the mountains.
They shall be burnt
with hunger, and
devoured with burning heat, and
with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them,
with the poison of serpents of the dust.
They will be wasted from hunger and
ravaged by
pestilence and bitter plague; I will send the fangs of wild beasts against them,
with the
venom of vipers that
slither in the dust.
The sword
without, and terror
within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the
suckling also
with the man of gray hairs.
Outside, the sword will take their children, and inside, terror will strike the young man and the young woman, the infant and the gray-haired man.
For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them.
Israel is a nation devoid of counsel, with no understanding among them.
Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up among my treasures?
“Have I not stored up these things, sealed up within My vaults?
See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god
with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I
heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
See now that I am He; there is no God besides Me. I bring death and I give life; I wound and I
heal, and there is no one who can deliver from My hand.
I will make mine arrows
drunk with blood, and my sword shall
devour flesh; and that
with the blood of the slain and of the
captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy.
I will make My arrows
drunk with blood, while My sword devours flesh— the blood of the slain and
captives, the heads of the enemy leaders.”
Rejoice, O heavens,
with Him, and let all God’s angels worship Him.
Rejoice, O nations,
with His people; for He will
avenge the blood of His children. He will take
vengeance on His
adversaries and repay those who
hate Him; He will
cleanse His land and His people.
And Moses came and spake all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of
Nun.
Then Moses came
with Joshua son of
Nun and recited all the words of this song in the hearing of the people.
Because ye
trespassed against me among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye
sanctified me not in the midst of the children of Israel.
For at the waters of Meribah-kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin, both of you broke faith with Me among the Israelites by failing to treat Me as holy in their presence.
And he said, The LORD came from
Sinai, and rose up from
Seir unto them; he
shined forth from mount
Paran, and he came
with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a
fiery law for them.
He said: “The LORD came from
Sinai and
dawned upon us from
Seir; He
shone forth from Mount
Paran and came
with myriads of holy ones,
with flaming fire at His right hand.
And this is the blessing of Judah: and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people: let his hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help to him from his enemies.
And concerning Judah he said: “O LORD, hear the cry of Judah and bring him to his people. With his own hands he defends his cause, but may You be a help against his foes.”
And of Levi he said, Let thy
Thummim and thy
Urim be
with thy holy one, whom thou
didst prove at Massah, and
with whom thou
didst strive at the waters of Meribah;
Concerning Levi he said: “Give Your
Thummim to Levi and Your
Urim to Your godly one, whom You tested at Massah and contested at the waters of Meribah.
And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the
dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath,
Concerning Joseph he said: “May his land be blessed by the LORD
with the precious
dew from heaven above and the deep waters that lie beneath,
And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon,
with the
bountiful harvest from the sun and the abundant yield of the seasons,
And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills,
And for the precious things of the earth and
fulness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the
bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren.
with the choice gifts of the land and everything in it, and
with the favor of Him who dwelt in the burning
bush. May these rest on the head of Joseph and crown the
brow of the prince of his brothers.
His glory is like the
firstling of his
bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns:
with them he shall
push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of
Manasseh.
His majesty is like a
firstborn bull, and his horns are like those of a wild ox.
With them he will
gore the nations, even to the ends of the earth. Such are the myriads of Ephraim, and such are the thousands of
Manasseh.”
And of
Gad he said, Blessed be he that enlargeth
Gad: he dwelleth as a lion, and teareth the arm
with the crown of the head.
Concerning
Gad he said: “Blessed is he who enlarges the
domain of
Gad! He lies down like a lion and tears off an arm or a head.
And he provided the first part for himself, because there, in a portion of the
lawgiver, was he seated; and he came
with the heads of the people, he executed the justice of the LORD, and his judgments
with Israel.
He chose the best land for himself, because a ruler’s portion was reserved for him there. He came with the leaders of the people; he administered the LORD’s justice and His ordinances for Israel.”
And of
Naphtali he said, O
Naphtali, satisfied
with favour, and full
with the blessing of the LORD: possess thou the west and the south.
Concerning
Naphtali he said: “
Naphtali is abounding
with favor, full of the blessing of the LORD; he shall take possession of the sea and the south.”
And of Asher he said, Let Asher be blessed with children; let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in oil.
And concerning Asher he said: “May Asher be the most blessed of sons; may he be the most favored among his brothers and dip his foot in oil.
Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down
dew.
So Israel dwells securely; the fountain of Jacob lives untroubled in a land of grain and new wine, where even the heavens
drip with dew.
