And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.
And surely I will require the life of any man or beast by whose hand your
lifeblood is shed. I will demand an
accounting from
anyone who takes the life of his fellow man:

Noah,
Shem,
Ham, and
Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.

Noah’s sons
Shem,

Japheth, who also had sons after the flood.
These are the generations of
Shem:
Shem was an hundred years old, and

entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he

And he spake unto him yet again, and said,

account of the twenty, I will not destroy it.”
And he said, Oh let not the Lord be
angry, and I will speak yet but this once:

Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon.
But when the men of that place asked about his wife, he said, “She is my sister.” For he was afraid to say, “She is my wife,” since he thought to himself, “The men of this place will kill me on
account of
Rebekah, because she is so beautiful.”
And
Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a
surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.

account of her.”

overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.
From the time that he put Joseph in charge of his household and all he owned, the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s household on account of him. The LORD’s blessing was on everything he owned, both in his house and in his field.
And
Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required.

listen. Now we must

And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they
hearkened not unto Moses for
anguish of spirit, and for cruel
bondage.
Moses relayed this message to the Israelites, but on
account of their broken spirit and cruel
bondage, they did not
listen to him.
Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.
Now go, lead the people to the place I described. Behold, My angel shall go before you. But on the day I settle
accounts, I will
punish them for their sin.”

kindled.
Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons
Eleazar and
Ithamar, “Do not let your hair become
disheveled and do not
tear your garments, or else you will die, and the LORD will be
angry with the whole congregation. But your brothers, the whole house of Israel, may
mourn on
account of the fire that the LORD has
ignited.
Thou shalt not
hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise
rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
You must not
harbor hatred against your brother in your heart. Directly
rebuke your
neighbor, so that you will not
incur guilt on
account of him.
These also are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that the LORD spake with Moses in mount
Sinai.
This is the

And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD’S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
But Moses replied, “Are you
jealous on my
account? I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would place His Spirit on them!”
And they told him, and said, We came unto the land
whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

account of
Korah.
Also the LORD was
angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither.
The LORD was also
angry with me on your
account, and He said, “Not even you shall enter the land.
Which also were
accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them
Emims.
Like the Anakites, they were also regarded as
Rephaim, though the Moabites called them Emites.
(That also was
accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the
Ammonites call them Zamzummims;
(That too was regarded as the land of the
Rephaim, who used to live there, though the
Ammonites called them Zamzummites.
But the LORD was
wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.
But the LORD was
angry with me on
account of you, and He would not
listen to me. “That is enough,” the LORD said to me. “Do not speak to Me again about this matter.
Furthermore the LORD was
angry with me for your sakes, and
sware that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance:
The LORD, however, was
angry with me on
account of you, and He
swore that I would not cross the Jordan to enter the good land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.
And it shall come to pass, that
whosoever will not
hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
And I will hold
accountable anyone who does not
listen to My words that the prophet speaks in My name.
That we have built us an altar to turn from following the LORD, or if to offer
thereon burnt offering or meat offering, or if to offer peace offerings
thereon, let the LORD himself require it;
If we have built for ourselves an altar to turn away from Him and to offer burnt offerings and grain offerings on it, or to sacrifice
fellowship offerings on it, may the LORD Himself hold us
accountable.
And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this
Philistine.
And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail on
account of this
Philistine. Your servant will go and fight him!”

accountable.”

