Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early
dew that passeth away, as the
chaff that is driven with the
whirlwind out of the
floor, and as the smoke out of the
chimney.
Therefore they will be like the morning
mist, like the early
dew that vanishes, like
chaff blown from a
threshing floor, like smoke through an open window.
Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall
spoil the
treasure of all pleasant vessels.
Although he
flourishes among his brothers, an east wind will come— a wind from the LORD rising up from the desert. His fountain will fail, and his spring will run dry. The wind will
plunder his treasury of every precious article.
Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green
fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.
O Ephraim, what have I to do anymore with idols? It is I who answer and watch over him. I am like a
flourishing cypress; your fruit comes from Me.
How do the beasts
groan! the herds of cattle are
perplexed, because they have no pasture;
yea, the
flocks of sheep are made
desolate.
How the cattle
groan! The herds
wander in confusion because they have no pasture. Even the
flocks of sheep are suffering.
And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with wine and oil.
The
threshing floors will be full of grain, and the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall
flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall
flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of
Shittim.
And in that day the mountains will
drip with sweet wine, and the hills will
flow with milk. All the streams of Judah will run with water, and a spring will
flow from the house of the LORD to water the Valley of
Acacias.
But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
But let justice roll on like a river, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the
flock, and the
calves out of the midst of the
stall;
You lie on beds inlaid with ivory, and
lounge upon your couches. You
dine on lambs from the
flock and
calves from the
stall.
And the LORD took me as I followed the
flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go,
prophesy unto my people Israel.
But the LORD took me from following the
flock and said to me, ‘Go,
prophesy to My people Israel.’
Shall not the land
tremble for this, and every one
mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a
flood; and it shall be cast out and
drowned, as by the
flood of Egypt.
Will not the land
quake for this, and all its dwellers
mourn? All of it will swell like the Nile; it will
surge and then
subside like the Nile in Egypt.
And the Lord GOD of hosts is he that toucheth the land, and it shall
melt, and all that dwell therein shall
mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a
flood; and shall be
drowned, as by the
flood of Egypt.
The Lord GOD of Hosts, He who touches the earth and it melts, and all its dwellers
mourn— all the land rises like the Nile, then sinks like the river of Egypt—
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the
plowman shall overtake the
reaper, and the
treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall
melt.
“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when the
plowman will overtake the
reaper and the
treader of grapes, the
sower of seed. The mountains will
drip with sweet wine, with which all the hills will
flow.
For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current
swirled about me; all Your breakers and waves swept over me.
And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through
Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast,
herd nor
flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
Then he issued a
proclamation in
Nineveh: “By the decree of the king and his nobles: Let no man or beast,
herd or
flock, taste anything at all. They must not eat or drink.
I will surely
assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the
remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of
Bozrah, as the
flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.
I will surely gather all of you, O Jacob; I will collect the
remnant of Israel. I will bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a
flock in the midst of its pasture— a
noisy throng.
But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be
exalted above the hills; and people shall
flow unto it.
In the last days the mountain of the house of the LORD will be established as the chief of the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and the peoples will stream to it.
And thou, O tower of the
flock, the strong hold of the daughter of
Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem.
And you, O
watchtower of the
flock, O
stronghold of the Daughter of
Zion— the former dominion will be restored to you; sovereignty will come to the Daughter of Jerusalem.”
But they know not the thoughts of the LORD, neither understand they his counsel: for he shall gather them as the
sheaves into the
floor.
But they do not know the thoughts of the LORD or understand His plan, for He has gathered them like
sheaves to the
threshing floor.
And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall
abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
He will stand and
shepherd His
flock in the strength of the LORD, in the
majestic name of the LORD His God. And they will dwell securely, for then His greatness will extend to the ends of the earth.
And the
remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the
flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
Then the
remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among
flocks of sheep, which tramples and tears as it passes through, with no one to
rescue them.
Shepherd with Your staff Your people, the
flock of Your inheritance. They live alone in a
woodland, surrounded by pastures. Let them
graze in
Bashan and
Gilead, as in the days of old.
He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers:
Bashan languisheth, and
Carmel, and the
flower of
Lebanon languisheth.
He rebukes the sea and dries it up; He makes all the rivers run dry.
Bashan and
Carmel wither, and the
flower of
Lebanon wilts.
But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
But with an
overwhelming flood He will make an end of
Nineveh and pursue His enemies into darkness.
Although the fig tree shall not
blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the
flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no
herd in the stalls:
Though the fig tree does not
bud and no fruit is on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though the sheep are cut off from the fold and no cattle are in the stalls,
And the sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for
shepherds, and folds for
flocks.
So the
seacoast will become a land of pastures, with wells for
shepherds and folds for sheep.
And
flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the
cormorant and the
bittern shall
lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows;
desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the
cedar work.
And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the
flock of his people: for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as an
ensign upon his land.
On that day the LORD their God will save them as the
flock of His people; for like jewels in a crown they will
sparkle over His land.
For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall make the young men
cheerful, and new wine the maids.
