The LORD
forbid that I should stretch forth mine
hand against the LORD’S
anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the
spear that is at his
bolster, and the
cruse of water, and let us go.
But the LORD
forbid that I should stretch out my
hand against the LORD’s
anointed. Instead, take the
spear and water
jug by his head, and let us go.”
And he said, Wherefore
doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine
hand?
And he continued, “Why is my lord pursuing his servant? What have I done? What evil is in my hand?
The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the LORD delivered thee into my
hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine
hand against the LORD’S
anointed.
May the LORD repay every man for his righteousness and faithfulness. For the LORD delivered you into my
hand today, but I would not stretch out my
hand against the LORD’s
anointed.
And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the
hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall
despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his
hand.
David, however, said to himself, “One of these days now I will be swept away by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will stop searching for me all over Israel, and I will slip out of his hand.”
And the LORD hath done to him, as he spake by me: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:
He has done exactly what He spoke through me: The LORD has
torn the
kingship out of your
hand and given it to your
neighbor David.
Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the
hand of the Philistines: and to
morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the
hand of the Philistines.
Moreover, the LORD will deliver Israel with you into the
hand of the Philistines, and
tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. And the LORD will deliver the army of Israel into the
hand of the Philistines.”
And the woman came unto Saul, and saw that he was
sore troubled, and said unto him, Behold, thine
handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my
hand, and have
hearkened unto thy words which thou spakest unto me.
When the woman came to Saul and saw how
distraught he was, she said to him, “Look, your
maidservant has obeyed your voice. I took my life in my
hands and did as you told me.
Now therefore, I pray thee,
hearken thou also unto the voice of thine
handmaid, and let me set a
morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.
Now please
listen to your servant and let me set a
morsel of bread before you so you may eat and have the strength to go on your way.”
And David said to him, Canst thou bring me down to this company? And he said,
Swear unto me by God, that thou
wilt neither kill me, nor deliver me into the
hands of my master, and I will bring thee down to this company.
“Will you lead me to these raiders?” David asked. And the man replied, “
Swear to me by God that you will not kill me or deliver me into the
hand of my master, and I will lead you to them.”
Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand.
But David said, “My brothers, you must not do this with what the LORD has given us. He has protected us and delivered into our hands the raiders who came against us.
And David said unto him, How
wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine
hand to destroy the LORD’S
anointed?
So David asked him, “Why were you not afraid to lift your
hand to destroy the LORD’s
anointed?”
Therefore now let your
hands be strengthened, and be ye
valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have
anointed me king over them.
Now then, be strong and
courageous, for though Saul your lord is dead, the house of Judah has
anointed me as their king.”
And
Asahel pursued after
Abner; and in going he turned not to the right
hand nor to the left from following
Abner.
and he
chased Abner, not turning to the right or to the left in his pursuit.
And
Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right
hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But
Asahel would not turn aside from following of him.
Then was
Abner very
wroth for the words of
Ish-bosheth, and said, Am I a dog’s head, which against Judah do
shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the
hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman?
Abner was
furious over
Ish-bosheth’s
accusation. “Am I the head of a dog that belongs to Judah?” he asked. “All this time I have been
loyal to the house of your father Saul, to his brothers, and to his friends. I have not delivered you into the
hand of David, but now you
accuse me of
wrongdoing with this woman!
And
Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make thy league with me, and, behold, my
hand shall be with thee, to bring about all Israel unto thee.
Then
Abner sent messengers in his place to say to David, “To whom does the land belong? Make your covenant with me, and surely my
hand will be with you to bring all Israel over to you.”
Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.
Now take action, because the LORD has said to David, ‘Through My servant David I will save My people Israel from the hands of the Philistines and of all their enemies.’”
Thy
hands were not bound, nor thy feet put into
fetters: as a man falleth before wicked men, so fellest thou. And all the people
wept again over him.
Your
hands were not bound, your feet were not
fettered. As a man falls before the wicked, so also you fell.” And all the people
wept over him even more.
And when Saul’s son heard that
Abner was dead in
Hebron, his
hands were feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.
Now when
Ish-bosheth son of Saul heard that
Abner had died in
Hebron, he lost courage, and all Israel was dismayed.
How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?
