And when Pharaoh drew
nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were

cried out to the LORD.
There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the

And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute for ever unto him and his seed after him.
Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the Tent of Meeting or
approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they will not
incur guilt and die. This is to be a permanent statute for Aaron and his descendants.
When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the LORD:

thyself, and for the people: and offer the offering of the people, and make an

Approach the altar and sacrifice your sin offering and your burnt offering to make
atonement for
yourself and for the people. And sacrifice the people’s offering to make
atonement for them, as the LORD has commanded.”

slew the

So Aaron
approached the altar and slaughtered the
calf as a sin offering for himself.

None of you shall
approach to any that is near of
kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.
None of you are to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the LORD.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s brother, thou shalt not
approach to his wife: she is thine
aunt.
You must not dishonor your father’s brother by
approaching his wife to have sexual relations with her; she is your
aunt.
Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness.
You must not
approach a woman to have sexual relations with her during her
menstrual period.
And if a woman
approach unto any beast, and lie down

Speak unto Aaron, saying,
Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any
blemish, let him not
approach to offer the bread of his God.
“Say to Aaron, ‘For the generations to come, none of your descendants who has a physical defect may approach to offer the food of his God.
No man who has any defect may
approach—no man who is blind,
lame, disfigured, or
deformed;
No man that hath a
blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come
nigh to offer the offerings of the LORD made by fire: he hath a
blemish; he shall not come
nigh to offer the bread of his God.
No
descendant of Aaron the priest who has a defect shall
approach to present the offerings made by fire to the LORD. Since he has a defect, he is not to come near to offer the food of his God.
but because he has a defect, he must not go near the
veil or
approach the altar, so as not to
desecrate My
sanctuaries. For I am the LORD who sanctifies them.’”
Say unto them,
Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel
hallow unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I am the LORD.
Tell them that for the generations to come, if any of their descendants in a state of uncleanness
approaches the sacred offerings that the Israelites
consecrate to the LORD, that person must be cut off from My presence. I am the LORD.
And thou shalt
appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall wait on their priest’s office: and the stranger that cometh

But those that
encamp before the tabernacle toward the east, even before the tabernacle of the congregation eastward, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the stranger that cometh
nigh shall be put to death.
Moses, Aaron, and Aaron’s sons were to camp to the east of the tabernacle, toward the
sunrise, before the Tent of Meeting. They were to perform the duties of the sanctuary as a service on behalf of the Israelites; but any outsider who
approached the sanctuary was to be put to death.
But thus do unto them, that they may live, and not die, when they
approach unto the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in, and
appoint them every one to his service and to his burden:
In order that they may live and not die when they come near the most holy things, do this for them: Aaron and his sons are to go in and
assign each man his task and what he is to carry.

dedicating of the altar in the day that it was

And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the tabernacle of the congregation, and to make an
atonement for the children of Israel: that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come
nigh unto the sanctuary.
And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and his sons from among the Israelites, to perform the service for the Israelites at the Tent of Meeting and to make
atonement on their behalf, so that no plague will come against the Israelites when they
approach the sanctuary.”
To be a
memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as
Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.

descendant of Aaron should
approach to offer incense before the LORD, lest he become like
Korah and his followers.

Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of

And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.
Then all of you
approached me and said, “Let us send men
ahead of us to search out the land and bring us word of what route to follow and which cities to enter.”

blazing with fire, all the heads of your tribes and your elders
approached me,
And it shall be, when ye are come
nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall
approach and speak unto the people,
When you are about to go into battle, the priest is to come forward and address the army,
And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye
approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts
faint, fear not, and do not
tremble, neither be ye
terrified because of them;
saying to them, “Hear, O Israel,

flee from them.

After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a
psaltery, and a
tabret, and a pipe, and a
harp, before them; and they shall
prophesy:
After that you will come to Gibeah of God, where the Philistines have an outpost. As you

prophesying.

brook, and put them in a
shepherd’s
bag which he had, even in a
scrip; and his
sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the
Philistine.
And David took his staff in his hand, selected five smooth stones from the

bag. And with his
sling in hand, he
approached the
Philistine.

saluted them.

