Berean Standard Bible BSB Bible
Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of
Manoah his father. And he
judged Israel twenty years.
Then
Samson’s brothers and his father’s family came down, carried him back, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of his father
Manoah. And he had
judged Israel twenty years.
And there was a young man out of Bethlehemjudah of the family of
Judah, who was a
Levite, and he
sojourned there.
And there was a young
Levite from
Bethlehem in
Judah who had been residing within the clan of
Judah.
And the man departed out of the city from Bethlehemjudah to
sojourn where he could find a place: and he came to mount Ephraim to the house of
Micah, as he journeyed.
This man left the city of
Bethlehem in
Judah to settle where he could find a place. And as he traveled, he came to
Micah’s house in the hill country of Ephraim.
And
Micah said unto him, Whence comest thou? And he said unto him, I am a
Levite of Bethlehemjudah, and I go to
sojourn where I may find a place.
“Where are you from?”
Micah asked him. “I am a
Levite from
Bethlehem in
Judah,” he replied, “and I am on my way to settle wherever I can find a place.”
And they went up, and pitched in Kirjath-jearim, in
Judah: wherefore they called that place Mahaneh-
dan unto this day: behold, it is behind Kirjath-jearim.
They went up and camped at Kiriath-jearim in
Judah. That is why the place west of Kiriath-jearim is called Mahaneh-
dan to this day.
And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain
Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a
concubine out of Bethlehemjudah.
Now in those days, when there was no king in Israel, a
Levite who lived in the remote hill country of Ephraim took for himself a
concubine from
Bethlehem in
Judah.
And his
concubine played the
whore against him, and went away from him unto her father’s house to Bethlehemjudah, and was there four whole months.
But she was unfaithful to him and left him to return to her father’s house in
Bethlehem in
Judah. After she had been there four months,
And he said unto him, We are passing from Bethlehemjudah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Bethlehemjudah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.
The
Levite replied, “We are traveling from
Bethlehem in
Judah to the remote hill country of Ephraim, where I am from. I went to
Bethlehem in
Judah, and now I am going to the house of the LORD; but no one has taken me into his home,
And the children of Israel arose, and went up to the house of God, and asked counsel of God, and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the LORD said, Judah shall go up first.
The Israelites set out, went up to
Bethel, and inquired of God, “Who of us shall go up first to fight against the Benjamites?” “
Judah will be first,” the LORD replied.
Now it came to pass in the days when the
judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to
sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
In the days when the
judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. And a certain man from
Bethlehem in
Judah, with his wife and two sons, went to reside in the land of Moab.
And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife
Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.
The man’s name was Elimelech, his wife’s name was
Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from
Bethlehem in
Judah, and they entered the land of Moab and settled there.
Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.
Accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road leading back to the land of Judah.
And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.
And may your house become like the house of
Perez, whom Tamar bore to
Judah, because of the offspring the LORD will give you by this young woman.”
The
adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he
thunder upon them: the LORD shall
judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and
exalt the horn of his
anointed.
Those who
oppose the LORD will be
shattered. He will
thunder from heaven against them. The LORD will
judge the ends of the earth and will give power to His king. He will
exalt the horn of His
anointed.”
If one man sin against another, the
judge shall
judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they
hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would
slay them.
If a man sins against another man, God can
intercede for him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who can
intercede for him?” But they would not
listen to their father, since the LORD intended to put them to death.
For I have told him that I will
judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves
vile, and he restrained them not.
I told him that I would
judge his house
forever for the iniquity of which he knows, because his sons
blasphemed God and he did not restrain them.
And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck
brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had
judged Israel forty years.
As soon as the ark of God was mentioned,
Eli fell backward from his chair by the city gate, and being old and heavy, he broke his neck and died. And
Eli had
judged Israel forty years.
And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have
sinned against the LORD. And Samuel
judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.
When they had gathered at
Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out before the LORD. On that day they fasted, and there they
confessed, “We have
sinned against the LORD.” And Samuel
judged the Israelites at
Mizpah.
