And the LORD said unto
Noah, Come thou and all thy
house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
Then the LORD said to
Noah, “Go into the ark, you and all your family, because I have found you righteous in this generation.
Now the LORD had said unto
Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s
house, unto a land that I will
shew thee:
Then the LORD said to
Abram, “Leave your country, your kindred, and your father’s
household, and go to the land I will show you.
The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and
commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s
house.
When Pharaoh’s officials saw Sarai, they
commended her to him, and she was taken into the palace of Pharaoh.
And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his
house with great plagues because of Sarai
Abram’s wife.
The LORD, however,
afflicted Pharaoh and his
household with severe plagues because of
Abram’s wife Sarai.
And when
Abram heard that his brother was taken
captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own

household, and they set out in pursuit as far as

And
Abram said, Lord GOD, what
wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the
steward of my
house is this
Eliezer of Damascus?

house is
Eliezer of Damascus?”
And
Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my
house is mine heir.

household will be my heir.”
And he that is eight days old shall be
circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the
house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.
Generation after generation, every male must be
circumcised when he is eight days old, including those born in your
household and those purchased from a foreigner—even those who are not your offspring.
He that is born in thy
house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be
circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an
everlasting covenant.
Whether they are born in your
household or purchased, they must be
circumcised. My covenant in your flesh will be an
everlasting covenant.
And Abraham took
Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his
house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s
house; and
circumcised the flesh of their
foreskin in the
selfsame day, as God had said unto him.
On that very day Abraham took his son
Ishmael and all those born in his
household or purchased with his money—every male among the members of Abraham’s
household—and he
circumcised them, just as God had told him.
And all the men of his
house, born in the
house, and bought with money of the stranger, were
circumcised with him.
And all the men of Abraham’s
household—both servants born in his
household and those purchased from foreigners—were
circumcised with him.
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
For I have chosen him, so that he will command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, in order that the LORD may bring upon Abraham what He has promised.”
And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s
house, and
tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said,
Nay; but we will
abide in the street all night.
and said, “My lords, please turn aside into the
house of your servant; wash your feet and
spend the night. Then you can rise early and go on your way.” “No,” they answered, “we will
spend the night in the square.”
And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his
house; and he made them a feast, and did
bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.

house. He prepared a feast for them and
baked unleavened bread, and they
ate.
But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of
Sodom, compassed the
house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
Before they had gone to bed, all the men of the city of
Sodom, both young and old, surrounded the
house.
But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.
But the men inside reached out, pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door.
And they
smote the men that were at the door of the
house with blindness, both small and great: so that they
wearied themselves to find the door.
And they struck the men at the entrance, young and old, with blindness, so that they
wearied themselves trying to find the door.

house, I said to
Sarah, ‘This is how you can show your
loyalty to me: Wherever we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”
For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the
house of
Abimelech, because of
Sarah Abraham’s wife.
for on account of Abraham’s wife
Sarah, the LORD had completely closed all the wombs in
Abimelech’s
household.
And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his
house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my
thigh:
So Abraham
instructed the chief servant of his
household, who managed all he owned, “Place your hand under my
thigh,
The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father’s
house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that
sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.
The LORD, the God of heaven, who brought me from my father’s house and my native land, who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring I will give this land’—He will send His angel before you so that you can take a wife for my son from there.
And said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father’s
house for us to
lodge in?
“Whose daughter are you?” he asked. “Please tell me, is there room in your father’s
house for us to
spend the night?”
And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master’s brethren.
saying, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not
withheld His kindness and faithfulness from my master. As for me, the LORD has led me on the journey to the
house of my master’s relatives.”
And the
damsel ran, and told them of her mother’s
house these things.
The
girl ran and told her mother’s
household about these things.
And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the LORD; wherefore standest thou without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.
“Come, you who are blessed by the LORD,” said
Laban. “Why are you standing out here? I have prepared the
house and a place for the camels.”
And the man came into the
house: and he
ungirded his camels, and gave straw and
provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men’s feet that were with him.
So the man came to the house, and the camels were unloaded. Straw and feed were brought to the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of his companions.

prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father’s
house:
And he told me, ‘The LORD, before whom I have walked, will send His angel with you and make your journey a success, so that you may take a wife for my son from my kindred and from my father’s house.
And
Rebekah took goodly
raiment of her eldest son
Esau, which were with her in the
house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:
And
Rebekah took the finest clothes in the
house that belonged to her older son
Esau, and she put them on her younger son Jacob.
Arise, go to Padan-
aram, to the
house of
Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of
Laban thy mother’s brother.
“Go at once to Paddan-
aram, to the
house of your mother’s father
Bethuel, and take a wife from among the daughters of
Laban, your mother’s brother.
And he was afraid, and said, How
dreadful is this place! this is none other but the
house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
And he was afraid and said, “How
awesome is this place! This is none other than the
house of God; this is the gate of heaven!”
So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
so that I may return safely to my father’s house, then the LORD will be my God.
And this stone, which I have set for a
pillar, shall be God’s
house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
And this stone I have set up as a
pillar will be God’s
house, and of all that You give me I will surely give You a tenth.”
And it came to pass, when
Laban heard the
tidings of Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and
kissed him, and brought him to his
house. And he told
Laban all these things.
When
Laban heard the news about his sister’s son Jacob, he ran out to meet him. He embraced him and
kissed him and brought him to his home, where Jacob told him all that had happened.
For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?
Indeed, you had very little before my arrival, but now your wealth has increased many times over. The LORD has blessed you wherever I set foot. But now, when may I also provide for my own household?”
And
Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father’s
house?
And
Rachel and Leah replied, “Do we have any portion or inheritance left in our father’s
house?
Now while
Laban was out shearing his sheep,
Rachel stole her father’s
household idols.
And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou
sore longedst after thy father’s
house, yet wherefore hast thou
stolen my gods?
Now you have gone off because you long for your father’s
house. But why have you
stolen my gods?”
Now
Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the
camel’s furniture, and sat upon them. And
Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.
Now
Rachel had taken
Laban’s
household idols, put them in the saddlebag of her
camel, and was sitting on them. And
Laban searched everything in the tent but found nothing.
And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but found not the images.
Rachel said to her father, “Sir, do not be
angry that I cannot stand up before you; for I am having my period.” So
Laban searched, but could not find the
household idols.
Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy
household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may judge
betwixt us both.
You have searched all my goods! Have you found anything that belongs to you? Put it here before my brothers and yours, that they may judge between the two of us.
Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.
Thus for twenty years I have served in your household—fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flocks—and you have changed my wages ten times!
And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.

house for himself and shelters for his

And the young man
deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter: and he was more honourable than all the

fulfill this request, because he was delighted with Jacob’s daughter.
And they
slew Hamor and
Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of

house, and went away.
And all their wealth, and all their little ones, and their wives took they
captive, and
spoiled even all that was in the

They carried off all their possessions and women and children, and they
plundered everything in their
houses.
And Jacob said to
Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to
stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the
Canaanites and the
Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and
slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my
house.
Then Jacob said to
Simeon and Levi, “You have brought trouble upon me by making me a
stench to the
Canaanites and
Perizzites, the people of this land. We are few in number; if they unite against me and attack me, I and my
household will be destroyed.”
Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

