Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD.
And he went up to the house of the LORD with all the people of Judah and Jerusalem, as well as the priests and the prophets—all the people small and great—and in their hearing he read all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD.
And he put down the
idolatrous priests, whom the kings of
Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of
Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto
Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.
Josiah also did away with the
idolatrous priests ordained by the kings of
Judah to burn incense on the high places of the cities of
Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem—those who had burned incense to
Baal, to the sun and moon, to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven.
And he brought all the priests out of the cities of
Judah, and
defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer-
sheba, and
brake down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.
Then
Josiah brought all the priests from the cities of
Judah and
desecrated the high places, from Geba to
Beersheba, where the priests had burned incense. He
tore down the high places of the gates at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which was to the left of the city gate.
And he took away the horses that the kings of
Judah had given to the sun, at the entering in of the house of the LORD, by the chamber of
Nathan-melech the
chamberlain, which was in the suburbs, and burned the
chariots of the sun with fire.
And he removed from the entrance to the house of the LORD the horses that the kings of
Judah had dedicated to the sun. They were in the court near the chamber of an official named
Nathan-melech. And
Josiah burned up the
chariots of the sun.
And the altars that were on the top of the upper chamber of
Ahaz, which the kings of
Judah had made, and the altars which
Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD, did the king beat down, and
brake them down from thence, and cast the dust of them into the
brook Kidron.
He pulled down the altars that the kings of
Judah had set up on the roof near the upper chamber of
Ahaz, and the altars that
Manasseh had set up in the two courtyards of the house of the LORD. The king
pulverized them there and threw their dust into the Kidron Valley.
Then he said, What title is that that I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the
sepulchre of the man of God, which came from
Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the altar of
Bethel.
Then the king asked, “What is this monument I see?” And the men of the city replied, “It is the tomb of the man of God who came from
Judah and pronounced these things that you have done to the altar of
Bethel.”
Surely there was not
holden such a
passover from the days of the
judges that
judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of
Judah;
No such
Passover had been observed from the days of the
judges who had governed Israel through all the days of the kings of Israel and
Judah.
Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were
spied in the land of
Judah and in Jerusalem, did
Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.
Furthermore,
Josiah removed the mediums and spiritists, the household gods and idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of
Judah and in Jerusalem. He did this to carry out the words of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had found in the house of the LORD.
Notwithstanding the LORD turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath,
wherewith his anger was
kindled against
Judah, because of all the provocations that
Manasseh had
provoked him
withal.
Nevertheless, the LORD did not turn away from the
fury of His burning anger, which was
kindled against
Judah because of all that
Manasseh had done to
provoke Him to anger.
And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.
For the LORD had said, “I will remove
Judah from My sight, just as I removed Israel. I will
reject this city Jerusalem, which I chose, and the temple of which I said, ‘My Name shall be there.’”
Now the rest of the acts of
Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of
Judah?
As for the rest of the acts of
Josiah, along with all his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of
Judah?
And Pharaoh-nechoh put him in bands at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of an hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.
And Pharaoh Neco imprisoned
Jehoahaz at Riblah in the land of
Hamath so that he could not reign in Jerusalem, and he imposed on
Judah a
levy of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of
Ammon, and sent them against
Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servants the prophets.
Surely at the commandment of the LORD came this upon
Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of
Manasseh, according to all that he did;
Surely this happened to
Judah at the LORD’s command, to remove them from His presence because of the sins of
Manasseh and all that he had done,
Now the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of
Judah?
As for the rest of the acts of
Jehoiakim, along with all his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of
Judah?
And
Jehoiachin the king of
Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants, and his princes, and his officers: and the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign.
Jehoiachin king of
Judah, his mother, his servants, his commanders, and his officials all surrendered to the king of Babylon. So in the eighth year of his reign, the king of Babylon took him
captive.
For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and
Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence, that
Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
For because of the anger of the LORD, all this happened in Jerusalem and
Judah, until He finally banished them from His presence. And
Zedekiah also rebelled against the king of Babylon.
So they took the king, and brought him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah; and they gave judgment upon him.
The Chaldeans seized the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah, where they pronounced judgment on him.
And the king of Babylon
smote them, and
slew them at Riblah in the land of
Hamath. So
Judah was carried away out of their land.
There at Riblah in the land of
Hamath, the king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death. So
Judah was taken into exile, away from its own land.
And as for the people that remained in the land of
Judah, whom
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, even over them he made Gedaliah the son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, ruler.
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon appointed Gedaliah son of
Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, over the people he had left behind in the land of
Judah.
But it came to pass in the seventh month, that
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, came, and ten men with him, and
smote Gedaliah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him at
Mizpah.
