For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a
fool’s voice is known by multitude of
words.
As a dream comes through many cares, so the speech of a
fool comes with many
words.
Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be
angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?
Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin, and do not tell the
messenger that your
vow was a mistake. Why should God be
angry with your
words and destroy the work of your hands?
For in the multitude of dreams and many
words there are also
divers vanities: but fear thou God.
For as many dreams bring
futility, so do many
words. Therefore, fear God.
Seeing there be many things that increase vanity, what is man the better?
For the more
words, the more
futility—and how does that profit
anyone?
Also take no
heed unto all
words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant
curse thee:
Do not pay attention to every
word that is spoken, or you may hear your servant
cursing you.
Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?
For the king’s word is supreme, and who can say to him, “What are you doing?”
Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is
despised, and his
words are not heard.
And I said, “Wisdom is better than strength, but the wisdom of the poor man is
despised, and his
words are not
heeded.”
The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
The calm
words of the wise are
heeded over the shouts of a ruler among fools.
The beginning of his talk is folly, and the end of his speech is evil madness.
A
fool also is full of
words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?
Yet the
fool multiplies
words. No one knows what is coming, and who can tell him what will come after him?
Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and
curse not the rich in thy
bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
Do not
curse the king even in your thoughts, or
curse the rich even in your
bedroom, for a bird of the air may carry your
words, and a winged creature may report your speech.
The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.
The Teacher searched to find delightful sayings and to record accurate words of truth.
The
words of the wise are as goads, and as
nails fastened by the masters of
assemblies, which are given from one
shepherd.
The
words of the wise are like goads, and the anthologies of the masters are like firmly
embedded nails driven by a single
Shepherd.
Hear the
word of the LORD, ye rulers of
Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of
Gomorrah.
Hear the
word of the LORD, you rulers of
Sodom;
listen to the instruction of our God, you people of
Gomorrah!
The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
This is the message that was revealed to Isaiah son of Amoz concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of
Zion shall go forth the law, and the
word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And many peoples will come and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways so that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go forth from
Zion, and the
word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
Therefore as the fire devoureth the
stubble, and the flame consumeth the
chaff, so their root shall be as
rottenness, and their
blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and
despised the
word of the Holy One of Israel.
Therefore, as a tongue of fire consumes the straw, and as dry grass shrivels in the flame, so their roots will decay and their blossoms will blow away like dust; for they have rejected the instruction of the LORD of Hosts and
despised the
word of the Holy One of Israel.
Take counsel together, and it shall come to
nought; speak the
word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.
Devise a plan, but it will be
thwarted; state a proposal, but it will not happen. For God is with us.”
To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this
word, they have no light of
dawn.
The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.
The Lord has sent a message against Jacob, and it has fallen upon Israel.
This is the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning Moab since that time.
This is the message that the LORD spoke earlier concerning Moab.
The burden of Tyre.
Howl, ye ships of
Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of
Chittim it is revealed to them.
This is the burden against Tyre:
Wail, O ships of
Tarshish, for Tyre is laid waste, without house or
harbor.
Word has reached them from the land of
Cyprus.
The land shall be utterly
emptied, and utterly
spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this
word.
The earth will be utterly laid waste and thoroughly
plundered. For the LORD has spoken this
word.
But the
word of the LORD was unto them
precept upon
precept,
precept upon
precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and
snared, and taken.
Then the
word of the LORD to them will become: “Order on order, order on order, line on line, line on line; a little here, a little there,” so that they will go
stumbling backward and will be injured, ensnared, and captured.
Wherefore hear the
word of the LORD, ye
scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.
Therefore hear the word of the LORD, O scoffers who rule this people in Jerusalem.
And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall
whisper out of the dust.
You will be brought low, you will speak from the ground, and out of the dust your
words will be
muffled. Your voice will be like a spirit from the ground; your speech will
whisper out of the dust.
And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed:
And the entire vision will be to you like the
words sealed in a
scroll. If it is handed to someone to read, he will say, “I cannot, because it is sealed.”
And in that day shall the
deaf hear the
words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.
On that day the
deaf will hear the
words of the
scroll, and out of the deep darkness the eyes of the blind will see.
That make a man an
offender for a
word, and lay a
snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of
nought.
those who
indict a man with a
word, who
ensnare the
mediator at the gate, and who with false charges deprive the innocent of justice.
Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets,
Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things,
prophesy deceits:
They say to the seers, “Stop seeing visions!” and to the prophets, “Do not
prophesy to us the truth! Speak to us pleasant
words;
prophesy illusions.
Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye
despise this
word, and trust in oppression and
perverseness, and stay
thereon:
Therefore this is what the Holy One of Israel says: “Because you have rejected this message, trusting in oppression and relying on
deceit,
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
And whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.”
Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.
Yet He too is wise and brings
disaster; He does not call back His
words. He will rise up against the house of the wicked and against the allies of evildoers.