And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
So Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
And he went from year to year in circuit to
Bethel, and
Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and
judged Israel in all those places.
Every year he would go on a circuit from
Bethel to
Gilgal to
Mizpah,
judging Israel in all these places.
And his return was to
Ramah; for there was his house; and there he
judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.
Then he would return to
Ramah because his home was there, and there he
judged Israel and built an altar to the LORD.
And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges over Israel.
And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after
lucre, and took bribes, and
perverted judgment.
But his sons did not walk in his ways; they turned aside toward
dishonest gain, accepting bribes and
perverting justice.
And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.
“Look,” they said, “you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now
appoint a king to
judge us like all the other nations.”
But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.
But when they said, “Give us a king to judge us,” their demand was displeasing in the sight of Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD.
That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.
Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to judge us, to go out before us, and to fight our battles.”
And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.
And when Saul numbered them at Bezek, there were 300,000 Israelites and 30,000 men of Judah.
And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand
footmen, and ten thousand men of
Judah.
So Saul summoned the troops and numbered them at Telaim—200,000 foot soldiers and 10,000 men of Judah.
Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim.
Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war at Socoh in Judah, and they camped between Socoh and Azekah in Ephes-dammim.
Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehemjudah, whose name was
Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul.
Now David was the son of a man named
Jesse, an Ephrathite from
Bethlehem of
Judah who had eight sons in the days of Saul. And
Jesse was old and well along in years.
And the men of Israel and of
Judah arose, and
shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of
Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto
Gath, and unto
Ekron.
Then the men of Israel and
Judah charged forward with a
shout and pursued the Philistines to the entrance of
Gath and to the gates of
Ekron. And the bodies of the Philistines were
strewn along the Shaaraim road to
Gath and
Ekron.
But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.
But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he was leading them out to battle and back.
And the prophet
Gad said unto David,
Abide not in the hold; depart, and get thee into the land of
Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.
Then the prophet
Gad said to David, “Do not stay in the
stronghold. Depart and go into the land of
Judah.” So David left and went to the forest of Hereth.
And David’s men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?
But David’s men said to him, “Look, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”
See therefore, and take knowledge of all the
lurking places where he hideth himself, and come ye again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be in the land, that I will search him out throughout all the thousands of
Judah.
Observe and find out all the places where he hides. Then come back to me with certainty, and I will go with you. If he is in the land, I will search him out among all the clans of Judah.”
The LORD
judge between me and thee, and the LORD
avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not be upon thee.
May the LORD
judge between you and me, and may the LORD take
vengeance on you, but my hand will never be against you.
The LORD therefore be
judge, and
judge between me and thee, and see, and
plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.
May the LORD be our
judge and decide between you and me. May He take notice and
plead my case and deliver me from your hand.”
Then Achish gave him
Ziklag that day: wherefore
Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of
Judah unto this day.
That day Achish gave him
Ziklag, and to this day it still belongs to the kings of
Judah.
And Achish said,
Whither have ye made a road to day? And David said, Against the south of
Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the
Kenites.
who would ask him, “What have you
raided today?” And David would reply, “The Negev of
Judah,” or “The Negev of Jerahmeel,” or “The Negev of the
Kenites.”
We made an invasion upon the south of the Cherethites, and upon the coast which belongeth to
Judah, and upon the south of
Caleb; and we burned
Ziklag with fire.
We
raided the Negev of the Cherethites, the territory of
Judah, and the Negev of
Caleb, and we burned down
Ziklag.”
And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great
spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of
Judah.
So he led David down, and there were the
Amalekites spread out over all the land, eating, drinking, and
celebrating the great amount of
plunder they had taken from the land of the Philistines and the land of
Judah.
And when David came to
Ziklag, he sent of the
spoil unto the elders of
Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the
spoil of the enemies of the LORD;
When David arrived in
Ziklag, he sent some of the
plunder to his friends, the elders of
Judah, saying, “Here is a gift for you from the
plunder of the LORD’s enemies.”
