The throne had six steps, and its back had a rounded top. There were armrests on both sides of the seat, with a lion standing beside each armrest.
Then Pharaoh said unto him, But what hast thou lacked with me, that, behold, thou seekest to go to thine own country? And he answered, Nothing:
howbeit let me go in any wise.
But Pharaoh asked him, “What have you lacked here with me that you suddenly want to go
back to your own country?” “Nothing,”
Hadad replied, “but please let me go.”
And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?
He asked them, “What message do you
advise that we send
back to these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘
Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?”
So
Jeroboam and all the people came to
Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.
After three days,
Jeroboam and all the people returned to
Rehoboam, since the king had said, “Come
back to me on the third day.”
Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They
hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.
that this is what the LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers, the Israelites. Each of you must return home, for this word is from Me.’” So they
listened to the word of the LORD and turned
back according to the word of the LORD.
And it came to pass, when king
Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had
cried against the altar in
Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
Now when King
Jeroboam, who was at the altar in
Bethel, heard the word that the man of God had
cried out against it, he stretched out his hand and said, “Seize him!” But the hand he stretched out toward him
withered, so that he could not pull it
back.
He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him
back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he
lied unto him.
Then the prophet replied, “I too am a prophet like you, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, so that he may eat bread and drink water.’” The old prophet was lying to him,
So he went
back with him, and did eat bread in his house, and
drank water.
but the man of God went
back with him,
ate bread in his house, and
drank water.
And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back:
While they were sitting at the table, the word of the LORD came to the prophet who had brought him back,
But camest
back, and hast eaten bread and
drunk water in the place, of the which the LORD did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy
carcase shall not come unto the
sepulchre of thy fathers.
but you went
back and
ate bread and
drank water in the place where He told you not to do so, your body shall never reach the tomb of your fathers.’”
And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had
drunk, that he
saddled for him the
ass, to wit, for the prophet whom he had brought
back.
And after the man of God had finished eating and drinking, the old prophet who had brought him
back saddled the
donkey for him.
And when the prophet that brought him
back from the way heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who was
disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath
torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.
When the prophet who had brought him
back from his journey heard this, he said, “It is the man of God who disobeyed the command of the LORD. Therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion, and it has
mauled him and killed him, according to the word that the LORD had spoken to him.”
And the prophet took up the
carcase of the man of God, and laid it upon the
ass, and brought it
back: and the old prophet came to the city, to
mourn and to
bury him.
So the old prophet lifted up the body of the man of God, laid it on the
donkey, and brought it
back to his own city to
mourn for him and
bury him.
But hast done evil above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone and made thee other gods, and
molten images, to
provoke me to anger, and hast cast me behind thy
back:
You have done more evil than all who came before you. You have proceeded to make for
yourself other gods and
molten images to
provoke Me, and you have
flung Me behind your
back.
And it was so, when the king went into the house of the LORD, that the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard chamber.
And whenever the king entered the house of the LORD, the guards would bear the shields, and later they would return them to the
guardroom.
Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
Answer me, O LORD! Answer me, so that this people will know that You, the LORD, are God, and that You have turned their hearts back again.”
And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
“Go and look toward the sea,” he said to his servant. So the servant went and looked, and he said, “There is nothing there.” Seven times
Elijah said, “Go
back.”
And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest,
anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:
Then the LORD said to him, “Go
back by the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you arrive, you are to
anoint Hazael as king over
Aram.
And he left the oxen, and ran after
Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee,
kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go
back again: for what have I done to thee?
So
Elisha left the oxen, ran after
Elijah, and said, “Please let me
kiss my father and mother goodbye, and then I will follow you.” “Go on
back,”
Elijah replied, “for what have I done to you?”
And he returned
back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and
slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after
Elijah, and ministered unto him.
So
Elisha turned
back from him, took his pair of oxen, and slaughtered them. With the oxen’s
equipment, he
cooked the meat and gave it to the people, and they
ate. Then he set out to follow and serve
Elijah.
And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaketh Ben-
hadad, saying, Although I have sent unto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;
The messengers came
back and said, “This is what Ben-
hadad says: ‘I have sent to you to demand your silver, your gold, your wives, and your children.
And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him
back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to
Joash the king’s son;
And the king of Israel declared, “Take Micaiah and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to
Joash the king’s son,
And it came to pass, when the captains of the
chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned
back from pursuing him.
And when the
chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel, they turned
back from pursuing him.
And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are ye now turned back?
When the messengers returned to the king, he asked them, “Why have you returned?”