And when
Abner was returned to
Hebron,
Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and
smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of
Asahel his brother.
Then
Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;
Joab sent to David a full
account of the battle
And this is the reason of the
levy which king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the LORD, and his own house, and
Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and
Megiddo, and
Gezer.
This is the
account of the forced labor that King Solomon imposed to build the house of the LORD, his own palace, the supporting terraces, and the wall of Jerusalem, as well as Hazor,
Megiddo, and
Gezer.
And all king Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of
Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver: it was nothing
accounted of in the days of Solomon.
All King Solomon’s drinking cups were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of
Lebanon were pure gold. There was no silver, because it was
accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon.
And this was the cause that he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built
Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father.
and this is the
account of his rebellion against the king. Solomon had built the supporting terraces and repaired the
gap in the wall of the city of his father David.
And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of
Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israel to sin.
So He will give Israel over on
account of the sins
Jeroboam has committed and has caused Israel to commit.”
And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man’s heart to bring into the house of the LORD,
Then
Joash said to the priests, “Collect all the money brought as sacred gifts into the house of the LORD—the census money, the money from vows, and the money brought
voluntarily into the house of the LORD.
Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.
No
accounting was required from the men who received the money to pay the workmen, because they acted with
integrity.
And the
covert for the sabbath that they had built in the house, and the king’s entry without, turned he from the house of the LORD for the king of Assyria.
And on
account of the king of Assyria, he removed the Sabbath
canopy they had built in the temple and closed the royal entryway outside the house of the LORD.
Howbeit there was no
reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.
But they need not
account for the money put into their hands, since they work with
integrity.”
Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the
account of the chronicles of king David.
Joab son of Zeruiah began to count the men but did not finish. For because of this census wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not entered in the Book of the Chronicles of King David.
And all the drinking vessels of king Solomon were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of
Lebanon were of pure gold: none were of silver; it was not any thing
accounted of in the days of Solomon.
All King Solomon’s drinking cups were gold, and all the utensils of the House of the Forest of
Lebanon were pure gold. There was no silver, because it was
accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon.
Thus
Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but
slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.
Thus King
Joash failed to remember the kindness that
Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had extended to him. Instead,
Joash killed Jehoiada’s son. As he lay dying,
Zechariah said, “May the LORD see this and call you to
account.”
Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And
Amaziah his son reigned in his
stead.
The
accounts of the sons of
Joash, as well as the many pronouncements about him and about the restoration of the house of God, are indeed written in the Treatise of the Book of the Kings. And his son
Amaziah reigned in his place.
Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their
account by the hand of Jeiel the
scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains.
Uzziah had an army ready for battle that went out to war by assigned divisions, as recorded by Jeiel the
scribe and Maaseiah the officer under the direction of Hananiah, one of the royal officers.
And all the acts of his power and of his might, and the declaration of the greatness of
Mordecai,
whereunto the king advanced him, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia?
And all of
Mordecai’s powerful and magnificent accomplishments, together with the full
account of the greatness to which the king had raised him, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Media and Persia?
He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be
forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?
You who
tear yourself in anger— should the earth be
forsaken on your
account, or the rocks be moved from their place?
What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?
what will I do when God rises to judge? How will I answer when called to account?
I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.
I would give account of all my steps; I would approach Him like a prince.)—
Why
dost thou
strive against him? for he giveth not
account of any of his matters.
Why do you
complain to Him that He answers nothing a man asks?
Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the
avenger.
From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praise on
account of Your
adversaries, to silence the enemy and
avenger.
Wherefore
doth the wicked
contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou
wilt not require it.
Why has the wicked man
renounced God? He says to himself, “You will never call me to
account.”
Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.
Break the arm of the wicked and
evildoer; call him to
account for his wickedness until none is left to be found.
A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.
Posterity will serve Him; they will declare the Lord to a new generation.
Rise up; be our help!
Redeem us on
account of Your loving devotion.
Let mount
Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be
glad, because of thy judgments.
Mount
Zion is
glad, the daughters of Judah
rejoice, on
account of Your judgments.
Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy
bottle: are they not in thy book?
You have taken
account of my wanderings. Put my tears in Your
bottle— are they not in Your book?
LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him!
O LORD, what is man, that You regard him, the son of man that You think of him?
That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
What exists has already been, and what will be has already been, for God will call to account what has passed.
Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, counting one by one, to find out the account:
“Behold,” says the Teacher, “I have discovered this by adding one thing to another to find an explanation.
Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?
Put no more trust in man, who has only the breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?
Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not,
til the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin.
Look at the land of the Chaldeans— a people now of no
account. The Assyrians destined it for the desert creatures; they set up their siege towers and
stripped its palaces. They brought it to ruin.
And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not
valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.
“They bend their tongues like bows; lies prevail over truth in the land. For they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not take Me into account,” declares the LORD.
For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to
provoke me to anger in offering incense unto
Baal.
The LORD of Hosts, who planted you, has decreed
disaster against you on
account of the evil that the house of Israel and the house of Judah have brought upon themselves,
provoking Me to anger by burning incense to
Baal.”
Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to
wander, they have not
refrained their feet, therefore the LORD
doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.
This is what the LORD says about this people: “Truly they love to
wander; they have not restrained their feet. So the LORD does not accept them; He will now remember their guilt and call their sins to
account.”
As Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the earth.
“Babylon must fall on account of the slain of Israel, just as the slain of all the earth have fallen because of Babylon.
And thy
renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my
comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.
Your fame spread among the nations on
account of your beauty, for it was perfect in the
splendor I bestowed on you, declares the Lord GOD.
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up
thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;
Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Since it became great in height and set its top among the clouds, and it grew proud on account of its height,
But if the
watchman see the sword come, and blow not the
trumpet, and the people be not
warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the
watchman’s hand.
But if the
watchman sees the sword coming and fails to blow the horn to
warn the people, and the sword comes and takes away a life, then that one will be taken away in his iniquity, but I will hold the
watchman accountable for his blood.’
When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou
dost not speak to
warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
If I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ but you do not speak out to
dissuade him from his way, then that wicked man will die in his iniquity, yet I will hold you
accountable for his blood.
And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen.
I will also make the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field
plentiful, so that you will no longer bear reproach among the nations on
account of famine.
And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
and over them three administrators, including Daniel, to whom these satraps were accountable so that the king would not suffer loss.
In the first year of
Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.
In the first year of the reign of
Belshazzar over Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he lay on his bed. He wrote down the dream, and this is the summary of his
account.
Wherefore they
cried unto the LORD, and said, We
beseech thee, O LORD, we
beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
So they
cried out to the LORD: “Please, O LORD, do not let us perish on
account of this man’s life! Do not charge us with innocent blood! For You, O LORD, have done as You pleased.”
Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from
dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
Therefore, on
account of you the heavens have
withheld their
dew and the earth has
withheld its crops.
And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was
befallen to the possessed of the devils.
Those tending the pigs ran off into the town and reported all this, including the
account of the
demon-possessed men.
And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
On My account, you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.
Blessed is the one who does not fall away on account of Me.”
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
But I tell you that men will give an account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife.
Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,
Therefore is the kingdom of heaven
likened unto a certain king, which would take
account of his servants.
Because of this, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.
After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
After a long time the master of those servants returned to settle accounts with them.
Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be
offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will
smite the
shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
Then Jesus said to them, “This very night you will all fall away on
account of Me. For it is written: ‘I will strike the
Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be
offended because of thee, yet will I never be
offended.
Peter said to Him, “Even if all fall away on account of You, I never will.”
So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
So the guards took the money and did as they were
instructed. And this
account has been circulated among the Jews to this very day.
For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her.
For Herod himself had ordered that John be arrested and bound and imprisoned, on account of his brother Philip’s wife Herodias, whom Herod had married.
But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are
accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise
lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their superiors exercise authority over them.
But take
heed to
yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
So be on your guard. You will be delivered over to the councils and beaten in the synagogues. On My account you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them.
Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
Many have undertaken to
compose an
account of the things that have been fulfilled among us,
