It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.
The Sea stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east. The Sea rested on them, with all their hindquarters toward the center.
And the thickness of it was an
handbreadth, and the
brim of it like the work of the
brim of a cup,
with flowers of
lilies; and it received and held three thousand baths.
Furthermore he made the court of the priests, and the great court, and doors for the court, and overlaid the doors of them
with brass.
He made the
courtyard of the priests and the large court
with its doors, and he overlaid the doors
with bronze.
To

Moreover the candlesticks
with their lamps, that they should burn after the manner before the
oracle, of pure gold;
the lampstands of pure gold and their lamps, to burn in front of the inner sanctuary as prescribed;
And they brought up the ark, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, these did the priests and the Levites bring up.
and they brought up the ark and the Tent of Meeting
with all its sacred furnishings. The
Levitical priests carried them up.
Also king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multitude.
There, before the ark, King Solomon and the whole congregation of Israel who had assembled with him sacrificed so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered.
And they drew out the
staves of the ark, that the ends of the
staves were seen from the ark before the
oracle; but they were not seen
without. And there it is unto this day.
The poles of the ark extended far enough that their ends were visible from in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are there to this day.
There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at
Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant
with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.
There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at
Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant
with the Israelites after they had come out of Egypt.
Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of
Asaph, of Heman, of
Jeduthun,
with their sons and their brethren, being
arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and
psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and
with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding
with trumpets:)
all the
Levitical singers—
Asaph, Heman,
Jeduthun, and their sons and relatives—stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps, and lyres, accompanied by 120 priests sounding
trumpets.
It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and
thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice
with the
trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled
with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
The trumpeters and singers joined together to praise and
thank the LORD
with one voice. They lifted up their voices, accompanied by
trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments, in praise to the LORD: “For He is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.” And the temple, the house of the LORD, was filled
with a cloud
And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,
and said: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has fulfilled with His own hand what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying,
And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the children of Israel.
And there I have provided a place for the ark, which contains the covenant of the LORD that He made with the children of Israel.”
And said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:
and said: “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven or on earth, keeping Your covenant of loving devotion with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.
Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.
You have kept Your promise to Your servant, my father David. What You spoke with Your mouth You have fulfilled with Your hand this day.
Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep
with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take
heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.
Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’
But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!
But will God indeed dwell with man upon the earth? Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain You, much less this temple I have built.
If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be
angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away
captives unto a land far off or near;
When they sin against You—for there is no one who does not sin—and You become
angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who takes them as
captives to a land far or near,
Yet if they
bethink themselves in the land
whither they are carried
captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have
sinned, we have done
amiss, and have dealt wickedly;
and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were taken, and they
repent and
plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have
sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’
If they return to thee
with all their heart and
with all their soul in the land of their captivity,
whither they have carried them
captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:
and when they return to You
with all their heart and soul in the land of the enemies who took them
captive, and when they pray in the direction of the land that You gave to their fathers, the city You have chosen, and the house I have built for Your Name,
Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed
with salvation, and let thy saints
rejoice in goodness.
Now therefore, arise, O LORD God, and enter Your resting place, You and the ark of Your might. May Your priests, O LORD God, be clothed
with salvation, and may Your godly ones
rejoice in goodness.
And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves
with their faces to the ground upon the
pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the LORD above the temple, they bowed down on the
pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave
thanks to the LORD: “For He is good; His loving devotion endures
forever.”
And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also
with instruments of musick of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded
trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.
The priests stood at their posts, as did the Levites
with the musical instruments of the LORD, which King David had made for giving
thanks to the LORD and
with which David had offered praise, saying, “For His loving devotion endures
forever.” Across from the Levites, the priests sounded
trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing.
Also at the same time Solomon kept the feast seven days, and all Israel
with him, a very great congregation, from the entering in of
Hamath unto the river of Egypt.
So at that time Solomon and all Israel
with him—a very great assembly of people from Lebo-
hamath to the
Brook of Egypt—kept the feast for seven days.
Then will I
stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted
with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.
then I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with your father David when I said, ‘You will never fail to have a man to rule over Israel.’
Also he built Beth-horon the upper, and Beth-horon the
nether,
fenced cities,
with walls, gates, and bars;
He rebuilt Upper and Lower Beth-horon as fortified cities with walls, gates, and bars,
And he appointed, according to the order of David his father, the courses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required: the
porters also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the man of God commanded.
In keeping with the ordinances of his father David, Solomon appointed the divisions of the priests over their service, and the Levites for their duties to offer praise and to minister before the priests according to the daily requirement. He also appointed gatekeepers by their divisions at each gate, for this had been the command of David, the man of God.