How much more, when wicked men kill a righteous man in his own house and on his own bed, shall I not now require his blood from your hands and remove you from the earth!”
And David commanded his young men, and they
slew them, and cut off their
hands and their feet, and
hanged them up over the
pool in
Hebron. But they took the head of
Ish-bosheth, and buried it in the
sepulchre of
Abner in
Hebron.
So David commanded his young men, and they killed Rechab and Baanah. They cut off their
hands and feet and hung their bodies by the
pool in
Hebron, but they took the head of
Ish-bosheth and buried it in
Abner’s tomb in
Hebron.
And David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines?
wilt thou deliver them into mine
hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine
hand.
So David inquired of the LORD, “Should I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” “Go,” replied the LORD, “for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hand.”
And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his
hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen
shook it.
When they came to the
threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen had
stumbled.
Then David returned to
bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel
today, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the
handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows
shamelessly uncovereth himself!
As soon as David returned home to
bless his own household, Saul’s daughter Michal came out to meet him. “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself
today!” she said. “He has uncovered himself
today in the sight of the maidservants of his subjects, like a vulgar person would do.”
And after this it came to pass, that David
smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took Metheg-ammah out of the
hand of the Philistines.
Some time later, David defeated the Philistines, subdued them, and took Metheg-ammah from the hand of the Philistines.
Then said David, I will
shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the
hand of his servants for his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of
Ammon.
And David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent some of his servants to
console Hanun concerning his father. But when they arrived in the land of the
Ammonites,
And the rest of the people he delivered into the
hand of
Abishai his brother, that he might put them in
array against the children of
Ammon.
And he placed the rest of the forces under the command of his brother
Abishai, who
arrayed them against the
Ammonites.
And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to
Joab, and sent it by the
hand of Uriah.
The next morning David wrote a letter to
Joab and sent it with Uriah.
And
Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I
anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the
hand of Saul;
Then
Nathan said to David, “You are that man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I
anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the
hand of Saul.
And he sent by the
hand of
Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.
and sent word through
Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah because the LORD loved him.
And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make
thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her
hand.
Jonadab told him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend you are ill. When your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me something to eat. Let her prepare it in my sight so I may watch her and eat it from her hand.’”
So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.
So Amnon lay down and
feigned illness. When the king came to see him, Amnon said, “Please let my sister Tamar come and make a couple of cakes in my sight, so that I may eat from her
hand.”
And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.
Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food into the
bedroom, so that I may eat it from your
hand.” Tamar took the cakes she had made and went to her brother Amnon’s
bedroom.
And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of
divers colours that was on her, and laid her
hand on her head, and went on crying.
And Tamar put ashes on her head and
tore her
robe. And putting her
hand on her head, she went away crying bitterly.
And thy
handmaid had two sons, and they two
strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one
smote the other, and
slew him.
And your
maidservant had two sons who were fighting in the field with no one to separate them, and one struck the other and killed him.
And, behold, the whole family is risen against thine
handmaid, and they said, Deliver him that
smote his brother, that we may kill him, for the life of his brother whom he
slew; and we will destroy the heir also: and so they shall
quench my coal which is left, and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth.
Now the whole clan has risen up against your
maidservant and said, ‘
Hand over the one who struck down his brother, that we may put him to death for the life of the brother whom he killed. Then we will cut off the heir as well!’ So they would
extinguish my one remaining
ember by not preserving my husband’s name or
posterity on the earth.”
Then the woman said, Let thine
handmaid, I pray thee, speak one word unto my lord the king. And he said, Say on.
Then the woman said, “Please, may your servant speak a word to my lord the king?” “Speak,” he replied.
Now therefore that I am come to speak of this thing unto my lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid: and thy
handmaid said, I will now speak unto the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his
handmaid.
Now therefore, I have come to present this matter to my lord the king because the people have made me afraid. Your servant thought, ‘I will speak to the king. Perhaps he will grant the request of his
maidservant.
For the king will hear, to deliver his
handmaid out of the
hand of the man that would destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God.
For the king will hear and deliver his
maidservant from the
hand of the man who would cut off both me and my son from God’s inheritance.’
Then thine
handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable: for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to
discern good and bad: therefore the LORD thy God will be with thee.
