He took up also the
mantle of
Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
And he took the
mantle of
Elijah that fell from him, and
smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of
Elijah? and when he also had
smitten the waters, they parted
hither and thither: and
Elisha went over.
Then he took the
cloak of
Elijah that had
fallen from him and struck the waters. “Where now is the LORD, the God of
Elijah?” he asked. And when he had struck the waters, they parted to the right and to the left, and
Elisha crossed over.
And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did
swim.
“Where did it
fall?” asked the man of God. And when he showed him the place, the man of God cut a stick, threw it there, and made the iron
float.
If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.
If we say, ‘Let us go into the city,’ we will die there from the famine in the city; but if we sit here, we will also die. So come now, let us go over to the camp of the Arameans. If they let us live, we will live; if they kill us, we will die.”
So there went one on
horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And
Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the
watchman told, saying, The
messenger came to them, but he cometh not again.
So a
horseman rode off to meet
Jehu and said, “This is what the king asks: ‘Have you come in peace?’” “What do you know about peace?”
Jehu replied. “
Fall in behind me.” And the
watchman reported, “The
messenger reached them, but he is not coming back.”
Then he sent out a second on
horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And
Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.
So the king sent out a second
horseman, who went to them and said, “This is what the king asks: ‘Have you come in peace?’” “What do you know about peace?”
Jehu replied. “
Fall in behind me.”
Know now that there shall
fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the LORD, which the LORD spake concerning the house of
Ahab: for the LORD hath done that which he spake by his servant
Elijah.
Know, then, that not a word the LORD has spoken against the house of
Ahab will fail, for the LORD has done what He promised through His servant
Elijah.”
Now
Elisha was
fallen sick of his sickness
whereof he died. And
Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and
wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the
chariot of Israel, and the
horsemen thereof.
When
Elisha had
fallen sick with the illness from which he would die, Jehoash king of Israel came down to him and
wept over him, saying, “My father, my father, the
chariots and
horsemen of Israel!”
Thou hast indeed
smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory of this, and
tarry at home: for why shouldest thou
meddle to thy
hurt, that thou shouldest
fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
You have indeed defeated
Edom, and your heart has become proud. Glory in that and stay at home. Why should you
stir up trouble so that you
fall—you and Judah with you?”
Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Behold, I will put a spirit in him so that he will hear a
rumor and return to his own land, where I will cause him to
fall by the sword.’”
And it came to pass on the
morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons
fallen in mount
Gilboa.
The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons
fallen on Mount
Gilboa.
And there fell some of
Manasseh to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle: but they helped them not: for the lords of the Philistines upon
advisement sent him away, saying, He will
fall to his master Saul to the
jeopardy of our heads.
Some from
Manasseh defected to David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. (They did not help the Philistines because the
Philistine rulers consulted and sent David away, saying, “It will cost us our heads if he defects to his master Saul.”)
And David said unto
Gad, I am in a great strait: let me
fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his
mercies: but let me not
fall into the hand of man.
David answered
Gad, “I am deeply distressed. Please, let me
fall into the hand of the LORD, for His
mercies are very great; but do not let me
fall into the hands of men.”
And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have
sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father’s house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
And David said to God, “Was it not I who gave the order to count the people? I am the one who has
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? O LORD my God, please let Your hand
fall upon me and my father’s house, but do not let this plague remain upon Your people.”
And they
smote all the cities round about
Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they
spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much
spoil in them.

Gerar, because the terror of the LORD had
fallen upon them. They
plundered all the cities, since there was much
plunder there.
And the LORD said, Who shall
entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and
fall at
Ramoth-
gilead? And one spake saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.
And the LORD said, ‘Who will
entice Ahab king of Israel to march up and
fall at
Ramoth-
gilead?’ And one suggested this, and another that.
And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
When the men of Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked for the vast army, but there were only corpses lying on the ground; no one had escaped.
And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy
bowels, until thy
bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.
And day after day you
yourself will suffer from a severe illness, a disease of your
bowels, until it causes your
bowels to come out.’”
But if thou
wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall make thee
fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.
Even if you go and fight
bravely in battle, God will make you
stumble before the enemy, for God has power to help and power to overthrow.”
Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast
smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to
boast:
abide now at home; why shouldest thou
meddle to thine
hurt, that thou shouldest
fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
You have said, ‘Look, I have defeated
Edom,’ and your heart has become proud and
boastful. Now stay at home. Why should you
stir up trouble so that you
fall—you and Judah with you?”
Wherefore the wrath of the LORD was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he hath delivered them to trouble, to
astonishment, and to
hissing, as ye see with your eyes.
Therefore, the wrath of the LORD has
fallen upon Judah and Jerusalem, and He has made them an object of terror,
horror, and
mockery, as you can see with your own eyes.
For, lo, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this.