How lovely they will be, and how beautiful! Grain will make the young men
flourish, and new wine, the young women.
For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a
flock, they were troubled, because there was no
shepherd.
For idols speak
deceit and diviners see illusions; they tell false dreams and offer empty comfort. Therefore the people
wander like sheep,
oppressed for lack of a
shepherd.
Mine anger was
kindled against the
shepherds, and I punished the goats: for the LORD of hosts hath visited his
flock the house of Judah, and hath made them as his goodly horse in the battle.
“My anger burns against the
shepherds, and I will
punish the leaders. For the LORD of Hosts attends to His
flock, the house of Judah; He will make them like His royal
steed in battle.
Thus saith the LORD my God; Feed the flock of the slaughter;
This is what the LORD my God says: “Pasture the flock marked for slaughter,
And I will feed the
flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the
flock. And I took unto me two
staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the
flock.
So I pastured the
flock marked for slaughter, especially the
afflicted of the
flock. Then I took for myself two staffs, calling one Favor and the other Union, and I pastured the
flock.
And in one month I dismissed three
shepherds. My soul grew impatient with the
flock, and their souls also
detested me.
And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD.
It was
revoked on that day, and so the
afflicted of the
flock who were watching me knew that it was the word of the LORD.
Woe to the
idol shepherd that leaveth the
flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly
darkened.
Woe to the worthless
shepherd, who deserts the
flock! May a sword strike his arm and his right eye! May his arm be completely
withered and his right eye utterly blinded!”
And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
And on that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it toward the Eastern Sea and the other half toward the Western Sea, in summer and winter alike.
But
cursed be the
deceiver, which hath in his
flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the LORD a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is
dreadful among the heathen.
“But
cursed is the
deceiver who has an acceptable male in his
flock and vows to give it, but sacrifices a defective animal to the Lord. For I am a great King,” says the LORD of Hosts, “and My name is to be feared among the nations.
Whose
fan is in his hand, and he will throughly
purge his
floor, and gather his wheat into the
garner; but he will burn up the
chaff with
unquenchable fire.
And the rain descended, and the
floods came, and the winds
blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
The rain fell, the torrents
raged, and the winds
blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock.
And the rain descended, and the
floods came, and the winds
blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
The rain fell, the torrents
raged, and the winds
blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its
collapse!”
But
beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will
scourge you in their synagogues;
But
beware of men; for they will hand you over to their councils and
flog you in their synagogues.
Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto
leaven, which a woman took, and
hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was
leavened.
He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like
leaven that a woman took and mixed into three measures of
flour, until all of it was
leavened.”
And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to
mock, and to
scourge, and to
crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.
and will deliver Him over to the Gentiles to be
mocked and
flogged and
crucified. And on the third day He will be raised to life.”
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and
scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and
crucify; and some of them shall ye
scourge in your synagogues, and
persecute them from city to city:
Because of this, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and
crucify, and others you will
flog in your synagogues and
persecute in town after town.
For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
For in the days before the
flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day
Noah entered the ark.
And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
And they were
oblivious, until the
flood came and swept them all away. So will it be at the coming of the Son of Man.
Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be
offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will
smite the
shepherd, and the sheep of the
flock shall be scattered abroad.
Then Jesus said to them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of Me. For it is written: ‘I will strike the
Shepherd, and the sheep of the
flock will be scattered.’
Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had
scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be
crucified.
And they shall
mock him, and shall
scourge him, and shall
spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
who will
mock Him and
spit on Him and
flog Him and kill Him. And after three days He will rise again.”
And so
Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had
scourged him, to be
crucified.
And wishing to satisfy the crowd,
Pilate released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus
flogged, and handed Him over to be
crucified.
And there were in the same country
shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their
flock by night.
And there were
shepherds residing in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their
flocks by night.
Whose
fan is in his hand, and he will throughly
purge his
floor, and will gather the wheat into his
garner; but the
chaff he will burn with fire
unquenchable.
He is like a man which built an house, and
digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the
flood arose, the stream beat
vehemently upon that house, and could not
shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
He is like a man building a house, who
dug down deep and laid his foundation on the rock. When the
flood came, the
torrent crashed against that house but could not
shake it, because it was well built.
Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom.
It is like
leaven, which a woman took and
hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was
leavened.
It is like
leaven that a woman took and mixed into three measures of
flour, until all of it was
leavened.”
They did eat, they
drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the
flood came, and destroyed them all.
People were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, up to the day
Noah entered the ark. Then the
flood came and destroyed them all.
And they shall
scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
They will
flog Him and kill Him, and on the third day He will rise again.”
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his
belly shall
flow rivers of living water.
Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said: ‘Streams of living water will
flow from within him.’”
But he that is an
hireling, and not the
shepherd, whose own the sheep are not,
seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
The
hired hand is not the
shepherd, and the sheep are not his own. When he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf pounces on them and scatters the
flock.
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one
shepherd.
I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them in as well, and they will
listen to My voice. Then there will be one
flock and one
shepherd.
