These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father’s house.
These are the statutes that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the relationship between a man and his wife, and between a father and a young daughter still in his home.
And he will love thee, and
bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also
bless the fruit of thy
womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy
kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he
sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
He will love you and
bless you and multiply you. He will
bless the fruit of your
womb and the produce of your land—your grain, new wine, and oil, the
young of your herds and the lambs of your flocks—in the land that He
swore to your fathers to give you.
Ye shall not eat of any thing that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an
alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not
seethe a
kid in his mother’s milk.
You are not to eat any
carcass; you may give it to the foreigner residing within your gates, and he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a holy people belonging to the LORD your God. You must not
cook a
young goat in its mother’s milk.
If a bird’s nest chance to be before thee in the way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be
young ones, or eggs, and the
dam sitting upon the
young, or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the
dam with the
young:
If you come across a bird’s nest with chicks or eggs, either in a tree or on the ground along the road, and the mother is sitting on the chicks or eggs, you must not take the mother along with the young.
But thou shalt in any wise let the
dam go, and take the
young to thee; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest
prolong thy days.
You may take the
young, but be sure to let the mother go, so that it may be well with you and that you may
prolong your days.
Then shall the father of the
damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the
tokens of the
damsel’s
virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate:
Then the
young woman’s father and mother shall bring the proof of her
virginity to the city elders at the gate
And they shall
amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the
damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.
They are also to fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the
young woman’s father, because this man has given a virgin of Israel a bad name. And she shall remain his wife; he must not
divorce her as long as he lives.
If, however, this
accusation is true, and no proof of the
young woman’s
virginity can be found,
Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the
damsel, because she
cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour’s wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.
you must take both of them out to the gate of that city and stone them to death—the
young woman because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he has
violated his
neighbor’s wife. So you must
purge the evil from among you.
But unto the
damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the
damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:
Do nothing to the
young woman, because she has committed no sin worthy of death. This case is just like one in which a man attacks his
neighbor and murders him.
Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the
damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
then the man who lay with her must pay the
young woman’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she must become his wife because he has
violated her. He must not
divorce her as long as he lives.
A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor
shew favour to the
young:
a
ruthless nation with no respect for the old and no
pity for the
young.
And toward her
young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children which she shall bear: for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly in the siege and straitness,
wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates.
the
afterbirth that comes from between her legs and the children she bears, because she will secretly eat them for lack of anything else in the siege and distress that your enemy will
inflict on you within your gates.
As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:
As an eagle stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, He spread His wings to catch them and carried them on His pinions.
The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the
young man and the virgin, the
suckling also with the man of gray hairs.
Outside, the sword will take their children, and inside, terror will strike the young man and the young woman, the infant and the gray-haired man.
Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;
Your wives, your
young children, and your
livestock may remain in the land that Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But all your mighty men of
valor must be armed for battle to cross over
ahead of your brothers and help them,
And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman,
young and old, and ox, and sheep, and
ass, with the edge of the sword.
At the edge of the sword they devoted to destruction everything in the city—man and woman,
young and old, oxen, sheep, and
donkeys.
And the
young men that were
spies went in, and brought
Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.
So the
young spies went in and brought out
Rahab, her father and mother and brothers, and all who belonged to her. They brought out her whole family and settled them outside the camp of Israel.
And Joshua
adjured them at that time, saying,
Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city
Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his
firstborn, and in his
youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.
At that time Joshua
invoked this solemn oath: “
Cursed before the LORD is the man who rises up and rebuilds this city,
Jericho; at the cost of his
firstborn he will lay its foundations; at the cost of his
youngest he will set up its gates.”
And Othniel the son of Kenaz,
Caleb’s
younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
So Othniel son of
Caleb’s
younger brother Kenaz captured the city, and
Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage.
And when the children of Israel
cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz,
Caleb’s
younger brother.
But when the Israelites
cried out to the LORD, He raised up Othniel son of
Caleb’s
younger brother Kenaz as a deliverer to save them.
And he said unto him, Oh my Lord,
wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in
Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.
