And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
Speak unto Aaron, and unto his sons, and unto all the children of Israel, and say unto them; This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, saying,
“Speak to Aaron, his sons, and all the Israelites and tell them this is what the LORD has commanded:
And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer an offering unto the LORD before the tabernacle of the LORD; blood shall be imputed unto that man; he hath shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people:
instead of bringing it to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting to present it as an offering to the LORD before His tabernacle—that man shall
incur bloodguilt. He has shed blood
and must be cut off from among his people.
To the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they offer in the open field, even that they may bring them unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest, and offer them for peace offerings unto the LORD.
For this reason the Israelites will bring to the LORD the sacrifices they have been offering in the open fields. They are to bring them to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and offer them as sacrifices of peace to the LORD.
And the priest shall
sprinkle the blood upon the altar of the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation,
and burn the fat for a sweet savour unto the LORD.
The priest will then
sprinkle the blood on the altar of the LORD at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting
and burn the fat as a pleasing
aroma to the LORD.
And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a
whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations.
They must no longer offer their sacrifices to the goat demons to which they have
prostituted themselves. This will be a permanent statute for them for the generations to come.’
And thou shalt say unto them,
Whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers which
sojourn among you, that offereth a burnt offering of sacrifice,
Tell them that if
anyone from the house of Israel or any foreigner living among them offers a burnt offering or a sacrifice
And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer it unto the LORD; even that man shall be cut off from among his people.
but does not bring it to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting to sacrifice it to the LORD, that man must be cut off from his people.
And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that
sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood,
and will cut him off from among his people.
If
anyone from the house of Israel or a foreigner living among them eats any blood, I will set My face against that person
and cut him off from among his people.
For the life of the flesh is in the blood:
and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an
atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an
atonement for the soul.
For the life of the flesh is in the blood,
and I have given it to you to make
atonement for your souls upon the altar; for it is the blood that makes
atonement for the soul.
And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that
sojourn among you, which hunteth
and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof,
and cover it with dust.
And if any
Israelite or foreigner living among them hunts down a wild animal or bird that may be eaten, he must
drain its blood
and cover it with
dirt.
And every soul that eateth that which died of itself, or that which was
torn with beasts, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes,
and bathe himself in water,
and be unclean until the even: then shall he be clean.
And any person, whether native or foreigner, who eats anything found dead or
mauled by wild beasts must wash his clothes
and bathe with water,
and he will be unclean until evening; then he will be clean.
But if he wash them not, nor
bathe his flesh; then he shall bear his iniquity.
But if he does not wash his clothes
and bathe himself, then he shall bear his iniquity.”
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the LORD your God.
“Speak to the Israelites and tell them: I am the LORD your God.
After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do:
and after the doings of the land of
Canaan,
whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.
You must not follow the practices of the land of Egypt, where you used to live,
and you must not follow the practices of the land of
Canaan, into which I am bringing you. You must not walk in their customs.
Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God.
You are to practice My judgments and keep My statutes by walking in them. I am the LORD your God.
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.
Keep My statutes and My judgments, for the man who does these things will live by them. I am the LORD.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman
and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near
kinswomen: it is wickedness.
You must not have sexual relations with both a woman
and her daughter. You are not to marry her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter
and have sexual relations with her. They are close relatives; it is
depraved.
Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to
vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.
You must not take your wife’s sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is still alive.
And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to
Molech, neither shalt thou
profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.
You must not give any of your children to be sacrificed to
Molech, for you must not
profane the name of your God. I am the LORD.
And the land is
defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it,
and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.
Even the land has become
defiled, so I am
punishing it for its sin,
and the land will
vomit out its inhabitants.
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
But you are to keep My statutes and ordinances, and you must not commit any of these abominations—neither your native-born nor the foreigner who lives among you.
(For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you,
and the land is
defiled;)
For the men who were in the land before you committed all these abominations,
and the land has become
defiled.
Therefore shall ye keep mine
ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these
abominable customs, which were committed before you,
and that ye
defile not
yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.
You must keep My charge not to practice any of the
abominable customs that were practiced before you, so that you do not
defile yourselves by them. I am the LORD your God.”
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.
“Speak to the whole congregation of Israel and tell them: Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.
Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God.