Purify yourselves and change your garments.
And
Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his
house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of
Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob.
Later,
Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the people of his
household, along with his
livestock, all his other animals, and all the property he had acquired in
Canaan, and he moved to a land far away from his brother Jacob.
Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father’s
house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest
peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s
house.
Then Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, “Live as a widow in your father’s house until my son Shelah grows up.” For he thought, “He may die too, like his brothers.” So Tamar went to live in her father’s house.
And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
And the LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, serving in the household of his Egyptian master.
And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him
overseer over his
house, and all that he had he put into his hand.
Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal
attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his
household and entrusted him with everything he owned.
And it came to pass from the time that he had made him
overseer in his
house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s
house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the
house, and in the field.
From the time that he put Joseph in charge of his household and all he owned, the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s household on account of him. The LORD’s blessing was on everything he owned, both in his house and in his field.
But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master
wotteth not what is with me in the
house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;
But he refused. “Look,” he said to his master’s wife, “with me here, my master does not
concern himself with anything in his
house, and he has entrusted everything he owns to my care.
There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
No one in this
house is greater than I am. He has
withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. So how could I do such a great evil and sin against God?”
And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.
One day, however, Joseph went into the house to attend to his work, and not a single household servant was inside.
And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,
When she saw that he had left his
cloak in her hand and had run out of the
house,
That she called unto the men of her
house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to
mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I
cried with a loud voice:
she called her
household servants. “Look,” she said, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make
sport of us. He came to me so he could sleep with me, but I
screamed as loud as I could.
And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and
cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.
When he heard me
scream for help, he left his
cloak beside me and ran out of the
house.”
And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and
cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.
but when I
screamed for help, he left his
cloak beside me and ran out of the
house.”