“Please, my Lord,”
Gideon replied, “how can I save Israel? Indeed, my clan is the weakest in
Manasseh, and I am the
youngest in my father’s house.”
And
Gideon went in, and made ready a
kid, and
unleavened cakes of an
ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a
basket, and he put the
broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.
So
Gideon went in and prepared a
young goat and
unleavened bread and an
ephah of flour. He placed the meat in a
basket and the
broth in a pot and brought them out to present to Him under the oak.
And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father’s
young bullock, even the second
bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of
Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the
grove that is by it:
On that very night the LORD said to
Gideon, “Take your father’s
young bull and a second bull seven years old,
tear down your father’s altar to
Baal, and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.
And caught a
young man of the men of Succoth, and enquired of him: and he described unto him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, even
threescore and seventeen men.
There he captured a
young man of Succoth and
interrogated him. The
young man wrote down for him the names of the seventy-seven leaders and elders of Succoth.
And he said unto Jether his
firstborn, Up, and
slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.
So he said to Jether, his
firstborn, “Get up and kill them.” But the
young man did not draw his sword; he was fearful because he was still a youth.
And he went unto his father’s house at Ophrah, and
slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being
threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the
youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he
hid himself.
He went to his father’s house in Ophrah, and on one stone murdered his seventy brothers, the sons of Jerubbaal. But Jotham, the
youngest son of Jerubbaal, survived, because he
hid himself.
Then he called
hastily unto the
young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and
slay me, that men say not of me, A woman
slew him. And his
young man thrust him through, and he died.
He quickly called his
armor-bearer, saying, “Draw your sword and kill me, lest they say of me, ‘A woman killed him.’” So
Abimelech’s
armor-bearer ran his sword through him, and he died.
That the daughters of Israel went yearly to
lament the daughter of
Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
that each year the
young women of Israel go out for four days to
lament the daughter of
Jephthah the Gileadite.
And
Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us
detain thee, until we shall have made ready a
kid for thee.
“Please stay here,”
Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, “and we will prepare a
young goat for you.”
So
Manoah took a
kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wonderously; and
Manoah and his wife looked on.
Then
Manoah took a
young goat and a grain offering and offered them on a rock to the LORD. And as
Manoah and his wife looked on, the LORD did a
marvelous thing.
And
Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.
Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the
uncircumcised Philistines? And
Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
But his father and mother replied, “Can’t you find a
young woman among your relatives or among any of our people? Must you go to the
uncircumcised Philistines to get a wife?” But
Samson told his father, “Get her for me, for she is pleasing to my eyes.”
Then went
Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a
young lion
roared against him.
Then
Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother and came to the vineyards of Timnah. Suddenly a
young lion came
roaring at him,
And the Spirit of the LORD came
mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a
kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.
and the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon him, and he
tore the lion apart with his bare hands as one would
tear a
young goat. But he did not tell his father or mother what he had done.
So his father went down unto the woman: and
Samson made there a feast; for so used the
young men to do.
Then his father went to visit the woman, and
Samson prepared a feast there, as was customary for the
bridegroom.
But it came to pass within a while after, in the time of wheat harvest, that
Samson visited his wife with a
kid; and he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber. But her father would not suffer him to go in.
Later on, at the time of the wheat harvest,
Samson took a
young goat and went to visit his wife. “I want to go to my wife in her room,” he said. But her father would not let him enter.
And her father said, I
verily thought that thou hadst utterly
hated her; therefore I gave her to thy companion: is not her
younger sister fairer than she? take her, I pray thee, instead of her.
“I was sure that you thoroughly
hated her,” said her father, “so I gave her to one of the men who accompanied you. Is not her
younger sister more beautiful than she? Please take her instead.”
And there was a
young man out of Bethlehemjudah of the family of Judah, who was a
Levite, and he
sojourned there.
And there was a
young Levite from
Bethlehem in Judah who had been residing within the clan of Judah.
And the
Levite was content to dwell with the man; and the
young man was unto him as one of his sons.
and agreed to stay with him, and the
young man became like a son to
Micah.
And
Micah consecrated the
Levite; and the
young man became his priest, and was in the house of
Micah.