The instruments also of the
churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying
words, even when the
needy speaketh right.
The weapons of the
scoundrel are destructive; he hatches plots to destroy the poor with lies, even when the
plea of the
needy is just.
Rise up, ye women that are at ease; hear my voice, ye careless daughters; give ear unto my speech.
I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain
words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom
dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
You claim to have a
strategy and strength for war, but these are empty
words. In whom are you now trusting, that you have rebelled against me?
But
Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these
words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own
piss with you?
But the
Rabshakeh replied, “Has my master sent me to speak these
words only to you and your master, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are destined with you to eat their own dung and drink their own
urine?”
Then
Rabshakeh stood, and
cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and said, Hear ye the
words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
Then the
Rabshakeh stood and called out loudly in Hebrew: “Hear the
words of the great king, the king of Assyria!
But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
But the people remained silent and did not answer a
word, for
Hezekiah had commanded, “Do not answer him.”
Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the
scribe, and Joah, the son of
Asaph, the recorder, to
Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the
words of
Rabshakeh.
It may be the LORD thy God will hear the
words of
Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the
words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the
remnant that is left.
Perhaps the LORD your God will hear the
words of the
Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to
defy the living God, and He will
rebuke him for the
words that the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the
remnant that still survives.”
And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the
words that thou hast heard,
wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have
blasphemed me.
who replied, “Tell your master that this is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid of the
words you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have
blasphemed Me.
Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the
words of
Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God.
Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see.
Listen to all the
words that
Sennacherib has sent to
defy the living God.
This is the
word which the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of
Zion, hath
despised thee, and
laughed thee to
scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath
shaken her head at thee.
this is the
word that the LORD has spoken against him: ‘The Virgin Daughter of
Zion despises you and mocks you; the Daughter of Jerusalem shakes her head behind you.
Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying,
And the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying,
Then said Isaiah to
Hezekiah, Hear the
word of the LORD of hosts:
Then Isaiah said to
Hezekiah, “Hear the
word of the LORD of Hosts:
Then said
Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the
word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.
But
Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The
word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “At least there will be peace and security in my lifetime.”
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
The grass
withers and the flowers fall, but the
word of our God stands
forever.”
Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and
beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous?
yea, there is none that sheweth,
yea, there is none that declareth,
yea, there is none that heareth your
words.
Who has declared this from the beginning, so that we may know, and from times past, so that we may say: ‘He was right’? No one
announced it, no one
foretold it, no one heard your
words.
For I
beheld, and there was no man; even among them, and there was no counsellor, that, when I asked of them, could answer a
word.
When I look, there is no one; there is no
counselor among them; when I ask them, they have nothing to say.
Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the
womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
This is the
word of the LORD, your Maker, who formed you from the
womb and who will help you: “Do not be afraid, O Jacob My servant,
Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:
who confirms the message of His servant and fulfills the counsel of His messengers, who says of Jerusalem, ‘She will be inhabited,’ and of the cities of Judah, ‘They will be rebuilt, and I will restore their ruins,’
I have
sworn by myself, the
word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every
knee shall bow, every tongue shall
swear.
By Myself I have
sworn; truth has gone out from My mouth, a
word that will not be
revoked: Every
knee will bow before Me, every tongue will
swear allegiance.
The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a
word in season to him that is
weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.
The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of
discipleship, to
sustain the
weary with a
word. He awakens Me morning by morning; He awakens My ear to
listen as a disciple.
And I have put my
words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto
Zion, Thou art my people.
I have put My
words in your mouth, and covered you with the shadow of My hand, to establish the heavens, to found the earth, and to say to
Zion, ‘You are My people.’”
So shall my
word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall
accomplish that which I please, and it shall
prosper in the thing
whereto I sent it.
so My
word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will
accomplish what I please, and it will
prosper where I send it.
If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
If you turn your foot from breaking the Sabbath, from doing as you please on My holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight, and the LORD’s holy day honorable, if you honor it by not going your own way or seeking your own pleasure or speaking idle words,
In
transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart
words of
falsehood.
rebelling and denying the LORD, turning away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering lies from the heart.
As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.
“As for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the LORD. “My Spirit will not depart from you, and My words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth or from the mouths of your children and grandchildren, from now on and forevermore,” says the LORD.
For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a
contrite spirit, and trembleth at my
word.
Has not My hand made all these things? And so they came into being,” declares the LORD. “This is the one I will esteem: he who is humble and
contrite in spirit, who trembles at My
word.
Hear the
word of the LORD, ye that
tremble at his
word; your brethren that
hated you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, said, Let the LORD be
glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be
ashamed.
You who
tremble at His
word, hear the
word of the LORD: “Your brothers who
hate you and
exclude you because of My name have said, ‘Let the LORD be
glorified that we may see your joy!’ But they will be put to shame.”
The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:
These are the words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests in Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.
To whom the
word of the LORD came in the days of
Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the
thirteenth year of his reign.