But one of the soldiers with a
spear pierced his side, and
forthwith came there out blood and water.
Instead, one of the soldiers pierced His side with a
spear, and immediately blood and water
flowed out.
And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
At this, they yielded to
Gamaliel. They called the apostles in and had them
flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and released them.
Take
heed therefore unto
yourselves, and to all the
flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
Keep watch over
yourselves and the entire
flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be
shepherds of the church of God, which He purchased with His own blood.
For I know this, that after my departing shall
grievous wolves enter in among you, not
sparing the
flock.
I know that after my departure, savage
wolves will come in among you and will not
spare the
flock.
The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and
bade that he should be examined by
scourging; that he might know wherefore they
cried so against him.
the commander ordered that Paul be brought into the
barracks. He directed that Paul be
flogged and
interrogated to determine the reason for this outcry against him.
And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the
centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to
scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?
But as they stretched him out to
strap him down, Paul said to the
centurion standing there, “Is it lawful for you to
flog a Roman citizen without a trial?”
But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
However, if someone thinks he is acting inappropriately toward his
betrothed, and if she is beyond her youth and they ought to marry, let him do as he wishes; he is not
sinning; they should get married.
Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a
vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a
flock, and eateth not of the milk of the
flock?
Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a
vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Who tends a
flock and does not drink of its milk?
But I
rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath
flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.
Now I
rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have revived your
concern for me. You were indeed concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it.
And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings,
yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
But the one who is rich should
exult in his low position, because he will pass away like a
flower of the field.
For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the
flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man
fade away in his ways.
For the sun rises with
scorching heat and
withers the plant; its
flower falls and its beauty is lost. So too, the rich man will
fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
For, “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the
flowers of the field; the grass
withers and the
flowers fall,
Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of
riot, speaking evil of you:
Feed the
flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by
constraint, but willingly; not for
filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
Be
shepherds of God’s
flock that is among you, watching over them not out of
compulsion, but because it is God’s will; not out of
greed, but out of eagerness;
Neither as being lords over God’s
heritage, but being ensamples to the
flock.
not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.
And
spared not the old world, but saved
Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the
flood upon the world of the ungodly;
if He did not
spare the ancient world when He brought the
flood on its ungodly people, but preserved
Noah, a preacher of righteousness, among the eight;
Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
through which the world of that time perished in the flood.
And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
Then from the mouth of the serpent
spewed water like a river to overtake the woman and
sweep her away in the
torrent.
And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and
swallowed up the
flood which the
dragon cast out of his mouth.
But the earth helped the woman and opened its mouth to
swallow up the river that had poured from the
dragon’s mouth.
And the winepress was
trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.
And the winepress was
trodden outside the city, and the blood that
flowed from it rose as high as the bridles of the horses for a distance of 1,600
stadia.
And
cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and
frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine
flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and
chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
of
cinnamon,
spice, incense,
myrrh, and
frankincense; of wine, olive oil, fine
flour, and wheat; of cattle, sheep, horses, and
chariots; of slaves and souls of men.
And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb
Unto them of Zidon also and Tyre they gave carrs, that they should bring
cedar trees from Libanus, which should be brought by
floats to the
haven of
Joppa, according as it was commanded them by Cyrus king of the Persians.
When ye were
thirsty, did I not
cleave the rock, and waters
flowed out to your fill? for the heat I covered you with the leaves of the trees.
And as many fountains
flowing with milk and honey, and seven mighty mountains,
whereupon there grow roses and
lilies, whereby I will fill thy children with joy.
And again in process of time thou broughtest the flood upon those that dwelt in the world, and destroyedst them.
And it came to pass in every of them, that as death was to Adam, so was the flood to these.
And yet their reward appeareth not, and their labour hath no fruit: for I have gone here and there through the heathen, and I see that they flow in wealth, and think not upon thy commandments.
The
floods of the sea also in like manner took counsel, and said, Come, let us go up and
subdue the woods of the plain, that there also we may make us another country.
The thought of the
floods of the sea came likewise to
nought, for the sand stood up and stopped them.
I answered and said,
Verily it is a
foolish thought that they both have devised, for the ground is given unto the wood, and the sea also hath his place to bear his
floods.
For like as the ground is given unto the wood, and the sea to his floods: even so they that dwell upon the earth may understand nothing but that which is upon the earth: and he that dwelleth above the heavens may only understand the things that are above the height of the heavens.
And when the ears shall be cut down, which are without number, how great a floor shall they fill?
Did not the souls also of the righteous ask question of these things in their chambers, saying, How long shall I hope on this fashion? when cometh the fruit of the floor of our reward?
And for our sakes
peradventure it is that the
floors of the righteous are not filled, because of the sins of them that dwell upon the earth.
Up then, and eat bread, and
forsake us not, as the
shepherd that leaveth his
flock in the hands of cruel
wolves.
And of all lands of the whole world thou hast chosen thee one pit: and of all the
flowers thereof one
lily:
