Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the
household, and Shebna the
scribe, and Joah, the son of
Asaph, the recorder, to
Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of
Rabshakeh.
And it came to pass, when king
Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with
sackcloth, and went into the
house of the LORD.
On hearing this report, King
Hezekiah tore his clothes, put on
sackcloth, and entered the
house of the LORD.
And he sent Eliakim, who was over the
household, and Shebna the
scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with
sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
And he sent Eliakim the palace
administrator, Shebna the
scribe, and the leading priests, all wearing
sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz
And
Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and
Hezekiah went up unto the
house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.
So
Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers, read it, and went up to the
house of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD.
Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green
herb, as the grass on the
housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.
Therefore their inhabitants, devoid of power, are dismayed and
ashamed. They are like plants in the field, tender green shoots, grass on the rooftops,
scorched before it is grown.
And the
remnant that is escaped of the
house of Judah shall again take root
downward, and bear fruit upward:
And the
surviving remnant of the
house of Judah will again take root below and bear fruit above.
One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god
Nisroch, his sons
Adrammelech and Sharezer put him to the sword and escaped to the land of
Ararat. And his son Esar-haddon reigned in his place.
In those days was
Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine
house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.
In those days
Hezekiah became
mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Put your
house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.’”
The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.
The LORD will save me; we will play songs on stringed instruments all the days of our lives in the house of the LORD.
Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the
house of the LORD?
And
Hezekiah had asked, “What will be the sign that I will go up to the
house of the LORD?”
And
Hezekiah was
glad of them, and shewed them the
house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious
ointment, and all the
house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his
house, nor in all his dominion, that
Hezekiah shewed them not.
And
Hezekiah welcomed the envoys
gladly and showed them what was in his
treasure house—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, as well as his entire
armory—all that was found in his storehouses. There was nothing in his palace or in all his dominion that
Hezekiah did not show them.
Then said he, What have they seen in thine
house? And
Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine
house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.
“What have they seen in your palace?” Isaiah asked. “They have seen everything in my palace,” answered
Hezekiah. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”
Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.
The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.
to open the eyes of the blind, to bring prisoners out of the
dungeon and those sitting in darkness out from the prison
house.
But this is a people
robbed and
spoiled; they are all of them
snared in holes, and they are
hid in prison
houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a
spoil, and none saith, Restore.
The
carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the
house.
The woodworker extends a measuring line; he marks it out with a
stylus; he shapes it with chisels and outlines it with a compass. He fashions it in the likeness of man, like man in all his glory, that it may dwell in a
shrine.
Hearken unto me, O
house of Jacob, and all the
remnant of the
house of Israel, which are borne by me from the
belly, which are carried from the
womb:
“
Listen to Me, O
house of Jacob, all the
remnant of the
house of Israel, who have been sustained from the
womb, carried along since birth.
Hear ye this, O
house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which
swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.
“
Listen to this, O
house of Jacob, you who are called by the name of Israel, who have descended from the line of Judah, who
swear by the name of the LORD, who
invoke the God of Israel— but not in truth or righteousness—
Even unto them will I give in mine
house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an
everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
I will give them, in My
house and within My walls, a
memorial and a name better than that of sons and daughters. I will give them an
everlasting name that will not be cut off.
Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
I will bring them to My holy mountain and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on My altar, for My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations.”
“Cry
aloud, do not hold back! Raise your voice like a ram’s horn. Declare to My people their
transgression and to the
house of Jacob their sins.
Is it not to deal thy bread to the
hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy
house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not
thyself from thine own flesh?
Isn’t it to share your bread with the
hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your home, to
clothe the naked when you see him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
All the flocks of
Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will
glorify the
house of my glory.
All the flocks of
Kedar will be gathered to you; the rams of Nebaioth will serve you and go up on My altar with acceptance; I will
adorn My glorious
house.
I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the
house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his
mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.
I will make known the LORD’s loving devotion and His
praiseworthy acts, because of all that the LORD has done for us— the many good things for the
house of Israel according to His great
compassion and loving devotion.
Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.
Our holy and beautiful temple, where our fathers praised You, has been burned with fire, and all that was
dear to us lies in ruins.
And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.
They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine
elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
No longer will they build houses for others to inhabit, nor plant for others to eat. For as is the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people, and My chosen ones will fully enjoy the work of their hands.
Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my
footstool: where is the
house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?
This is what the LORD says: “Heaven is My throne, and earth is My
footstool. What kind of
house will you build for Me? Or where will My place of
repose be?
And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in
chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the
house of the LORD.
