But I will judge the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will depart with many possessions.
And Sarai said unto
Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my
maid into thy
bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was
despised in her eyes: the LORD
judge between me and thee.
Then Sarai said to
Abram, “May the wrong done to me be upon you! I delivered my servant into your arms, and ever since she saw that she was
pregnant, she has treated me with contempt. May the LORD
judge between you and me.”
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
For I have chosen him, so that he will command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, in order that the LORD may bring upon Abraham what He has promised.”
That be far from thee to do after this manner, to
slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the
Judge of all the earth do right?
Far be it from You to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike. Far be it from You! Will not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?”
And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to
sojourn, and he will needs be a
judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed
sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.
“Get out of the way!” they replied. And they declared, “This one came here as a foreigner, and he is already acting like a judge! Now we will treat you worse than them.” And they pressed in on Lot and moved in to break down the door.

judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name

Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set it here before my brethren and thy brethren, that they may
judge betwixt us both.
You have searched all my goods! Have you found anything that belongs to you? Put it here before my brothers and yours, that they may judge between the two of us.
Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine
affliction and the labour of my hands, and
rebuked thee
yesternight.
If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been with me, surely by now you would have sent me away empty-handed. But God has seen my
affliction and the
toil of my hands, and last night He rendered
judgment.”
The God of Abraham, and the God of
Nahor, the God of their father,
judge betwixt us. And Jacob
sware by the fear of his father Isaac.
May the God of Abraham and the God of
Nahor, the God of their father,
judge between us.” So Jacob
swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.
And
Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we
slay our brother, and
conceal his blood?
Then Judah said to his brothers, “What profit will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood?
And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
About that time, Judah left his brothers and settled near a man named Hirah, an Adullamite.
And
Judah saw there a daughter of a certain
Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.
There
Judah saw the daughter of a
Canaanite man named Shua, and he took her as a wife and
slept with her.
And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.
So she conceived and gave birth to a son, and Judah named him Er.
And
Judah took a wife for Er his
firstborn, whose name was Tamar.
Now
Judah acquired a wife for Er, his
firstborn, and her name was Tamar.
And Er,
Judah’s
firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD
slew him.
But Er,
Judah’s
firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; so the LORD put him to death.
And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
Then Judah said to Onan, “Sleep with your brother’s wife. Perform your duty as her brother-in-law and raise up offspring for your brother.”
Then said
Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father’s house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest
peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house.
Then Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, “Live as a widow in your father’s house until my son Shelah grows up.” For he thought, “He may die too, like his brothers.” So Tamar went to live in her father’s house.
And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah’s wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
After a long time
Judah’s wife, the daughter of Shua, died. When
Judah had finished
mourning, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite went up to his sheepshearers at Timnah.
When
Judah saw her, he thought her to be an
harlot; because she had covered her face.
When
Judah saw her, he thought she was a
prostitute because she had covered her face.
And he said, I will send thee a
kid from the flock. And she said,
Wilt thou give me a
pledge, till thou send it?
“I will send you a young goat from my flock,”
Judah answered. But she replied, “Only if you leave me something as a
pledge until you send it.”
And
Judah sent the
kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his
pledge from the woman’s hand: but he found her not.
Now when Judah sent his friend Hirah the Adullamite with the young goat to collect the items he had left with the woman, he could not find her.
And he returned to
Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no
harlot in this place.
So Hirah returned to
Judah and said, “I could not find her, and
furthermore, the men of that place said, ‘No
shrine prostitute has been here.’”
And
Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this
kid, and thou hast not found her.
“Let her keep the items,”
Judah replied. “Otherwise we will become a
laughingstock. After all, I did send her this young goat, but you could not find her.”
And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told

About three months later,
Judah was told, “Your daughter-in-law Tamar has
prostituted herself, and now she is
pregnant.” “Bring her out!”
Judah replied. “Let her be burned to death!”
And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.
Judah recognized the items and said, “She is more righteous than I, since I did not give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not have relations with her again.
And
Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly
protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
But
Judah replied, “The man solemnly
warned us, ‘You will not see my face again unless your brother is with you.’
And
Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the
lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.

