And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did
bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
But Lot insisted so strongly that they
followed him into his house. He prepared a feast for them and
baked unleavened bread, and they
ate.
And the servant said unto him,
Peradventure the woman will not be willing to
follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?
The servant asked him, “What if the woman is unwilling to follow me to this land? Shall I then take your son back to the land from which you came?”
And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.
And if the woman is unwilling to follow you, then you are released from this oath of mine. Only do not take my son back there.”
And I said unto my master,
Peradventure the woman will not
follow me.
Then I asked my master, ‘What if the woman will not come back with me?’
And
Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they
rode upon the camels, and
followed the man: and the servant took
Rebekah, and went his way.
Then
Rebekah and her servant girls got ready, mounted the camels, and
followed the man. So the servant took
Rebekah and left.
And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that
followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto
Esau, when ye find him.
He also
instructed the second, the third, and all those
following behind the herds: “When you meet
Esau, you are to say the same thing to him.
And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the
plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall
consume the land;
but seven years of famine will
follow them. Then all the abundance in the land of Egypt will be forgotten, and the famine will
devastate the land.
And the
plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine
following; for it shall be very
grievous.
The abundance in the land will not be remembered, since the famine that follows it will be so severe.
And when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his
steward, Up,
follow after the men; and when thou
dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good?
They had not gone far from the city when Joseph told his
steward, “Pursue the men at once, and when you overtake them, ask, ‘Why have you repaid good with evil?
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto thy brethren, This do ye;
lade your beasts, and go, get you unto the land of
Canaan;
Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Tell your brothers, ‘Do as
follows: Load your animals and return to the land of
Canaan.
And to his father he sent after this manner; ten
asses laden with the good things of Egypt, and ten she
asses laden with corn and bread and meat for his father by the way.
And he sent to his father the
following: ten
donkeys loaded with the best of Egypt, and ten female
donkeys loaded with grain and bread and provisions for his father’s journey.
And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me, saying, Get thee out, and all the people that follow thee: and after that I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in a great anger.
And all these officials of yours will come and bow before me, saying, ‘Go, you and all the people who follow you!’ After that, I will depart.” And hot with anger, Moses left Pharaoh’s presence.
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart, that he shall
follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.
And I will
harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he will pursue them. But I will gain honor by means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.” So this is what the Israelites did.
And I, behold, I will
harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall
follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his
chariots, and upon his
horsemen.
And I will
harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. Then I will gain honor by means of Pharaoh and all his army and
chariots and
horsemen.
And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh’s horses, his
chariots, and his
horsemen.
And the Egyptians
chased after them—all Pharaoh’s horses,
chariots, and
horsemen—and
followed them into the sea.
Then
Miriam the
prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took a
tambourine in her hand, and all the women
followed her with tambourines and dancing.
Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. Each day the people are to go out and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test whether or not they will follow My instructions.
If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to
endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.
If you
follow this advice and God so directs you, then you will be able to
endure, and all these people can go home in peace.”
If men
strive, and
hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief
follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
If men who are fighting strike a
pregnant woman and her child is born
prematurely, but there is no further injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman’s husband demands and as the court allows.
And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
But if a serious injury results, then you must require a life for a life—
Thou shalt not
follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to
wrest judgment:
Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.
You must not bow down to their gods or serve them or
follow their practices. Instead, you are to
demolish them and
smash their sacred stones to pieces.
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them:
“Tell the Israelites to do as
follows with one who sins
unintentionally against any of the LORD’s commandments and does what is forbidden by them:
Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that
chew the
cud, or of them that divide the
hoof: as the
camel, because he cheweth the
cud, but divideth not the
hoof; he is unclean unto you.
But of those that only
chew the
cud or only have a divided
hoof, you are not to eat the
following: The
camel, though it chews the
cud, does not have a divided
hoof; it is unclean for you.
And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an
abomination unto you:
But the
following among all the
teeming life and creatures in the water are
detestable to you: everything in the seas or streams that does not have fins and scales.
Yet these may ye eat of every flying
creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to
leap withal upon the earth;
However, you may eat the
following kinds of flying insects that walk on all fours: those having jointed legs above their feet for
hopping on the ground.
