To
confirm these days of
Purim in their times appointed, according as
Mordecai the
Jew and
Esther the queen had
enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.
in order to
confirm these days of
Purim at their appointed time, just as
Mordecai the
Jew and Queen
Esther had established them and had
committed themselves and their descendants to the times of fasting and
lamentation.
I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:
However, if I were you, I would appeal to God and lay my cause before Him—
Therefore
hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the
Almighty, that he should
commit iniquity.
Therefore
listen to me, O men of understanding. Far be it from God to do wrong, and from the
Almighty to act unjustly.
Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.
But You have regarded trouble and grief; You see to repay it by Your hand. The
victim entrusts himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless.
Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.
Into Your hands I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O LORD, God of truth.
Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will do it.
We have
sinned with our fathers, we have
committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.
We have
sinned like our fathers; we have done wrong and acted wickedly.
O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!
Oh, that my ways were committed to keeping Your statutes!
But
whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Commit your works to the LORD and your plans will be achieved.
It is an
abomination to kings to
commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
Wicked
behavior is
detestable to kings, for a throne is established through righteousness.
And I will
clothe him with thy
robe, and
strengthen him with thy
girdle, and I will
commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.
I will
clothe him with your
robe and
tie your
sash around him. I will put your authority in his hand, and he will be a father to the dwellers of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.
And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her
hire, and shall
commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.
And at the end of seventy years, the LORD will restore Tyre. Then she will return to
hire as a
prostitute and sell herself to all the kingdoms on the face of the earth.
For my people have
committed two evils; they have
forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and
hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
“For My people have
committed two evils: They have
forsaken Me, the fountain of living water, and they have
dug their own cisterns— broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
And I saw, when for all the causes whereby
backsliding Israel
committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of
divorce; yet her
treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the
harlot also.
She saw that because faithless Israel had
committed adultery, I gave her a
certificate of
divorce and sent her away. Yet that unfaithful sister Judah had no fear and
prostituted herself as well.
And it came to pass through the lightness of her
whoredom, that she
defiled the land, and
committed adultery with stones and with stocks.
How shall I
pardon thee for this? thy children have
forsaken me, and
sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then
committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots’ houses.
“Why should I
forgive you? Your children have
forsaken Me and
sworn by gods that are not gods. I satisfied their needs, yet they
committed adultery and assembled at the houses of prostitutes.
A wonderful and
horrible thing is
committed in the land;
Were they
ashamed when they had
committed abomination?
nay, they were not at all
ashamed, neither could they
blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
Are they
ashamed of the
abomination they have
committed? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to
blush. So they will fall among the fallen; when I
punish them, they will
collapse,” says the LORD.
Will ye
steal, murder, and
commit adultery, and
swear falsely, and burn incense unto
Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;
Will you
steal and murder,
commit adultery and
perjury, burn incense to
Baal, and follow other gods that you have not known,
Were they
ashamed when they had
committed abomination?
nay, they were not at all
ashamed, neither could they
blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their
visitation they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
Are they
ashamed of the
abomination they have
committed? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to
blush. So they will fall among the fallen; when I
punish them, they will
collapse, says the LORD.
And they will
deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and
weary themselves to
commit iniquity.
Each one betrays his friend; no one tells the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie; they wear themselves out
committing iniquity.
But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the
reins and the heart, let me see thy
vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.
O LORD of Hosts, who judges righteously, who examines the heart and mind, let me see Your
vengeance upon them, for to You I have
committed my cause.
And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt
shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have
committed against the LORD our God?
When you tell these people all these things, they will ask you, ‘Why has the LORD pronounced all this great
disaster against us? What is our guilt? What is the sin that we have
committed against the LORD our God?’
But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the
reins and the heart, let me see thy
vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause.
O LORD of Hosts, who examines the righteous, who sees the heart and mind, let me see Your
vengeance upon them, for to You I have
committed my cause.
I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an
horrible thing: they
commit adultery, and walk in lies: they
strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none
doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as
Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as
Gomorrah.
And among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a
horrible thing: They
commit adultery and walk in lies. They
strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns his back on wickedness. They are all like
Sodom to Me; the people of Jerusalem are like
Gomorrah.”