And he asked Pharaoh’s officers that were with him in the ward of his lord’s
house, saying, Wherefore look ye so
sadly to day?
So he asked the officials of Pharaoh who were in
custody with him in his master’s
house, “Why are your faces so
downcast today?”
But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and
shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this
house:
But when it goes well for you, please remember me and show me kindness by mentioning me to Pharaoh, that he might bring me out of this prison.
Pharaoh was
wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard’s
house, both me and the chief
baker:
Pharaoh was once
angry with his servants, and he put me and the chief
baker in the
custody of the captain of the guard.
Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.
You shall be in charge of my house, and all my people are to obey your commands. Only with regard to the throne will I be greater than you.”
If ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bound in the house of your prison: go ye, carry corn for the famine of your houses:
If you are
honest, leave one of your brothers in
custody while the rest of you go and take back grain to
relieve the hunger of your
households.
And the man, the lord of the country, said unto us,
Hereby shall I know that ye are true men; leave one of your brethren here with me, and take food for the famine of your
households, and be gone:
Then the man who is lord of the land said to us, ‘This is how I will know whether you are
honest: Leave one brother with me, take food to
relieve the hunger of your
households, and go.
And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his
house, Bring these men home, and
slay, and make ready; for these men shall
dine with me at
noon.
When Joseph saw Benjamin with his brothers, he said to the
steward of his
house, “Take these men to my
house. Slaughter an animal and prepare it, for they shall
dine with me at
noon.”
And the man did as Joseph
bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph’s
house.
The man did as Joseph had commanded and took the brothers to Joseph’s house.
And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s
house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for
bondmen, and our
asses.
But the brothers were
frightened that they had been taken to Joseph’s
house. “We have been brought here because of the silver that was returned in our bags the first time,” they said. “They intend to overpower us and take us as slaves, along with our
donkeys.”
And they came near to the
steward of Joseph’s
house, and they communed with him at the door of the
house,
So they approached Joseph’s
steward and spoke to him at the entrance to the
house.
And the man brought the men into Joseph’s
house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their
asses provender.
And the
steward took the men into Joseph’s
house, gave them water to wash their feet, and provided food for their
donkeys.
And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.
When Joseph came home, they presented him with the gifts they had brought, and they bowed to the ground before him.
And he commanded the
steward of his
house, saying, Fill the men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man’s money in his
sack’s mouth.
Then Joseph
instructed his
steward: “Fill the men’s sacks with as much food as they can carry, and put each one’s silver in the mouth of his
sack.
Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks’ mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of
Canaan: how then should we
steal out of thy lord’s
house silver or gold?
We even brought back to you from the land of
Canaan the silver we found in the mouths of our sacks. Why would we
steal silver or gold from your master’s
house?
And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph’s house; for he was yet there: and they fell before him on the ground.
When Judah and his brothers arrived at Joseph’s house, he was still there, and they fell to the ground before him.
And he
wept aloud: and the Egyptians and the
house of Pharaoh heard.
But he
wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh’s
household soon heard of it.
So now it was not you that sent me
hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his
house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.
Therefore it was not you who sent me here, but God, who has made me a father to Pharaoh—lord of all his household and ruler over all the land of Egypt.
And there will I
nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy
household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty.
And there I will provide for you, because there will be five more years of famine. Otherwise, you and your
household and everything you own will come to
destitution.’
And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh’s house, saying, Joseph’s brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants.
When the news reached Pharaoh’s house that Joseph’s brothers had come, Pharaoh and his servants were pleased.
And take your father and your households, and come unto me: and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye shall eat the fat of the land.
Then bring your father and your families and return to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you shall eat from the fat of the land.’
And the sons of Joseph, which were born him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the
house of Jacob, which came into Egypt, were
threescore and ten.
And with the two sons who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob’s family who went to Egypt were seventy in all.
And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father’s
house, I will go up, and
shew Pharaoh, and say unto him, My brethren, and my father’s
house, which were in the land of
Canaan, are come unto me;
Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s
household, “I will go up and inform Pharaoh: ‘My brothers and my father’s
household from the land of
Canaan have come to me.
And Joseph
nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father’s
household, with bread, according to their families.
Joseph also provided his father and brothers and all his father’s household with food for their families.
And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of
Canaan, for the corn which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s
house.
Joseph collected all the money to be found in the land of Egypt and the land of
Canaan in exchange for the grain they were
buying, and he brought it into Pharaoh’s palace.
And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.
At harvest time, you are to give a fifth of it to Pharaoh, and four-fifths will be yours as seed for the field and food for
yourselves and your
households and children.”
And when the days of his
mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the
house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,
When the days of
mourning had passed, Joseph said to Pharaoh’s court, “If I have found favor in your eyes, please tell Pharaoh that
And Joseph went up to
bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his
house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,
Then Joseph went to
bury his father, and all the servants of Pharaoh accompanied him—the elders of Pharaoh’s
household and all the elders of the land of Egypt—
And all the
house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father’s
house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of
Goshen.
along with all of Joseph’s
household, and his brothers, and his father’s
household. Only their children and flocks and herds were left in
Goshen.
And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.
Now Joseph and his father’s household remained in Egypt, and Joseph lived to the age of 110.
Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.
These are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt with Jacob, each with his family:
And it came to pass, because the
midwives feared God, that he made them
houses.
And because the
midwives feared God, He gave them families of their own.
And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.
Now a man of the house of Levi married a daughter of Levi,
But every woman shall
borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her
house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and
raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall
spoil the Egyptians.
Every woman shall ask her
neighbor and any woman staying in her
house for silver and gold
jewelry and clothing, and you will put them on your sons and daughters. So you will
plunder the Egyptians.”
These be the heads of their fathers’
houses: The sons of
Reuben the
firstborn of Israel; Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi: these be the families of
Reuben.
These were the heads of their fathers’
houses: The sons of
Reuben, the
firstborn of Israel, were Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. These were the clans of
Reuben.
And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to this also.
Instead, Pharaoh turned around, went into his palace, and did not take any of this to heart.
And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine
house, and into thy
bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the
house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs:
The Nile will
teem with frogs, and they will come into your palace and up to your
bedroom and
onto your bed, into the
houses of your officials and your people, and into your ovens and
kneading bowls.
And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only?
Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have the honor over me. When shall I pray for you and your officials and your people that the frogs (except for those in the Nile) may be taken away from you and your houses?”
And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only.
The frogs will depart from you and your houses and your officials and your people; they will remain only in the Nile.”