Micah ordained the
Levite, and the
young man became his priest and lived in his house.
When they were by the house of
Micah, they knew the voice of the
young man the
Levite: and they turned in thither, and said unto him, Who brought thee
hither? and what makest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?
And while they were near
Micah’s house, they recognized the voice of the
young Levite; so they went over and asked him, “Who brought you here? What are you doing in this place? Why are you here?”
So they turned aside there and went to the home of the
young Levite, the house of
Micah, and
greeted him.
Yet there is both straw and
provender for our
asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy
handmaid, and for the
young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing.
even though there is both straw and feed for our
donkeys, and bread and wine for me and the
maidservant and
young man with me. There is nothing that we, your servants, lack.”
And they found among the inhabitants of
Jabesh-
gilead four hundred
young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to
Shiloh, which is in the land of
Canaan.
So they found among the inhabitants of
Jabesh-
gilead four hundred
young women who had not had relations with a man, and they brought them to the camp at
Shiloh in the land of
Canaan.
Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose
damsel is this?
And Boaz asked the
foreman of his harvesters, “Whose
young woman is this?”
Let thine eyes be on the field that they do
reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the
young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art
athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the
young men have drawn.
Let your eyes be on the field they are harvesting, and follow along after these girls. Indeed, I have ordered the
young men not to touch you. And when you are
thirsty, go and drink from the jars the
young men have filled.”
And when she was risen up to
glean, Boaz commanded his
young men, saying, Let her
glean even among the
sheaves, and reproach her not:
When
Ruth got up to
glean, Boaz ordered his
young men, “Even if she gathers among the
sheaves, do not
insult her.
And
Ruth the
Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my
young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
Then
Ruth the
Moabitess said, “He also told me, ‘Stay with my
young men until they have finished gathering all my harvest.’”
And
Naomi said unto
Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.
And
Naomi said to her daughter-in-law
Ruth, “My daughter, it is good for you to work with his
young women, so that nothing will happen to you in another field.”
And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
Then Boaz said, “May the LORD
bless you, my daughter. You have shown more kindness now than before, because you have not run after the
younger men, whether rich or poor.
And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.
And may your house become like the house of
Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring the LORD will give you by this
young woman.”
And when she had
weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one
ephah of flour, and a
bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in
Shiloh: and the child was
young.
Once she had
weaned him,
Hannah took the boy with her, along with a three-year-old bull, an
ephah of flour, and a skin of wine. Though the boy was still
young, she brought him to the house of the LORD at
Shiloh.
Wherefore the sin of the
young men was very great before the LORD: for men
abhorred the offering of the LORD.
Thus the sin of these young men was severe in the sight of the LORD, for they were treating the LORD’s offering with contempt.
And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he
smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had
emerods in their secret parts.
But after they had moved the ark to
Gath, the LORD’s hand was also against that city, throwing it into great confusion and
afflicting the men of the city, both
young and old, with an outbreak of tumors.
And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest
young men, and your
asses, and put them to his work.
And he will take your menservants and maidservants and your best cattle and
donkeys and put them to his own use.
And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.
And he had a son named Saul, choice and handsome, without equal among the Israelites—a head taller than any of the people.
And as they went up the hill to the city, they found
young maidens going out to draw water, and said unto them, Is the
seer here?
And as they were
climbing the hill to the city, they met some
young women coming out to draw water and asked, “Is the
seer here?”
Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of
Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to
Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three
loaves of bread, and another carrying a
bottle of wine:
Then you will go on from there until you come to the Oak of
Tabor. Three men going up to God at
Bethel will meet you there, one carrying three
young goats, another carrying three
loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine.
Now it came to pass upon a day, that
Jonathan the son of Saul said unto the
young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over to the Philistines’ garrison, that is on the other side. But he told not his father.
One day
Jonathan son of Saul said to the
young man bearing his
armor, “Come, let us cross over to the
Philistine outpost on the other side.” But
Jonathan did not tell his father.
And
Jonathan said to the
young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these
uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.