Because they have
committed villany in Israel, and have
committed adultery with their neighbours’ wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.
For they have
committed an
outrage in Israel by
committing adultery with the wives of their neighbors and speaking lies in My name, which I did not command them to do. I am He who knows, and I am a witness, declares the LORD.”
And they built the high places of
Baal, which are in the valley of the son of
Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto
Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this
abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
They have built the high places of
Baal in the Valley of
Hinnom to make their sons and daughters pass through the fire to
Molech—something I never commanded them, nor had it ever entered My mind, that they should
commit such an
abomination and cause Judah to sin.
And I will
cleanse them from all the iniquity they have
committed against Me, and will
forgive all their sins of rebellion against Me.
Then
Zedekiah the king commanded that they should
commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.
So King
Zedekiah gave orders for Jeremiah to be placed in the
courtyard of the guard and given a
loaf of bread daily from the street of the bakers, until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in the
courtyard of the guard.
Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and
committed him unto Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people.
had Jeremiah brought from the
courtyard of the guard, and they turned him over to Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to take him home. So Jeremiah remained among his own people.
Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam governor in the land, and had
committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away
captive to Babylon;
When all the commanders and men of the armies in the field heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam over the land and that he had put him in charge of the men, women, and children who were the poorest of the land and had not been exiled to Babylon,
Then
Ishmael carried away
captive all the residue of the people that were in
Mizpah, even the king’s daughters, and all the people that remained in
Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had
committed to Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam: and
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away
captive, and departed to go over to the
Ammonites.
But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,
When Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the armies with him heard of all the crimes that
Ishmael son of Nethaniah had
committed,
Because of their wickedness which they have
committed to
provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers.
because of the evil they have done. They
provoked Me to anger by continuing to burn incense and to serve other gods that neither they nor you nor your fathers ever knew.
Therefore now thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore
commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and
suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;
So now, this is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Why are you doing such great
harm to
yourselves by cutting off from Judah man and woman, child and infant, leaving
yourselves without a
remnant?
Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers and of the kings of Judah and their wives, as well as the wickedness that you and your wives committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
So that the LORD could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have
committed; therefore is your land a
desolation, and an
astonishment, and a
curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.
Again, When a righteous man
doth turn from his righteousness, and
commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him
warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Now if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and
commits iniquity, and I put a
stumbling block before him, he will die. If you did not
warn him, he will die in his sin, and the righteous acts he did will not be remembered. And I will hold you responsible for his blood.
And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations
whither they shall be carried
captives, because I am broken with their
whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a
whoring after their idols: and they shall
lothe themselves for the evils which they have
committed in all their abominations.
Then in the nations to which they have been carried
captive, your survivors will remember Me—how I have been
grieved by their
adulterous hearts that turned away from Me, and by their eyes that
lusted after idols. So they will
loathe themselves for the evil they have done and for all their abominations.
He said
furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel
committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see what they are doing—the great abominations that the house of Israel is
committing—to drive Me far from My sanctuary? Yet you will see even greater abominations.”
And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here.
Then He said to me, “Go in and see the wicked abominations they are
committing here.”
He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.
Again, He told me, “You will see them
committing even greater abominations.”
Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they
commit the abominations which they
commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to
provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.
“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see this? Is it not enough for the house of Judah to
commit the abominations they are practicing here, that they must also fill the land with violence and continually
provoke Me to anger? Look, they are even putting the branch to their nose!
And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that
sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.
“Go throughout the city of Jerusalem,” said the LORD, “and put a mark on the foreheads of the men
sighing and
groaning over all the abominations
committed there.”
And I will make the land
desolate, because they have
committed a
trespass, saith the Lord GOD.
Thus I will make the land
desolate, because they have acted unfaithfully,’ declares the Lord GOD.”
Thou hast also taken thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest to
thyself images of men, and
didst commit whoredom with them,
You also took the fine
jewelry of gold and silver I had given you, and you made male idols with which to
prostitute yourself.
Thou hast also
committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, great of flesh; and hast increased thy whoredoms, to
provoke me to anger.
But as a wife that
committeth adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband!
You
adulterous wife! You receive strangers instead of your own husband!
And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy whoredoms, whereas none followeth thee to commit whoredoms: and in that thou givest a reward, and no reward is given unto thee, therefore thou art contrary.