And if so be that the king’s wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore
approached ye so
nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?
if the king’s anger flares, he may ask you, ‘Why did you get so close to the city to fight? Did you not
realize they would shoot from
atop the wall?
And it was so, that when any man came

kiss him.

Gera, and as he
approached, he kept
yelling out curses.
And
Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long
halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if
Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
Then
Elijah approached all the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him. But if
Baal is God, follow him.” But the people did not answer a word.
And

And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that
Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
At the time of the evening sacrifice,
Elijah the prophet
approached the altar and said, “O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant and have done all these things at Your command.
And, behold, there came a prophet unto
Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.
Meanwhile a prophet
approached Ahab king of Israel and declared, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Do you see this entire great army? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand this very day, and you will know that I am the LORD.’”
And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go,
strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.
Afterward, the prophet
approached the king of Israel and said, “Go and
strengthen your position, and take note what you must do, for in the spring the king of
Aram will come up against you.”
And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
Then the man of God approached the king of Israel and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Because the Arameans think the LORD is a god of the hills and not of the valleys, I will deliver all this great army into your hand. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’”
And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had

Naaman’s servants, however,
approached him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be
cleansed’?”
And there stood a
watchman on the tower in
Jezreel, and he
spied the company of
Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And
Joram said, Take an
horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?
Now the
watchman standing on the tower in
Jezreel saw
Jehu’s troops
approaching, and he called out, “I see a company of troops!” “Choose a rider,”
Joram commanded. “Send him out to meet them and ask, ‘Have you come in peace?’”
And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.

surround the king with weapons in hand, and
anyone who
approaches the ranks must be put to death. You must stay close to the king wherever he goes.”