Jonathan said to the
young man bearing his
armor, “Come, let us cross over to the outpost of these
uncircumcised men. Perhaps the LORD will work on our behalf. Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few.”
Now the sons of Saul were
Jonathan, and Ishui, and Melchi-shua: and the names of his two daughters were these; the name of the
firstborn Merab, and the name of the
younger Michal:
Now the sons of Saul were
Jonathan, Ishvi, and Malchishua. His two daughters were named Merab (his
firstborn) and Michal (his
younger daughter).
And Samuel said unto
Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the
youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto
Jesse, Send and
fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come
hither.
And Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the
youngest,”
Jesse replied, “but he is tending the sheep.” “Send for him,” Samuel replied. “For we will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”
And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was
ruddy, and
withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise,
anoint him: for this is he.
So
Jesse sent for his
youngest son and brought him in. He was
ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, “Rise and
anoint him, for he is the one.”
And
Jesse took an
ass laden with bread, and a
bottle of wine, and a
kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.
And
Jesse took a
donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine, and one
young goat, and sent them to Saul with his son David.
And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.
And David was the youngest. The three oldest had followed Saul,
And when Saul saw David go forth against the
Philistine, he said unto
Abner, the captain of the host,
Abner, whose son is this youth? And
Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.
As Saul had watched David going out to
confront the
Philistine, he said to
Abner the commander of the army, “
Abner, whose son is this
young man?” “As surely as you live, O king,”
Abner replied, “I do not know.”
“Find out whose son this young man is!” said the king.
And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou
young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant
Jesse the
Bethlehemite.
“Whose son are you,
young man?” asked Saul. “I am the son of your servant
Jesse of
Bethlehem,” David replied.
But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way: for the LORD hath sent thee away.
But if I say to the young man, ‘Look, the arrows are beyond you,’ then you must go, for the LORD has sent you away.
And as soon as the
lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they
kissed one another, and
wept one with another, until David exceeded.
When the
young man had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone, fell facedown, and bowed three times. Then he and
Jonathan kissed each other and
wept together—though David
wept more.
And David said unto
Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business
whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.
“The king has given me a mission,” David replied. “He told me no one is to know about the mission or charge. And I have directed my young men to meet me at a certain place.
And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is
hallowed bread; if the
young men have kept themselves at least from women.
“There is no common bread on hand,” the priest replied, “but there is some consecrated bread—provided that the young men have kept themselves from women.”
And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the
young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common,
yea, though it were
sanctified this day in the vessel.
David answered, “Women have indeed been kept from us, as is usual when I set out. And the
equipment of the
young men is holy, as it is even on common missions, and all the more at this time.”
And David sent out ten
young men, and David said unto the
young men, Get you up to
Carmel, and go to Nabal, and
greet him in my name:
Ask thy
young men, and they will
shew thee. Wherefore let the
young men find favour in thine eyes: for we come in a good day: give, I pray thee,
whatsoever cometh to thine hand unto thy servants, and to thy son David.
Ask your young men, and they will tell you. So let my young men find favor with you, for we have come on the day of a feast. Please give whatever you can afford to your servants and to your son David.’”
And when David’s young men came, they spake to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David, and ceased.
When David’s young men arrived, they relayed all these words to Nabal on behalf of David. Then they waited.
So David’s young men turned their way, and went again, and came and told him all those sayings.
So David’s men turned around and went back, and they relayed to him all these words.
But one of the
young men told
Abigail, Nabal’s wife, saying, Behold, David sent messengers out of the wilderness to
salute our master; and he railed on them.
Meanwhile, one of Nabal’s
young men informed Nabal’s wife
Abigail, “Look, David sent messengers from the wilderness to
greet our master, but he
scolded them.
And she said unto her servants, Go on before me; behold, I come after you. But she told not her husband Nabal.
and said to her
young men, “Go
ahead of me. I will be right behind you.” But she did not tell her husband Nabal.
Let not my lord, I pray thee, regard this man of
Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I thine
handmaid saw not the
young men of my lord, whom thou
didst send.