In the seventh month, however,
Ishmael son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, who was a member of the royal family, came with ten men and struck down and killed Gedaliah, along with the
Judeans and Chaldeans who were with him at
Mizpah.
And it came to pass in the seven and
thirtieth year of the captivity of
Jehoiachin king of
Judah, in the
twelfth month, on the seven and
twentieth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon in the year that he began to reign did lift up the head of
Jehoiachin king of
Judah out of prison;
On the twenty-seventh day of the
twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the exile of
Judah’s King
Jehoiachin, in the year Evil-merodach became king of Babylon, he released King
Jehoiachin of
Judah from prison.
These were the sons of Israel:
Reuben,
Simeon, Levi,
Judah,
Issachar,
Zebulun,
Dan, Joseph, Benjamin,
Naphtali,
Gad, and Asher.
The sons of
Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the
firstborn of
Judah, was evil in the sight of the LORD; and he
slew him.
The sons of
Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by Bath-shua the
Canaanite. Er,
Judah’s
firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD, who put him to death.
And Tamar his daughter in law bare him Pharez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five.
Tamar,
Judah’s daughter-in-law, bore to him
Perez and Zerah.
Judah had five sons in all.
Ram was the father of
Amminadab, and
Amminadab was the father of Nahshon, a leader of the descendants of
Judah.
The sons of Judah; Pharez, Hezron, and Carmi, and Hur, and Shobal.
The descendants of
Judah:
Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.
And his wife Jehudijah bare Jered the father of Gedor, and
Heber the father of Socho, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. And these are the sons of Bithiah the daughter of Pharaoh, which Mered took.
And Mered’s wife Bithiah gave birth to
Miriam,
Shammai, and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa. These were the children of Pharaoh’s daughter Bithiah. Mered also took a
Judean wife, who gave birth to Jered the father of Gedor,
Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah.
The sons of Shelah the son of Judah were, Er the father of Lecah, and Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen, of the house of Ashbea,
The sons of Shelah son of Judah:
And Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brethren had not many children, neither did all their family multiply, like to the children of Judah.
Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but his brothers did not have many children, so their whole clan did not become as numerous as the sons of Judah.
And these written by name came in the days of
Hezekiah king of
Judah, and
smote their tents, and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their rooms: because there was pasture there for their flocks.
These who were noted by name came in the days of
Hezekiah king of
Judah. They attacked the Hamites and Meunites there in their dwellings,
devoting them to destruction even to this day. Then they settled in their place, because there was pasture for their flocks.
For
Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the
birthright was Joseph’s:)
And though
Judah prevailed over his brothers and a ruler came from him, the
birthright belonged to Joseph.
All these were reckoned by
genealogies in the days of Jotham king of
Judah, and in the days of
Jeroboam king of Israel.
All of them were reckoned in the
genealogies during the reigns of Jotham king of
Judah and
Jeroboam king of Israel.
And Jehozadak went into captivity, when the LORD carried away
Judah and Jerusalem by the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar.
Jehozadak went into captivity when the LORD sent
Judah and Jerusalem into exile by the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar.
And they gave them
Hebron in the land of
Judah, and the suburbs thereof round about it.
They were given
Hebron in the land of
Judah and its surrounding pasturelands.
And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of
Judah, namely,
Hebron, the city of refuge, and
Libnah with her suburbs, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa, with their suburbs,
So the descendants of Aaron were given
Hebron (a city of refuge),
Libnah, Jattir, Eshtemoa,
And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of
Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of
Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities, which are called by their names.
They assigned by lot the cities named above from the tribes of
Judah,
Simeon, and Benjamin.
So all Israel were reckoned by
genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and
Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their
transgression.
So all Israel was recorded in the
genealogies written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. But
Judah was exiled to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
And in Jerusalem dwelt of the children of
Judah, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim, and
Manasseh;
These were some of the descendants of
Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and
Manasseh who lived in Jerusalem:
Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Pharez the son of Judah.
Uthai son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, a
descendant of
Perez son of
Judah.
And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the hold unto David.
Other Benjamites and some men from
Judah also came to David in his
stronghold.
And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come
peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be
knit unto you: but if ye be come to
betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look
thereon, and
rebuke it.
And David went out to meet them, saying, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if you have come to
betray me to my enemies when my hands are free of violence, may the God of our fathers see it and
judge you.”
The children of
Judah that bare shield and
spear were six thousand and eight hundred, ready armed to the war.
From Judah: 6,800 armed troops bearing shields and spears.
And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kirjath-jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God the LORD, that dwelleth between the cherubims, whose name is called on it.
David and all Israel went up to Baalah of
Judah (that is, Kiriath-jearim) to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD, who is enthroned between the
cherubim—the ark that is called by the Name.
Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
Remember the wonders He has done, His marvels, and the judgments He has pronounced,
He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
He is the LORD our God; His judgments carry throughout the earth.
Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth.
Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD, for He is coming to judge the earth.
Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the
judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?
In all My journeys with all the Israelites, have I ever asked any of the leaders I appointed to
shepherd My people, ‘Why
haven’t you built Me a house of
cedar?’
And since the time that I commanded
judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will
subdue all thine enemies.
Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.
and have done since the day I appointed
judges over My people Israel. And I will
subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you.
So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.
Thus David reigned over all Israel and administered justice and righteousness for all his people:
And
Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and
Judah was four hundred
threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.
And
Joab reported to David the total number of the troops. In all Israel there were 1,100,000 men who drew the sword, including 470,000 in
Judah.
Then shalt thou
prosper, if thou takest
heed to fulfil the statutes and
judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage;
dread not, nor be dismayed.
Then you will succeed, if you carefully follow the statutes and ordinances that the LORD commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and
courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.
Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges:
“Of these,” said David, “24,000 are to oversee the work of the house of the LORD, 6,000 are to be officers and judges,
Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were for the outward business over Israel, for officers and judges.
From the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons had the outside duties as officers and judges over Israel.
Of
Judah,
Elihu, one of the brethren of David: of
Issachar, Omri the son of Michael:
over
Judah was
Elihu, one of David’s brothers; over
Issachar was Omri son of Michael;
Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen
Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of
Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel:
Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all my father’s house to be king over Israel
forever. For He chose
Judah as leader, and from the house of
Judah He chose my father’s household, and from my father’s sons He was pleased to make me king over all Israel.
Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he be constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day.
I will establish his kingdom
forever, if he
resolutely carries out My commandments and ordinances, as is being done this day.’
Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers.
Then Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, to the judges, and to every leader in all Israel—the heads of the families.
Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?
Now grant me wisdom and knowledge, so that I may lead this people. For who is able to
govern this great people of Yours?”
And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for
thyself, that thou mayest
judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
God said to Solomon, “Since this was in your heart instead of requesting riches or wealth or glory for
yourself or death for your enemies—and since you have not even requested long life but have asked for wisdom and knowledge to
govern My people over whom I have made you king—
Send me now therefore a man
cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and
crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the
cunning men that are with me in
Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.
Send me, therefore, a
craftsman skilled in engraving to work with gold and silver, with bronze and iron, and with purple,
crimson, and blue yarn. He will work with my
craftsmen in
Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David provided.
Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and
judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by
recompensing his way upon his own head; and by
justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.
then may You hear from heaven and act. May You
judge Your servants,
condemning the wicked man by bringing down on his own head what he has done, and
justifying the righteous man by rewarding him according to his righteousness.
And as for thee, if thou
wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my
judgments;
And as for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, doing all I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and ordinances,
Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, to be king for the LORD thy God: because thy God loved Israel, to establish them for ever, therefore made he thee king over them, to do judgment and justice.
Blessed be the LORD your God, who has delighted in you to set you on His throne to be king for the LORD your God. Because your God loved Israel enough to establish them
forever, He has made you king over them to carry out justice and righteousness.”
And the king made of the
algum trees terraces to the house of the LORD, and to the king’s palace, and harps and
psalteries for singers: and there were none such seen before in the land of
Judah.
The king made the
algum wood into steps for the house of the LORD and for the king’s palace, and into lyres and harps for the singers. Never before had anything like them been seen in the land of
Judah.)
But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of
Judah,
Rehoboam reigned over them.
but
Rehoboam still reigned over the Israelites living in the cities of
Judah.
And when
Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of
Judah and Benjamin an hundred and
fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to
Rehoboam.
When
Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he
mobilized the house of
Judah and Benjamin—180,000 chosen warriors—to fight against Israel and restore the kingdom to
Rehoboam.
Speak unto
Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of
Judah, and to all Israel in
Judah and Benjamin, saying,
“Tell
Rehoboam son of Solomon king of
Judah and all the Israelites in
Judah and Benjamin
And
Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in
Judah.
Rehoboam continued to live in Jerusalem, and he built up cities for
defense in
Judah.
Zorah,
Aijalon, and
Hebron, the fortified cities in
Judah and Benjamin.
And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.
He also put shields and spears in all the cities and strengthened them greatly. So Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.
For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to
Judah and Jerusalem: for
Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from
executing the priest’s office unto the LORD:
For the Levites left their pasturelands and their possessions and went to
Judah and Jerusalem, because
Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as priests of the LORD.
So they strengthened the kingdom of
Judah, and made
Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.