(Also he
bade them teach the children of
Judah the use of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.)
and he ordered that the sons of
Judah be taught the Song of the Bow. It is written in the Book of
Jashar:
And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of
Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said,
Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto
Hebron.
Some time later, David inquired of the LORD, “Should I go up to one of the towns of
Judah?” “Go up,” the LORD answered. Then David asked, “Where should I go?” “To
Hebron,” replied the LORD.
And the men of
Judah came, and there they
anointed David king over the house of
Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of
Jabesh-
gilead were they that buried Saul.
Then the men of
Judah came to
Hebron, and there they
anointed David king over the house of
Judah. And they told David, “It was the men of
Jabesh-
gilead who buried Saul.”
Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye
valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of
Judah have
anointed me king over them.
Now then, be strong and
courageous, for though Saul your lord is dead, the house of
Judah has
anointed me as their king.”
Ish-bosheth Saul’s son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and reigned two years. But the house of
Judah followed David.
Saul’s son
Ish-bosheth was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned for two years. The house of
Judah, however, followed David.
And the time that David was king in
Hebron over the house of
Judah was seven years and six months.
And the length of time that David was king in
Hebron over the house of
Judah was seven years and six months.
Then was
Abner very
wroth for the words of
Ish-bosheth, and said, Am I a dog’s head, which against
Judah do
shew kindness this day unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David, that thou chargest me to day with a fault concerning this woman?
Abner was
furious over
Ish-bosheth’s
accusation. “Am I the head of a dog that belongs to
Judah?” he asked. “All this time I have been
loyal to the house of your father Saul, to his brothers, and to his friends. I have not delivered you into the hand of David, but now you
accuse me of
wrongdoing with this woman!
To
translate the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over
Judah, from
Dan even to Beer-
sheba.
to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and to establish the throne of David over Israel and
Judah, from
Dan to
Beersheba.”
In
Hebron he reigned over
Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and
Judah.
In
Hebron he reigned over
Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and
Judah.
And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.
And he and all his troops set out for Baale of
Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name— the name of the LORD of Hosts, who is enthroned between the
cherubim that are on it.
And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
and have done since the day I appointed judges over My people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies. The LORD declares to you that He Himself will establish a house for you.
And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people.
Thus David reigned over all Israel and administered justice and righteousness for all his people:
And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and
Judah,
abide in tents; and my lord
Joab, and the servants of my lord, are
encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.
Uriah answered, “The ark and Israel and
Judah are dwelling in tents, and my master
Joab and his soldiers are camped in the open field. How can I go to my house to eat and drink and sleep with my wife? As surely as you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do such a thing!”
And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy
bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of
Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.
I gave your master’s house to you and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah, and if that was not enough, I would have given you even more.
And
Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for
judgment, then
Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city art thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.
He would get up early and stand beside the road leading to the city gate. Whenever
anyone had a
grievance to bring before the king for a decision,
Absalom would call out and ask, “What city are you from?” And if he replied, “Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel,”
Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made
judge in the land, that every man which hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!
And he would add, “If only someone would
appoint me
judge in the land, then
everyone with a
grievance or dispute could come to me, and I would give him justice.”
And on this manner did
Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for
judgment: so
Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
Absalom did this to all the Israelites who came to the king for justice. In this way he
stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
And king David sent to
Zadok and to
Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of
Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, even to his house.
Then King David sent this message to
Zadok and
Abiathar, the priests: “Say to the elders of
Judah, ‘Why should you be the last to restore the king to his palace, since the talk of all Israel has reached the king at his quarters?
And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent this word unto the king, Return thou, and all thy servants.
So he
swayed the hearts of all the men of
Judah as though they were one man, and they sent word to the king: “Return, you and all your servants.”
So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And
Judah came to
Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over Jordan.
So the king returned, and when he arrived at the Jordan, the men of
Judah came to
Gilgal to meet him and
escort him across the Jordan.