And now your servant says, ‘May the word of my lord the king bring me rest, for my lord the king is able to
discern good and evil, just like the angel of God. May the LORD your God be with you.’”
And the king said, Is not the
hand of
Joab with thee in all this? And the woman answered and said, As thy soul liveth, my lord the king, none can turn to the right
hand or to the left from ought that my lord the king hath spoken: for thy servant
Joab, he
bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thine
handmaid:
So the king asked, “Is the
hand of
Joab behind all this?” The woman answered, “As surely as you live, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right or to the left from anything that my lord the king says.
Yes, your servant
Joab is the one who gave me orders; he told your
maidservant exactly what to say.
But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as
Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no
blemish in him.
Now there was not a man in all Israel as
handsome and highly praised as
Absalom. From the sole of his foot to the top of his head, he did not have a single
flaw.
And it was so, that when any man came
nigh to him to do him
obeisance, he put forth his
hand, and took him, and
kissed him.
Also, when
anyone approached to bow down to him,
Absalom would reach out his
hand, take hold of him, and
kiss him.
And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.
He threw stones at David and at all the servants of the king, though the troops and all the mighty men were on David’s right and left.
The LORD hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose
stead thou hast reigned; and the LORD hath delivered the kingdom into the
hand of
Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a
bloody man.
The LORD has paid you back for all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned, and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the
hand of your son
Absalom. See, you have come to ruin because you are a man of
bloodshed!”
And
Ahithophel said unto
Absalom, Go in unto thy father’s concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art
abhorred of thy father: then shall the
hands of all that are with thee be strong.
Ahithophel replied, “Sleep with your father’s concubines, whom he has left to keep the palace. When all Israel hears that you have become a
stench to your father, then the
hands of all who are with you will be strengthened.”
And I will come upon him while he is
weary and weak
handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall
flee; and I will
smite the king only:
I will attack him while he is weak and
weary; I will throw him into a
panic, and all the people with him will
flee; I will strike down only the king
And David sent forth a third part of the people under the
hand of
Joab, and a third part under the
hand of
Abishai the son of Zeruiah,
Joab’s brother, and a third part under the
hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.
He sent out the troops, a third under
Joab, a third under
Joab’s brother
Abishai son of Zeruiah, and a third under Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the troops, “I will surely march out with you as well.”
And the man said unto
Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine
hand, yet would I not put forth mine
hand against the king’s son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and
Abishai and Ittai, saying,
Beware that none touch the young man
Absalom.
The man replied, “Even if a thousand shekels of silver were
weighed out into my
hands, I would not raise my
hand against the son of the king. For we heard the king command you and
Abishai and Ittai, ‘Protect the young man
Absalom for my sake.’
Then said
Joab, I may not
tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his
hand, and thrust them through the heart of
Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.
But
Joab declared, “I am not going to wait like this with you!” And he took three spears in his
hand and thrust them through the heart of
Absalom while he was still alive in the oak tree.
And
Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their
hand against my lord the king.
Then
Ahimaaz called out to the king, “All is well!” And he bowed facedown before the king. He continued, “Blessed be the LORD your God! He has delivered up the men who raised their
hands against my lord the king.”
And all the people were at
strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the
hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the
hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land for
Absalom.
And all the people throughout the tribes of Israel were
arguing, “The king
rescued us from the
hand of our enemies and delivered us from the
hand of the Philistines, but now he has fled the land because of
Absalom.
But
Amasa took no
heed to the sword that was in
Joab’s
hand: so he
smote him
therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his
bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. So
Joab and
Abishai his brother pursued after
Sheba the son of Bichri.
And when he was come near unto her, the woman said, Art thou
Joab? And he answered, I am he. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thine
handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.
When he had come near to her, the woman asked, “Are you
Joab?” “I am,” he replied. “
Listen to the words of your servant,” she said. “I am
listening,” he answered.
The matter is not so: but a man of mount Ephraim,
Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his
hand against the king, even against David: deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto
Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.
That is not the case. But a man named
Sheba son of Bichri, from the hill country of Ephraim, has lifted up his
hand against the king, against David. Deliver him alone, and I will depart from the city.” “Look,” the woman replied, “his head will be thrown to you over the wall.”
And he delivered them into the
hands of the Gibeonites, and they
hanged them in the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.