For behold, this is why our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and daughters and wives are in captivity.
Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be
diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?
Whatever is commanded by the God of heaven must be done
diligently for His house. For why should wrath
fall on the realm of the king and his sons?
Now when
Ezra had prayed, and when he had
confessed,
weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people
wept very
sore.
While
Ezra prayed and made this confession,
weeping and
falling facedown before the house of God, a very large assembly of Israelites—men, women, and children—gathered around him, and the people
wept bitterly as well.
And if the people of the land bring ware or any
victuals on the sabbath day to sell, that we would not
buy it of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day: and that we would leave the seventh year, and the
exaction of every debt.
When the people of the land bring
merchandise or any kind of grain to sell on the Sabbath day, we will not
buy from them on a Sabbath or holy day. Every seventh year we will let the fields lie
fallow, and will
cancel every debt.
And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.
When the evening shadows began to fall on the gates of Jerusalem, just before the Sabbath, I ordered that the gates be shut and not opened until after the Sabbath. I posted some of my servants at the gates so that no load could enter on the Sabbath day.
And
Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had
befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If
Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to
fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely
fall before him.
Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened. His advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, “Since
Mordecai, before whom your
downfall has begun, is Jewish, you will not prevail against him—for surely you will
fall before him.”
Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the
banquet of wine; and
Haman was
fallen upon the bed
whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered
Haman’s face.
Just as the king returned from the palace garden to the
banquet hall,
Haman was
falling on the
couch where
Esther was
reclining. The king
exclaimed, “Would he actually
assault the queen while I am in the palace?” As soon as the words had left the king’s mouth, they covered
Haman’s face.
And in every province, and in every city,
whithersoever the king’s commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and
gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell upon them.
In every province and every city, wherever the king’s edict and decree reached, there was joy and
gladness among the Jews, with feasting and
celebrating. And many of the people of the land themselves became Jews, because the fear of the Jews had
fallen upon them.
The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king
Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their
hurt: and no man could
withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.
In each of the provinces of King
Xerxes, the Jews assembled in their cities to attack those who sought to
harm them. No man could
withstand them, because the fear of them had
fallen upon all peoples.
And all the rulers of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the
deputies, and officers of the king, helped the Jews; because the fear of
Mordecai fell upon them.
And all the officials of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and the king’s administrators helped the Jews, because the fear of
Mordecai had
fallen upon them.
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
While he was still speaking, another
messenger came and reported: “The fire of God fell from heaven. It burned and consumed the sheep and the servants, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
In disquieting visions in the night, when deep sleep falls on men,
Would His majesty not
terrify you? Would the
dread of Him not
fall upon you?
And surely the mountain
falling cometh to
nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.
But as a mountain erodes and crumbles and a rock is
dislodged from its place,
Then let mine arm
fall from my shoulder
blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.
then may my arm
fall from my shoulder and be
torn from its
socket.
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
In a dream, in a vision in the night, when deep sleep
falls upon men as they
slumber on their beds,
For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.
For He says to the snow, ‘
Fall on the earth,’ and to the gentle rain, ‘Pour out a mighty
downpour.’
Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.
Declare them guilty, O God; let them fall by their own devices. Drive them out for their many transgressions, for they have rebelled against You.
He made a pit, and
digged it, and is
fallen into the
ditch which he made.
He has
dug a hole and hollowed it out; he has
fallen into a pit of his own making.
His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own
pate.
His trouble recoils on himself, and his violence falls on his own head.
When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.
When my enemies retreat, they
stumble and perish before You.
The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they
hid is their own foot taken.
The nations have fallen into a pit of their making; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.
He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.
They are
crushed and beaten down; the
hapless fall prey to his strength.
Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me
rejoice when I am moved.
lest my enemy say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes
rejoice when I
fall.
The lines are
fallen unto me in pleasant places;
yea, I have a goodly
heritage.
The lines of my boundary have fallen in pleasant places; surely my inheritance is delightful.
I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet.
I
crushed them so they could not rise; they have
fallen under my feet.
They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.
They
collapse and
fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath
hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him
fall.
May ruin
befall them by surprise; may the net they
hid ensnare them; may they
fall into the
hazard they created.
There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.
There the evildoers lie fallen, thrown down and unable to rise.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
Though he
falls, he will not be
overwhelmed, for the LORD is holding his hand.
For I am ready to
halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.
For I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever with me.
Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.
Your arrows
pierce the hearts of the king’s foes; the nations
fall beneath your feet.
My heart is
sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are
fallen upon me.
My heart murmurs within me, and the terrors of death
assail me.
For thou hast delivered my soul from death:
wilt not thou deliver my feet from
falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
For You have delivered my soul from death, and my feet from
stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.
They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down: they have
digged a pit before me, into the midst
whereof they are
fallen themselves.
Selah.