Each of you must respect his mother and father, and you must keep My Sabbaths. I am the LORD your God.
And if ye offer a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD, ye shall offer it at your own will.
When you sacrifice a peace offering to the LORD, you shall offer it for your acceptance.
It shall be eaten the same day ye offer it,
and on the
morrow:
and if ought remain until the third day, it shall be burnt in the fire.
It shall be eaten on the day you sacrifice it, or on the next day; but what remains on the third day must be burned up.
And if it be eaten at all on the third day, it is
abominable; it shall not be accepted.
If any of it is eaten on the third day, it is
tainted and will not be accepted.
Therefore every one that eateth it shall bear his iniquity, because he hath
profaned the
hallowed thing of the LORD:
and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
Whoever eats it will bear his iniquity, for he has
profaned what is holy to the LORD. That person must be cut off from his people.
And when ye
reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly
reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest.
When you
reap the harvest of your land, you are not to
reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest.
And thou shalt not
glean thy
vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every
grape of thy
vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor
and stranger: I am the LORD your God.
You must not strip your
vineyard bare or gather its fallen grapes. Leave them for the poor
and the foreigner. I am the LORD your God.
And ye shall not
swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou
profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.
You must not
swear falsely by My name
and so
profane the name of your God. I am the LORD.
Thou shalt not go up
and down as a
talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.
You must not go about spreading
slander among your people. You must not
endanger the life of your
neighbor. I am the LORD.
Thou shalt not
hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise
rebuke thy neighbour,
and not suffer sin upon him.
You must not
harbor hatred against your brother in your heart. Directly
rebuke your
neighbor, so that you will not
incur guilt on account of him.
Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle
gender with a
diverse kind: thou shalt not
sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen
and woollen come upon thee.
You are to keep My statutes. You shall not
crossbreed two different kinds of
livestock; you shall not
sow your fields with two kinds of seed;
and you shall not wear clothing made of two kinds of material.
And whosoever lieth
carnally with a woman, that is a
bondmaid,
betrothed to an husband,
and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she shall be
scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free.
If a man lies
carnally with a slave
girl promised to another man but who has not been redeemed or given her freedom, there must be due punishment. But they are not to be put to death, because she had not been freed.
And he shall bring his
trespass offering unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, even a ram for a
trespass offering.
The man, however, must bring a ram to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting as his guilt offering to the LORD.
And the priest shall make an
atonement for him with the ram of the
trespass offering before the LORD for his sin which he hath done:
and the sin which he hath done shall be
forgiven him.
The priest shall make
atonement on his behalf before the LORD with the ram of the guilt offering for the sin he has committed,
and he will be
forgiven the sin he has committed.
And when ye shall come into the land,
and shall have planted all manner of trees for food, then ye shall count the fruit thereof as
uncircumcised: three years shall it be as
uncircumcised unto you: it shall not be eaten of.
When you enter the land and plant any kind of tree for food, you shall regard the fruit as forbidden. For three years it will be forbidden to you and must not be eaten.
And in the fifth year shall ye eat of the fruit thereof, that it may yield unto you the increase thereof: I am the LORD your God.
But in the fifth year you may eat its fruit; thus your harvest will be increased. I am the LORD your God.
Do not
prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a
whore; lest the land fall to
whoredom,
and the land become full of wickedness.
Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.
You must keep My Sabbaths and have reverence for My sanctuary. I am the LORD.
Thou shalt rise up before the
hoary head,
and honour the face of the old man,
and fear thy God: I am the LORD.
You are to rise in the presence of the elderly, honor the aged, and fear your God. I am the LORD.
And if a stranger
sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not
vex him.
When a foreigner resides with you in your land, you must not
oppress him.
But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you,
and thou shalt love him as
thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
You must treat the foreigner living among you as native-born
and love him as
yourself, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.
Just balances, just weights, a just
ephah,
and a just
hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.
You shall maintain
honest scales
and weights, an
honest ephah,
and an
honest hin. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.
Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am the LORD.
You must keep all My statutes and all My ordinances and follow them. I am the LORD.”
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
And I will set my face against that man,
and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto
Molech, to
defile my sanctuary,
and to
profane my holy name.
And I will set My face against that man
and cut him off from his people, because by giving his offspring to
Molech, he has
defiled My sanctuary
and profaned My holy name.