And Huram sent him by the hands of his servants ships, and servants that had knowledge of the sea; and they went
with the servants of Solomon to
Ophir, and took thence four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and brought them to king Solomon.
So
Hiram sent him ships captained by his servants, along
with crews of experienced sailors. They went
with Solomon’s servants to
Ophir and acquired from there 450 talents of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon.
And when the queen of
Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon
with hard questions at Jerusalem,
with a very great company, and camels that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Solomon, she communed
with him of all that was in her heart.
Now when the queen of
Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon, she came to test him
with difficult questions. She arrived in Jerusalem
with a very large
caravan—
with camels bearing spices, gold in abundance, and precious stones. So she came to Solomon and spoke
with him about all that was on her mind.
Howbeit I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard.
But I did not believe the reports until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not half of the greatness of your wisdom was told to me. You have far exceeded the report I heard.
And king Solomon gave to the queen of
Sheba all her desire,
whatsoever she asked, beside that which she had brought unto the king. So she turned, and went away to her own land, she and her servants.
King Solomon gave the queen of
Sheba all she desired—whatever she asked—far more than she had brought the king. Then she left and returned to her own country, along
with her servants.
Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold.
Additionally, the king made a great throne of ivory and overlaid it with pure gold.
And there were six steps to the throne,
with a
footstool of gold, which were fastened to the throne, and stays on each side of the sitting place, and two lions standing by the stays:
The throne had six steps, and a
footstool of gold was attached to it. There were armrests on both sides of the seat,
with a lion standing beside each armrest.
For the king’s ships went to
Tarshish with the servants of Huram: every three years once came the ships of
Tarshish bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.
For the king had the ships of
Tarshish that went
with Hiram’s servants, and once every three years the ships of
Tarshish would arrive bearing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.
And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.
All the kings of the earth sought an
audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom that God had put in his heart.
And Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and
chariots, and twelve thousand
horsemen; whom he bestowed in the
chariot cities, and
with the king at Jerusalem.
Solomon had 4,000 stalls for horses and
chariots, and 12,000 horses, which he stationed in the
chariot cities and also
with him in Jerusalem.
And Solomon
slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David his father: and
Rehoboam his son reigned in his
stead.
And Solomon rested
with his fathers and was buried in the city of his father David. And his son
Rehoboam reigned in his place.
And king
Rehoboam took counsel
with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
Then King
Rehoboam consulted
with the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. “How do you
advise me to
respond to these people?” he asked.
But he
forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel
with the young men that were brought up
with him, that stood before him.
But
Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders; instead, he consulted the young men who had grown up
with him and served him.
And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s loins.
The young men who had grown up
with him replied, “This is how you should answer these people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you should make it lighter.’ This is what you should tell them: ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s
waist!
For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father
chastised you
with whips, but I will
chastise you
with scorpions.
Whereas my father burdened you
with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father
scourged you
with whips, I will
scourge you
with scorpions.’”
And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add
thereto: my father
chastised you
with whips, but I will
chastise you
with scorpions.
and spoke to them as the young men had
advised, saying, “Whereas my father made your yoke heavy, I will add to your yoke. Whereas my father
scourged you
with whips, I will
scourge you
with scorpions.”
Then king
Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him
with stones, that he died. But king
Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his
chariot, to
flee to Jerusalem.
Then King
Rehoboam sent out Hadoram, who was in charge of the forced labor, but the Israelites stoned him to death. And King
Rehoboam mounted his
chariot in
haste and escaped to Jerusalem.
And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of
victual, and of oil and wine.
He strengthened their fortresses and put officers in them, with supplies of food, oil, and wine.
And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.
Moreover, the priests and Levites from all their districts throughout Israel stood
with Rehoboam.
And it came to pass, when
Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he
forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel
with him.
After
Rehoboam had established his sovereignty and royal power, he and all Israel
with him
forsook the Law of the LORD.
With twelve hundred
chariots, and
threescore thousand
horsemen: and the people were
without number that came
with him out of Egypt; the Lubim, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.
with 1,200
chariots, 60,000
horsemen, and countless troops who came
with him out of Egypt—Libyans, Sukkites, and Cushites.
And when the king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and
fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.
And whenever the king entered the house of the LORD, the guards would go
with him, bearing the shields, and later they would return them to the
guardroom.
And
Rehoboam rested
with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his son
Abijah reigned in his place.
And
Abijah set the battle in
array with an army of
valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men:
Jeroboam also set the battle in
array against him
with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.
Abijah went into battle
with an army of 400,000 chosen men, while
Jeroboam drew up in formation against him
with 800,000 chosen and mighty men of
valor.
And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of
Belial, and have strengthened themselves against
Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when
Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not
withstand them.