They spread a net for my feet; my soul was
despondent. They
dug a pit before me, but they themselves have
fallen into it!
Selah They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.
They will fall to the power of the sword; they will become a portion for foxes.
So they shall make their own tongue to
fall upon themselves: all that see them shall
flee away.
They will be made to
stumble, their own tongues turned against them. All who see will
shake their heads.
When the
Almighty scattered kings in it, it was white as snow in Salmon.
When the
Almighty scattered the kings in the land, it was like the snow
falling on Zalmon.
For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.
because zeal for Your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who
insult You have
fallen on me.
He shall come down like rain upon the
mown grass: as showers that water the earth.
May he be like rain that falls on freshly cut grass, like spring showers that water the earth.
Yea, all kings shall
fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.
May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him.
And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.
He felled them in the midst of their camp, all around their dwellings.
But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
But like mortals you will die, and like rulers you will fall.”
A thousand shall
fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come
nigh thee.
Though a thousand may
fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, no
harm will come near you.
I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I
hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not
cleave to me.
I will set no worthless thing before my eyes. I
hate the work of those who
fall away; it shall not
cling to me.
Egypt was
glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them.
Egypt was
glad when they departed, for the
dread of Israel had
fallen on them.
As he loved
cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.
The
cursing that he loved, may it
fall on him; the blessing in which he refused to delight, may it be far from him.
For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
For You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from
stumbling.
Thou hast thrust
sore at me that I might
fall: but the LORD helped me.
I was pushed so hard I was falling, but the LORD helped me.
As the
dew of
Hermon, and as the
dew that descended upon the mountains of
Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for
evermore.
It is like the
dew of
Hermon falling on the mountains of
Zion. For there the LORD has bestowed the blessing of life forevermore.
Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.
May burning coals
fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into the
miry pits, never to rise again.
Let the wicked
fall into their own nets, whilst that I
withal escape.
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.
The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.
The LORD upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.
For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
For they cannot sleep unless they do evil; they are deprived of
slumber until they make someone
fall.
Do this now, my son, deliver
thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble
thyself, and make sure thy friend.
The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a
prating fool shall
fall.
A wise heart will receive commandments, but
foolish lips will come to ruin.
He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a
prating fool shall
fall.
He who winks the eye causes grief, and
foolish lips will come to ruin.
The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
The righteousness of the
blameless directs their path, but the wicked
fall by their own wickedness.
Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
For lack of guidance, a nation
falls, but with many counselors comes
deliverance.
He that trusteth in his riches shall
fall: but the righteous shall
flourish as a branch.
He who trusts in his riches will
fall, but the righteous will
thrive like foliage.
A wicked
messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
Much food is in the
tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.
Abundant food is in the
fallow ground of the poor, but without justice it is swept away.
The king’s favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.
A king delights in a wise servant, but his anger falls on the shameful.
Pride goeth before destruction, and an
haughty spirit before a
fall.
Pride goes before destruction, and a
haughty spirit before a
fall.
He that hath a
froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a
perverse tongue
falleth into mischief.
The one with a
perverse heart finds no good, and he whose tongue is
deceitful falls into trouble.
The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is
abhorred of the LORD shall
fall therein.
The mouth of an
adulteress is a deep pit; he who is under the wrath of the LORD will
fall into it.
For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
For though a righteous man may
fall seven times, he still gets up; but the wicked
stumble in bad times.
Rejoice not when thine enemy
falleth, and let not thine heart be
glad when he stumbleth:
Do not
gloat when your enemy
falls, and do not let your heart
rejoice when he stumbles,
A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
Like a
muddied spring or a
polluted well is a righteous man who gives way to the wicked.
As a
thorn goeth up into the hand of a
drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
Whoso diggeth a pit shall
fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
He who digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him.
Whoso causeth the righteous to go
astray in an evil way, he shall
fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.
He who leads the upright along the path of evil will
fall into his own pit, but the
blameless will
inherit what is good.
Happy is the man that feareth
alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall
fall into mischief.
Blessed is the man who is always
reverent, but he who hardens his heart
falls into trouble.
Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is
perverse in his ways shall
fall at once.
When the wicked are multiplied,
transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their
fall.
When the wicked
thrive, rebellion increases; but the righteous will see their
downfall.
For if they
fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but
woe to him that is alone when he
falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
For if one
falls down, his companion can lift him up; but
pity the one who
falls without another to help him up!
For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the
snare; so are the sons of men
snared in an evil time, when it
falleth suddenly upon them.
For surely no man knows his time: Like fish caught in a cruel net or birds
trapped in a
snare, so men are ensnared in an evil time that suddenly
falls upon them.
He that diggeth a pit shall
fall into it; and
whoso breaketh an
hedge, a serpent shall
bite him.
He who digs a pit may
fall into it, and he who breaches a wall may be
bitten by a
snake.
