doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

almond tree blossoms, the
grasshopper loses its spring, and the caper
berry shrivels— for then man goes to his eternal home and mourners walk the streets.
I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

The
watchmen that go
about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

about the city found me, they
smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my
veil from me.

vineyard: I will take away the
hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be

about to do to My
vineyard: I will take away its
hedge, and it will be consumed; I will
tear down its wall, and it will be

axe boast itself against him that heweth
therewith? or shall the saw
magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should
shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.
Does an
axe raise itself
above the one who swings it? Does a saw
boast over him who saws with it? It would be like a rod waving the one who lifts it, or a staff lifting him who is not wood!

ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne
above the stars of God. I will sit on the mount of assembly, in the far reaches of the north.
I will
ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
I will
ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.”

dumped into a rocky pit like a

melody, sing many a song, so you will be remembered.”

vineyard of red wine.

fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!
Woe to the
majestic crown of Ephraim’s drunkards, to the
fading flower of his glorious
splendor, set on the summit
above the fertile valley, the pride of those overcome by wine.
And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a
fading flower, and as the
hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it
seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.
The
fading flower of his beautiful
splendor, set on the summit
above the fertile valley, will be like a ripe fig before the summer harvest:
Whoever sees it will take it in his hand and
swallow it.

nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an
habitation of
dragons, and a court for owls.

haunt for jackals, an
abode for ostriches.