Then worthless and wicked men gathered around him to resist
Rehoboam son of Solomon when he was young, inexperienced, and unable to resist them.
And now ye think to
withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are
with you golden
calves, which
Jeroboam made you for gods.
And now you think you can resist the kingdom of the LORD, which is in the hands of David’s descendants. You are indeed a vast army, and you have
with you the golden
calves that
Jeroboam made for you as gods.
Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that
whosoever cometh to
consecrate himself
with a young
bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
But did you not drive out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites? And did you not make priests for
yourselves as do the peoples of other lands? Now
whoever comes to
consecrate himself
with a young bull and seven rams can become a priest of things that are not gods.
And they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the
shewbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the
candlestick of gold
with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but ye have
forsaken him.
Every morning and every evening they present burnt offerings and
fragrant incense to the LORD. They set out the rows of
showbread on the
ceremonially clean table, and every evening they light the lamps of the gold lampstand. We are carrying out the requirements of the LORD our God, while you have
forsaken Him.
And, behold, God himself is
with us for our captain, and his priests
with sounding
trumpets to cry
alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not
prosper.
Now behold, God Himself is
with us as our head, and His priests
with their
trumpets sound the battle call against you. O children of Israel, do not fight against the LORD, the God of your fathers, for you will not succeed.”
And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they
cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded
with the
trumpets.
When Judah turned and discovered that the battle was both before and behind them, they
cried out to the LORD. Then the priests
blew the
trumpets,
And
Abijah and his people
slew them
with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.
Then
Abijah and his people struck them
with a mighty blow, and 500,000 chosen men of Israel fell slain.
And
Abijah pursued after
Jeroboam, and took cities from him,
Bethel with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah
with the towns thereof, and Ephrain
with the towns thereof.
Abijah pursued
Jeroboam and captured some cities from him:
Bethel, Jeshanah, and Ephron, along
with their villages.
And the rest of the acts of
Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the story of the prophet
Iddo.
Now the rest of the acts of
Abijah, along
with his ways and his words, are written in the Treatise of the Prophet
Iddo.
So
Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and
Asa his son reigned in his
stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
Then
Abijah rested
with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his son
Asa reigned in his place, and in his days the land was at peace for ten years.
And he built
fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
Because the land was at peace,
Asa built fortified cities in Judah. In those days no one made war
with him, because the LORD had given him rest.
Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and
prospered.
So he said to the people of Judah, “Let us build these cities and
surround them
with walls and towers,
with doors and bars. The land is still ours because we have sought the LORD our God. We have sought Him and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and
prospered.
And there came out against them Zerah the
Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred
chariots; and came unto Mareshah.
Then Zerah the
Cushite came against them
with an army of 1,000,000 men and 300
chariots, and they advanced as far as Mareshah.
And
Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing
with thee to help, whether
with many, or
with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
Then
Asa cried out to the LORD his God: “O LORD, there is no one besides You to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we
rely on You, and in Your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God. Do not let a mere
mortal prevail against You.”
And
Asa and the people that were
with him pursued them unto
Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much
spoil.
Then
Asa and his army pursued them as far as
Gerar. The Cushites fell and could not recover, for they were
crushed before the LORD and His army. So the people of Judah carried off a great amount of
plunder And he went out to meet
Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me,
Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is
with you, while ye be
with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye
forsake him, he will
forsake you.
So he went out to meet
Asa and said to him, “
Listen to me,
Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is
with you when you are
with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you
forsake Him, He will
forsake you.
Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.
For many years Israel has been
without the true God,
without a priest to
instruct them, and
without the law.
And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city: for God did
vex them
with all
adversity.
And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers
with them out of Ephraim and
Manasseh, and out of
Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was
with him.
And he assembled all Judah and Benjamin, along
with those from the tribes of Ephraim,
Manasseh, and
Simeon who had settled among them, for great numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was
with him.
And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;
Then they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul.
They took an oath to the LORD
with a loud voice,
with shouting,
trumpets, and rams’ horns.
And all Judah
rejoiced at the oath: for they had
sworn with all their heart, and sought him
with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.
And all Judah
rejoiced over the oath, for they had
sworn it
with all their heart. They had sought Him earnestly, and He was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.
Then
Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king’s house, and sent to Ben-
hadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
So
Asa withdrew the silver and gold from the
treasuries of the house of the LORD and the royal palace, and he sent it
with this message to Ben-
hadad king of
Aram, who was ruling in Damascus:
There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league
with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
“Let there be a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father. See, I have sent you silver and gold. Now go and break your treaty
with Baasha king of Israel, so that he will
withdraw from me.”