And Judah said, What shall we say unto my lord? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we are my lord’s servants, both we, and he also with whom the cup is found.
“What can we say to my lord?”
Judah replied. “How can we
plead? How can we
justify ourselves? God has exposed the iniquity of your servants. We are now my lord’s slaves—both we and the one who was found with the cup.”
Then Judah came near unto him, and said, Oh my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord’s ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant: for thou art even as Pharaoh.
Then
Judah approached Joseph and said, “Sir, please let your servant speak personally to my lord. Do not be
angry with your servant, for you are equal to Pharaoh himself.
And the sons of
Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Pharez, and Zarah: but Er and Onan died in the land of
Canaan. And the sons of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul.
The sons of
Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah,
Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of
Canaan. The sons of
Perez: Hezron and Hamul.
And he sent
Judah before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto
Goshen; and they came into the land of
Goshen.
Now Jacob had sent
Judah ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to
Goshen. When Jacob’s family arrived in the land of
Goshen,
Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee.
Judah, your brothers shall praise you. Your hand shall be on the necks of your enemies; your father’s sons shall bow down to you.
Judah is a lion’s
whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he
stooped down, he
couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall
rouse him up?
Judah is a young lion— my son, you return from the prey. Like a lion he crouches and lies down; like a
lioness, who
dares to
rouse him?
The
sceptre shall not depart from
Judah, nor a
lawgiver from between his feet, until
Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
The
scepter will not depart from
Judah, nor the staff from between his feet, until
Shiloh comes and the allegiance of the nations is his.
Dan shall
judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel.
Dan shall provide justice for his people as one of the tribes of Israel.
And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.
But the man replied, “Who made you ruler and
judge over us? Are you
planning to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and thought, “This thing I have done has surely become known.”
And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and
judge; because ye have made our savour to be
abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to
slay us.
“May the LORD look upon you and
judge you,” the
foremen said, “for you have made us a
stench before Pharaoh and his officials; you have placed in their hand a sword to kill us!”
Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their
bondage, and I will
redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great
judgments:
Therefore tell the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians and deliver you from their
bondage. I will
redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of
judgment.
But Pharaoh shall not
hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great
judgments.
Pharaoh will not
listen to you. Then I will lay My hand on Egypt, and by mighty acts of
judgment I will bring the divisions of My people the Israelites out of the land of Egypt.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will
smite all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will
execute judgment: I am the LORD.
On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every
firstborn male, both man and beast, and I will
execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.
And it came to pass on the
morrow, that Moses sat to
judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.
The next day Moses took his seat to judge the people, and they stood around him from morning until evening.
And when Moses’ father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou
thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?
When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he asked, “What is this that you are doing for the people? Why do you sit alone as judge, with all the people standing around you from morning till evening?”
When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.
“Whenever they have a dispute, it is brought to me to judge between one man and another, and I make known to them the statutes and laws of God.”
And let them
judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall
judge: so shall it be easier for
thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.
Have these men
judge the people at all times. Then they can bring you any major issue, but all minor cases they can
judge on their own, so that your load may be
lightened as they share it with you.
And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
And they judged the people at all times; they would bring the difficult cases to Moses, but any minor issue they would judge themselves.
Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.
“These are the ordinances that you are to set before them:
Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.
then his master is to bring him before the
judges. And he shall take him to the door or
doorpost and
pierce his ear with an
awl. Then he shall serve his master for life.
If men
strive, and
hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the
judges determine.
If men who are fighting strike a
pregnant woman and her child is born
prematurely, but there is no further injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman’s husband demands and as the court allows.
Whether he have
gored a son, or have
gored a daughter, according to this
judgment shall it be done unto him.
If the ox gores a son or a daughter, it shall be done to him according to the same rule.
If the
thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the
judges, to see whether he have put his hand unto his neighbour’s goods.
If the
thief is not found, the owner of the house must appear before the
judges to determine whether he has taken his
neighbor’s property.
For all manner of
trespass, whether it be for ox, for
ass, for sheep, for
raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the
judges; and whom the
judges shall
condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.
In all cases of
illegal possession of an ox, a
donkey, a sheep, a garment, or any lost
item that someone claims, ‘This is mine,’ both parties shall bring their cases before the
judges. The one whom the
judges find guilty must pay back double to his
neighbor.
Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to
wrest judgment:
Thou shalt not
wrest the
judgment of thy poor in his cause.
You shall not deny justice to the poor in their lawsuits.
And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do.
When Moses came and told the people all the words and ordinances of the LORD, they all
responded with one voice: “All the words that the LORD has spoken, we will do.”
And thou shalt make the
breastplate of
judgment with
cunning work; after the work of the
ephod thou shalt make it; of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine
twined linen, shalt thou make it.
You are also to make a breastpiece of
judgment with the same
workmanship as the
ephod. Construct it with gold, with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and with finely
spun linen.
And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the
breastplate of
judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a
memorial before the LORD continually.
Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he shall bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of judgment, as a continual reminder before the LORD.
And thou shalt put in the
breastplate of
judgment the
Urim and the
Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron’s heart, when he goeth in before the LORD: and Aaron shall bear the
judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.
And place the
Urim and
Thummim in the breastpiece of
judgment, so that they will also be over Aaron’s heart whenever he comes before the LORD. Aaron will continually carry the
judgment of the sons of Israel over his heart before the LORD.
See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of
Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of
Judah:
“See, I have called by name Bezalel son of
Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of
Judah.
And Moses said unto the children of Israel, See, the LORD hath called by name Bezaleel the son of
Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of
Judah;
Then Moses said to the Israelites, “See, the LORD has called by name Bezalel son of
Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of
Judah.
And Bezaleel the son of
Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of
Judah, made all that the LORD commanded Moses.
Bezalel son of
Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of
Judah, made everything that the LORD had commanded Moses.
Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God.
You are to practice My judgments and keep My statutes by walking in them. I am the LORD your God.
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.
Keep My statutes and My judgments, for the man who does these things will live by them. I am the LORD.
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
But you are to keep My statutes and ordinances, and you must not commit any of these abominations—neither your native-born nor the foreigner who lives among you.
Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
Ye shall do no unrighteousness in
judgment, in
meteyard, in weight, or in measure.
You must not use
dishonest measures of length, weight, or volume.
Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am the LORD.
You must keep all My statutes and all My ordinances and follow them. I am the LORD.”
Ye shall therefore keep all my statutes, and all my
judgments, and do them: that the land,
whither I bring you to dwell therein,
spue you not out.
You are therefore to keep all My statutes and ordinances, so that the land where I am bringing you to live will not
vomit you out.
Wherefore ye shall do my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; and ye shall dwell in the land in safety.
You are to keep My statutes and carefully observe My judgments, so that you may dwell securely in the land.
And if ye shall
despise my statutes, or if your soul
abhor my
judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:
and if you
reject My statutes,
despise My ordinances, and neglect to carry out all My commandments, and so break My covenant,
The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth
desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they
despised my
judgments, and because their soul
abhorred my statutes.
For the land will be abandoned by them, and it will enjoy its Sabbaths by lying
desolate without them. And they will pay the penalty for their iniquity, because they rejected My ordinances and
abhorred My statutes.
These are the statutes and
judgments and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount
Sinai by the hand of Moses.
These are the statutes, ordinances, and laws that the LORD established between Himself and the Israelites through Moses on Mount
Sinai.