And he delivered them into the
hands of the Gibeonites, and they
hanged them on the hill before the LORD. So all seven of them fell together; they were put to death in the first days of the harvest, at the beginning of the barley harvest.
And there was yet a battle in
Gath, where was a man of great
stature, that had on every
hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the
giant.
And there was still another battle at
Gath, where there was a man of great
stature with six fingers on each
hand and six toes on each foot—twenty-four in all. He too was descended from Rapha,
These four were born to the
giant in
Gath, and fell by the
hand of David, and by the
hand of his servants.
So these four descendants of Rapha in
Gath fell at the
hands of David and his servants.
And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:
And David
sang this song to the LORD on the day the LORD had delivered him from the
hand of all his enemies and from the
hand of Saul.
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my
hands hath he
recompensed me.
The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness; He has repaid me according to the cleanness of my hands.
He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
But the sons of
Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with
hands:
But the worthless are all like thorns
raked aside, for they can never be gathered by
hand.
He arose, and
smote the Philistines until his
hand was
weary, and his
hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to
spoil.
but
Eleazar stood his ground and struck the Philistines until his
hand grew
weary and
stuck to his sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that day. Then the troops returned to him, but only to
plunder the dead.
And he
slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a
spear in his
hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and
plucked the
spear out of the Egyptian’s
hand, and
slew him with his own
spear.
He also killed an Egyptian, a huge man. Although the Egyptian had a
spear in his
hand, Benaiah went against him with a club,
snatched the
spear from his
hand, and killed the Egyptian with his own
spear.
And David said unto
Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the
hand of the LORD; for his
mercies are great: and let me not fall into the
hand of man.
David answered
Gad, “I am deeply distressed. Please, let us fall into the
hand of the LORD, for His
mercies are great; but do not let me fall into the
hands of men.”
And when the angel stretched out his
hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD
repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine
hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.
But when the angel stretched out his
hand to destroy Jerusalem, the LORD relented from the
calamity and said to the angel who was destroying the people, “Enough! Withdraw your
hand now!” At that time the angel of the LORD was by the
threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that
smote the people, and said, Lo, I have
sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine
hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s house.
When David saw the angel striking down the people, he said to the LORD, “Surely I, the
shepherd, have
sinned and acted wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? Please, let Your
hand fall upon me and my father’s house.”
And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after
Absalom.
(His father had never once
reprimanded him by saying, “Why do you act this way?” Adonijah was also very
handsome, born next after
Absalom.)
Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him,
Didst not thou, my lord, O king,
swear unto thine
handmaid, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then
doth Adonijah reign?
Go at once to King David and say, ‘My lord the king, did you not
swear to your
maidservant, “Surely your son Solomon will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’
And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine
handmaid, saying,
Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.
“My lord,” she replied, “you
yourself swore to your
maidservant by the LORD your God: ‘Surely your son Solomon will reign after me, and he will sit on my throne.’
Bath-
sheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be set for the king’s mother; and she sat on his right
hand.
So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah. The king stood up to
greet her, bowed to her, and sat down on his throne. Then the king had a throne brought for his mother, who sat down at his right
hand.
And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell upon him that he died.
So King Solomon sent the order to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, who struck down Adonijah, and he died.
So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; which went out, and fell upon him, that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
Then the king commanded Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he went out and struck Shimei down, and he died. Thus the kingdom was firmly established in the hand of Solomon.
So she got up in the middle of the night and took my son from my side while I was
asleep. She laid him in her
bosom and put her dead son at my
bosom.
And it was an
hand breadth thick, and the
brim thereof was wrought like the
brim of a cup, with flowers of
lilies: it contained two thousand baths.
And there were four undersetters to the four corners of one base: and the undersetters were of the very base itself.
Each stand had four handles, one for each corner, projecting from the stand.
And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying,
and said: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has fulfilled with His own hand what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying,
And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven:
Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven,
Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.
You have kept Your promise to Your servant, my father David. What You spoke with Your mouth You have fulfilled with Your hand this day.
What prayer and
supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his
hands toward this house:
then may whatever prayer or petition Your people Israel make—each knowing his own afflictions and spreading out his hands toward this temple—
(For they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy stretched out arm;) when he shall come and pray toward this house;
for they will hear of Your great name and mighty hand and outstretched arm—when he comes and prays toward this temple,
For thou
didst separate them from among all the people of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spakest by the
hand of Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord GOD.