The
following creatures that move along the ground are unclean for you: the
mole, the
mouse, any kind of great
lizard,
After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of
Canaan,
whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.
You must not
follow the practices of the land of Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not
follow the practices of the land of
Canaan, into which I am bringing you. You must not walk in their customs.
Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am the LORD.
You must keep all My statutes and all My ordinances and follow them. I am the LORD.”
Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go a
whoring after him, to commit
whoredom with
Molech, from among their people.
then I will set My face against that man and his family and cut off from among their people both him and all who
follow him in
prostituting themselves with
Molech.
And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I
abhorred them.
You must not
follow the statutes of the nations I am driving out before you. Because they did all these things, I
abhorred them.
It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall
afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye
celebrate your sabbath.
It will be a Sabbath of complete rest for you, and you shall humble
yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the
following evening you are to keep your Sabbath.”
If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;
If you follow My statutes and carefully keep My commandments,
But my servant
Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath
followed me fully, him will I bring into the land
whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
But because My servant
Caleb has a different spirit and has
followed Me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he has entered, and his descendants will
inherit it.
And it shall be unto you for a
fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a
whoring:
These will serve as tassels for you to look at, so that you may remember all the commandments of the LORD, that you may obey them and not
prostitute yourselves by
following your own heart and your own eyes.
And he spake unto
Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to
morrow the LORD will
shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.
Then he said to
Korah and all his
followers, “
Tomorrow morning the LORD will
reveal who belongs to Him and who is holy, and He will bring that person near to Himself. The one He chooses, He will bring near to Himself.
This do; Take you censers,
Korah, and all his company;
You,
Korah, and all your
followers are to do as
follows: Take censers,
For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that ye
murmur against him?
Therefore, it is you and all your
followers who have
conspired against the LORD! As for Aaron, who is he that you should
grumble against him?”
And Moses said unto
Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the LORD, thou, and they, and Aaron, to
morrow:
And Moses said to
Korah, “You and all your
followers are to appear before the LORD
tomorrow—you and they and Aaron.
And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and
Abiram; and the elders of Israel
followed him.
So Moses got up and went to Dathan and
Abiram, and the elders of Israel
followed him.
To be a
memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as
Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.
just as the LORD commanded him through Moses. This was to be a reminder to the Israelites that no outsider who is not a
descendant of Aaron should approach to offer incense before the LORD, lest he become like
Korah and his
followers.
And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her
belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
followed the
Israelite into his tent, and drove the
spear through both of them—through the
Israelite and on through the
belly of the woman. So the plague against the Israelites was
halted,
And the sons of Eliab; Nemuel, and Dathan, and
Abiram. This is that Dathan and
Abiram, which were famous in the congregation, who
strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of
Korah, when they
strove against the LORD:
and the sons of Eliab were Nemuel, Dathan, and
Abiram. It was Dathan and
Abiram, chosen by the congregation, who fought against Moses and Aaron with the
followers of
Korah who rebelled against the LORD.
And the earth opened her mouth, and
swallowed them up together with
Korah, when that company died, what time the fire
devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a sign.
And the earth opened its mouth and
swallowed them along with
Korah, whose
followers died when the fire consumed 250 men. They serve as a
warning sign.
Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of
Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.
“Our father died in the wilderness, but he was not among the
followers of
Korah who gathered together against the LORD. Instead, he died because of his own sin, and he had no sons.
Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I
sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly
followed me:
‘Because they did not
follow Me wholeheartedly, not one of the men twenty years of age or older who came out of Egypt will see the land that I
swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—
Save
Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of
Nun: for they have wholly
followed the LORD.
not one except
Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of
Nun—because they did
follow the LORD wholeheartedly.’
For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.
For if you turn away from following Him, He will once again leave this people in the wilderness, and you will be the cause of their destruction.”
And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.
Then all of you approached me and said, “Let us send men
ahead of us to search out the land and bring us word of what route to
follow and which cities to enter.”
Save
Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath
trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly
followed the LORD.
except
Caleb son of Jephunneh. He will see it, and I will give him and his descendants the land on which he has set foot, because he
followed the LORD wholeheartedly.”