And Shimei the son of
Gera, a
Benjamite, which was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of
Judah to meet king David.
Then Shimei son of
Gera, a
Benjamite from Bahurim,
hurried down with the men of
Judah to meet King David,
Then the king went on to
Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him: and all the people of
Judah conducted the king, and also half the people of Israel.
Then the king went on to
Gilgal, and Chimham crossed over with him. All the troops of
Judah and half the troops of Israel
escorted the king.
And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of
Judah stolen thee away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David’s men with him, over Jordan?
Soon all the men of Israel came to the king and asked, “Why did our brothers, the men of Judah, take you away secretly and bring the king and his household across the Jordan, together with all of David’s men?”
And all the men of
Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of
kin to us: wherefore then be ye
angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king’s cost? or hath he given us any gift?
And all the men of Judah replied to the men of Israel, “We did this because the king is our relative. Why does this anger you? Have we ever eaten at the king’s expense or received anything for ourselves?”
And the men of Israel answered the men of
Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye
despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of
Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
“We have ten shares in the king,” answered the men of Israel, “so we have more claim to David than you. Why then do you
despise us? Were we not the first to speak of restoring our king?” But the men of
Judah pressed even harder than the men of Israel.
So every man of Israel went up from after David, and followed
Sheba the son of Bichri: but the men of
Judah clave unto their king, from Jordan even to Jerusalem.
So all the men of Israel deserted David to follow
Sheba son of Bichri. But the men of
Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.
Then said the king to
Amasa,
Assemble me the men of
Judah within three days, and be thou here present.
Then the king said to
Amasa, “
Summon the men of
Judah to come to me within three days, and be here
yourself.”
So
Amasa went to
assemble the men of
Judah: but he
tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him.
And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the
remnant of the
Amorites; and the children of Israel had
sworn unto them: and Saul sought to
slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and
Judah.)
At this, David summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them. (Now the Gibeonites were not Israelites, but a
remnant of the
Amorites. The Israelites had taken an oath concerning them, but in his zeal for Israel and
Judah, Saul had sought to kill them.)
For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.
For all His ordinances are before me; I have not disregarded His statutes.
And again the anger of the LORD was
kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and
Judah.
Again the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He
stirred up David against them, saying, “Go and take a census of Israel and
Judah.”
And came to the strong hold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the
Hivites, and of the
Canaanites: and they went out to the south of
Judah, even to Beer-
sheba.
They went toward the fortress of Tyre and all the cities of the
Hivites and
Canaanites. Finally, they went on to the Negev of
Judah, to
Beersheba.
And
Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand
valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of
Judah were five hundred thousand men.
And
Joab reported to the king the total number of the troops. In Israel there were 800,000 men of
valor who drew the sword, and in
Judah there were 500,000.
And Adonijah
slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En-rogel, and called all his brethren the king’s sons, and all the men of
Judah the king’s servants:
And Adonijah sacrificed sheep, oxen, and
fattened calves near the stone of Zoheleth, which is next to En-rogel. He invited all his royal brothers and all the men of
Judah who were servants of the king.
Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my
stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over
Judah.
Then you shall go up with him, and he is to come and sit on my throne and reign in my place. For I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah.”
And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his
judgments, and his
testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest
prosper in all that thou doest, and
whithersoever thou turnest
thyself:
And keep the charge of the LORD your God to walk in His ways and to keep His statutes, commandments, ordinances, and decrees, as is written in the Law of Moses, so that you may
prosper in all you do and wherever you turn,
And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and
slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing thereof, to wit,
Abner the son of
Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and
Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of
Judah.
The LORD will bring his
bloodshed back upon his own head, for without the knowledge of my father David he struck down two men more righteous and better than he when he put to the sword
Abner son of
Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and
Amasa son of Jether, commander of
Judah’s army.
Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to
judge thy people, that I may
discern between good and bad: for who is able to
judge this thy so great a people?
Therefore give Your servant an understanding heart to
judge Your people and to
discern between good and evil. For who is able to
govern this great people of Yours?”