And they will bring all your brothers from all the nations as a gift to the LORD on horses and
chariots and wagons, on mules and camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the LORD, “just as the Israelites bring an offering in a clean vessel to the
house of the LORD.”
Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:
Hear the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all you families of the house of Israel.
As the
thief is
ashamed when he is found, so is the
house of Israel
ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,
As the
thief is
ashamed when he is caught, so the
house of Israel is disgraced. They, their kings, their officials, their priests, and their prophets
In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.
In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel, and they will come together from the land of the north to the land that I gave to your fathers as an inheritance.
Surely as a wife
treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt
treacherously with me, O
house of Israel, saith the LORD.
But as a woman may
betray her husband, so you have
betrayed Me, O
house of Israel,” declares the LORD.
How shall I
pardon thee for this? thy children have
forsaken me, and
sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed
adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots’
houses.
“Why should I
forgive you? Your children have
forsaken Me and
sworn by gods that are not gods. I satisfied their needs, yet they committed
adultery and assembled at the
houses of prostitutes.
For the
house of Israel and the
house of Judah have dealt very
treacherously against me, saith the LORD.
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly unfaithful to Me,” declares the LORD.
Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
Behold, I am bringing a distant nation against you, O house of Israel,” declares the LORD. “It is an established nation, an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know and whose speech you do not understand.
Declare this in the
house of Jacob, and
publish it in Judah, saying,
Declare this in the
house of Jacob and
proclaim it in Judah:
As a
cage is full of birds, so are their
houses full of
deceit: therefore they are become great, and
waxen rich.
Like cages full of birds, so their
houses are full of
deceit. Therefore they have become powerful and rich.
And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.
Their houses will be turned over to others, their fields and wives as well, for I will stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land,” declares the LORD.
Stand in the gate of the LORD’S
house, and
proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.
“Stand in the gate of the
house of the LORD and
proclaim this message: Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah who enter through these gates to worship the LORD.
And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?
and then come and stand before Me in this house, which bears My Name, and say, ‘We are delivered, so we can continue with all these abominations’?
Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.
Has this
house, which bears My Name, become a den of robbers in your sight?
Yes, I too have seen it, declares the LORD.
Therefore will I do unto this
house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to
Shiloh.
therefore what I did to
Shiloh I will now do to the
house that bears My Name, the
house in which you trust, the place that I gave to you and your fathers.
For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the
house which is called by my name, to
pollute it.
For the people of Judah have done evil in My sight, declares the LORD. They have set up their abominations in the
house that bears My Name, and so have
defiled it.
Egypt, and Judah, and
Edom, and the children of
Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are
uncircumcised, and all the
house of Israel are
uncircumcised in the heart.
Egypt, Judah,
Edom,
Ammon, Moab, and all the inhabitants of the desert who
clip the hair of their temples. For all these nations are
uncircumcised, and the whole
house of Israel is
uncircumcised in heart.”
Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
Hear the word that the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel.
They are turned back to the
iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the
house of Israel and the
house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
They have returned to the sins of their forefathers who refused to obey My words. They have followed other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken the covenant I made with their fathers.
What hath my beloved to do in mine
house, seeing she hath wrought
lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.
What right has My beloved in My
house, having carried out so many evil schemes? Can consecrated meat
avert your
doom, so that you can
rejoice?
For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the
house of Israel and of the
house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to
provoke me to anger in offering incense unto
Baal.
The LORD of Hosts, who planted you, has decreed
disaster against you on account of the evil that the
house of Israel and the
house of Judah have brought upon themselves,
provoking Me to anger by burning incense to
Baal.”
For even thy brethren, and the
house of thy father, even they have dealt
treacherously with thee;
yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.
Even your brothers— your own father’s
household— even they have
betrayed you; even they have
cried aloud against you. Do not trust them, though they speak well of you.
I have
forsaken mine
house, I have left mine
heritage; I have given the
dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.
I have
forsaken My
house; I have abandoned My inheritance. I have given the love of My life into the hands of her enemies.
Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to
inherit; Behold, I will
pluck them out of their land, and
pluck out the
house of Judah from among them.
This is what the LORD says: “As for all My evil neighbors who attack the inheritance that I
bequeathed to My people Israel, I am about to
uproot them from their land, and I will
uproot the
house of Judah from among them.
For as the
girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to
cleave unto me the whole
house of Israel and the whole
house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.
For just as a loincloth clings to a man’s
waist, so I have made the whole
house of Israel and the whole
house of Judah
cling to Me, declares the LORD, so that they might be My people for My
renown and praise and glory. But they did not
listen.
For thus saith the LORD, Enter not into the
house of
mourning, neither go to
lament nor
bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the LORD, even lovingkindness and
mercies.