And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to
enquire of
Baal-
zebub the god of
Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.
They replied, “A man came up to meet us and said, ‘Go
back to the king who sent you and tell him that this is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending these men to inquire of
Baal-
zebub, the god of
Ekron? Therefore you will not get up from the bed on which you are lying. You will surely die.’”
He took up also the
mantle of
Elijah that fell from him, and went
back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
And he turned
back, and looked on them, and
cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and
tare forty and two children of them.
Then he turned around, looked at them, and called down a
curse on them in the name of the LORD. Suddenly two female bears came out of the woods and
mauled forty-two of the boys.
And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not
awaked.
Gehazi went on
ahead of them and laid the staff on the boy’s face, but there was no sound or
response. So he went
back to meet
Elisha and told him, “The boy has not
awakened.”
Then he returned, and walked in the house to and
fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child
sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
Elisha turned away and
paced back and forth across the room. Then he got on the bed and stretched himself out over the boy again, and the boy
sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.
And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his
lap full, and came and
shred them into the pot of
pottage: for they knew them not.
One of them went out to the field to gather herbs, and he found a wild vine from which he gathered as many wild gourds as his garment could hold. Then he came
back and cut them up into the pot of
stew, though no one knew what they were.
And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.
Then
Naaman and all his attendants went
back to the man of God, stood before him, and declared, “Now I know for sure that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel. So please accept a gift from your servant.”
And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life,
cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom
Elisha restored to life.
And Gehazi was telling the king how
Elisha had brought the dead
back to life. Just then the woman whose son
Elisha had revived came to appeal to the king for her house and her land. So Gehazi said, “My lord the king, this is the woman, and this is the son
Elisha restored to life.”
And king
Joram went
back to be
healed in
Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at
Ramah, when he fought against
Hazael king of Syria. And
Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see
Joram the son of
Ahab in
Jezreel, because he was sick.
So King
Joram returned to
Jezreel to recover from the wounds that the Arameans had inflicted on him at
Ramah when he fought against
Hazael king of
Aram. Then
Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to
Jezreel to visit
Joram son of
Ahab, because
Joram had been wounded.
So there went one on
horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And
Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the
watchman told, saying, The
messenger came to them, but he cometh not again.
So a
horseman rode off to meet
Jehu and said, “This is what the king asks: ‘Have you come in peace?’” “What do you know about peace?”
Jehu replied. “Fall in behind me.” And the
watchman reported, “The
messenger reached them, but he is not coming
back.”
And the
watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and cometh not again: and the driving is like the driving of
Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth
furiously.
Again the
watchman reported, “He reached them, but he is not coming
back. And the
charioteer is driving like
Jehu son of Nimshi—he is driving like a
madman!”
Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servant
Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of
Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of
Jezebel:
So they went
back and told
Jehu, who replied, “This is the word of the LORD, which He spoke through His servant
Elijah the Tishbite: ‘On the plot of ground at
Jezreel the dogs will
devour the flesh of
Jezebel.
And Jehoash the son of
Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Ben-
hadad the son of
Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of
Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did
Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
Then Jehoash son of
Jehoahaz took
back from Ben-
hadad son of
Hazael the cities that
Hazael had taken in battle from his father
Jehoahaz. Jehoash defeated Ben-
hadad three times, and so recovered the cities of Israel.
And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

And Menahem exacted the money of Israel, even of all the mighty men of wealth, of each man fifty shekels of silver, to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria turned back, and stayed not there in the land.
Menahem exacted this money from each of the wealthy men of Israel—fifty shekels of silver from each man—to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria withdrew and did not remain in the land.
And when the king was come from Damascus, the king saw the altar: and the king approached to the altar, and offered
thereon.
When the king came back from Damascus and saw the altar, he approached it and presented offerings on it.
Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.
Then the king of Assyria commanded: “Send back one of the priests you carried off from Samaria, and have him go back to live there and teach the requirements of the God of the land.”
Because thy
rage against me and thy
tumult is come up into mine ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose, and my
bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee
back by the way by which thou camest.
Because your
rage and
arrogance against Me have reached My ears, I will put My hook in your nose and My
bit in your mouth; I will send you
back the way you came.’
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
He will go back the way he came, and he will not enter this city,’ declares the LORD.
Turn again, and tell
Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will
heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.
“Go
back and tell
Hezekiah the leader of My people that this is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: ‘I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. I will surely
heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the house of the LORD.
And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?
And Isaiah had replied, “This will be a sign to you from the LORD that He will do what He has promised: Would you like the shadow to go forward ten steps, or back ten steps?”
And
Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees:
nay, but let the shadow return
backward ten degrees.
“It is easy for the shadow to
lengthen ten steps,” answered
Hezekiah, “but not for it to go
back ten steps.”
And Isaiah the prophet
cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees
backward, by which it had gone down in the
dial of
Ahaz.
So Isaiah the prophet called out to the LORD, and He brought the shadow
back the ten steps it had descended on the
stairway of
Ahaz.
Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
‘Therefore I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place.’” So they brought her answer
back to the king.
And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou
wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.
Even in times past, while Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them
back. And the LORD your God said, ‘You will
shepherd My people Israel, and you will be ruler over them.’”
And the three
brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of
Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD,
So the Three broke through the
Philistine camp, drew water from the well at the gate of
Bethlehem, and brought it
back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the LORD,
And let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we enquired not at it in the days of Saul.
Then let us bring back the ark of our God, for we did not inquire of Him in the days of Saul.”
Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly
ashamed. And the king said,
Tarry at
Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
When someone came and told David about his men, he sent messengers to meet them, since the men had been thoroughly
humiliated. The king told them, “Stay in
Jericho until your beards have grown
back, and then return.”
And when the children of
Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before
Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then
Joab came to Jerusalem.
When the
Ammonites saw that the Arameans had fled, they too fled before
Joab’s brother
Abishai, and they entered the city. So
Joab went
back to Jerusalem.
And Ornan turned
back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him
hid themselves. Now Ornan was
threshing wheat.
Now Ornan was
threshing wheat when he turned and saw the angel; and his four sons who were with him
hid themselves.
And the LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the
sheath thereof.
Then the LORD spoke to the angel, who put his sword
back into its
sheath.
And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.
Rehoboam answered, “Come
back to me in three days.” So the people departed.
And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?
He asked them, “What message do you
advise that we send
back to these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘
Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?”
So
Jeroboam and all the people came to
Rehoboam on the third day, as the king
bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.
After three days,
Jeroboam and all the people returned to
Rehoboam, since the king had said, “Come
back to me on the third day.”
Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against
Jeroboam.
that this is what the LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers. Each of you must return home, for this word is from Me.’” So they
listened to the words of the LORD and turned
back from going against
Jeroboam.
And when Judah looked
back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they
cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the
trumpets.
When Judah turned and discovered that the battle was both before and behind them, they
cried out to the LORD. Then the priests
blew the
trumpets,
And they offered unto the LORD the same time, of the
spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.
At that time they sacrificed to the LORD seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep from all the
plunder they had brought
back.
Then the king of Israel said, Take ye Micaiah, and carry him
back to Amon the governor of the city, and to
Joash the king’s son;
And the king of Israel declared, “Take Micaiah and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to
Joash the king’s son,
For it came to pass, that, when the captains of the
chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, they turned
back again from pursuing him.
And when the
chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel, they turned
back from pursuing him.
And
Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beer-
sheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them
back unto the LORD God of their fathers.
Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, and once again he went out among the people from
Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and turned them
back to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s
scribe and the high priest’s officer came and
emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites to the king’s overseers and they saw that there was a large amount of money, the royal
scribe and the officer of the high priest would come and empty the chest and carry it
back to its place. They did this daily and gathered the money in abundance.
Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they
testified against them: but they would not give ear.
Nevertheless, the LORD sent prophets to bring the people
back to Him and to
testify against them; but they would not
listen.
But the soldiers of the army which
Amaziah sent
back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and
smote three thousand of them, and took much
spoil.
Meanwhile the troops that
Amaziah had dismissed from battle
raided the cities of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-horon. They struck down 3,000 people and carried off a great deal of
plunder.
Now it came to pass, after that
Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of
Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.
When
Amaziah returned from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought
back the gods of the Seirites, set them up as his own gods, bowed before them, and burned sacrifices to them.
And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.
They carried him back on horses and buried him with his fathers in the City of Judah.
For our fathers have
trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have
forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the
habitation of the LORD, and turned their
backs.
For our fathers were unfaithful and did evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned Him, turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned their backs on Him.
And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his
supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then
Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God.
And when he prayed to Him, the LORD received his
plea and heard his petition; so He brought him
back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then
Manasseh knew that the LORD is God.
And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back again, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, they do it.
Then Shaphan brought the book to the king and reported, “Your servants are doing all that has been placed in their hands.
Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.
‘Now I will indeed gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the
calamity that I will bring on this place and on its inhabitants.’” So they brought her answer
back to the king.