Then they came to
Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up
hither.
they
approached Zerubbabel and the heads of the families, saying, “Let us build with you because, like you, we seek your God and have been sacrificing to Him since the time of King Esar-haddon of Assyria, who brought us here.”
Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the
Canaanites, the
Hittites, the
Perizzites, the Jebusites, the
Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the
Amorites.
After these things had been accomplished, the leaders
approached me and said, “The people of Israel, including the priests and Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the surrounding peoples whose abominations are like those of the
Canaanites,
Hittites,
Perizzites, Jebusites,
Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and
Amorites.
Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at
Shushan to destroy them, to
shew it unto
Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make
supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.
Mordecai also gave Hathach a copy of the written decree issued in
Susa for the destruction of the Jews, to show and explain to
Esther,
urging her to
approach the king,
implore his favor, and
plead before him for her people.
All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, do know, that
whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden
sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
“All the royal officials and the people of the king’s provinces know that one law applies to every man or woman who
approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned—that he be put to death. Only if the king extends the gold
scepter may that person live. But I have not been summoned to appear before the king for the past thirty days.”
And it was so, when the king saw
Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to
Esther the golden
sceptre that was in his hand. So
Esther drew near, and touched the top of the
sceptre.
As soon as the king saw Queen
Esther standing in the court, she found favor in his sight. The king extended the gold
scepter in his hand toward
Esther, and she
approached and touched the
tip of the
scepter.
I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.
I would give account of all my steps; I would approach Him like a prince.)—
For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.
For God need not examine a man further or have him approach for judgment.
He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
He is the foremost of God’s works; only his Maker can draw the sword against him.
Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double
bridle?
Who can strip off his outer coat? Who can
approach him with a
bridle?
Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall
devour before him, and it shall be very
tempestuous round about him.
Our God
approaches and will not be silent!
Consuming fire precedes Him, and a
tempest rages around Him.
Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.
Blessed is the one You choose and bring near to dwell in Your courts! We are filled with the goodness of Your house, the
holiness of Your temple.
There shall no evil
befall thee, neither shall any plague come
nigh thy dwelling.
no evil will
befall you, no plague will
approach your tent.
Remember now thy
Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw
nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
Remember your
Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of
adversity come and the years
approach of which you will say, “I find no pleasure in them,”
The voice of my beloved! behold, he cometh
leaping upon the mountains,
skipping upon the hills.
Listen! My beloved
approaches. Look! Here he comes,
leaping across the mountains, bounding over the hills.
The isles saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came.
The islands see and fear; the ends of the earth
tremble. They
approach and come forward.
He is near that justifieth me; who will
contend with me? let us stand together: who is mine
adversary? let him come near to me.
The One who vindicates Me is near. Who will
dare to
contend with Me? Let us
confront each other! Who has a case against Me? Let him
approach Me!
Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and
forsook not the
ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in
approaching to God.
For day after day they seek Me and delight to know My ways, like a nation that does what is right and does not
forsake the justice of their God. They ask Me for righteous judgments; they delight in the nearness of God.”
And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the LORD.
Their leader will be one of their own, and their ruler will arise from their midst. And I will bring him near, and he will
approach Me, for who would
dare on his own to
approach Me?” declares the LORD.
Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,
Then all the commanders of the forces, along with Johanan son of Kareah, Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least to the greatest, approached
He hath cut off in his fierce anger all the horn of Israel: he hath drawn back his right hand from before the enemy, and he burned against Jacob like a flaming fire, which devoureth round about.
In fierce anger He has cut off every horn of Israel and withdrawn His right hand at the approach of the enemy. He has burned in Jacob like a flaming fire that consumes everything around it.
And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath
defiled his neighbour’s wife, neither hath come near to a
menstruous woman,
He does not eat at the mountain or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not
defile his
neighbor’s wife or
approach a woman during her period.
And the chamber whose prospect is toward the north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar: these are the sons of
Zadok among the sons of Levi, which come near to the LORD to minister unto him.
and the chamber that faces north is for the priests who keep charge of the altar. These are the sons of
Zadok, the only Levites who may
approach the LORD to minister before Him.”
Then said he unto me, The north chambers and the south chambers, which are before the separate place, they be holy chambers, where the priests that
approach unto the LORD shall eat the most holy things: there shall they lay the most holy things, and the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the
trespass offering; for the place is holy.
Then the man said to me, “The north and south chambers facing the temple
courtyard are the holy chambers where the priests who
approach the LORD will eat the most holy offerings. There they will place the most holy offerings—the grain offerings, the sin offerings, and the guilt offerings—for the place is holy.
When the priests enter therein, then shall they not go out of the holy place into the utter court, but there they shall lay their garments wherein they minister; for they are holy; and shall put on other garments, and shall approach to those things which are for the people.
Once the priests have entered the holy area, they must not go out into the outer court until they have left behind the garments in which they minister, for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes before they approach the places that are for the people.”
And thou shalt give to the priests the Levites that be of the seed of
Zadok, which
approach unto me, to minister unto me, saith the Lord GOD, a young
bullock for a sin offering.
You are to give a young bull from the
herd as a sin offering to the
Levitical priests who are of the family of
Zadok, who
approach Me to minister before Me, declares the Lord GOD.
And they shall not come near unto me, to do the office of a priest unto me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, in the most holy place: but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed.
They must not approach Me to serve Me as priests or come near any of My holy things or the most holy things. They will bear the shame of the abominations they have committed.
But the priests the Levites, the sons of
Zadok, that kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went
astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister unto me, and they shall stand before me to offer unto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord GOD:
But the
Levitical priests, who are descended from
Zadok and who kept charge of My sanctuary when the Israelites went
astray from Me, are to
approach Me to minister before Me. They will stand before Me to offer Me fat and blood, declares the Lord GOD.
Then
Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning
fiery furnace, and spake, and said,
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come
hither. Then
Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-nego, came forth of the midst of the fire.