Now therefore
hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.
Hear now, O Israel, the statutes and ordinances I am teaching you to follow, so that you may live and may enter and take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you.
Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of
Baal-peor: for all the men that
followed Baal-peor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you.
Your eyes have seen what the LORD did at
Baal-peor, for the LORD your God destroyed from among you all who
followed Baal of Peor.
Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land
whither ye go to possess it.
See, I have taught you statutes and ordinances just as the LORD my God has commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land that you are about to enter and possess.
And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.
He declared to you His covenant, which He commanded you to follow—the Ten Commandments that He wrote on two tablets of stone.
And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land
whither ye go over to possess it.
At that time the LORD commanded me to teach you the statutes and ordinances you are to follow in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess.
But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.
But you stand here with Me, that I may speak to you all the commandments and statutes and ordinances you are to teach them to follow in the land that I am giving them to possess.”
Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land
whither ye go to possess it:
These are the commandments and statutes and ordinances that the LORD your God has
instructed me to teach you to
follow in the land that you are about to enter and possess,
Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;
Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you.
For they will turn away thy son from
following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be
kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
because they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods. Then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and He will swiftly destroy you.
Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.
So keep the commandments and statutes and ordinances that I am giving you to follow this day.
All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD
sware unto your fathers.
You must carefully
follow every commandment I am giving you
today, so that you may live and multiply, and enter and possess the land that the LORD
swore to give your fathers.
For if ye shall
diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to
cleave unto him;
For if you carefully keep all these commandments I am giving you to follow—to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him—
And a
curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.
but a
curse if you disobey the commandments of the LORD your God and turn aside from the path I command you
today by
following other gods, which you have not known.
And ye shall observe to do all the statutes and judgments which I set before you this day.
be careful to
follow all the statutes and ordinances that I am setting before you
today.
These are the statutes and judgments, which ye shall observe to do in the land, which the LORD God of thy fathers giveth thee to possess it, all the days that ye live upon the earth.
These are the statutes and ordinances you must be careful to follow all the days you live in the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you to possess.
Take
heed to
thyself that thou be not
snared by
following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou
enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
be careful not to be ensnared by their ways after they have been destroyed before you. Do not inquire about their gods, asking, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.”
And the sign or the wonder come to pass,
whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
and if the sign or wonder he has spoken to you comes about, but he says, “Let us follow other gods (which you have not known) and let us worship them,”
Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and
cleave unto him.
You are to
follow the LORD your God and fear Him. Keep His commandments and
listen to His voice; serve Him and hold fast to Him.
Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that
chew the
cud, or of them that divide the
cloven hoof; as the
camel, and the
hare, and the
coney: for they
chew the
cud, but divide not the
hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you.
But of those that
chew the
cud or have a completely divided
hoof, you are not to eat the
following: the
camel, the
rabbit, or the rock
badger.
Only if thou carefully
hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all these commandments which I command thee this day.
if only you obey the LORD your God and are careful to
follow all these commandments I am giving you
today.
And thou shalt remember that thou
wast a
bondman in Egypt: and thou shalt observe and do these statutes.
Remember that you were slaves in Egypt, and carefully follow these statutes.
That which is altogether just shalt thou
follow, that thou mayest live, and
inherit the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Pursue justice, and justice alone, so that you may live, and you may possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing
follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it
presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD and the message does not come to pass or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken
presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; even a
freewill offering, according as thou hast
vowed unto the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth.
Be careful to
follow through on what comes from your lips, because you have freely
vowed to the LORD your God with your own mouth.
Take
heed in the plague of
leprosy, that thou observe
diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do.
This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
The LORD your God commands you this day to follow these statutes and ordinances. You must be careful to follow them with all your heart and with all your soul.
Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the LORD thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.
You shall therefore obey the voice of the LORD your God and
follow His commandments and statutes I am giving you
today.”
And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt
hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
“Now if you faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God and are careful to
follow all His commandments I am giving you
today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.
And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou
hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:
The LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you will only move upward and never
downward, if you hear and carefully
follow the commandments of the LORD your God, which I am giving you
today.
