slept: and he took one of his ribs, and
closed up the flesh instead thereof;

Esau, or not?”

circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.

close to the
rim, to serve as holders for the poles used to carry the table.

close to the
backbone, the fat that covers the
entrails, all the fat that is on them,

None of you shall approach to any that is near of
kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.
None of you are to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the LORD.

kinswoman.
You must not have sexual relations with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s sister: for she is thy mother’s near
kinswoman.
You must not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s close relative.

kinswomen: it is wickedness.

redeem him, or any that is
nigh of
kin unto him of his family may
redeem him; or if he be able, he may
redeem himself.

redeem him. Or if he prospers, he may
redeem himself.
And a man lie with her
carnally, and it be
hid from the eyes of her husband, and be kept
close, and she be
defiled, and there be no witness against her, neither she be taken with the manner;

appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth
closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

vanished from the assembly.
And when thou comest
nigh over against the children of
Ammon, distress them not, nor
meddle with them: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of
Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.
But when you get
close to the
Ammonites, do not
harass them or
provoke them, for I will not give you any of the land of the
Ammonites. I have given it to the descendants of Lot as their possession.”
If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy
bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul,
entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;
If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (which neither you nor your fathers have known,
And it came to pass about the time of
shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out:
whither the men went I
wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.

close, the men went out, and I do not know which way they went. Pursue them quickly, and you may catch them!”

concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the
damsel’s father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you
tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end,
lodge here, that thine heart may be
merry; and to
morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.
When the man got up to depart with his
concubine and his servant, his father-in-law, the
girl’s father, said to him, “Look, the day is drawing to a
close. Please
spend the night. See, the day is almost over.
Spend the night here, that your heart may be
merry. Then you can get up early
tomorrow for your journey home.”

Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to
glean in another field, neither go from hence, but

glean in another field, and do not go away from this place, but stay here
close to my servant girls.
And
Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And

Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his
anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose
ass have I taken? or whom have I
defrauded? whom have I
oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any
bribe to blind mine eyes
therewith? and I will restore it you.
Here I am. Bear witness against me before the LORD and before His
anointed: Whose ox or
donkey have I taken? Whom have I
cheated or
oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a
bribe and
closed my eyes? Tell me, and I will restore it to you.”

nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?

close to the city to fight? Did you not
realize they would shoot from
atop the wall?
Who
smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a
millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye
nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
Who was the one to strike
Abimelech son of Jerubbesheth? Was it not a woman who dropped an upper
millstone on him from the wall, so that he died in Thebez? Why did you get so
close to the wall?’ If so, then you are to say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead as well.’”
Strangers shall
fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their
close places.
Foreigners lose heart and come
trembling from their strongholds.

twain, and prayed unto the LORD.
So he went in, closed the door behind the two of them, and prayed to the LORD.
So
Jehu slew all that remained of the house of
Ahab in
Jezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.
So

Ahab, as well as all his great men and
close friends and priests, leaving him without a single
survivor.
And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.

anyone who approaches the ranks must be put to death. You must stay
close to the king wherever he goes.”

covert for the sabbath that they had built in the house, and the king’s entry without, turned he from the house of the LORD for the king of Assyria.

closed the royal entryway outside the house of the LORD.
Now these are they that came to David to
Ziklag, while he yet kept himself
close because of Saul the son of
Kish: and they were among the mighty men, helpers of the war.
Now these were the men who came to David at
Ziklag, while he was still banished from the presence of Saul son of
Kish (they were among the mighty men who helped him in battle;
If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to
devour the land, or if I send
pestilence among my people;
If I
close the sky so there is no rain, or if I command the
locust to
devour the land, or if I send a plague among My people,
And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and
whosoever else cometh into the house, he shall be put to death: but be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.
The Levites must
surround the king with weapons in hand, and
anyone who enters the temple must be put to death. You must stay
close to the king wherever he goes.”

Sanballat, and
Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the
Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very
wroth,
When
Sanballat and
Tobiah, together with the Arabs,
Ammonites, and Ashdodites, heard that the repair to the walls of Jerusalem was progressing and that the gaps were being
closed, they were
furious,
And the next unto him was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha,
Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, which saw the king’s face, and which sat the first in the kingdom;)

closest advisors were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha,
Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media who had personal access to the king and ranked highest in the kingdom.
For thou hast
hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not
exalt them.
You have
closed their minds to understanding; therefore You will not
exalt them.
Seeing it is
hid from the eyes of all living, and kept
close from the fowls of the air.
It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing and concealed from the birds of the air.
Hear
attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth.
His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.
His rows of scales are his pride,
tightly sealed together.

The strangers shall
fade away, and be afraid out of their
close places.
Foreigners lose heart and come
trembling from their strongholds.
Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his
heel against me.
Even my
close friend whom I trusted, the one who shared my bread, has lifted up his
heel against me.
But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance.
But it is you, a man like myself, my companion and close friend.
Let not the
waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep
swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.
Do not let the floods
engulf me or the depths
swallow me up; let not the Pit
close its mouth over me.
Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness.
You have removed my beloved and my friend; darkness is my closest companion.
A man that hath friends must
shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh
closer than a brother.
A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who stays closer than a brother.
Be thou
diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
Be sure to know the state of your flocks, and pay close attention to your herds;
From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been
closed, neither bound up, neither
mollified with
ointment.
From the sole of your foot to the top of your head, there is no soundness— only wounds and welts and
festering sores neither
cleansed nor
bandaged nor
soothed with oil.
Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be
healed.
Make the hearts of this people calloused;
deafen their ears and
close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be
healed.”
The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in.
For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered.
For the LORD has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep. He has shut your eyes, O prophets; He has covered your heads, O seers.
And the eyes of them that see shall not be
dim, and the ears of them that hear shall
hearken.
Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be
closed, and the ears of those who hear will
listen.
He shall feed his flock like a
shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his
bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
He tends His flock like a
shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them
close to His heart. He gently leads the
nursing ewes.
They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.
They do not
comprehend or
discern, for He has shut their eyes so they cannot see and
closed their minds so they cannot understand.
Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the
womb? saith thy God.
Shall I bring a
baby to the point of birth and not deliver it?” says the LORD. “Or will I who deliver
close the
womb?” says your God.
To whom shall I speak, and give
warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is
uncircumcised, and they cannot
hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
To whom can I give this
warning? Who will
listen to me? Look, their ears are
closed, so they cannot hear. See, the word of the LORD has become offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it.
What
wilt thou say when he shall
punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in
travail?
What will you say when He sets over you
close allies whom you
yourself trained? Will not pangs of
anguish grip you, as they do a woman in labor?
Shalt thou reign, because thou
closest thyself in
cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him?
Does it make you a king to
excel in
cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He administered justice and righteousness, and so it went well with him.
Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine,
whereof ye were afraid, shall follow
close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.
then the sword you fear will overtake you there, and the famine you
dread will follow on your heels into Egypt, and you will die there.
Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest.
We are
closely pursued; we are
weary and find no rest.
Thou art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast shed; and hast
defiled thyself in thine idols which thou hast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come even unto thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a
mocking to all countries.
you are guilty of the blood you have shed, and you are
defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a
close and have come to the end of your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations and a
mockery to all the lands.
And the LORD said unto me, Son of man, mark well, and behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears all that I say unto thee concerning all the ordinances of the house of the LORD, and all the laws thereof; and mark well the entering in of the house, with every going forth of the sanctuary.
The LORD said to me: “Son of man, pay attention; look carefully with your eyes and
listen closely with your ears to everything I tell you concerning all the statutes and laws of the house of the LORD. Take careful note of the entrance to the temple, along with all the exits of the sanctuary.
Now when the prince shall prepare a voluntary burnt offering or peace offerings
voluntarily unto the LORD, one shall then open him the gate that looketh toward the east, and he shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, as he did on the sabbath day: then he shall go forth; and after his going forth one shall shut the gate.
When the prince makes a
freewill offering to the LORD, whether a burnt offering or a peace offering, the gate facing east must be opened for him. He is to offer his burnt offering or peace offering just as he does on the Sabbath day. Then he shall go out, and the gate must be
closed after he goes out.
And I saw him come
close unto the ram, and he was moved with
choler against him, and
smote the ram, and
brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.
I saw him approach the ram in a
rage against him, and he struck the ram and
shattered his two horns. The ram was powerless to stand against him, and the goat threw him to the ground and
trampled him, and no one could deliver the ram from his power.
And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
“Go on your way, Daniel,” he replied, “for the words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end.
In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:
“In that day I will restore the fallen tent of David. I will repair its gaps, restore its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old,
The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth
closed me round about, the weeds were
wrapped about my head.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy
closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which
seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have
closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should
heal them.
For this people’s heart has grown
callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have
closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would
heal them.’
And he
closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the
synagogue were fastened on him.
And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
After the voice had spoken, only Jesus was present with them. The disciples kept this to themselves, and in those days they did not tell
anyone what they had seen.
Therefore
whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in
closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.
What you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the
daylight, and what you have
whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the housetops.
And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief
Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.
One Sabbath, Jesus went to eat in the home of a leading
Pharisee, and those in attendance were watching Him
closely.
And they watched him, and sent forth
spies, which should
feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
So they watched Him
closely and sent
spies who pretended to be
sincere. They were hoping to catch Him in His words in order to hand Him over to the rule and authority of the governor.
When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him,
When Moses saw it, he
marveled at the sight. As he approached to look more
closely, the voice of the Lord came to him:
And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had
bewitched them with
sorceries.
They paid
close attention to him because he had
astounded them for a long time with his
sorcery.
Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was
baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
Even Simon himself believed and was
baptized. He followed Philip
closely and was
astounded by the great signs and miracles he observed.
And the
morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And
Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his
kinsmen and near friends.
The following day he arrived in Caesarea, where
Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and
close friends.
Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw
fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and
creeping things, and fowls of the air.
I looked at it closely and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds of the air.
And when the south wind
blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed
close by
Crete.
When a gentle south wind began to blow, they thought they had their opportunity. So they
weighed anchor and sailed along,
hugging the coast of
Crete.
For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they
closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should
heal them.
For this people’s heart has grown
callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have
closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would
heal them.’
But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
But food does not bring us closer to God: We are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same
vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which
vail is done away in Christ.
But their minds were
closed. For to this day the same
veil remains at the reading of the old covenant. It has not been lifted, because only in Christ can it be removed.
Take
heed unto
thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save
thyself, and them that hear thee.
Pay
close attention to your life and to your teaching.
Persevere in these things, for by so doing you will save both
yourself and those who hear you.
Therefore we ought to give the more earnest
heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
We must pay closer attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and
Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
Then I looked and saw a pale green horse. Its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed close behind. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill by sword, by famine, by plague, and by the beasts of the earth.
