When they
fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an
oblation, I will not accept them: but I will
consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the
pestilence.
Although they may
fast, I will not
listen to their cry; although they may offer burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Instead, I will finish them off by sword and famine and plague.”

fasting, and in the hearing of the people you are to read the words of the LORD from the
scroll you have written at my
dictation. Read them in the hearing of all the people of Judah who are coming from their cities.

mourning.”

And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I
weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?
by asking the priests of the house of the LORD of Hosts, as well as the prophets, “Should I
weep and
fast in the fifth month, as I have done these many years?”
Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye
fasted and
mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all
fast unto me, even to me?
“Ask all the people of the land and the priests, ‘When you
fasted and
mourned in the fifth and seventh months for these seventy years, was it really for Me that you
fasted?

fast of the seventh, and the

gladness, and
cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.

fasts of the fourth, the fifth, the seventh, and the tenth months will become times of joy and
gladness,
cheerful feasts for the house of Judah. Therefore you are to love both truth and peace.”

Moreover when ye
fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a
sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to
fast.
Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
When you
fast, do not be
somber like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are
fasting. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
But thou, when thou
fastest,
anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
But when you
fast,
anoint your head and wash your face,
That thou appear not unto men to
fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which
seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
so that your fasting will not be obvious to men, but only to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will

fasting, lest they
faint in the way.

bridegroom fast while He is with them? As long as He is with them, they cannot
fast.

bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they
fast in those days.
But the time will come when the
bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will
fast.

fasting to their own houses, they will
faint by the way: for

fast twice in the week, I give
tithes of all that I possess.

tithes of all that I acquire.’

radiant clothing stood before me
Upon the which when I had
fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw
fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and
creeping things, and fowls of the air.
I looked at it closely and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds of the air.

Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

And while the day was coming on, Paul
besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the
fourteenth day that ye have
tarried and continued
fasting, having taken nothing.

Do not deprive each other, except by mutual consent and for a time, so you may
devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again, so that
Satan will not
tempt you through your lack of self-control.
Watch ye, stand
fast in the faith,
quit you like men, be strong.
Be on the
alert. Stand firm in the faith. Be men of courage. Be strong.
In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;
in beatings, imprisonments, and riots; in labor, sleepless nights, and hunger;
In
weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and
thirst, in
fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
in labor and
toil and often without sleep, in hunger and
thirst and often without food, in cold and exposure.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be
encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery.
Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand
fast in one spirit, with one mind
striving together for the faith of the gospel;
Nevertheless, conduct
yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit,
contending side by side for the faith of the gospel,
Therefore, my brethren
dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand
fast in the Lord, my
dearly beloved.
Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, that is how you must stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.
For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.
For now we can go on living, as long as you are standing firm in the Lord.
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
but test all things. Hold fast to what is good.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
Therefore, brothers, stand firm and
cling to the traditions we taught you, whether by speech or by letter.
Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching you have heard from me, with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
Holding
fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to
exhort and to
convince the gainsayers.
He must hold firmly to the faithful word as it was taught, so that he can
encourage others by sound teaching and
refute those who
contradict it.
But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold
fast the confidence and the
rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope of which we
boast.
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we
profess.
Let us hold
fast the profession of our faith without
wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where
Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest
fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein
Antipas was my faithful
martyr, who was slain among you, where
Satan dwelleth.
I know where you live, where the throne of
Satan sits. Yet you have held
fast to My name and have not denied your faith in Me, even in the day when My faithful witness
Antipas was killed among you, where
Satan dwells.
But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
Nevertheless, hold fast to what you have until I come.
Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold
fast, and
repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a
thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
Remember, then, what you have received and heard. Keep it and
repent. If you do not
wake up, I will come like a
thief, and you will not know the hour when I will come upon you.
Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
I am coming soon. Hold fast to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.
And
letting all those things go, do they not
gape, and even with open mouth fix their eyes
fast on her; and have not all men more desire unto her than unto silver or gold, or any goodly thing
whatsoever?
And there I
vowed a
fast unto the young men before our Lord, to desire of him a prosperous journey both for us and them that were with us, for our children, and for the cattle:
Then rising up from the fast with my clothes and the holy garment rent, and bowing my knees, and stretching forth my hands unto the Lord,
Mother, embrace thy children, and bring them up with
gladness, make their feet as
fast as a
pillar: for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord.
And bowing the heavens, thou
didst set
fast the earth, movedst the whole world, and madest the depths to
tremble, and troubledst the men of that age.
Then answered he me, and said, The more thou searchest, the more thou shalt
marvel; for the world hasteth
fast to pass away,
To
shew thee such
tokens I have leave; and if thou
wilt pray again, and
weep as now, and
fast even days, thou shalt hear yet greater things.
And so I
fasted seven days,
mourning and
weeping, like as Uriel the angel commanded me.
If thou
wilt pray yet more, and
fast seven days again, I shall tell thee greater things by day than I have heard.
And it came to pass after this, that I
wept again, and
fasted seven days in like manner, that I might fulfil the three weeks which he told me.
Nevertheless, if thou
wilt cease yet seven days more, (but thou shalt not
fast in them,
And I do now purpose not to return into the city, but here to stay, and neither to eat nor drink, but continually to
mourn and to
fast until I die.
Prayer is good with
fasting and
alms and righteousness. A little with righteousness is better than much with unrighteousness. It is better to give
alms than to lay up gold:

Judea and Jerusalem before the sanctuary of the Lord
Almighty.

brood of the ungodly shall not
thrive, nor take deep rooting from
bastard slips, nor lay any
fast foundation.
And when he had made a convenient room for it, set it in a wall, and made it fast with iron:
Wisdom raineth down skill and knowledge of understanding standing, and exalteth them to honour that hold her fast.
As a
nail sticketh
fast between the joinings of the stones; so
doth sin stick close between
buying and selling.
So is it with a man that
fasteth for his sins, and goeth again, and doeth the same: who will hear his prayer? or what
doth his humbling profit him?
Their seed standeth fast, and their children for their sakes.
And as the doors are made sure on every side upon him that offendeth the king, as being committed to suffer death: even so the priests make
fast their temples with doors, with locks, and bars, lest their gods be
spoiled with robbers.
So
Bel’s priests said, Lo, we go out: but thou, O king, set on the meat, and make ready the wine, and shut the door
fast and seal it with thine own
signet;
Who, when they saw the host coming to meet them, said unto
Judas, How shall we be able, being so few, to fight against so great a multitude and so strong, seeing we are ready to
faint with
fasting all this day?
Then they
fasted that day, and put on
sackcloth, and cast ashes upon their heads, and rent their clothes,
And upon the beasts were there strong towers of wood, which covered every one of them, and were
girt fast unto them with devices: there were also upon every one two and thirty strong men, that fought upon them, beside the Indian that ruled him.

fasts, or to
profess himself at all to be a
Jew.
And in the day of the king’s birth every month they were brought by bitter
constraint to eat of the sacrifices; and when the
fast of
Bacchus was kept, the Jews were compelled to go in
procession to
Bacchus, carrying
ivy.