Indeed, this is what the LORD says: “Do not enter a
house where there is a funeral meal. Do not go to
mourn or show sympathy, for I have removed from this people My peace, My loving devotion, and My
compassion,” declares the LORD.
Thou shalt not also go into the house of feasting, to sit with them to eat and to drink.
You must not enter a house where there is feasting and sit down with them to eat and drink.
Neither carry forth a burden out of your
houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work, but
hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers.
You must not carry a load out of your houses or do any work on the Sabbath day, but you must keep the Sabbath day holy, just as I commanded your forefathers.
And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the LORD.
And people will come from the cities of Judah and the places around Jerusalem, from the land of Benjamin, and from the foothills, the hill country, and the Negev, bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices, grain offerings and
frankincense, and
thank offerings to the
house of the LORD.
Arise, and go down to the
potter’s
house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
“Go down at once to the
potter’s
house, and there I will
reveal My message to you.”
Then I went down to the
potter’s
house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
So I went down to the
potter’s
house and saw him working at the wheel.
O
house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this
potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the
potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O
house of Israel.
“O
house of Israel, declares the LORD, can I not treat you as this
potter treats his clay? Just like clay in the
potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O
house of Israel.
Let a cry be heard from their
houses, when thou shalt bring a
troop suddenly upon them: for they have
digged a pit to take me, and
hid snares for my feet.
Let a cry be heard from their
houses when You suddenly bring raiders against them, for they have
dug a pit to capture me and have hidden snares for my feet.
And the
houses of Jerusalem, and the
houses of the kings of Judah, shall be
defiled as the place of
Tophet, because of all the
houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods.
The
houses of Jerusalem and the
houses of the kings of Judah will be
defiled like that place, Topheth—all the
houses on whose rooftops they burned incense to all the host of heaven and poured out drink offerings to other gods.”
Then came Jeremiah from
Tophet,
whither the LORD had sent him to
prophesy; and he stood in the court of the LORD’S
house; and said to all the people,
Then Jeremiah returned from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to
prophesy, and he stood in the
courtyard of the
house of the LORD and proclaimed to all the people,
Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the
house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah
prophesied these things.
When Pashhur the priest, the son of Immer and the chief official in the
house of the LORD, heard Jeremiah
prophesying these things,
Then Pashur
smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the
house of the LORD.
he had Jeremiah the prophet beaten and put in the stocks at the Upper Gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.
And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine
house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast
prophesied lies.
And you, Pashhur, and all who live in your
house, will go into captivity. You will go to Babylon, and there you will die and be buried—you and all your friends to whom you have
prophesied these lies.’”
And touching the house of the king of Judah, say, Hear ye the word of the LORD;
Moreover, tell the house of the king of Judah to hear the word of the LORD.
O
house of David, thus saith the LORD;
Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver him that is
spoiled out of the hand of the
oppressor, lest my
fury go out like fire, and burn that none can
quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
O
house of David, this is what the LORD says: ‘
Administer justice every morning, and
rescue the
victim of
robbery from the hand of his
oppressor, or My wrath will go forth like fire and burn with no one to
extinguish it because of their evil deeds.
Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,
This is what the LORD says: “Go down to the palace of the king of Judah and
proclaim this message there,
For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this
house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in
chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people.
For if you will indeed carry out these commands, then kings who sit on David’s throne will enter through the gates of this palace riding on
chariots and horses—they and their officials and their people.
But if ye will not hear these words, I
swear by myself, saith the LORD, that this
house shall become a
desolation.
But if you do not obey these words, then I
swear by Myself, declares the LORD, that this
house will become a pile of
rubble.’”
For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s
house of Judah; Thou art
Gilead unto me, and the head of
Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited.
For this is what the LORD says concerning the
house of the king of Judah: “You are like
Gilead to Me, like the summit of
Lebanon; but I will surely turn you into a desert, like cities that are uninhabited.
Woe unto him that buildeth his
house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;
“
Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, and his upper rooms without justice, who makes his countrymen serve without pay, and fails to pay their wages,
That saith, I will build me a wide
house and large chambers, and cutteth him out windows; and it is cieled with
cedar, and painted with
vermilion.
who says, ‘I will build myself a great palace, with
spacious upper rooms.’ So he cuts windows in it, panels it with
cedar, and paints it with
vermilion.
But, The LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the
house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries
whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.
Instead they will say, ‘As surely as the LORD lives, who brought and led the descendants of the house of Israel up out of the land of the north and all the other lands to which He had banished them.’ Then they will dwell once more in their own land.”
For both prophet and priest are
profane;
yea, in my
house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD.