And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for
thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for
thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for
thyself understanding to
discern judgment;
So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this instead of requesting long life or wealth for
yourself or death for your enemies—but you have asked for
discernment to
administer justice—
And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.
When all Israel heard of the
judgment the king had given, they stood in
awe of him, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to
administer justice.
Geber the son of
Uri was in the country of
Gilead, in the country of Sihon king of the
Amorites, and of
Og king of
Bashan; and he was the only officer which was in the land.
Geber son of
Uri in the land of
Gilead, including the territories of Sihon king of the
Amorites and of
Og king of
Bashan. There was also one governor in the land of
Judah.
Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making
merry.
The people of
Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the
seashore, and they were eating and drinking and
rejoicing.
And
Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from
Dan even to Beer-
sheba, all the days of Solomon.
Throughout the days of Solomon,
Judah and Israel dwelt securely from
Dan to
Beersheba, each man under his own vine and his own fig tree.
Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou
wilt walk in my statutes, and
execute my
judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:
“As for this temple you are building, if you walk in My statutes, carry out My ordinances, and keep all My commandments by walking in them, I will
fulfill through you the promise I made to your father David.
Then he made a
porch for the throne where he might
judge, even the
porch of
judgment: and it was covered with
cedar from one side of the floor to the other.
In addition, he built a hall for the throne, the Hall of Justice, where he was to
judge. It was
paneled with
cedar from floor to
ceiling.
Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and
judge thy servants,
condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and
justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.
then may You hear from heaven and act. May You
judge Your servants,
condemning the wicked man by bringing down on his own head what he has done, and
justifying the righteous man by rewarding him according to his righteousness.
That he may
incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his
judgments, which he commanded our fathers.
May He
incline our hearts to Himself, to walk in all His ways and to keep the commandments and statutes and ordinances He commanded our fathers.
And if thou
wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in
integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and
wilt keep my statutes and my
judgments:
And as for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, with a heart of
integrity and uprightness, doing all I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and ordinances,
and Baalath, and
Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land,
Baalath, and Tamar in the Wilderness of Judah,
Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because the LORD loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do judgment and justice.
Blessed be the LORD your God, who has delighted in you to set you on the throne of Israel. Because of the LORD’s eternal love for Israel, He has made you king to carry out justice and righteousness.”
Because that they have
forsaken me, and have worshipped
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians,
Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of
Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes, and to keep my statutes and my
judgments, as did David his father.
For they have
forsaken Me to worship
Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians,
Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the
Ammonites. They have not walked in My ways, nor done what is right in My eyes, nor kept My statutes and
judgments, as Solomon’s father David did.
But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of
Judah,
Rehoboam reigned over them.
but
Rehoboam still reigned over the Israelites living in the cities of
Judah.
And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that
Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of
Judah only.
When all Israel heard that
Jeroboam had returned, they summoned him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. Only the tribe of
Judah followed the house of David.
And when
Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of
Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and
fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to
Rehoboam the son of Solomon.
And when
Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he
mobilized the whole house of
Judah and the tribe of Benjamin—180,000 chosen warriors—to fight against the house of Israel and restore the kingdom to
Rehoboam son of Solomon.
Speak unto
Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of
Judah, and unto all the house of
Judah and Benjamin, and to the
remnant of the people, saying,
“Tell
Rehoboam son of Solomon king of
Judah, all the house of
Judah and Benjamin, and the rest of the people
If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto
Rehoboam king of
Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to
Rehoboam king of
Judah.
If these people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, their hearts will return to their lord,
Rehoboam king of
Judah; then they will kill me and return to
Rehoboam king of
Judah.”
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the
fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in
Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in
Bethel, sacrificing unto the
calves that he had made: and he placed in
Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.
And
Jeroboam ordained a feast on the
fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the feast that was in
Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar; he made this offering in
Bethel to sacrifice to the
calves he had set up, and he
installed priests in
Bethel for the high places he had set up.