So your
prostitution is the opposite of that of other women: No one
solicited your favors, and you paid a fee instead of receiving one; so you are the very opposite!
And I will judge thee, as women that break
wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give thee blood in
fury and jealousy.
And I will sentence you to the punishment of women who
commit adultery and those who shed blood; so I will bring upon you the wrath of your
bloodshed and jealousy.
Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast
fretted me in all these things; behold, therefore I also will
recompense thy way upon thine head, saith the Lord GOD: and thou shalt not
commit this
lewdness above all thine abominations.
Because you did not remember the days of your youth, but
enraged Me with all these things, I will surely bring your deeds down upon your own head, declares the Lord GOD. Have you not
committed this
lewdness on top of all your other abominations?
And they were
haughty, and
committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
Thus they were
haughty and
committed abominations before Me. Therefore I removed them, as you have seen.
Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done.
Furthermore, Samaria did not
commit half the sins you did. You have multiplied your abominations beyond theirs, and all the abominations you have
committed have made your sisters appear righteous.
Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast
committed more
abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou:
yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.
So now you must bear your disgrace, since you have brought
justification for your sisters. For they appear more righteous than you, because your sins were more
vile than theirs. So you too must bear your shame and disgrace, since you have made your sisters appear righteous.
And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my
snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will
plead with him there for his
trespass that he hath
trespassed against me.
I will spread My net over him and catch him in My
snare. I will bring him to Babylon and
execute judgment upon him there for the treason he
committed against Me.
And hath not
oppressed any, but hath restored to the
debtor his
pledge, hath
spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the
hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;
He does not
oppress another, but restores the
pledge to the
debtor. He does not
commit robbery, but gives his bread to the
hungry and covers the naked with clothing.
He oppresses the poor and
needy; he
commits robbery and does not restore a
pledge. He lifts his eyes to idols; he
commits abominations.
Hath given forth upon
usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
He engages in
usury and takes excess interest. Will this son live? He will not! Since he has
committed all these abominations, he will surely die; his blood will be on his own head.
Now, lo, if he
beget a son, that
seeth all his father’s sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,
Now suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father has committed, considers them, and does not do likewise:
He does not
oppress another, or retain a
pledge, or
commit robbery. He gives his bread to the
hungry and covers the naked with clothing.
But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
But if the wicked man turns from all the sins he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is just and right, he will surely live; he will not die.
All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
None of the transgressions he has committed will be held against him. Because of the righteousness he has practiced, he will live.
But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and
committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his
trespass that he hath
trespassed, and in his sin that he hath
sinned, in them shall he die.
But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity,
committing the same abominations as the wicked, will he live? None of the righteous acts he did will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness and sin he has
committed, he will die.
When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, he will die for this. He will die because of the iniquity he has committed.
Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
But if a wicked man turns from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will save his life.
Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Because he considered and turned from all the transgressions he had committed, he will surely live; he will not die.
Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have
transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
Cast away from
yourselves all the transgressions you have
committed, and fashion for
yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. Why should you die, O house of Israel?
Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have
blasphemed me, in that they have
committed a
trespass against me.
Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel, and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: In this way also your fathers
blasphemed Me by their unfaithfulness against Me.
Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye
polluted after the manner of your fathers? and
commit ye
whoredom after their abominations?
And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been
defiled; and ye shall
lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have
committed.
In thee are men that carry tales to shed blood: and in thee they eat upon the mountains: in the midst of thee they
commit lewdness.
And one hath
committed abomination with his neighbour’s wife; and another hath
lewdly defiled his daughter in law; and another in thee hath humbled his sister, his father’s daughter.
One man
commits an
abomination with his
neighbor’s wife; another wickedly defiles his daughter-in-law; and yet another
violates his sister, his own father’s daughter.
The people of the land have practiced
extortion and
committed robbery. They have
oppressed the poor and
needy and have exploited the foreign resident without justice.
And they
committed whoredoms in Egypt; they
committed whoredoms in their youth: there were their breasts pressed, and there they
bruised the teats of their
virginity.
and they played in Egypt,
prostituting themselves from their youth. Their breasts were
fondled there, and their virgin bosoms
caressed.