And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto
Molech,
and kill him not:
And if the people of the land ever hide their eyes
and fail to put to death the man who gives one of his children to
Molech,
Then I will set my face against that man,
and against his family,
and will cut him off,
and all that go a
whoring after him, to commit
whoredom with
Molech, from among their people.
then I will set My face against that man
and his family
and cut off from among their people both him
and all who follow him in
prostituting themselves with
Molech.
And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits,
and after wizards, to go a
whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul,
and will cut him off from among his people.
Whoever turns to mediums or spiritists to
prostitute himself with them, I will also set My face against that person
and cut him off from his people.
And ye shall keep my statutes,
and do them: I am the LORD which
sanctify you.
And you shall keep My statutes and practice them. I am the LORD who sanctifies you.
And the man that committeth
adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth
adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the
adulterer and the
adulteress shall surely be put to death.
And the man that lieth with his father’s wife hath uncovered his father’s nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
If a man lies with his father’s wife, he has uncovered his father’s nakedness. Both must surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.
If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both must surely be put to death. They have acted
perversely; their blood is upon them.
And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you.
If a man marries both a woman
and her mother, it is
depraved. Both he
and they must be burned in the fire, so that there will be no
depravity among you.
And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death:
and ye shall
slay the beast.
If a man lies
carnally with an animal, he must be put to death.
And you are also to kill the animal.
And if a woman approach unto any beast,
and lie down
thereto, thou shalt kill the woman,
and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
If a woman approaches any animal to
mate with it, you must kill both the woman
and the animal. They must surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
And if a man shall take his sister, his father’s daughter, or his mother’s daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a wicked thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people: he hath uncovered his sister’s nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.
If a man marries his sister, whether the daughter of his father or of his mother, and they have sexual relations, it is a disgrace. They must be cut off in the sight of their people. He has uncovered the nakedness of his sister; he shall bear his iniquity.
And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.
If a man lies with a
menstruating woman
and has sexual relations with her, he has exposed the source of her flow,
and she has uncovered the source of her blood. Both of them must be cut off from among their people.
And thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s sister, nor of thy father’s sister: for he uncovereth his near
kin: they shall bear their iniquity.
You must not have sexual relations with the sister of your mother or your father, for it is
exposing one’s own
kin; both shall bear their iniquity.
And if a man shall lie with his uncle’s wife, he hath uncovered his uncle’s nakedness: they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless.
If a man lies with his uncle’s wife, he has uncovered the nakedness of his uncle. They will bear their sin; they shall die childless.
And if a man shall take his brother’s wife, it is an unclean thing: he hath uncovered his brother’s nakedness; they shall be childless.
If a man marries his brother’s wife, it is an act of impurity. He has uncovered the nakedness of his brother; they shall be childless.
Ye shall therefore keep all my statutes,
and all my judgments,
and do them: that the land,
whither I bring you to dwell therein,
spue you not out.
You are therefore to keep all My statutes
and ordinances, so that the land where I am bringing you to live will not
vomit you out.
And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things,
and therefore I
abhorred them.
You must not follow the statutes of the nations I am driving out before you. Because they did all these things, I
abhorred them.
But I have said unto you, Ye shall
inherit their land,
and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk
and honey: I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people.
But I have told you that you will
inherit their land, since I will give it to you as an inheritance—a land flowing with milk
and honey. I am the LORD your God, who has set you apart from the peoples.
Ye shall therefore put difference between clean beasts
and unclean,
and between unclean fowls
and clean:
and ye shall not make your souls
abominable by beast, or by fowl, or by any manner of living thing that creepeth on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean.
You are therefore to distinguish between clean
and unclean animals
and birds. Do not become
contaminated by any animal or bird, or by anything that crawls on the ground; I have set these apart as unclean for you.
And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.
You are to be holy to Me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be My own.
And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron,
and say unto them, There shall none be
defiled for the dead among his people:
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Speak to Aaron’s sons, the priests,
and tell them that a priest is not to
defile himself for a dead person among his people,
But for his
kin, that is near unto him, that is, for his mother,
and for his father,
and for his son,
and for his daughter,
and for his brother,
except for his immediate family—his mother, father, son, daughter, or brother,
And for his sister a virgin, that is
nigh unto him, which hath had no husband; for her may he be
defiled.
or his unmarried sister who is near to him, since she has no husband.