“For both prophet and priest are ungodly; even in My house I have found their wickedness,” declares the LORD.
And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even
punish that man and his
house.
As for the prophet or priest or
anyone who claims, ‘This is the burden of the LORD,’ I will
punish that man and his
household.
Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD’S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’S house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:
“This is what the LORD says: Stand in the
courtyard of the
house of the LORD and speak all the words I have commanded you to speak to all the cities of Judah who come to worship there. Do not
omit a word.
Then will I make this
house like
Shiloh, and will make this city a
curse to all the nations of the earth.
then I will make this
house like
Shiloh, and I will make this city an object of
cursing among all the nations of the earth.’”
So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.
Now the priests and prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD,
Why hast thou
prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This
house shall be like
Shiloh, and this city shall be
desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the
house of the LORD.
How
dare you
prophesy in the name of the LORD that this
house will become like
Shiloh and this city will be
desolate and deserted!” And all the people assembled against Jeremiah in the
house of the LORD.
When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king’s house unto the house of the LORD, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD’S house.
When the officials of Judah heard these things, they went up from the king’s palace to the house of the LORD and sat there at the entrance of the New Gate.
Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to
prophesy against this
house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.
But Jeremiah said to all the officials and all the people, “The LORD sent me to
prophesy against this
house and against this city all the words that you have heard.
Micah the Morasthite
prophesied in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts;
Zion shall be
plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the
house as the high places of a forest.
“
Micah the Moreshite
prophesied in the days of
Hezekiah king of Judah and told all the people of Judah that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘
Zion will be
plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a
heap of
rubble, and the temple mount a wooded ridge.’
Also I spake to the priests and to all this people, saying, Thus saith the LORD;
Hearken not to the words of your prophets that
prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the LORD’S
house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon: for they
prophesy a lie unto you.
Then I said to the priests and to all this people, “This is what the LORD says: Do not
listen to the words of your prophets who
prophesy to you, saying, ‘Look, very soon now the articles from the
house of the LORD will be brought back from Babylon.’ They are
prophesying to you a lie.
But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make
intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the
house of the LORD, and in the
house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.
If they are indeed prophets and the word of the LORD is with them, let them now
plead with the LORD of Hosts that the articles remaining in the
house of the LORD, in the palace of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem, not be taken to Babylon.
Yea, thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the
house of the LORD, and in the
house of the king of Judah and of Jerusalem;
Yes, this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says about the articles that remain in the
house of the LORD, in the palace of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem:
And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of
Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, which was of
Gibeon, spake unto me in the
house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,
In the fifth month of that same year, the fourth year, near the beginning of the reign of King
Zedekiah of Judah, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur, who was from
Gibeon, said to me in the
house of the LORD in the presence of the priests and all the people:
Within two full years will I bring again into this place all the vessels of the LORD’S
house, that
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried them to Babylon:
Within two years I will restore to this place all the articles of the
house of the LORD that
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon removed from here and carried to Babylon.
Then the prophet Jeremiah said unto the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people that stood in the house of the LORD,
Then the prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the LORD.
Even the prophet Jeremiah said,
Amen: the LORD do so: the LORD perform thy words which thou hast
prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the LORD’S
house, and all that is carried away
captive, from Babylon into this place.
“
Amen!” Jeremiah said. “May the LORD do so! May the LORD
fulfill the words you have
prophesied, and may He restore the articles of His
house and all the exiles back to this place from Babylon.
Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;
“Build houses and settle down. Plant gardens and eat their produce.
The LORD hath made thee priest in the
stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be officers in the
house of the LORD, for every man that is
mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison, and in the stocks.
‘The LORD has appointed you priest in place of Jehoiada, to be the chief officer in the
house of the LORD, responsible for any
madman who acts like a prophet—you must put him in stocks and neck irons.
For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.
For he has sent to us in Babylon, claiming: Since the exile will be
lengthy, build
houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat their produce.’”
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will
sow the
house of Israel and the
house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.
“The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will
sow the
house of Israel and the
house of Judah with the seed of man and of beast.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
“But this is the covenant I will make with the
house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD. I will put My law in their minds and
inscribe it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people.
For then the king of Babylon’s army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah’s house.
At that time the army of the king of Babylon was
besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was imprisoned in the
courtyard of the guard, which was in the palace of the king of Judah.
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Houses, fields, and vineyards will again be bought in this land.”
And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the
houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto
Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto other gods, to
provoke me to anger.
And the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city will come in, set it on fire, and burn it, along with the
houses of those who
provoked Me to anger by burning incense to
Baal on their rooftops and by pouring out drink offerings to other gods.