Judah is Nahshon son of
Amminadab, and his division numbers 74,600.
All that were numbered in the camp of
Judah were an hundred thousand and
fourscore thousand and six thousand and four hundred, throughout their armies. These shall first set forth.
The total number of men in the divisions of the camp of Judah is 186,400; they shall set out first.
And he that offered his offering the first day was Nahshon the son of
Amminadab, of the tribe of
Judah:
On the first day Nahshon son of
Amminadab from the tribe of
Judah drew near with his offering.
In the first place went the standard of the camp of the children of
Judah according to their armies: and over his host was Nahshon the son of
Amminadab.
First, the divisions of the camp of
Judah set out under their standard, with Nahshon son of
Amminadab in command.
Of the tribe of
Judah,
Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
from the tribe of
Judah,
Caleb son of Jephunneh;
And Moses said unto the
judges of Israel,
Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto
Baal-peor.
So Moses told the
judges of Israel, “Each of you must kill all of his men who have joined in worshiping
Baal of Peor.”
The sons of
Judah were Er and Onan: and Er and Onan died in the land of
Canaan.
The sons of
Judah were Er and Onan, but they died in the land of
Canaan.
And the sons of Judah after their families were; of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites: of Pharez, the family of the Pharzites: of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites.
These were the descendants of
Judah by their clans: The Shelanite clan from Shelah, the Perezite clan from
Perez, and the Zerahite clan from Zerah.
These are the families of
Judah according to those that were numbered of them,
threescore and sixteen thousand and five hundred.
These were the clans of
Judah, and their
registration numbered 76,500.
And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his
kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of
judgment, as the LORD commanded Moses.
And if his father has no brothers, give his inheritance to the next of
kin from his clan, that he may take possession of it. This is to be a
statutory ordinance for the Israelites, as the LORD has commanded Moses.’”
And he shall stand before
Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the
judgment of
Urim before the LORD: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.
He shall stand before
Eleazar the priest, who will seek counsel for him before the LORD by the
judgment of the
Urim. At his command, he and all the Israelites with him—the entire congregation—will go out and come in.”
For the Egyptians buried all their
firstborn, which the LORD had
smitten among them: upon their gods also the LORD executed
judgments.
who were
burying all their
firstborn, whom the LORD had struck down among them; for the LORD had executed
judgment against their gods.
And the names of the men are these: Of the tribe of
Judah,
Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
These are their names:
Caleb son of Jephunneh from the tribe of
Judah;
And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the
avenger; that the
manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in
judgment.
You are to have these cities as a refuge from the
avenger, so that the
manslayer will not die until he stands trial before the assembly.
Then the congregation shall
judge between the
slayer and the
revenger of blood according to these
judgments:
then the congregation must
judge between the
slayer and the
avenger of blood according to these ordinances.
So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
This will be a
statutory ordinance for you for the generations to come, wherever you live.
These are the commandments and the
judgments, which the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near
Jericho.
These are the commandments and ordinances that the LORD gave the Israelites through Moses on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from
Jericho.
And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.
At that time I charged your judges: “Hear the disputes between your brothers, and judge fairly between a man and his brother or a foreign resident.
Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.
Show no
partiality in
judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be
intimidated by
anyone, for
judgment belongs to God. And bring to me any case too difficult for you, and I will hear it.”
Now therefore
hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the
judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.
Hear now, O Israel, the statutes and ordinances I am teaching you to follow, so that you may live and may enter and take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you.