My lord should pay no attention to this
scoundrel Nabal, for he lives up to his name: His name means
Fool, and folly accompanies him. I, your servant, did not see my lord’s
young men whom you sent.
And now this blessing which thine
handmaid hath brought unto my lord, let it even be given unto the
young men that follow my lord.
Now let this gift your servant has brought to my lord be given to the young men who follow you.
And David answered and said, Behold the king’s
spear! and let one of the
young men come over and
fetch it.
“Here is the king’s
spear,” David answered. “Let one of the
young men come over and get it.
And had taken the women
captives, that were therein: they
slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.
They had taken
captive the women and all who were there, both
young and old. They had not killed
anyone, but had carried them off as they went on their way.
And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a
young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days
agone I fell sick.
Then David asked him, “To whom do you belong, and where are you from?” “I am an Egyptian,” he replied, “the slave of an Amalekite. My master abandoned me three days ago when I fell ill.
And David
smote them from the
twilight even unto the evening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred
young men, which
rode upon camels, and fled.
And David struck them down from
twilight until the evening of the next day. Not a man escaped, except four hundred
young men who fled, riding off on camels.
And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither
spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all.
Nothing was missing,
young or old, son or daughter, or any of the
plunder the
Amalekites had taken. David brought everything back.
And David said unto the
young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and
Jonathan his son be dead?
Then David asked the
young man who had brought him the report, “How do you know that Saul and his son
Jonathan are dead?”
And the
young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount
Gilboa, behold, Saul
leaned upon his
spear; and, lo, the
chariots and
horsemen followed hard after him.
“I happened to be on Mount
Gilboa,” he replied, “and there was Saul,
leaning on his
spear, with the
chariots and the cavalry closing in on him.
And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite.
And David inquired of the young man who had brought him the report, “Where are you from?” “I am the son of a foreigner,” he answered. “I am an Amalekite.”
And David called one of the
young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he
smote him that he died.
Then David summoned one of the
young men and said, “Go,
execute him!” So the
young man struck him down, and he died.
And
Abner said to
Joab, Let the
young men now arise, and play before us. And
Joab said, Let them arise.
Then
Abner said to
Joab, “Let us have the
young men get up and
compete before us.” “Let them get up,”
Joab replied.
And
Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the
young men, and take thee his armour. But
Asahel would not turn aside from following of him.
And David commanded his
young men, and they
slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and
hanged them up over the
pool in
Hebron. But they took the head of
Ish-bosheth, and buried it in the
sepulchre of
Abner in
Hebron.
So David commanded his
young men, and they killed Rechab and Baanah. They cut off their hands and feet and hung their bodies by the
pool in
Hebron, but they took the head of
Ish-bosheth and buried it in
Abner’s tomb in
Hebron.
And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.
And Mephibosheth had a
young son named
Mica, and all who dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants of Mephibosheth.
Now
Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon’s heart is
merry with wine, and when I say unto you,
Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be
courageous and be
valiant.
Now
Absalom had ordered his
young men, “Watch Amnon until his heart is
merry with wine, and when I order you to strike Amnon down, you are to kill him. Do not be afraid. Have I not commanded you? Be
courageous and
valiant!”
And the servants of
Absalom did unto Amnon as
Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose, and every man
gat him up upon his
mule, and fled.
So
Absalom’s
young men did to Amnon just as
Absalom had ordered. Then all the other sons of the king got up, and each one fled on his
mule.
And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the
young men the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of
Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
But Jonadab, the son of David’s brother Shimeah, spoke up: “My lord must not think they have killed all the sons of the king, for only Amnon is dead. In fact,
Absalom has
planned this since the day Amnon
violated his sister Tamar.
But
Absalom fled. And the
young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him.
Meanwhile,
Absalom had fled. When the
young man standing watch looked up, he saw many people coming down the road west of him, along the side of the hill. And the
watchman went and reported to the king, “I see men coming from the direction of Horonaim, along the side of the hill.”
And the king said unto
Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing: go therefore, bring the
young man
Absalom again.
Then the king said to
Joab, “I
hereby grant this request. Go, bring back the
young man
Absalom.”