So they strengthened the kingdom of
Judah and supported
Rehoboam son of Solomon for three years, because they walked for three years in the way of David and Solomon.
And he dealt wisely, and
dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of
Judah and Benjamin, unto every
fenced city: and he gave them
victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
Rehoboam also acted wisely by
dispersing some of his sons throughout the districts of
Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and sought many wives for them.
And he took the
fenced cities which
pertained to
Judah, and came to Jerusalem.
He captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.
Then came Shemaiah the prophet to
Rehoboam, and to the princes of
Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of
Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Ye have
forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of
Shishak.
Then Shemaiah the prophet came to
Rehoboam and the leaders of
Judah who had gathered at Jerusalem because of
Shishak, and he said to them, “This is what the LORD says: ‘You have
forsaken Me; therefore, I have
forsaken you into the hand of
Shishak.’”
And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.
Because
Rehoboam humbled himself, the anger of the LORD turned away from him, and He did not destroy him completely. Indeed, conditions were good in
Judah.
Now
Jeroboam had sent troops around to
ambush from the rear, so that while he was in front of
Judah, the
ambush was behind them.
And when
Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they
cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the
trumpets.
When
Judah turned and discovered that the battle was both before and behind them, they
cried out to the LORD. Then the priests
blew the
trumpets,
and the men of
Judah raised the battle cry. And when they raised the cry, God routed
Jeroboam and all Israel before
Abijah and
Judah.
And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.
So the Israelites fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hands.
Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of
Judah prevailed, because they
relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.
Thus the Israelites were subdued at that time, and the men of
Judah prevailed because they
relied on the LORD, the God of their fathers.
And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
He commanded the people of Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandments.
Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
He also removed the high places and incense altars from all the cities of Judah, and under him the kingdom was at peace.
And he built
fenced cities in
Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
Because the land was at peace,
Asa built fortified cities in
Judah. In those days no one made war with him, because the LORD had given him rest.
Therefore he said unto
Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and
prospered.
So he said to the people of
Judah, “Let us build these cities and
surround them with walls and towers, with doors and bars. The land is still ours because we have sought the LORD our God. We have sought Him and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and
prospered.
And
Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of
Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and
fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.
Asa had an army of 300,000 men from
Judah bearing large shields and spears, and 280,000 men from Benjamin bearing small shields and drawing the bow. All these were mighty men of
valor.
So the LORD
smote the Ethiopians before
Asa and before
Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
So the LORD struck down the Cushites before
Asa and
Judah, and the Cushites fled.
And
Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto
Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much
spoil.
Then
Asa and his army pursued them as far as
Gerar. The Cushites fell and could not recover, for they were
crushed before the LORD and His army. So the people of
Judah carried off a great amount of
plunder And he went out to meet
Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me,
Asa, and all
Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye
forsake him, he will
forsake you.
So he went out to meet
Asa and said to him, “
Listen to me,
Asa and all
Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you
forsake Him, He will
forsake you.
And when
Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of
Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the
abominable idols out of all the land of
Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the
porch of the LORD.
When
Asa heard these words and the prophecy of
Azariah son of
Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the
detestable idols from the whole land of
Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the LORD that was in front of the
portico of the LORD’s temple.
And he gathered all
Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and
Manasseh, and out of
Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
And he assembled all
Judah and Benjamin, along with those from the tribes of Ephraim,
Manasseh, and
Simeon who had settled among them, for great numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
And all
Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had
sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.
And all
Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had
sworn it with all their heart. They had sought Him earnestly, and He was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.
In the six and
thirtieth year of the reign of
Asa Baasha king of Israel came up against
Judah, and built
Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or come in to
Asa king of
Judah.
In the thirty-sixth year of
Asa’s reign,
Baasha king of Israel went up against
Judah and fortified
Ramah to prevent
anyone from leaving or entering the territory of
Asa king of
Judah.
Then King
Asa brought all the men of
Judah, and they carried away the stones of
Ramah and the timbers
Baasha had used for building. And with these materials he built up Geba and
Mizpah.
And at that time Hanani the
seer came to
Asa king of
Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast
relied on the king of Syria, and not
relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.
At that time Hanani the
seer came to King
Asa of
Judah and told him, “Because you have
relied on the king of
Aram and not on the LORD your God, the army of the king of
Aram has escaped from your hand.
And, behold, the acts of
Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of
Judah and Israel.
Now the rest of the acts of
Asa, from beginning to end, are indeed written in the Book of the Kings of
Judah and Israel.
And he placed forces in all the
fenced cities of
Judah, and set garrisons in the land of
Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which
Asa his father had taken.
He stationed troops in every fortified city of
Judah and put garrisons in the land of
Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father
Asa had captured.