But he shall not
defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to
profane himself.
He is not to
defile himself for those related to him by marriage,
and so
profane himself.
They shall be holy unto their God,
and not
profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the LORD made by fire,
and the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy.
They must be holy to their God
and not
profane the name of their God. Because they present to the LORD the offerings made by fire, the food of their God, they must be holy.
And the daughter of any priest, if she
profane herself by playing the
whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.
If a priest’s daughter defiles herself by
prostituting herself, she profanes her father; she must be burned in the fire.
And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the
anointing oil was poured,
and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor
rend his clothes;
The priest who is highest among his brothers, who has had the
anointing oil poured on his head
and has been ordained to wear the priestly garments, must not let his hair
hang loose or
tear his garments.
The woman he marries must be a virgin.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.
He may eat the most holy food of his God as well as the holy food,
And Moses told it unto Aaron, and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel.
Moses told this to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
Speak unto Aaron
and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel,
and that they
profane not my holy name in those things which they
hallow unto me: I am the LORD.
“Tell Aaron
and his sons to treat with respect the sacred offerings that the Israelites have consecrated to Me, so that they do not
profane My holy name. I am the LORD.
What man
soever of the seed of Aaron is a
leper, or hath a running issue; he shall not eat of the holy things, until he be clean.
And whoso toucheth any thing that is unclean by the dead, or a man whose seed goeth from him;
The soul which hath touched any such shall be unclean until even, and shall not eat of the holy things, unless he wash his flesh with water.
the man who touches any of these will remain unclean until evening. He must not eat from the sacred offerings unless he has bathed himself with water.
And when the sun is down, he shall be clean, and shall afterward eat of the holy things; because it is his food.
When the sun has set, he will become clean, and then he may eat from the sacred offerings, for they are his food.
They shall therefore keep mine
ordinance, lest they bear sin for it,
and die therefore, if they
profane it: I the LORD do
sanctify them.
The priests must keep My charge, lest they bear the guilt
and die because they
profane it. I am the LORD who sanctifies them.
But if the priest
buy any soul with his money, he shall eat of it,
and he that is born in his house: they shall eat of his meat.
But if a priest buys a slave with his own money, or if a slave is born in his household, that slave may eat his food.
But if the priest’s daughter be a widow, or
divorced,
and have no child,
and is returned unto her father’s house, as in her youth, she shall eat of her father’s meat: but there shall no stranger eat thereof.
But if a priest’s daughter with no children becomes widowed or
divorced and returns to her father’s house, she may share her father’s food as in her youth. But no outsider may share it.
And if a man eat of the holy thing
unwittingly, then he shall put the fifth part thereof unto it,
and shall give it unto the priest with the holy thing.
If
anyone eats a sacred offering in error, he must add a fifth to its value
and give the sacred offering to the priest.
And they shall not
profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they offer unto the LORD;
The priests must not
profane the sacred offerings that the Israelites present to the LORD
Or suffer them to bear the iniquity of
trespass, when they eat their holy things: for I the LORD do
sanctify them.
by allowing the people to eat the sacred offerings and thus to bear the punishment for guilt. For I am the LORD who sanctifies them.”
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Then the LORD said to Moses,
Speak unto Aaron,
and to his sons,
and unto all the children of Israel,
and say unto them,
Whatsoever he be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers in Israel, that will offer his
oblation for all his vows,
and for all his
freewill offerings, which they will offer unto the LORD for a burnt offering;
“Speak to Aaron
and his sons
and all the Israelites
and tell them, ‘Any man of the house of Israel or any foreign resident who presents a gift for a burnt offering to the LORD, whether to
fulfill a
vow or as a
freewill offering,
When a man presents a peace offering to the LORD from the
herd or flock to
fulfill a
vow or as a
freewill offering, it must be without
blemish or defect to be acceptable.
Neither from a stranger’s hand shall ye offer the bread of your God of any of these; because their corruption is in them,
and blemishes be in them: they shall not be accepted for you.
Neither you nor a foreigner shall present food to your God from any such animal. They will not be accepted on your behalf, because they are
deformed and flawed.’”