For You, O Lord GOD, as Your inheritance, have set them apart from all the peoples of the earth, as You spoke through Your servant Moses when You brought our fathers out of Egypt.”
And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and
supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from
kneeling on his knees with his
hands spread up to heaven.
Now when Solomon had finished praying this entire prayer and petition to the LORD, he got up before the altar of the LORD, where he had been
kneeling with his
hands spread out toward heaven.
Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.
“Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest to His people Israel according to all that He promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises He made through His servant Moses.
Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it for David thy father’s sake: but I will
rend it out of the
hand of thy son.
Nevertheless, for the sake of your father David, I will not do it during your lifetime; I will
tear it out of the
hand of your son.
And
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda, Solomon’s servant, whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow woman, even he lifted up his
hand against the king.
Now
Jeroboam son of Nebat was an Ephraimite from Zeredah whose mother was a widow named Zeruah.
Jeroboam was a servant of Solomon, but he rebelled against the king,
And this was the cause that he lifted up his
hand against the king: Solomon built
Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father.
and this is the account of his rebellion against the king. Solomon had built the supporting terraces and repaired the
gap in the wall of the city of his father David.
And he said to
Jeroboam, Take thee ten pieces: for thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, Behold, I will
rend the kingdom out of the
hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to thee:
and said to
Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces for
yourself, for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will
tear the kingdom out of the
hand of Solomon, and I will give you ten tribes.
Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his
hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life for David my servant’s sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes:
Nevertheless, I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand, because I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David My servant, whom I chose because he kept My commandments and statutes.
But I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand, and will give it unto thee, even ten tribes.
But I will take ten tribes of the kingdom from the hand of his son and give them to you.
And it came to pass, when king
Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had
cried against the altar in
Bethel, that he put forth his
hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his
hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.
Now when King
Jeroboam, who was at the altar in
Bethel, heard the word that the man of God had
cried out against it, he stretched out his
hand and said, “Seize him!” But the
hand he stretched out toward him
withered, so that he could not pull it back.
And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my
hand may be restored me again. And the man of God
besought the LORD, and the king’s
hand was restored him again, and became as it was before.
Then the king
responded to the man of God, “
Intercede with the LORD your God and pray that my
hand may be restored.” So the man of God
interceded with the LORD, and the king’s
hand was restored to him as it was before.
And they buried him; and all Israel
mourned for him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by the
hand of his servant
Ahijah the prophet.
And they buried him, and all Israel
mourned for him, according to the word that the LORD had spoken through His servant
Ahijah the prophet.
And king
Rehoboam made in their
stead brasen shields, and committed them unto the
hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king’s house.
Then King
Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place and committed them to the care of the captains of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.
Then
Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’s house, and delivered them into the
hand of his servants: and king
Asa sent them to Ben-
hadad, the son of Tabrimon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
So
Asa withdrew all the silver and gold that remained in the
treasuries of the house of the LORD and the royal palace. He entrusted it to his servants and sent them with this message to Ben-
hadad son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion king of
Aram, who was ruling in Damascus:
And also by the
hand of the prophet
Jehu the son of Hanani came the word of the LORD against
Baasha, and against his house, even for all the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, in
provoking him to anger with the work of his
hands, in being like the house of
Jeroboam; and because he killed him.
Moreover, the word of the LORD came through the prophet
Jehu son of Hanani against
Baasha and his house, because of all the evil he had done in the sight of the LORD,
provoking Him to anger with the work of his
hands and becoming like the house of
Jeroboam, and also because
Baasha had struck down the house of
Jeroboam.
And as she was going to
fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a
morsel of bread in thine
hand.
And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a piece of bread.”
And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a
cake, but an
handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a
cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
But she replied, “As surely as the LORD your God lives, I have no bread—only a
handful of flour in a
jar and a little oil in a
jug. Look, I am gathering a couple of sticks to take home and prepare a meal for myself and my son, so that we may eat it and die.”
And he said, What have I
sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the
hand of
Ahab, to
slay me?
But
Obadiah replied, “How have I
sinned, that you are
handing your servant over to
Ahab to put me to death?