Thus she
committed her whoredoms with them, with all them that were the chosen men of Assyria, and with all on whom she
doted: with all their idols she
defiled herself.
She offered sexual favors to all the
elite of Assyria. She
defiled herself with all the idols of those for whom she
lusted.
That they have
committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they
committed adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass for them through the fire, to
devour them.
For they have
committed adultery, and blood is on their hands. They have
committed adultery with their idols. They have even sacrificed their children, whom they bore to Me, in the fire as food for their idols.
Then said I unto her that was old in
adulteries, Will they now
commit whoredoms with her, and she with them?
Then I said of her who had grown old in
adulteries: ‘Now let them use her as a
prostitute, for that is all she is!’
And the righteous men, they shall judge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women that shed blood; because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.
But righteous men will sentence them to the punishment of those who
commit adultery and
bloodshed, because they are adulteresses with blood on their hands.
When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.
If I tell the righteous man that he will surely live, but he then trusts in his righteousness and commits iniquity, then none of his righteous works will be remembered; he will die because of the iniquity he has committed.
If the wicked restore the
pledge, give again that he had
robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without
committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.
if he restores a
pledge, makes
restitution for what he has
stolen, and walks in the statutes of life without practicing iniquity—then he will surely live; he will not die.
None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live.
None of the sins he has committed will be held against him. He has done what is just and right; he will surely live.
When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby.
If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he will die for it.
Ye stand upon your sword, ye work
abomination, and ye
defile every one his neighbour’s wife: and shall ye possess the land?
Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land most
desolate because of all their abominations which they have
committed.
Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I have made the land a
desolate waste because of all the abominations they have
committed.’
After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have
trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid.
They will
forget their disgrace and all the
treachery they
committed against Me, when they dwell securely in their land, with no one to
frighten them.
In their setting of their
threshold by my thresholds, and their post by my posts, and the wall between me and them, they have even
defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have
committed: wherefore I have consumed them in mine anger.
When they placed their
threshold next to My
threshold and their doorposts beside My doorposts, with only a wall between Me and them, they
defiled My holy name by the abominations they
committed. Therefore I have consumed them in My anger.
And they shall not come near unto me, to do the office of a priest unto me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, in the most holy place: but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed.
They must not approach Me to serve Me as priests or come near any of My holy things or the most holy things. They will bear the shame of the abominations they have committed.
We have
sinned, and have
committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
we have
sinned and done wrong. We have acted wickedly and rebelled. We have turned away from Your commandments and ordinances.
The beginning of the word of the LORD by
Hosea. And the LORD said to
Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath
committed great
whoredom, departing from the LORD.
For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall
commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take
heed to the LORD.
They will eat but not be satisfied; they will be
promiscuous but not multiply. For they have stopped obeying the LORD.
They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall
commit whoredom, and your spouses shall
commit adultery.
They sacrifice on the mountaintops and burn offerings on the hills, under oak,
poplar, and
terebinth, because their shade is pleasant. And so your daughters turn to
prostitution and your daughters-in-law to
adultery.
I will not
punish your daughters when they
commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they
commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that
doth not understand shall fall.
I will not
punish your daughters when they
prostitute themselves, nor your daughters-in-law when they
commit adultery. For the men themselves go off with prostitutes and offer sacrifices with
shrine prostitutes. So a people without understanding will come to ruin.
Their drink is
sour: they have
committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye.
I know Ephraim, and Israel is not
hid from me: for now, O Ephraim, thou
committest whoredom, and Israel is
defiled.
I know all about Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from Me. For now, O Ephraim, you have turned to
prostitution; Israel is
defiled.
And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they
commit lewdness.
Like raiders who lie in
ambush, so does a band of priests; they murder on the way to
Shechem; surely they have
committed atrocities.
When I would have
healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they
commit falsehood; and the
thief cometh in, and the
troop of robbers spoileth without.
When I
heal Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim will be exposed, as well as the crimes of Samaria. For they practice
deceit and
thieves break in;
bandits raid in the streets.
Judah hath dealt
treacherously, and an
abomination is
committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath
profaned the
holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
Judah has broken faith; an
abomination has been
committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has
profaned the LORD’s beloved sanctuary by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.
Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not
commit adultery:
You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not
commit adultery.’