The
word of the LORD came to Jeremiah in the
thirteenth year of the reign of
Josiah son of Amon king of Judah,
Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
The word of the LORD came to me, saying:
Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
Then the LORD reached out His hand, touched my mouth, and said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.
Moreover the
word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an
almond tree.
And the
word of the LORD came to me, asking, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” “I see a branch of an
almond tree,” I replied.
Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will
hasten my
word to perform it.
“You have observed correctly,” said the LORD, “for I am watching over My
word to
accomplish it.”
And the
word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a
seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.
Again the
word of the LORD came to me, asking, “What do you see?” “I see a boiling pot,” I replied, “and it is
tilting toward us from the north.”
Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:
Hear the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all you families of the house of Israel.
O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?
You people of this generation, consider the
word of the LORD: “Have I been a wilderness to Israel or a land of dense darkness? Why do My people say, ‘We are free to
roam; we will come to You no more’?
Go and
proclaim these
words toward the north, and say, Return, thou
backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am
merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever.
Go,
proclaim this message toward the north: ‘Return, O faithless Israel,’ declares the LORD. ‘I will no longer look on you with anger, for I am
merciful,’ declares the LORD. ‘I will not be
angry forever.
And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.
The prophets are but wind, for the
word is not in them. So let their own predictions
befall them.”
Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this
word, behold, I will make my
words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall
devour them.
Therefore this is what the LORD God of Hosts says: “Because you have spoken this word, I will make My words a fire in your mouth and this people the wood it consumes.
To whom shall I speak, and give
warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is
uncircumcised, and they cannot
hearken: behold, the
word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
To whom can I give this
warning? Who will
listen to me? Look, their ears are closed, so they cannot hear. See, the
word of the LORD has become offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it.
Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not
hearkened unto my
words, nor to my law, but rejected it.
Hear, O earth! I am bringing
disaster on this people, the fruit of their own schemes, because they have paid no attention to My
word and have rejected My instruction.
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
Stand in the gate of the LORD’S house, and
proclaim there this
word, and say, Hear the
word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.
“Stand in the gate of the house of the LORD and
proclaim this message: Hear the
word of the LORD, all you people of Judah who enter through these gates to worship the LORD.
Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.
Do not trust in
deceptive words,
chanting: ‘This is the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD.’
Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.
Therefore thou shalt speak all these
words unto them; but they will not
hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.
When you tell them all these things, they will not
listen to you. When you call to them, they will not answer.
The wise men are
ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the
word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?
The wise will be put to shame; they will be dismayed and
trapped. Since they have rejected the
word of the LORD, what wisdom do they really have?
Yet hear the
word of the LORD, O ye women, and let your ear receive the
word of his mouth, and teach your daughters
wailing, and every one her neighbour
lamentation.
Now, O women, hear the
word of the LORD. Open your ears to the
word of His mouth. Teach your daughters to
wail, and one another to
lament.
Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
Hear the word that the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel.
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;
“
Listen to the
words of this covenant and tell them to the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem.
And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel;
Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the
words of this covenant,
You must tell them that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says:
Cursed is the man who does not obey the
words of this covenant,
Then the LORD said unto me,
Proclaim all these
words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the
words of this covenant, and do them.
Then the LORD said to me, “
Proclaim all these
words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying: Hear the
words of this covenant and carry them out.
Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do; but they did them not.
Yet they would not obey or
incline their ears, but each one followed the
stubbornness of his evil heart. So I brought on them all the curses of this covenant I had commanded them to follow but they did not keep.”
They are turned back to the
iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my
words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
They have returned to the sins of their forefathers who refused to obey My words. They have followed other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken the covenant I made with their fathers.
For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt
treacherously with thee;
yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair
words unto thee.
Even your brothers— your own father’s household— even they have
betrayed you; even they have
cried aloud against you. Do not trust them, though they speak well of you.
So I got a
girdle according to the
word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.
So I bought a loincloth as the LORD had
instructed me, and I put it around my
waist.
And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to me a second time:
Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Then the word of the LORD came to me:
This evil people, which refuse to hear my
words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this
girdle, which is good for nothing.
These evil people, who refuse to
listen to My
words, who follow the
stubbornness of their own hearts, and who go after other gods to serve and worship them, they will be like this loincloth—of no use at all.
Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this
word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every
bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every
bottle shall be filled with wine?
Therefore you are to tell them that this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Every wineskin shall be filled with wine.’ And when they reply, ‘Don’t we surely know that every wineskin should be filled with wine?’
The
word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the
dearth.
This is the
word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the
drought:
Therefore thou shalt say this
word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very
grievous blow.
You are to speak this
word to them: ‘My eyes overflow with tears; day and night they do not cease, for the virgin daughter of my people has been
shattered by a
crushing blow, a severely
grievous wound.
Thy
words were found, and I did eat them; and thy
word was unto me the joy and
rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
Your
words were found, and I
ate them. Your
words became my joy and my heart’s delight. For I bear Your name, O LORD God of Hosts.