Then King
Asa brought all the men of Judah, and they carried away the stones of
Ramah and the timbers
Baasha had used for building. And
with these materials he built up Geba and
Mizpah.
Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host,
with very many
chariots and
horsemen? yet, because thou
didst rely on the LORD, he delivered them into thine hand.
Were not the Cushites and Libyans a vast army
with many
chariots and
horsemen? Yet because you
relied on the LORD, He delivered them into your hand.
Then
Asa was
wroth with the
seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a
rage with him because of this thing. And
Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.
And
Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and
fortieth year of his reign.
So in the forty-first year of his reign,
Asa died and rested
with his fathers.
And they buried him in his own
sepulchres, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled
with sweet odours and
divers kinds of spices prepared by the
apothecaries’ art: and they made a very great burning for him.
And he was buried in the tomb that he had cut out for himself in the City of David. They laid him on a
bier that was full of spices and various
blended perfumes; then they made a great fire in his honor.
And the LORD was
with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto
Baalim;
Now the LORD was
with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek out the Baals,
And
with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and
Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and
Tob-adonijah, Levites; and
with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.
accompanied by certain Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah,
Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and
Tob-adonijah—along
with the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD. They went throughout the towns of Judah and taught the people.
And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand.
These are their numbers according to the houses of their fathers: From Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and
with him 300,000 mighty men of
valor;
And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and
with him two hundred and
fourscore thousand.
next to him, Jehohanan the commander, and with him 280,000;
And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.
and next to him, Amasiah son of Zichri, the
volunteer for the LORD, and
with him 200,000 mighty men of
valor.
And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.
From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of
valor, and
with him 200,000 armed
with bows and shields;
And next him was Jehozabad, and
with him an hundred and
fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.
and next to him, Jehozabad, and with him 180,000 armed for battle.
Now
Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, and joined affinity
with Ahab.
Now
Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance, and he allied himself
with Ahab by marriage.
And after certain years he went down to
Ahab to Samaria. And
Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that he had
with him, and persuaded him to go up
with him to
Ramoth-
gilead.
And some years later he went down to visit
Ahab in Samaria, where
Ahab sacrificed many sheep and cattle for him and the people
with him, and urged him to march up to
Ramoth-
gilead.
And
Ahab king of Israel said unto
Jehoshaphat king of Judah,
Wilt thou go
with me to
Ramoth-
gilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and we will be
with thee in the war.
Ahab king of Israel asked
Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go
with me against
Ramoth-
gilead?” And
Jehoshaphat replied, “I am like you, and my people are your people; we will join you in the war.”
And the king of Israel and
Jehoshaphat king of Judah sat either of them on his throne, clothed in their robes, and they sat in a void place at the entering in of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets
prophesied before them.
Dressed in royal
attire, the king of Israel and
Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting on their thrones at the
threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria,
with all the prophets
prophesying before them.
And
Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith the LORD,
With these thou shalt
push Syria until they be consumed.
Now
Zedekiah son of Chenaanah had made for himself iron horns and declared, “This is what the LORD says: ‘
With these you shall
gore the Arameans until they are finished off.’”
And the
messenger that went to call Micaiah spake to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king
with one assent; let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speak thou good.
Then the
messenger who had gone to call Micaiah
instructed him, “Behold,
with one
accord the words of the prophets are favorable to the king. So please let your words be like theirs, and speak
favorably.”
Then he said, I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no
shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return therefore every man to his house in peace.
So Micaiah declared: “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep
without a
shepherd. And the LORD said, ‘These people have no master; let each one return home in peace.’”
Then
Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and
smote Micaiah upon the
cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?
Then
Zedekiah son of Chenaanah went up, struck Micaiah in the face, and demanded, “Which way did the Spirit of the LORD go when He departed from me to speak
with you?”
And say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him
with bread of
affliction and
with water of
affliction, until I return in peace.
and tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’”
Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the
chariots that were
with him, saying, Fight ye not
with small or great, save only
with the king of Israel.
Now the king of
Aram had ordered his
chariot commanders, “Do not fight
with anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.”
And a certain man drew a bow at a
venture, and
smote the king of Israel between the joints of the
harness: therefore he said to his
chariot man, Turn thine hand, that thou mayest carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
However, a certain man drew his bow
without taking special aim, and he struck the king of Israel between the joints of his
armor. So the king said to his
charioteer, “Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am badly wounded!”
And said to the judges, Take
heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the LORD, who is
with you in the judgment.
Then he said to the judges, “Consider carefully what you do, for you are not judging for man, but for the LORD, who is with you when you render judgment.
Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take
heed and do it: for there is no iniquity
with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
And now, may the fear of the LORD be upon you. Be careful what you do, for
with the LORD our God there is no injustice or
partiality or
bribery.”