But it shall come to pass, if thou
wilt not
hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
If, however, you do not obey the LORD your God by carefully
following all His commandments and statutes I am giving you
today, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:
Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may
prosper in all that ye do.
So keep and
follow the words of this covenant, that you may
prosper in all you do.
So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it;
Then the generation to come—your sons who follow you and the foreigner who comes from a distant land—will see the plagues of the land and the sicknesses the LORD has inflicted on it.
The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children
forever, so that we may
follow all the words of this law.
And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day.
And you will again obey the voice of the LORD and
follow all His commandments I am giving you
today.
Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:
Assemble the people—men, women, children, and the foreigners within your gates—so that they may
listen and learn to fear the LORD your God and to
follow carefully all the words of this law.
And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I
testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.
he said to them, “Take to heart all these words I
testify among you
today, so that you may command your children to carefully
follow all the words of this law.
And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.
and commanded the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God being carried by the
Levitical priests, you are to set out from your positions and
follow it.
And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven
trumpets of rams’ horns passed on before the LORD, and
blew with the
trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD
followed them.
After Joshua had spoken to the people, seven priests carrying seven rams’ horns before the LORD advanced and
blew the horns, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD
followed them.
And the armed men went before the priests that
blew with the
trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the
trumpets.
While the horns continued to sound, the armed troops marched
ahead of the priests who
blew the horns, and the rear guard
followed the ark.
And seven priests bearing seven
trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and
blew with the
trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on, and blowing with the
trumpets.
And the seven priests carrying seven rams’ horns kept marching
ahead of the ark of the LORD and blowing the horns. The armed troops went in front of them and the rear guard
followed the ark of the LORD, while the horns kept sounding.
And all the people that were in
Ai were called together to pursue after them: and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
Then all the men of
Ai were summoned to pursue them, and they
followed Joshua and were drawn away from the city.
Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people
melt: but I wholly
followed the LORD my God.
Although my brothers who went with me made the hearts of the people
melt with fear, I remained
loyal to the LORD my God.
And Moses
sware on that day, saying, Surely the land
whereon thy feet have
trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children’s for ever, because thou hast wholly
followed the LORD my God.
On that day Moses
swore to me, saying, ‘Surely the land on which you have set foot will be an inheritance to you and your children
forever, because you have wholly
followed the LORD my God.’
Hebron therefore became the inheritance of
Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly
followed the LORD God of Israel.
Therefore
Hebron belongs to
Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite as an inheritance to this day, because he wholly
followed the LORD, the God of Israel.
Thus saith the whole congregation of the LORD, What
trespass is this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from
following the LORD, in that ye have builded you an altar, that ye might
rebel this day against the LORD?
“This is what the whole congregation of the LORD says: ‘What is this breach of faith you have committed
today against the God of Israel by turning away from the LORD and building for
yourselves an altar, that you might
rebel against the LORD this day?
But that ye must turn away this day from
following the LORD? and it will be, seeing ye
rebel to day against the LORD, that to
morrow he will be
wroth with the whole congregation of Israel.
And now, would you turn away from the LORD? If you
rebel today against the LORD,
tomorrow He will be
angry with the whole congregation of Israel.
That we have built us an altar to turn from
following the LORD, or if to offer
thereon burnt offering or meat offering, or if to offer peace offerings
thereon, let the LORD himself require it;
If we have built for ourselves an altar to turn away from Him and to offer burnt offerings and grain offerings on it, or to sacrifice
fellowship offerings on it, may the LORD Himself hold us accountable.
God
forbid that we should
rebel against the LORD, and turn this day from
following the LORD, to build an altar for burnt offerings, for meat offerings, or for sacrifices, beside the altar of the LORD our God that is before his tabernacle.
Far be it from us to
rebel against the LORD and turn away from Him
today by building an altar for burnt offerings, grain offerings, or sacrifices, other than the altar of the LORD our God, which stands before His tabernacle.”
And they
forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and
followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and
provoked the LORD to anger.
Thus they
forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and they
followed after various gods of the peoples around them. They bowed down to them and
provoked the LORD to anger,