Then went I up in the night by the
brook, and viewed the wall, and turned
back, and entered by the gate of the valley, and so returned.
so I went up the valley by night and
inspected the wall. Then I headed
back and reentered through the Valley Gate.
And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they
fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the
rubbish which are burned?
before his associates and the army of Samaria, saying, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Can they restore the wall by themselves? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they complete it in a day? Can they bring these burnt stones
back to life from the mounds of
rubble?”
Hear, O our God; for we are
despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity:
Hear us, O God, for we are
despised. Turn their
scorn back upon their own heads, and let them be taken as
plunder to a land of captivity.
And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.
and said, “We have done our best to
buy back our Jewish brothers who were sold to foreigners, but now you are selling your own brothers, that they may be sold
back to us!” But they remained silent, for they could find nothing to say.
Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters unto
Tobiah, and the letters of
Tobiah came unto them.
Also in those days, the nobles of Judah sent many letters to
Tobiah, and
Tobiah’s letters came
back to them.
And that they should
publish and
proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and
fetch olive branches, and pine branches, and
myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.
So they proclaimed this message and spread it throughout their towns and in Jerusalem, saying, “Go out to the hill country and bring
back branches of olive, wild olive,
myrtle, palm, and other
leafy trees, to make booths, as it is written.”
So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim.
And the people went out, brought back branches, and made booths on their own rooftops, in their courtyards, in the court of the house of God, and in the squares by the Water Gate and by the Gate of Ephraim.
Nevertheless they were
disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their
backs, and
slew thy prophets which
testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.
But they were
disobedient and rebelled against You; they
flung Your law behind their
backs. They killed Your prophets, who had
admonished them to return to You. They committed terrible blasphemies.
And testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law: yet they dealt proudly, and
hearkened not unto thy commandments, but
sinned against thy judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them;) and withdrew the shoulder, and
hardened their neck, and would not hear.
You
admonished them to turn
back to Your law, but they were
arrogant and disobeyed Your commandments. They
sinned against Your ordinances, by which a man will live if he practices them. They
stubbornly shrugged their shoulders; they
stiffened their necks and would not obey.
And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field.
I also learned that because the portions for the Levites had not been given to them, all the Levites and singers responsible for performing the service had gone back to their own fields.
And
Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women’s house, to know how
Esther did, and what should become of her.
And every day
Mordecai would walk
back and forth in front of the court of the
harem to learn about
Esther’s
welfare and what was happening to her.
Then
Mordecai commanded to answer
Esther, Think not with
thyself that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews.
he sent back to her this reply: “Do not imagine that because you are in the king’s palace you alone will escape the fate of all the Jews.
Haman said moreover,
Yea,
Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the
banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to
morrow am I invited unto her also with the king.
“What is more,”
Haman added, “Queen
Esther invited no one but me to join the king at the
banquet she prepared, and I am invited
back tomorrow along with the king.
But when
Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked
device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be
hanged on the
gallows.
But when it came before the king, he commanded by letter that the wicked scheme which
Haman had devised against the Jews should come
back upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be
hanged on the
gallows.
And the LORD said unto
Satan, Whence comest thou? Then
Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and
fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
“Where have you come from?” said the LORD to
Satan. “From
roaming through the earth,” he replied, “and walking
back and forth in it.”
And the LORD said unto
Satan, From whence comest thou? And
Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and
fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
“Where have you come from?” said the LORD to
Satan. “From
roaming through the earth,” he replied, “and walking
back and forth in it.”
As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.
As a cloud vanishes and is gone, so he who goes down to
Sheol does not come
back up.
Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.
If He holds
back the waters, they dry up, and if He releases them, they
overwhelm the land.
Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I
forbear, what am I eased?
Even if I speak, my pain is not relieved, and if I hold back, how will it go away?
But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.
But come back and try again, all of you. For I will not find a wise man among you.
It is drawn, and cometh out of the body;
yea, the
glittering sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon him.
It is drawn out of his
back, the
gleaming point from his liver. Terrors come over him.
Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:
If I go east, He is not there, and if I go west, I cannot find Him.
Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
I have not departed from the command of His lips; I have
treasured the words of His mouth more than my daily bread.
He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it.
He covers the face of the full moon, spreading over it His cloud.
He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
to preserve his soul from the Pit and his life from perishing by the sword.
To bring
back his soul from the pit, to be
enlightened with the light of the living.
to bring
back his soul from the Pit, that he may be
enlightened with the light of life.
